Don't get frustrated. I was in a stall from 2-10 weeks post-op. The scale finally moved again this week. I have the opposite problem...I dropped 3 sizes but now I'm inbetween 2 sizes (and have been for about a week or so). Today I have on baggy pants that I had to use a belt (to camoflauge how baggy they are) and roll and tuck the waist. Let's just say...not at all sexy if my shirt flies up. Which of course will happen because I ride public transit to work and if I really don't want something to happen, it will. I just gave 3 large trashbags of clothes to my family and donation. I have another bag I packed up 2 nights ago. All my clothes I just wanted to lose into are now too big. I thought I would enjoy this part, but not so much when it means you have to spend even MORE money just to look presentable. But, again, I'm in an inbetween size so I can't even go grab a few cheap things until I lose more inches/weight. I've decided I will continue to roll and tuck what clothes I do have left and make the most of it. I'm really looking forward to cooler days so I can at least hide under a jacket. Here's to hoping we both lose into the next size or 2 down.

Hi Shasta, Congratulations and best wishes on your surgery next week! Go to Graphical Tickers and Trackers: Weight Loss, Trying To Conceive, Pregnancy... and go through the steps. Afterwards it will give you code to copy and paste..you will go to your user cp here and click on edit signature on the left hand side. Paste that code there.

Good luck for next week! Sounds like you have a fab bloke there - after all the years of dieting I think one of the hardest for me is seeing other people eat in front of me....so I can applaud his not eating in front of you, and the comments like 'Go on, one won't hurt'...... I think I shall hole myself up when I get to do my pre op diet!! Kathy

My surgery is in 5 days and I have been REALLY freaking out! About a week ago I had someone from this site contact me that has the same surgery date and same surgeon that I do! Come to find out that my surgery is at 9am and hers is at 10:30! I found such great comfort in this. I was able to speak with her on the phone tonight and come to find out when I went for my last appt with my surgeon last Tuesday I was standing right behind her and didnt even know it! On that same visit I met another lady that is getting sleeved by my surgeon right before me! What are the odds that I would meet the two women that are having their surgery right before and after me. I realized that I was so freaked out because I felt really alone (even though my family is super supportive) No one understands our struggles like our fellow sleevers! I feel so blessed and comforted to have been able to meet both of these women. I now feel so much more at peace and am more excited than ever. I never realized that at the end of this journey I would be making new friends. Thank you ladies!

I have some doubts but then I talk myself out of them. My friend from work is trying her best to talk me out of this because of our co-worker (that had the band) throwing up at our pizza party. I'll I have to say is don't eat pizza!!!!!!!!!!! I consider that thick bread. Keep in touch

Hello I'm new to the forum! I went from the lap band to sleeve one week ago because I lost absolutely no weight with the band. My band was done by Dr. Rodriguez in Juarez, Mexico and by sleeve was done by Dr. Mario Almanza in Tiajuana. I must say the sleeve already seems like a much better fit than the lap band as I have already lost 5 pounds! However, i wonder when will the pain end? When I drink anything other than water right now, I get a pain in the top part of my stomach. Is that normal? It feels a little scary to me even though the doctor said that its normal. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping its just my stomach healing and it will get easier day by day.

Hi Anthony! Welcome! You are 10 days behind me. I had my surgery on Sept 6 so I am now 3 days post op. I feel great! Good for you for not giving in to those moments of weakness, you gotta be strong! I was on a week of liquid Protein before my surgery. I gave in and had 1/2 a cucumber slice, twice. My husband scolded me so much you would have thought I'd eaten a banana split! I am determined to be successful with the lap band, my health demands it. Good luck on 9/16, and keep in touch! Carolg903

What would you do different??
TXbandit replied to yourowndestiney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My expectations were too high. I expected to lose 30 lbs right away :smile2: Then another 30 the next week :tongue2: and the last 5 could be lost slowly. Ha Ha! In reality, I can eat anything, just not much of it. Wt loss is slow but sure, and it feels good to be full. I don't constantly think about and want food like before. Excercise helps alot. I have had 3 fills, and get a little more restriction each time. I haven't ever barfed! :huh2: I guess I expected to be instantly thin, even though I knew better in my mind. That caused some down times for me at first, but I finally woke up to reality. It is a very "freeing" experience, even if the weight comes off slowly, 'cuz I don't have my "diet" on my mind constantly. -
Was kind of an uneventful vist. Didn't learn anything new. Other than high cholesterol, I don't have any other comorbidities. So the med chart review was easy. Left there with an " ok, we'll contact your insurance and let you know.". Guess I was expecting something a little different.......no worries tho. It will all come soon enough. It's been since January, so a few more weeks or months wont hurt.

I'm off work 8 days after surgery so I appreciated your question. I am a nurse and can delegate on the llifting part of my job for a while. I was wondering the same thing about how i would feel in a week. Good luck to you...

I think you'll be fine in a week. I went on vacation on my second week and did things like swimming, hiked a cave, etc. I got tired but wasn't in any pain. I carried my 6 yr old (he's light, about 30 lbs) with no problems. My port site was still a little sore for awhile but not painful. It took the longest to heal. Best of luck to you!!

Hi all! I have finally finished jumping through insurance hoops and am just waiting for approval to get my band. I was wondering what your experiences are with recovery time? I was planning on taking a week off(which is all I can manage). I am a house parent in a group home and I currently care for 12 children. I can pretty much refrain from picking up some of my kiddos and hoisting my bod up into a big huge van but I am worried that I will jar something loose. Am I being too unrealistic? Thanks in advance!

My surgery is Tuesday also and after 2 weeks of Optifast I am ready to chew the bark off the trees! But I have noticed the increase in energy and absolutely no cravings for anything sweet whatsoever! So the band has got to be a continuation of this I would think! I'm seeing my ankles for the first time in 2 years! The swelling is gone. My midsection is shrinking already. My biggest fear is my age will prevent the weight from coming off. I know it gets harder as we get older but I've always had the lousiest metabolism. Good Luck to you!

Anyone else had problems with diet 2 weeks post op
vsgjourney posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im 2 weeks post op. I was looking forward to adding protien and yogurt to my diet but im not able to tolerate anything besides the clear liquid diet. Has this happened to anyone else? My stomach is bloated all day long when i try to incorporate protien shakes, dannon light and fit greek, diet v8, and fat free cream soups. -
Will I ever enjoy food again? How long does it really take for one to get use to their new eating routine? Random question.. I'm almost 2 weeks out and can't get down liquids like I need and can only take about 2 to 3 bites of purée foods.
-
You will be able to enjoy food, you won't have the hot torrid love affair that you had with it previously, but instead it will be more a casual friendship. All I can tell you about getting things down is to go very slow. Don't use straws, try to stay hydrated and not worry so much about anything else. I was on a 2-2-2 post op plan 2 weeks of liquid, 2 of puree 2 of soft. Just go slow and and be patient. Liquid first, then worry about the food part. Hang in there!

Hi, rice may get stuck and even though it's soooooo good, it's not really that great for us bandsters. No protein at all. Just starch which turns into sugar. Mashed pot. aren't so great for us either but at least they won't get stuck. I cut chicken chunks up into tiny, tiny pieces during this stage and chewed them thoroughly. I also ate lots and lots of Yoplait yogurt and SF jello. There's many soups out there too that would be seen as mushy stage food. Cream of pot., Dinty Moore Beef Stew is great too. Just mash up the chunks with a fork. My doc. let me have homemade chili with ground beef at 2 weeks. It went down fine. I had no problems until my first fill. At this time, I began having food get stuck and throwing up. I had to learn how and what to eat. It's a learning process. Just try things you think you might can handle...just a little at a time. Good luck.

3 months out - some things I learned
New Me 2015 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Everyone! First some background- I started my journey with my first pre-op appt in sept 2014. I was 221lbs and 5'2". Had to do 6 months with nutrition for my insurance company. I lost 20 lbs in those 6 months and insurance approved my surgery. I was sleeved on 3/16/15 and surgery day weight was 201. On my 3 month surgiversary I weighed in at 156 lbs. I never took my measurements but wish I had. I went from wearing size 18/20 pants to wearing a size 10. Shirts were size 2X now down to a large shirt is wearable and a medium is better but slightly snug. I don't go crazy with exercise. I figured it wasn't sustainable for me. I try to at least workout 3x/week either I walk 2 miles at a quick pace or I do 30-45 min at the gym alternating cardio and strength training. I knew I could keep up a plan of doing that everyday. I'm happy if I get it in 2X/week and if I do 3 that's a plus! It was definitely hard at the beginning no being on liquids and the puréed foods. I started a journal at the beginning and it helped when I was feeling low to go back and read how far I had come. It does get better. Being on unrestrictive food is wonderful. Don't get me wrong there are sometimes especially during dinner I wish I could eat more. Especially if it's a really yummy meal. I pushed my sleeve to the limit twice and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I felt horrible. Felt like I was going to throw up, got feeling I wanted to Pass out and got hot and sweaty. It lasted for about 30 min and rest of night just felt horrible. I ignored my sleeve when it told me enough food. I start to hiccup when my sleeve says no more food and I normally stop when I start hiccuping. But I have to say those 2 times were enough. I stop when my sleeve says stop. I have been eating out at restaurants again but make good choices and always have them bring me a small plate and I put what I can eat on the small plate and have them bring me a box to put my leftovers in so they aren't tempting to me. Then I have them the next day and sometimes the day after that. I still have a protein drink and 1/2 of a protein bar a day to help get in my protein. I have learned that I can have a few carbs and not feel guilty. I have a biscuit sometimes it a whole one sometimes it's a half. But I don't eat all 6 like I used to. I can eat 1/2 of a cupcake if I'm at a birthday celebration and that's enough. I don't need to eat 4 or 5 of them that half is just enough to make me feel normal. I guess what I learned with carbs is don't beat yourself up. Someone told me it's a tool to help you be the best you can be. I am actually loving being able to go out to social situations and to participate in choosing food that makes me feel good. Not food that after I eat I feel guilty like I did before surgery. I don't do it all the time or everyday like I used to but it's great to know I can occasionally if I choose to. I will be fine, my sleeve is fine. I feel better than I ever have. I had been over 200lbs for about 20+ years. I know it's tough at the beginning but it will get better. Keep on focusing on goals that are for your best interest and health. You have to be able to sustain these for the rest of your healthy active lifestyle. I have some more weight to loose as I'm only 3 months out. They tell me 111lbs is my ideal weight. I personally think that's way to low for me. I think 120-125 will be best for me. I know that everyone is different and I'm just saying what I have experienced and what is working for me. Your experience maybe different. No 2 people are the same. Here's wishing you and me a successful And healthy journey!!
