    Where are you noticing it?

I am noticing it in my clothes now. They are okay just out of the dryer but after a couple of hours I look all droopy. My face and chest and neck is the first place I loose.

    Is this working for me??

Oh sweetpea, please, please don't feel that way. Everybody is different, everybody looses or gains at different rates. I, personally, love to look at the before and after photos....I keep seeing folks who have lost quite substantial amount of weight by the time their "bandiversary" comes around. It got me thinking, just today, that I'm approaching mine in a few months and I'm just not there. My weight-ticker reads current: 196.....Bah! only saw that for a few days! Now the scale is traveling in the other direction. I'm at about 200 now. I've had that failure feeling too. But c'mon!!!! We elected to have SURGERY for our weight problems, we came through that just fine! Lets be as brutally honest with ourselves as possible....what are we, maybe doing, that is failing our band? Snacking between meals, grazing on a teaspoon of this and a bite or two of that? Are we following the band rules as well as we could? I am having the same problems that you are with food: meat & especially chicken & eggs! Yeah, I don't eat anywhere near as much as I used to, but I also know that ice cream and chocolate are not on the plan...and I've had both (more than once!) I have only had two fills. both small, and in fact, the second fill sent me going back a week later for a slight "unfill". I'm not doing as good as everybody else...but I'm not a failure either!!! And neither are you! We CAN do this! Lets pay attention more to what we're doing.....maybe it's all the "little stuff" that's adding up and sabotaging our success? Let's stop focusing on the "one year" thing and give ourselves time.....How 'bout a 5 year plan, LOL! Chin up. We're gonna be just fine!

    abbypoo!!!!!

Thanks for all your kinds words. Yesterday was my first day post-op and let's just say it was ROUGH. I've never had a major surgery before, so I guess I was just naive about the amount of pain and discomfort I'd experience after the surgery. On top of that, after I was discharged from the hospital we still had to drive from Detroit back to Wisconsin. Phew. I was so glad to be home. My mom was here waiting for me and went and filled all my prescriptions and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible. She also gave my exhausted boyfriend some respite. I'm glad I ended up getting the surgery, but I now know that if I end up having extra skin there is no way I'm going in for plastic surgery! As far as pain goes the narcotics they gave me are definitely taking care of that. My only complaints are my complete lack of desire to want to drink anything and that I'm a little gassy. Not too bad, overall.

    Desperate for restriction!!

Somedays the struggle seems so hard and others days I am at the top of the world and I think nothing can stop me now:smile2: When I reached a stand still at 250 lbs for 6 weeks I thought this was it, this is as low as I can go. I got over that and now I think 220 is as low as I can go. Our minds play such trips on us. At the end of June I ate non stop crap for three days and the end result was of course a large weight gain.(It has taken me untill today to loose that gain.) All the thoughts of failure, what have I done, I've spent all our money on this very expensive DIET and now it's not working what the hell am I going to do. My daughter told me in a loving way of course to "Suck it up Buttercup" and not to let the scale run my life or to dictate how I feel on a day to day basis. Such a smart girl. All I can do is live day to day and hope that one good day leads to another and when I do have a bad eating day (and I have had them and I will continue to do so sometimes) I can get back up and move forward. This band I have helps me get back up when I am down, but I too have to help it in any way I can in order for us to work effectively as a team. Sorry this is long and rambley but I just wanted you to know that I too fall off the wagon and overeat crap but it really is possible to get back on track. I have not weighed this little since 25 years ago. The head hunger is very hard to controll and remember even with proper restriction it is still possible to eat crap so take it one day at a time and you will get there:thumbup: cc

To Tell or Not To Tell.....

I only told a few people and even now I'm regretting telling them. I had forgotten my lunch and ran to KFC. I got a piece of chicken and took the skin off...I'm back on regular food now. This person knew all about it, we've talked in great length about things and how it works. The crap I got...I was told "I thought you were only allowed to eat boiled skinless chicken?" Yeah, nice. I don't need a coworker policing my food, especially if it's one stinking piece of chicken. Shoot me now! :help:
  9. I'm a sixty year old woman with Afib. Had a heart attack about four years ago and my doctor has been trying to get me to loose weight. I've tried believe me I've tried them all in the last 30+ years with no success. I just can't seem to stay on a diet longer than 4 months so cardiologist is recommending the lapband. I have heard good things and I have heard bad but no real information as to what you can eat afterwards. Do you loose weight so fast that you end up needing plastic surgery to get rid of the rolls of loose skin? I've also heard that many people gain their weight back in about 10 years. This all scares me but having another heart attack frightens me more. So if anyone has any information or advice please send it my way. I have to make this decision before Oct of next year when my husband retires and our insurance changes. As it is I'm hoping our insurance will cover at least part of this since it is for a life threatening reason. Thanks. Deb
  10. I had to wait 5 weeks after surgery before I got my first fill. It's hard to be patient, I know, but you have to think of this in the long-term. In my case, it has taken almost 2 years to lose 97 pounds. I am still about 10 pounds from goal, but I don't really work at losing any more, so it serves me right. I wear a size 2/4 and couldn't be happier - except for the vacant skin that is still (literally) hanging around. Depending on which band you have, it may take several fills to achieve good restriction. Don't expect to hit the "sweet spot" with your first one. One more thing....you will do 100 times better if you follow the bandster rules. Eat protein first, then veggies, then carbs. Stay away from liquid calories (ice cream, chocolate, etc) and exercise. GOOD LUCK!!!
  11. Well, I've had a recent experience with this, though I'm a guy and it's a little different... I feel that if you're going to be in a relationship and you're trying to build that trust, if they discover the port and ask, then you can give details. When my port was discovered (which it's pretty easy to feel since it's so close to the skin on me), I just mentioned I had surgery and left it at that. She didn't seem too much more interested when she saw I wasn't too thrilled about her finding it. But if your partner wants details, you can disclose that information as vague or detailed as possible. To be honest, I'd just say it's a scar from a minor surgery and leave it at that. Hopefully they won't inspect it and say, "it feels like there's plastic in there."

    what happpened to plication

It seems to be working fine on the app. It's an issue with our mobile skin.
  14. Your frustrations are valid...and never doubt the therapeutic value of writing about your feelings. And for the record, it is much easier for most men to loose weight then women; their metabolism is just tuned that way. You are wise to be motivated and proactive to gain control and loose weight at this stage of your life...it doesn't get any easier as time passes. Many on the forum share similar frustrations, so this is a great place to vent and have a positive support system. Best wishes for approval for your surgery...

    Annoyed with hubby

I know I should wait for the state list, what if I need plastic surgery after for skin or something, that can add up as well. There is no way to find out where you are on the list. Its policy of the state, there are so many people on the states list for various things that they have no capacity to handle all the inquiries, so..they just don't answer any. However, I may have an inside track, my husbands uncle is a doctor and he said he will talk to some one at the hospital where they do it for me. So hopefully in a few days I will hear something from him....otherwise i just wait. In Portugal its all about who you know to get something done...

Hi AppleBottom! The MSRA infection rates will vary from hospital to hospital. Since you work in a hospital, you probably know that MRSA has colonized on the skin of lots of people that don't even know they have it (as a hospital employee, you could be colonized right now), which is why handwashing is sooooo important. The only hospital staff that should even have cause to touch your incisions are the OR staff (and they'll be sterile). That makes it important for you to make sure your own hands are clean before you mess with the incisions. I know it's easy for me to say, but MRSA would be a pretty minor worry. There's lots worse bugs floating around in a hospital.
  17. Okay I am 2 1/2 wks post op and have not had much wt loss. The wt I have lost has mainly been from the gas. I am eating like a bird, exercising 5x/wk on the elliptical and taking all my Vitamins. I am also really hungry all the time. Is it normal to not loose much in the first few weeks after surgery? And will I start loosing more once I have my fill in a few wks? I guess I am worried that the band is not going to work for me. ~Sarah

    My Hair....

Take your Vitamins....your multi-Vitamin w/zinc should be a complete vitamin & 100% of recommended daily value...my nutritionist recommended Flintstone chewables 2x's a day. Biotin is good for hair skin & nails...I use the max strength....omega 3 ...they have smaller gel capsules that are more expensive.

No second fill for me today

Your doctor likes making you come back all the time? Didnt he deny you on first fill visit? or was someone else post? I had appointment in April but I called doctor, so now i got new appointment on 4th March for second fill. You seem to be loosing at a good amount, keep up good work
  20. I had my first fill last week (4/2) and I'm so excited with the results thus far. I thought I'd share the experience so that others who have no idea what happens in a fill will not be so worried. My doctor had me lay on the table. He looked at my incisions, talked to me for a minute about what he was going to do, then got right to work. He first felt where the port is supposed to be. Mine tended to move around a bit the first few weeks, and that created a bit of a problem for him hitting it (took him 4 sticks). He prepped my skin with a cleanser and offered to use Lidocaine, but I declined. The needle is attached to a syringe holding the saline. I wasn't really worried about the needle, so I didn't notice how long it was. He had me raise my legs while laying on my back. Apparently that does something with the abdomen that allows him to feel the port better. Once he got in with the needle, he had me sit up. He put in like 9 ccs at first so that I would know what it feels like to be "stuck." Not a pleasant feeling, but he then took some of that saline out to relieve the pressure. It didn't really hurt, just pressure that made me feel like burping and I felt it in my chest and back a bit. So once I understood what it feels like to be stuck, he then took some of the saline out, and experimented with the correct amount to put in at this point. I ended up with 6.5cc for my FIRST fill. I am excited that I have more than 1-2 as I have read from some of you.. He had me drink a bottle of Water and tell him how I felt with each adjustment of the saline. When I felt like I could feel the pressure but it wasn't painful to drink, he stopped and said we'll make another adjustment in 5 weeks. At this point it is definitely working to keep me from eating a bunch of food. I had to go on a 4 day post-fill diet, which wasn't real hard because it is basically what we did post-op, just one day at each phase. Now I am able to eat all textures and types of food (as long as they are healthy). I can only eat a few bites at this point, but the swelling will go down and that will change. I do get hungry within 2 hours of eating, but I've been drinking lots of water and that helps. So, that basically tells the story of my first fill. I am so excited that I have this tool. It was a bit frustrating to have had the surgery and wait for 7 weeks before getting any help from the tool. Right now though, I'm a happy woman! 6.5ccs in the first fill and it is working to keep me from eating much at a time.
  21. I don't post often but lurk almost daily. I am almost 2 years out, lost 50 lbs the first year and 30 so far this year. I have always been a slow looser and I have to work hard at it. There have been 2 times when I stalled for 2 months or so. (total bummer, but I did not let it get to me, I kept going) Anyway recently I was laid off from my job.....last time I was not working was in 1983 or so, so this is completely forien to me. (and scary) But I have learned that anytime you make a major change in your life it is easier to change other things, I guess because it is in the air. So I did not have to eat Breakfast before I went to work cause I did not have to go to work, there was no standard "lunch time" either. So I was not eating because I was not hungry and my scheduled eating times went out the window. I AM NOW ONLY EATING WHEN I AM HUNGRY, NOT BASED ON MY SCHEDULE FOR EATING! I know a lot of us have talked about the clean plate club and all, but now it has hit me in the face. And what about the 3 squares a day? I have come to the realization that my estimate of what one normal person needs to eat in a day is seriously to much. I would like to see laid out on a table how much say a 150 lb person should eat in a day, and how often. After thinking about this alot I also realized that I have had the idea of three square meals a day drilled into my head and that it is just not necessary. Not my idea of a meal anyway.:nervous And then I recall my little sister being made to sit at the dinner table till it was bed time because she did not finish her food. I had finished mine and I am very large, but my sister now at 45 years old is still 120 lbs and had 2 children. I love my sister and we are best of friends now but it was really hard growing up overweight with 6 very normal brothers and sisters. My point in all of this is that this revelation has now helped me begin to loose again, 5 lbs last week! In fact over the holidays at one point I began feeling ill and could not figure out what it was, well I was not eating enough because of everything going on. I had not had enough time to eat, I had to start stopping myself to take time to eat so I do not get that low again. I have always kept myself well fed I had never felt this way before. The moral of this story is to change it up. (my thinking, my routine and my mothers rules) This has helped me learn more about my eating habits and begin to turn the tide on my unrealistic food thoughts. Hope this will help someone else, best to all. Trish
  22. So I have been speed walking three miles a day for the past few weeks. Today I decided to jog. It was not hard and I could do it just fine unlike before. HOWEVER my loose skin and the fat left in my stomach and thighs is bouncing so bad if feels like a weight pulling me down. Is there anything that you can recommend to stop this from happening? Thank you!
  23. Hey everyone! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I had my 5th adjustment today, the doc added 0.5ccs to my band. I'd tell you the total amount of ccs that I have now but to tell you the truth, I have lost count. Anyways, the last fill I had until today was Feb. 22 of this year. I knew I was doing good since this fill with finally starting to loose the weight and all. I noticed my clothes were getting really baggy on me but didn't pay alot of attention to how much I was loosing. I was informed today that since my last fill I had lost 36 pounds. OMG!!! You could have knocked me over with a feather when he told me. 36 pounds in less than 2 months. I was so excited that I couldn't stop smiling for the longest. I have another appointment in August and he says that with the way I am loosing now, I should be down to about 160 or 150 by the time I come back. I am so looking forward to my next visit and these next 4 months to see how good everything is going and how much I will be loosing over these next few months. Only thing bad about my fill today. Now for the next 24 hours, I am on a liquid diet, then tomorrow back to the mushy diet, then Friday, I get to return to a full diet. I know I can get past today easily since I haven't even really been hungry since he adjusted me and drinks are filling me up. I wish everyone nothing but success and happiness with their band. For anyone that may get frustrated with not loosing weight like they want to or think they should. DO NOT GIVE UP!!! The weight loss will come in time and before you know it, you will be able to wear that cute little bathingsuit during the summer.

    mucus

I have this problem with most foods. Whenever I eat within an hours time I am sick to my stomach and I start vomiting phlegm many times. Eventually, after vomiting nothing but clear mucus I finally loose what ever I ate but it is a couple of hours, so of course the food has left the pouch and has reched my stomach. I have already had a slippage and don't want another one. The solution is to take "Gas-X" everytime I eat and then everything is fine. However, I would perfer not to take Gas-X for the rest of my life. Has anyone else ever experience anything like this?:wink2:
