re: revision - do you mean they're going to tighten the stoma? I've heard mixed results - but hopefully techniques have continued to improve.

Hi All! I’m having a revision on August 10th. I originally had gastric bypass September 2013 and was successful at losing 150lbs. Over the last 2 years I started gaining. I found out it was due to the opening from my stomach to my intestines fully opening and nothing staying in my pouch. My pouch is still it’s original size. I’ve gained 80lbs though I’ve tried my darnedest to do everything I could. And now I feel just disgusted with myself. I’ve been on a liquid diet and I haven’t lost even a pound in water. Now I’m worried a revision will not help. Does anyone have any experience with this? (I’ve put a call into my Dr but didn’t hear back from him) I would love to hear from anyone who has had a revision..thank you!!!

Sleeve revision (re-sleeving)
California Guy replied to klwilliams's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Modified DS has worked well for me. For me, bowel movements are different from prior to surgery. I'd say they are sporadic. I can have many in one day then none for a couple of days. I haven't had any lack of control. Having VSG surgery, losing weight and regaining was a lesson for me. Now this time around after the revision, I'm taking the nutrition plan seriously. I'm eating healthy foods all day at the right portions. I've never followed a diet plan so carefully before without having some junk food time to time. From the research I did prior to selecting this procedure, I read the modified DS is offered as a procedure that reduces dumping syndrome and diarrhea because you keep the pylorus (opening from stomach). Surgeons claim it has a lower degree of GI side-effects and resolves irritable bowel syndrome. Research your options and ask your surgeon all the questions you have. Good luck with your journey! -
Sleeve revision (re-sleeving)
GODSON replied to klwilliams's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello, I had my sleeve done in 2014 (394lbs down to 255lbs). I did regain weight aswell (295lbs.. current), original goal (230lbs never reached). My surgeon advising going with modified DS as a revision. He mentioned increased bowel movements with this procedure. How has this experience has been for you?. Im concerned about lack of control or the constant need to go and other possible side effects. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Anyone have their gallbladder removed during surgery?
SpecialK92 replied to jami.1992's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found out today that mine has to be taken out at the same time. Ultrasound from February showed chronic inflammation and my HIDA scan from this week showed that it was "hyperkinetic." I'm getting bypass, but due to GERD is what swayed my decision. -

Anyone for August 2020
PerezL84 replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Xfatboy007... I had the sleeve done in 2013. Lost about 70 lbs from 280 down to 210. However, my stomach pouch dialted causing me to eat more....as a matter of fat I was able to eat the same portions prior to the surgery. Now giving myself a second chance and based on my doctors advice with the bypass I should be able to reach my goal of 190 and maintain it along with my lifestyle changes and a good workout plan. RNY WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER + MY BDAY IN 3 SLEEPS!
New&Improved posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well I hope everyone is feeling good. Here in Australia in my state we are pretty much virus free thank God. Most of our shops are open and life is getting back to normal.. It is the middle of winter so been in front of the heater and just feeling good realising my BIRTHDAY is coming this Sunday... This year has gone so quickly. I'm 9 months post op and feeling amazing and just feeling appreciation for where I am in life right now and it's the first birthday in like 20 years I've felt this good and finally starting to love myself again. i do still have some anxiety issues and self esteem issues which I've just started seeing a new psych so that should help me transition to the new me. I know I look good and I feel good and I get compliments from strangers which is nice but it takes time to gain confidence and to be able to put yourself out there and meet someone.. My health is great. My weight is good but my life is not complete until I start a family 😁 Just the other day someone thought I was 30 which feels good since I'll be 36 this weekend but feel 26 😁 I also want people to know that the bypass RNY has done amazing things for me and to not feel scared, to have confidence in your DECISION. I've lost all my excess weight and kept it off and happy with myself. It takes alot of commitment, you cannot slack off, you cannot give in, you have to be ready to change your life and change your way of thinking!!! Anyway i know there's a few people who can't handle my humour or my personality but that's fine, I have plenty of family and friends who love me for me and that's what counts!! I LOVE ME TOO. SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. i will treat myself for my birthday I think I've earnt that. Thank you. -
How much guidance are you receiving before bypass surgery
New&Improved replied to Myturn4me's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I met with the surgeon a few times he explained each surgery in detail but I had already made up my mind to have the RNY bypass... He gave me some papers to read but I did tons of online research and months on this website to learn everything I needed.... Did see a dietitian once but she was clueless so I did it myself and it has worked out well... These days with access to Google and the www are able to find whatever we want... Not like the old days going to library hunting for out of date books LOL -
How much guidance are you receiving before bypass surgery
toodlerue replied to Myturn4me's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My i insurance Cigna has a dietitian & a RN call me every week or so to check on me I received so much help from them. See if your insurance has something like that! My bypass was for medical purposes only. I had a high BMI for my height (36%). Half of my stomach was above my diaphragm. Since my doctor was a Thorasic surgon (and the leading lung replacement doc in my state). The only direction I got from him was to get all my info from the internet! I didn't have any insurance hoops to jump through although it was pretty easy for my daughter to get approval. -
How much guidance are you receiving before bypass surgery
Myturn4me posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I met with my surgeon in February 2020 and he said bypass will be my best option. Based on my health insurance I have to meet with a Dietitian for 6 consecutive visits and have to talk with a Dietitian at the insurance company for 12 consecutive months as part of the requirements for surgery. I have a couple other requirements to meet also before being approved. I don't feel like I am getting knowledge on the Dietitian side of things from the hospital. They just ask if I have questions and their answers are always you will need to ask your surgeon when you see him again and that will not be until February 2021. I just want to know how to plan meals and how to make the most out of each stage of eating. I want to know how much it is going to hurt because I don't like pain. I just feel like I am not getting guidance on things and I feel like I am all by myself. Thank you for your time. -
Any foods that still ( or recently ) make you sick ?
Foxbins replied to BriarRose's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I haven't had scrambled eggs in 9 years, they come right back up. Over easy, fine, soft boiled, also fine. Hard boiled, iffy. Also (and I think this is so odd) I can eat pasta if it's just been boiled, but as leftovers the next day, even with more water or sauce added? Coming right back up. White meat chicken is a no-go, even with sauce. Salmon and tuna, nope. Bread balls up in my stomach and then swells up and hurts. Toast is okay. I can eat popcorn if I want, but I'm more of a chip person. I was converted to bypass a month ago for GERD and egg salad has been my friend. I'm wanting to try scrambled eggs but I'm a little afraid. Also I'd like to try a sandwich. Maybe next month. -

Appeal approved VSG to RNY on 8/11!
Starwarsandcupcakes posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I got the call from my surgeon’s office that my appeal for revision surgery was approved! Already scheduled surgery for 8/11! I can’t wait to get rid of this hernia. I can’t wait to get rid of the GERD and esophagitis. Most of all though, I can’t wait to get rid of these hiccups and be able to sleep more than 4hrs at a time without having to wake up and take tums again. -

Banner Bariatric Clinic (AZ) First Appointment
California Guy replied to Deemarie1221's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The seminar should be a toned down sales presentation for the medical procedures available. Everyone involved is either a caregiver, patient in need of WLS, or a patient that successfully went through the process. I've been through three "first" consultations. Once with a family member, once for myself, and once for a revision. Doctors are always very considerate. -

Awesome I will have to look into the Isopure because I really don’t like power protein either. My Current weight is 306lbs, Height 5’3 BMI is 54. My goal weight is 160lbs. Why are you choosing bypass now above the sleeve? -

Newbie on my Journey ... did you keep your journey a secret
klwilliams replied to Nikki50's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am fixing to start the journey into revision surgery, so to be honest, I’m kinda ashamed. After my sleeve (2011) I did lose a lot of weight, but have gained most back. So, long story short, my husband is the ONLY one who knows. I just don’t want to deal with the comments from anyone. I already feel like a complete failure, I don’t need anyone’s help with beating myself up. -
Gastric Bypass Peeps: Would you do it again?
barbara13339@gmail.com replied to Barbwired's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just wandered on to this site. I had my bypass 19 years ago. It is probably a bit different now. Iknow people who had a lap band and have gained back their weight. The bypass is harder to defeat but you can do it. I would dump if I ate chocolate or candy and with alcohol. I just kept eating chocolate and now I thrive om it. At first, I could not hold any liquor then it was clear and no it is anything at all. I don't dump anymore. But I don't enjoy ice cream and I used to live on it. But I eat cake and other sweets. I am a big baker. I was about 250 when I started out. Lost 80 and gained back 10. Not great given what I endured but I had a stricture and the fix for that enabled me to eat a lot more. Now I eat like I always did. So at 180 I was much better. No more reflux, which I had bad and I could walk without losing my breath. In time I managed to get to about 150 and stayed there. Even got to 145. Then something happened in my life to motivate me. Six months on WW with working out every day and I was religious about it. I got sown to 112 and stabilized at 114 - 115. It was not easy, but when you really want to do something, you will. That was over 3 years ago. I crept uo to 119 or so and got back to 116. I say am trying to get back to 114 but I have only done this half heartedly. If I really wanted it, I would. But I eat a lot of pizza and pasta and candy and nuts and I drink and have wine on occasion. The bypass is the best thing I have ever done for my health. I should have done it earlier. It totally changed my life. Losing the extra weight was all me. I had to work for it. Now I wear a size 6 or even 4. Lots of loose skin, because of my age, but I look great and I am very happy. I hope this is useful to you.. I am 70 years old. -
