My first 4 days are total liquid then thicken liquid, then something like cottage cheese, yogurt etc, then purée meat , veggies Uck! All within a months time. -

some things i've eaten the past week... 1) ½ an oven roasted acorn squash with butter and seasonings: est. 150 cals. ate ½ 2) homemade cabbage soup with 5 homemade pork and cabbage meatballs: est. 400 cals, ate/drank it all except for 2 meatballs. 3) ben & jerry's coffee ice cream, sour cream and onion chips, and a dark chocolate Godiva truffle: est. 500 cals, ate it all. 4) beet salad (beets, feta, balsamic glaze, green onion, ginger, vinaigrette): est. 275 cals, ate it all. 5) 1/4 sesame bagel w/ cream cheese and feta, roasted pork belly slices w/ ginger onion condiment : est. 550 calories, ate it all. 6) raspberry (9%) yogurt cup with black pepper: 175 cals, ate it all -
I did the small meals throughout the day too. Mine is every three hours but I have alarms set to remind me or I would never remember because I don’t feel hungry either. Speaking of jerky. Chomps brand makes a turkey jerky that is pepperoni flavored that’s really good. That and cheese sticks are super convenient for on the go. Ooh and the yogurt drinks if you can find one that relatively clean. I did find one but it’s pricey so I started making my own. It’s really easy just Greek yogurt, milk and fruit in a blender. i use a container of non fat plain greek yogurt, 1/4 cup berries and 1/2 cup of almond milk. I just drink it out of the nutra bullet cup if I’m home but I also wash and reuse the containers from the ones I purchased to take on the go. They are $4 each in the store for the ones without added garbage and I always have fruit and almond milk on hand that usually goes to the waste anyways so I just have to buy the yogurt which is a lot cheaper than 4 bucks each.

The only way I can tell I am hungry is that I am tired or dizzy. Rarely do I actually feel hungry. I actually eat every 1.5-2hours. Small high protein snacks through out the day with 3 smaller more balanced meals (veggies, fruit, carbs ect). Its super important to feed your body so you can sustain workouts, working, or life lol I would try and make it a habit of eating more often. idk if you like to meal prep but egg cups for bfast, lunch chicken salad or a bowl of some time, snacks can be yogurt and granola, cheese stick and jerky...

It *could* be hypoglycemia. To prevent that, you're supposed to eat something about every three hours. Preferably a protein if it's WLS-related. Even a thing of yogurt is fine.

Yes - I have that. Or at least that is what my physician thought after I had occasional symptoms like that and they couldn't find anything else wrong with me (had the workup about four years ago). She said to eat something about every three hours - preferably a protein or something paired with a protein. It works - I rarely have those symptoms any more. P.S. any kind of protein is fine - even a thing of yogurt. -

Don’t forget to tell them exactly what you’re doing fitness wise and ask whether you need to adjust your protein and carbs. Also ask what your portions should look like up until your next appointment portion wise. Also I thought of you while I was having my yogurt drink. They are just Greek yogurt and fruit with a little milk (I use almond milk just because it doesn’t expire as fast so I don’t waste as much). They sell some in the stores but you have to watch the added sugars and the ones without it are pricey. They are simple enough to make. I do them in the nutra bullet because I have one and you can drink it right out of that cup you blend in so you don’t waste as much when it sticks to the blender and then the glass. Anyways, this is a really good source of protein when you’re sick of shakes but not really hungry. I often end up having them for night snacks when I get to the end of the day and my protein is low. -

I looked up a few recipes online because I don't normally like them. But I make a lentil soup that's yummy. And I make a chili and a 3 bean salad that really ups the fiber and protein. I also use the pasta for not only mac n cheese but also a type of goulash. I use the pasta and add spaghetti sauce, ground beef, and 3 different beans. I also add shredded cheese that I melt on top. OMG it's amazing. And the protein and fiber are really high. I make a spinach salad with chick peas, some kind of meat (steak or chicken), cheese, bacon bits, artichoke hearts (also high in fiber), avocado, black olives, and hardboiled eggs. I like to make fruit smoothies with almond milk or I'll do a fruit salad with banana, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, apple, and I mix it with greek yogurt. All of these recipes have high protein, fiber, and healthy fat content. -

I've been making Greek yogurt and skyr for years. I also use my instant pot. Lots of recipes for both yogurt and skyr online (skyr is made the same way, except you add a couple of drops of rennet, and it doesn't culture for as long (about five hours rather than the eight or so hours for yogurt). -

I get why you're feeling frustrated—it's tough when you're ready to move to the next stage and don't have the plan you were expecting. It's great that you've already started with things like hard-boiled eggs, lentil soup, and canned tuna/chicken. Those are solid choices! While you're waiting for your next appointment, you could try some soft foods like mashed avocado, Greek yogurt, or even well-cooked veggies. Just take it slow and pay attention to how your body reacts. You’re doing awesome, and your dietitian will have you back on track soon enough! -
Thank you so much. For the detailed repsonse i am indeed fed up of nuggets and shrimps which’s what my diet is predominantly composed of not bec of any indigestion but the restriction of the sleeve and my no interest I. Cooking I don’t like Greek yogurt. would love trying oatmeal but thought that would be too high carb frutis fill me fast at the cost of protein and fluids soups sound divine and recipes would be welcome ideas to diversify proteins beyond baked chicken and nuggets would also be very very appreciated

Did you tell your team about the changes in your stool. It sounds like they are trying to help with the nausea and the constipation but that sounds like something they should be aware of. Especially if it’s more than once. It could be something simple like one of the meds you are taking causing it but the doctor will know. If you are able to eat some foods, what about high protein yogurts or unflavored protein powder added to things? Also, if you are not getting enough fluids it could actually be causing your nausea. It’s sort of a catch 22. The more nausea you feel the less you drink but the more dehydrated you get the more nauseous. Do you have other signs of dehydration like darker urine? And have to talked to the Doctor or NP or just the front desk. Maybe schedule an appointment if not and just be sure that the medical team is getting all of the details because sometimes when trying to type it out in an email or whatever things get left out. It’s okay to be the squeaky wheel right now, you are struggling. Their job is not just to chop you up and put your back together. It’s to get you through the healing process too. That includes getting you back to being able to eat and function normally. You will get there. ❤️ -

Meals so far for today along with 6oz of caramel macchiato and a medium skinny mocha. Oh and my current calorie count. I’m not really hungry (it’s currently 6pm) so I might eat a snack but I dunno. Breakfast- plain nonfat Greek yogurt, strawberries, and a baked strawberry oatmeal bar cut up lunch- beans and peppers over Spanish rice and chihuahua cheese that I ate in the car because my son had an appointment. -

At 6 months I started to incorporate more carbs, but now at 8months post op this is what I do: Morning weight lifting Post work out -Protein ice coffee Breakfast- Egg White Turkey Sausage Bowl Snack: Nuts and fruit Lunch: This week is a chicken teriyaki bowl (I meal prep every weekend so bfast and lunches are always prepped) Post cardio snack: mini archer beef stick and sargento light cheese stick I have a yogurt with granola before I go home so I am not munching on junk while making dinner Dinner: is whatever I make the family just mine is smaller and instead of a lot of carbs Ill load up on the protein and veggies. Dessert: I made these chocolate pumpkin almond butter yogurt bites that are DELISH! I am not perfect by any means I am eating around 1800-2000 calories a day, 150g + protein, 120-160g carbs and 40-70g of fat. I have been able to maintain my weight -/+ 3lbs this month by doing this. Also, I weight list for 30-45min in morning and run 3miles in the afternoon M-F and Saturday I do HIIT workout for 35-40min and cardio for 35min. Which is why I eat a lot. I am coming to terms with it, last week I had a slight panic but this group is awesome. They gave me the advise do this for a month and see how it plays out. if I gain then I need to tighten up the rains, If I still lose (which I have not) then go up in 100calories increments. -

I am 9 months out and still sometimes use my protein shake when I know I didn’t met my protein intake and when I am on the run. I still have sweet tooth specially when it’s the time of the month. I try eating natural sugar from fruit to soothe my craving. I learn to love Greek yogurt. I put small portion of fruit, nuts, and sometimes with granola and drizzle of raw honey. This morning I put 3small figs, almond and walnut, a little bit of honey. It’s delicious. This morning -

I will add protein powder to my Greek yogurt some times or will make a protein smoothie myself to drink as a snack, but I got burned out on the premade protein drinks during my liquid phase and pretty much have not been able to stomach one since. I do love protein water though and that helps. I think I’m averaging 60-80 grams a day, but I feel like the goal they gave me is unattainable right now. I should be moving to soft food soon and then I think it will help with I can include tuna and chicken. -

If anyone likes Waldorf Salad, this was a good one. I made half the recipe but added one Skinless chicken breast (pretty big, 6.9oz after it was cooked) so I used the correct amount of yogurt. Low calorie, high protein relatively tasty dinner is marinating in the fridge ✔️ Some of you may want to peel the apple and leave out the walnuts of course, maybe even omit the celery (I just chopped it really small) and I know most of you guys can’t eat quite as much as me volume wise but for the halved recipe with the added chicken it makes two 1.5 cup servings and that’s 207 calories, 25g protein, 17g carbs. I will probably end up having half for dinner and the other half later for a snack. I figured if I find something I like maybe someone else will enjoy it too. Do you supplement with protein shakes or protein waters. The waters were my go to to reach my goal that early out. Another thing is the drinkable yogurts. I have all three on hand in case I’m low on protein through my meals. If so, I have one as a snack. I have actually made the drinkable yogurt myself with a regular yogurt and almond milk and a little fruit in a blender. Mine actually taste better. -
To ensure I get all my protein, I focus on incorporating a variety of protein sources like lean meats, legumes, and dairy into each meal. I also include protein-rich snacks throughout the day, such as nuts and Greek yogurt. Lastly, I consider using protein supplements if needed to meet my daily goals.

14 weeks post op no weight loss

You must be so incredibly frustrated! Which type of surgery did you get, the sleeve or the bypass? I'm at about 7 weeks post op from getting the sleeve + intestinal revision and my calorie consumption ranges from 500-700/day, with my carb intake less than 35/day and a protein goal of 60/day with fluids of at least 48oz/day. I agree with others - it seems like a good idea, regardless of any advice you get from this forum, to revisit your surgeon. That said, I do believe you hit the nail on the head for one with the alcohol, and secondly I'd ask how many of your calories are coming from carbs. It's ok to include carbs in your diet, but really, this early, unless you are very physically active there isn't cause for many of them. At this stage it's typical to eat no more than 1/2cup - 1 cup of total food per meal, three times a day (or spaced out into 4 meals if needed). That's including your protein, which as someone else said should be the first thing you eat. Another thing about alcohol - it tends to cause dehydration - so you'd need to be consuming even MORE water throughout the day to compensate for that, just like caffeine. If you aren't hitting your hydration goal (PLUS, because of alcohol) then your body will struggle to convert your stored fat into energy, which is what causes most of the weight loss. An example of what my diet looks like at this stage is a single serve yogurt for breakfast (I have been getting the Aikos zero sugar or 2Good ones) - Remember no drinking 30 minutes before or after, and your meal should last at least 20-30 minutes. For lunch I might have a 'tuna melt' - which I make out of 1/3 can of tuna in water, a zero net carb small tortilla, and maybe 1/8 cup of shredded cheese or a low fat string cheese (I cook it folded over like a quesadilla) with maybe 1/8 cup of low fat cottage cheese, then for dinner a serving of one of the many bariatric recipes - there's a ricotta bake (lasagna with no noodles, basically), unstuffed cabbage rolls (Kind of like egg roll filling), or maybe chicken or tuna salad made with low fat mayo and a dab of relish with some cucumber slices/2-4 saltine crackers. I use the free Baritastic App to track my food and fluid intake. Using a tracking app increases weight loss significantly from what I've been told because you can see and understand what exactly you're putting in your body. The good news is that as far as I know, it isn't too late to backpedal and reset yourself! I'm NOT a doctor but my understanding is that if you get off track after weight loss surgery, especially this soon, one way to 'reset' is to go back on a liquid diet for a week or two, with zero-sugar jello, zero sugar pudding, and protein shakes (less than 5g of sugar each) to hit your goals. After that, work your way back up to puree foods for a week, then soft foods for a week. I strongly recommend eyeballing the nutrition information on any shake you think of buying, too, because there are some that are loaded with sugar and have as many as 22g of carbs EACH. After weight loss surgery it's also strongly discouraged to have fried food at all for the first 6 months, and after that maybe once per month. The same goes for sweets and baked goods. Food I’ve eaten lately part 2: Fish tacos: Mini mission low carb tortillas, Spicy cabbage slaw, mashed avocado, yogurt jalapeño crema, grilled trout and homemade chimichurri with a side of homemade potato wedges. I had one whole taco. Spicy eggs with tomatoes and feta. Musakkhan. A Palestinian dish made with a layer of thin tawa bread topped with chicken cooked with lots of onions in olive oil and lots of sumac (Middle Eastern spice) and topped with roasted pine nuts (only had slivered almonds at hand). Had a thigh piece and small piece of bread. Wild arugula, sliced bell peppers, cucumbers, pomegranate seeds, sliced fresh figs, feta cheese. Had a 1/4 of this salad -

Nah. I don’t think losing too much will be an issue. I mean we can always add more calorie dense foods. Malnourishment is a possibility if you don’t keep up with your vitamins and get your labs done regularly though. Just have to be diligent. I have alarms set for all those times I mentioned that I eat a small meal and take a vitamin. 8am to wake up the. 9, 12, 3, 6 and 9 I eat my meals and snacks and take my vitamins. It makes it so much easier to just stick to that schedule. I keep them drinkable yogurts and protein shakes in the fridge for if I’m way too busy to stop and eat and that seems to work just fine for me. Just watch the labels on the yogurts because they like to sneak added sugars in there. I actually made my own the other day and plan to continue when I’m home because they are kinda pricey for the healthy ones. I just blended a container of vanilla high protein non fat greek yogurt, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk and 1/4 cup fruit. (I made it with fresh mango and it was really good but you can use any fruit of course). Ooh while I’m thinking of it, clear protein water and unflavored protein powder will come in handy during your first couple of stages to get to your protein goals. Not sure if you used them after your sleeve but they came in handy.
