    Week 3

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. Everyone stalls, and almost every one stalls about three weeks after surgery. As others have suggested, just make sure you are getting in enough Protein and Fluid. If the numbers on the scale are driving you crazy then stay off the scale! Week 3

I, too, am at 3 weeks and have stalled. I have been averaging about 65 Protein, definitely getting enough Water, and walk at least 6 miles per day and go to the gym three times a week for 40 minutes. My calorie intake has been no higher than 700 per day. I haven't lost a pound in about ten days:( Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Week 3

Don't over do it on the exercise people! Your bodies just had surgey. They are healing and also adjusting to the low calories. 30 minutes 3-4 times a week is plenty. The stalls or gains may be caused by doing too much and your bodies not getting enough nutrition sending it into starvation mode. If you are not over eating, then do not over exercise either. I had a 3 week stall when I started working out. When I slowed down only doing 30 to 45 mins on weights and or walking then I started to lose again. But, I'm 10 weeks out now and I haven't lost anything this past week again. I'm okay with it because I know I could be doing better with my Water intake and Protein too. I didn't think I would have to watch my diet so much after surgery but I am still very glad I had it. The reason being... I do not constantly think about food. Fatty high carb and sugary foods make me extremely nauseous just to think about them now. Surgery has changed my way of thinking when it comes to food. That is my solution! Things will start moving again, It's all good!
  4. How do people going about dark sad feelings when doing the gastric bypass diet when you have zero friends or family who support you? I've been having this problem and it has been a struggle. I feel very alone and when I'm lonely and sad I want to eat but I know I cannot emotional eat. On top of that my wls surgery is May 15th so I cannot afford to do that. I feel like I've been feeling a million emotions at once. It's very hard for me these few weeks between not being able to eat much, only liking water and ice and it hurts to swallow due to my bad allergies, I'm just miserable! I just feel like I wish I had more people to vent to about these feelings besides my bariatric journal or my psychologist. I notice when I talk out my emotions it's better instead of feeling them because they derail me tremendously.

    How long until mushies?

4 weeks after surgery I was allowed mushies, 5th week was solid food
  6. In August I had my last fill of .3 ccs, bringing me to 7.1 total. I felt green for a long time. Then, in December I started to throw up frequently and I had awful acid reflux in the middle of the night. I would wake up choking on acid, gross. So last week I went back to my doctor and he removed .25 ccs. Now I feel like I made a mistake because I'm hungry earlier during the day and later at night than I have been. I'm also able to eat easier, I feel like I'm not restricted enough. Does anyone know if they are able to put in .1 cc? Anyone else have this experience? I definitely don't want to throw up often and have esophageal issues, but I don't want to gain weight either. Help! (I posted this in the basics forum first, sorry if it's a repeat for you.)

    New here

Just found this app. So, I guess I'm getting a little worried. I have lost about 2 pounds in 1 week on the liver shrinking diet. It seems ridiculous. I'm not drinking very many protein drinks, maybe that's the issue?...just mostly water, low sodium broth and no sugar drinks, no carbonated drinks..or decaf coffee with a proteinshake in it.. I'm just so annoyed. Really thought I'd be like 5 pounds down by now. Anyone else having any of these issues? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. Hi! I started w/ a BMI of 34 and had the lap band done in June 2008. My personal weight goal is 120 (i'm only 5'2). So far I'm on average w/ 1lbs a week (lost 25lbs so far). I want to get to 2lbs a week. I workout 5days a week...1 hr a day (3 days cardio, 2 day strength). My typical meals consists of a Protein shake for breakfast(110 cal), a Lean Cusine for lunch (300cal), Snacks (150 cal), dinner (300-500 cal). And still only 1lbs a week if that! I was wondering what your goal weight was/is and how long it took you to reach your goal? What did you do to accomplish your goal?

    help, please!

thanks, ladies- i got a new computer last week and now it works perfectly!
  11. Hello Lapband world, I wish I had known about this site months ago--I have read some really good information here. I am about to start my pre-op liquid diet, and I would like to know if anyone has found a truly tasty protein shake? I've researched on the internet and found something called Unjury I've ordered a couple packs of it but have not been able to bring myself to taste them. I am very anxious about the whole process, and scared, and nervous, but very excited! My other big question is will I have the extra skin hanging around like some of my friends who've had gastric bypass surgery? Or because lapband patients are losing weight at a slower pace, is this not a big problem? Looking forward to reading some good advice. Thanks to all who respond.
  12. I know this might sound silly, but yesterday I went to the store and almost had a breakdown. Lol I'm one week in to my two week pre op diet. I had no idea how hard walking through the store would be! All my old fave Snacks calling me, and everything looked so yummy. I made it through without buying anything off list and it felt like a huge victory. I just wonder if it will get easier. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. If you discover that grits do work for you [not everyone loves them], I have a way that would allow you to get Protein (eggs) into the meal in a much less noticeable way. My band prefers liquids in the morning and I find Protein drinks don't really fill the bill. I make the grits fairly thin, add cheese scrambled eggs, season and then throw the whole deal into my Magic Bullet or blender. Voila! Tasty, savory, yummy! Next week, I'll be getting some unflavored Protein powder that I ordered. Maybe I'll add a scoop to the mix before blending to increase the protein levels. Let us know how grits work for you, Jo Ann
  14. Do this. Take a piece of paper, make two columns, make one column, "What is great about eating however I want." Make the other column, "What is terrible about eating however I want." Then put everything you can think of in each column. In my case, the "pro" side was three things. The "con" side filled the entire page, and I could have kept going. There's a tendency sometimes to say, "I'm not that bad." Like...Oh, I only have to take one pill for hypertension, so I'm not that bad. But how long are you going to be able to say that? There was a time I didn't have to take any pills. I didn't need a CPAP. My joints didn't hurt all the time. I could get up and down off the floor without struggling. I could fit into an airplane seat comfortably, or a booth, or a stadium seat at a sports event. I watched each 50 pound mile marker pass by, convincing myself I wouldn't reach the next one...and I did. How long are you going to say it's not that bad? Until it GETS bad? Because it catches up with you in a hurry, and suddenly you have health issues that may not be reversible. You're starting a new journey to a healthier version of yourself, with this decision. Over the coming months, you're going to get an education into everything that makes these surgeries work, and it includes getting your own mind right about making the necessary changes in lifestyle and habits. The key to all of it is rejecting the old behaviors that have gotten you to where you are. They haven't helped you, they've only hindered you...so is it really so worthwhile to hang onto them?
  15. Sooooo...its day 4 of pre op liquid fantastic diet. .. its not totally bad..but what doesnt help is my family walking up to my face chewing cookies obnoxiously lol...I feel like its going to get soo much easier with time, and now i kind of realize i can do the whole thing ..i was having serious doubts about a week ago. Its just been going so fast..i went to my first dr. meeting to talk about the lap band a little over a month or two ago and im having surgery in 9 freakin days!!!..Still in between excited or nervous...worried that it wont work for me just like every other weight loss program for the past 9 years ....heres hoping something will finally work for me ~xoxo Melanie~

    New Scale ... argh!

So, here I was, thinking I've been rocking things lately ... and to celebrate my success I bought a new digital scale. Awesome, right?! WRONG!!! My old and awesome scale said I was 180 lbs. My new and horrible scale says I am 185. I think the bigger problem here is that five pounds absolutely devastated me. It made me feel so defeated. I'm the same person, and I weigh what I weigh, no matter what a scale says. I feel like my moods are reflecting what a scale says. And how lame is that?!?! Maybe I'll try the 'only weigh once a week' type thing so I don't get overly crazy. But that would be hard for me. Maybe that can be something I work towards. Here's an update on my therapy session about food addiction: She said I shouldn't overeat, but not to worry about it because it's just part of our society. Okay, thank you 6 feet tall, 110 pound therapist. I can't wait to see you again. My plan B? Books from the library. I'll update when I find a good one!

    Time Off

I took 5 weeks off but I have a fast pace active job. Personally I think if money/benefits are tight you could make one week work, but I think anyone should take at least two weeks if possible
  18. Hi there I am from London and i am currently one week bf the gastric bypass surgery. As pre op diet i have been already on shakes only diet for a week and still have 6 more days to go. I can't believe my scale as it dropped 5.5kg this week!!!! But today i found my self craving to chew st and i can't get it out of my head!!!! More about me... am 30 and been overweight my whole life...had few hard years and weight when way way up....to the point when i didn't feel comfortable anymore. Other reason is me and my hubby have been trying for a baby for the last four years and have no "medical" reasons why we are not succeeding. The hope is with my weight gone i will increase my chances. ... Its good to have a place to share the personal experiences. .. Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App

    Another Newbie!

Welcome! I'm on day 6 of my 2 week preop diet. I'm just now getting to the point where I'm not miserable most of the day - I have my moments. And I've learned to appreciate chicken broth.

    Weight Gain over Christmas :(

I'm one year out and I visited family over the holidays and gained 4 pounds in 1 week. Not surprised considering my 4 food groups were sugar, fat, alcohol and more sugar. But I got right back on plan when I returned home. Spent 3 days detoxing by eating only Protein and veggies. Even cut out the fruit and whole grains to try and get all the sugar/carbs out of my system. Then back to my regular balanced diet that worked so well before the holidays. I lost the 4 pounds by the end of the second week. Just get back on plan and throw out the junk. You got this!

    Fill Worked

I can definitely feel a difference when I eat now. I just finished my kiddo's breakfast (about three mini pancakes, a bite of egg and a couple of blueberries) and I am stuffed. I started exercising yesterday. I wanted to go to the gym but didn't want to deal with packing a bag and hunting down my membership card. I just went for a walk instead. My once-broken ankle does not appreciate that. I also got food stuck last night and it was definitely chewed properly first. Now, I know what everyone meant by "slime" ew! In the meantime, I am going to snuggle up with my sick toddler on the sofa. We are watching big snow fall in Texas. That is always a beautiful site because it is so rare.

3 wks post op and can eat anything

I think this is pretty normal or at least it was for me. Just remember this is a tool not a fix all. I was eating way too much in the first three weeks as well even though I was still losing weight I am sure I could have lost even more had I been a little more mindful of my intake. It is not that I ate large portions it was just that I sometimes made poor choices & ate at McDonalds because I was in a hurry. This is a learning lesson to change our eating habits for life and sometimes it is hard. I am doing better now eating more eggs, fish, chicken breast, fruit, salads, etc.. I am hardly ever hungry and when I do get hungry I make a protien shake with 8oz milk and it is very filling it keeps me from over eating, high in protien and low in sugar and calories. I don't deprive myself I just change things around a bit. I used to love having a Venti Mocha every morning from Starbucks now I have a tall bold pick with cream no sweetener. It saves me calories and money and I still feel like I am getting a treat and if I haven't had breakfast I will get the lowfat turkey bacon and eggwhite breakfast sandwhich (don't usually eat all the bread). Again, this is a process and when the pounds start really coming off you get motivated and really want to make an effort. I track everything on www.myfitnesspal.com it is free and their data base pretty much has everything in it. It makes me more mindful when I take a look at what I have been eating. Good Luck and don't get discouraged because many have been where you are at and you are still doing good you have already lost over 15 lbs that is something to be proud of! You will do okay, especially after your first fill.

    Can this really be done?

Hi Grammy, I'm 44, and I've been banded just 17 days. I was dreading the first weeks, because you start out with no fill, and a full liquid diet. My surgeon put me on two weeks of liquid diet, and I thought I would never be able to follow it, but low and behold, I did. The poster below is right. It simply changed how I felt about eating. It is a powerful tool. If you look at my profile, you will see I have been WAY up, and WAY down. Through all the diets, and all the success...I never lost the feeling of food having power over me. That just seems to be gone. I sincerely believe that food is a worse ism than alcohol, or heroin. The reason I believe that is that you can completely avoid contact with either of those, but food is always going to be in your life. The Band: It's not magic...but it's darn close.
