  1. OK...the TT in 2007...It was easily the hardest in terms of recovery, because the abdominal muscles are involved. I had a lower body lift last summer, and that one is supposed to be the roughest, but it wasn't, in my opinion. The summer in between (2008) I had a breast lift. With all of these surgeries was miscellaneous liposuction, except with my TT when he also did a scar revision for something unrelated to my weight loss. A few weeks ago I had an arm lift (shorter scar) and a revision to the medial thigh lift from last year. I'm still pretty swollen from that, and the arm lift is not a pleasant surgery for recovery. The scars are ugly right now and my arms look thinner but they are nowhere near their end result. Same with the thighs. I go through this every time...I have a post from the past on the Dr. Schulman thread on this site where you can see my anxiety!! More to come...

  2. Hey! I just wondered... when you were having those chest pains last year, what did it end up being? I was banded 12/28/09 with port revision 2/2810. In the last week I've started having this completely random dull achy thing in the center (slight slight slight left) of my chest. Literally feels like it's in my left breast almost! I'm just curious. Does this seem like what you had? Did it resolve? Did the dr. intervene? It seems to have no pattern... can happen a few times a day or several... doesn't matter if I'm full or empty... lying down or standing... morning or night... nada. Completely random.

  3. Yes medicare covers revision, but you must have a bmi over 35 with one co-morbidity, or over 40.

    good luck with yours

  4. Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you are also having issues with your port. My port kept flipping on me, so I finally insisted on the revision to RNY. I have to say the recovery after having the band removed I feel SOOO much better. The recovery time was really quick too. Within a week I was off all pain meds.

Now I'll be having RNY done on 2/23 and I can't wait :)

  5. Hello - I never thought I would be wanting this ...been on the million different diets all my life which of course have all failed - or, have I failed ?

I am in so much pain that I have to get the weight off because I want to live my life full - and it is not full right now !

I also have Crohns disease - so I don't know if anyone will do this sx - I know I cannot have the bypass - which is disappointing because I think it works better - but I will take what I can get - I welcome conversation with anyone else that has Crohns; who has had or is getting this done : ) BUT I welcome conversation with anyone too!userfield_edit.gif

  6. Hi there

Wow our stories are similar & I am thinking about converting to RNY. My port site is poorly placed & has been painful from the get-go. I havent lost but 9 lbs in 7 months. I dont think mine has ever worked properly. I'm looking for a new surgeon. I hope your removal went well & good luck w/the bypass.

  7. I'm back to being 100%...piece of cake right? LOL I'm assuming you're doing well. Hope everything went well. Did you stay overnight?

Oh btw, I went to the support group last night (at Fair Oaks), it was a little better then the one in Woodbridge, a lot more people. There were still some of the bypassers that thought they were the end all be all but I guess that comes with the territory. :) Dr. Halmi actually went and talked to us, which was cool.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  8. Lol. I need to start too, haha, i've been doing some things in my school work room, but I pulled something today, so i'm kind of backing off a little lol. xD Wow, that's a lot of walking lol. I like to walk too, and in school, I do a hell of alot of it. In my class we can't sit down for over 2 hours, and were always running back in forth on a time schedual to get everything perfect. =.] I went down 2 pants sizes since school started lol! Zombie prom?! That sounds awesome! Wish we had one of those lol. Haha, awe. =.] I wish you luck with him. My boyfrend and I just had our 2 year anniversery. ^_^. The mini bypass is as effective as the band, and yeah it's a small bit. I believe she lost over 200 pounds. I have bad knees too, but it runs in the family. Yeah, shoes are important when working out. I learned that the hard way. Lately my hip has been acting up, and popping out. xD So it affects how fast I can move, lol.

  9. I know you are getting close, my daugter and you are about due the same time. I am keeping my prayers going up for a speedy and smooth delivery for you. My daughter in law just gave birth to our fourth grandson last Monday, he was 8 lbs and l oz. Michael Wesley, just a little doll. Now I am looking forward to our second granddaughter from my oldest daughter. She had PCOS and tried for 8 yrs. to conceive now AVA will be here in a few day. God is so Good to us. My daughter in law had gastric bypass several years and has had two children, she always loses right back down. God Bless You.

  10. That's crazy! Sure sounds like they were missing that port during previous fills. Hopefully, the restriction will stick with you this time. And, you don't have to have your port revised. Let me know how it goes.

  11. Hi Tamisu,

Its great to hear from someone in my timezone. What is your pre-op diet? I am supposed to start mine tomorrow and I was given VERY little specific guidance. The few people I know here who had weight loss surgery had the bypass. I think I am the guinea pig for this particular proceedure. What doctor are you going through? My doctor is Dr. Weinar in Frankfort. I get back to the states next Sunday and have the surgery on Thursday.

Heidelberg is amazing. We have been here here for 9 months. We live in St Leon.

If you don't mind sharing your liquid diet, I would really appreciate it! Good luck you you to!

  12. Hi Emily: There has been a glitch again with my mom having the gastric bypass procedure at Valley Care. She had the colonoscopy and a endonscopy both of which show some issues that need to be delt with.

I have still not told her of my procedure as I just don't have the heart too, inlight of how many years she has been struggling to have the bypass. Not sure if she will ever have the bypass now.

  13. OMG, I never even saw this message! :o I'm so sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I don't check in here very often.

I'm thrilled with Dr. H. I don't like that the lapband doesn't have as much support through the support group and whatnot he offers, but I'm not a support group type person anyway, so I doubt I'd go if there was one. Does that even make sense?! I got way more support through this site. But, Dr. H is top-notch. I was self-pay for the surgery and have never had to shell out another penny, even for my fills, and I'm now 2 years out from the surgery. I had to have my port revised in Jan of 07 and was never charged a penny for that.

It can take a bit to get a fill appointment sometimes, but that's more because I'm limited on the times I can get to the office.

How have you been doing since the surgery? Are you happy with the results so far?

    Tracey

  14. Hi! I just wanted to update you on my progress of switching to the bypass. I had another round of blood work today, a chest x-ray, pulmonary function test and an ekg, I am now set for surgery. I have an apt Nov 6th and will be scheduled for January. We only have one surgeon here and they are scheduled that far ahead. How are things coming along for you? did you get a date yet? Best of luck keep me posted.

  15. I had the gastric bypass also known as Roux-en-Y.

  16. Hi! I am home doing well, I ended up having the gastric bypass, I don't know if I told you or not. Lots of GAS!!! I have been walking like crazy.

  17. i dunno ... LOL, ask me after i deliver and see how my tummy looks.

but to be honest, i knew i'd need some sort of revision anyway cause i still had weight to lose, i basically wanted to get rid of my pannus - it was hindering my exercising ... soooo, i will get a revision (more than likely - who knows though) and some other PS later...

Let me know how it goes!

  19. Hey you!!! I had my first consult today. I'm more confused than ever! He really has me considering the bypass! He said he would do either on me but he said I would do better with the bypass. I just don't know.. the results are so much faster it makes it hard to pass..I gotta study the bypass like I did the band. The upkeep for the band is such a turn off for me. I dont know what I'm gonna do arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!! How are you?

  20. I would rather eat my calroies than drink them. I run on the treadmil for 2 miles at lunch and then do a 50 min workout at home. I will do 100 sit ups before I go to bed at night. It is all in what you put into it. I had a little trouble when I went in to get a fill. I was 5 months and just going in for my first fill. They found out that my port had flipped and I would have to go back in for surgery to get it stiched back in. After the revision surgery (two weeks later) I was able to get my first fill. After the fill I kept having problems with certain foods. I would have to throw up about every other day. I told my doctor and the suggested that I come in to have some fluid taken out. The doctors weighed me and found out that I was losing 5 lbs a week. Which is great weight loss for me but I told them I would rather not lose it that way. So they took out .10CC of fluid and I have been doing great again! I am on my average 3 lbs weight loss a week and I can eat anything so far.

  21. Karen,

I read your post on one of the threads, I'm currently having a hard time with my band, it has slipped for the second time and my surgeon has recommended either replacing it with the Realize, taking out the band completly or revising to gastric bypass. The gastric bypass surgery makes me very nervous just because it is such an intense surgery/recovery. I was just wondering what your experience was like with a revision with the bypass and also what is your typical diet like for a the day. Thanks so much!

  22. Hi there,

I'm doing pre-surgery research and came across one of your posts when doing a search under Verboonen. I notice that you had an unsuccessful gastric band with Verboonen and a revision with Dr. Peatment to VSG. I am wanting to the the VSG and looking at Verboonen for the procedure. Do you have any advice? I am also an RN and thought you could give me some insite. Thanks!
