I’m trying to figure out if I will be ok for surgery the week after next my son’s birthday it was last week which I also started my preop diet, which was on the third and my sons birthday was on the fifth. I had two cupcakes, but I did start my preop diet, the right way until his birthday then yesterday I went to a party which I had two slices of pizza but in between those times I was still eating when I was supposed to and also doing my protein shakes like I’m supposed to I have one more week which is coming up of the preop diet and I wanted to know do you guys think I will be OK?

I drank a *lot* of hot bouillon in the weeks after surgery to meet my fluid goals. I seemed to be able to drink that much quicker than anything cold or room temp. That was just me though! You're right to have a think pre-op about mixing up the temperature of your fluids after surgery - it really can make a difference!

Where are you on your journey OP?? I'm almost 11 months post sleeve. If I stick to protein first, veg second then I can eat three kind of half sized meals a day - 2-3 of oz of meat/fish and a few oz of veg - and two or three snacks. I reserve my carbs for bedtime so generally have porridge (oatmeal) made with milk then cos that helps me sleep (I am such a baby). I make a point of having one or two servings of fruit a day and at least three proper portions of veg for my general health - I know lots of people have lots more than that this far out from surgery. If I wanted to eat carbs all day then I probably could and would probably gain weight but I've gone to some trouble and expense to get a tool that I can use to lose weight and then also keep me at a lower weight so I intend to use it!! Stick to the program and you'll be fine, that is the absolutely most important thing. Best of luck. When is your surgery??

I have definitely read of people doing it. I’m fortunate and get paid sick time so took 4 weeks. I considered it a bit of a mental health break to focus on me so I could be on the right track.

10 months post op. I eat anything I want at very small amounts. I didn't eat a huge amount before. After 6 weeks I wasn't on any restrictions. I don't eat junk food or processed foods very much never did. Good luck to you.

Anyone know difference between Mexico Bariatric Center and Obesity Control Center?
SymphonyOfDreams posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I see both of these mentioned, and was wondering people's take on them. I did fill out the web form for Obesity Control Center as well as called and left a message. Over a week ago. No response from them... Thanks! -
I'm still a little sore and have no appetite so getting as much protein they want me to is difficult, ive been drinking as much Gatorade as I can to at least stay hydrated. Was expecting to only stay one night in the hospital but it ended up being 2. I guess my blood pressure was super high (which it's never been before) when I was in recovery, I know they gave me meds for it but I was too out of it to even ask what. The incision thats been the most uncomfortable the whole time was the largest one they took the stomach out through, the smaller ones never really hurt too much. Walking really does help with the gas pains which like everyone else has said the pain meds do nothing for. Can't wait to drive again, they said a week as long as I'm not on the pain meds anymore, they only gave me 6 when I left Thursday so only had a day or 2 worth and didn't need it anymore so Tuesday I'll be able to drive again if I absolutely need to. It's definitely hard watching the family eat and not be able to join them, im not even hungry but still looks and smells good so feel like im missing out.

I don't have any real insight to offer you, but to say if you aren't already, perhaps it would be beneficial for you to see a counsellor or therapist who has had experience with overweight/obese people as well as bariatric/weight loss procedures. A lot of people think that after weight loss surgery they will lose lots of pounds/kilos every week until they goal weight, however, just like weight loss for people who haven't had weight loss surgery, weight loss can be ad hoc, they experience stalls (even in the early stages), there are gains, weight loss slows down, etc. You are likely experiencing a typical weight loss stall,...it can be a week or even more before weight loss kicks back in. Problem is we put so much focus on the goal of scale weight loss that we forget about all the non scale achievements that we experience. Improved fitness, reduced cholesterol, reduced blood pressure, better sleep, better quality time with friends and family, etc etc etc.

So i am brand new to this site. Surgery was 10/3/22. Im... alive. Just checking things out around the site. Everyone will do great! Surgery is the easy part yall. I think the hardest part for me has been the solid 5 weeks of liquid! 2.5 before and by the time i can start puree it will be day 15 post op. By that time i may have forgotten how to chew so theres that i guess! Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm am on liquids and will be transitioning to soft foods next week. I find that I can eat( drink )quit a good amount . I'm consuming 900-1100 cal a day. What are your guidelines for amount size of meals. I know being liquids it flows fast past stomach. I'm having my month post-op appointment on Wednesday.

I'm actually 5½ weeks post op as well! I think the plateau is what is actually making you feel guilty about eating food. I hit a plateau at my 2nd week and it lasted 2 weeks and I was going crazy because I wasn't eating AND I wasn't losing weight. My doctor told me this is all normal and everyone goes through it. Just be patient, stick to your plan and you will start losing again.

I’m 5 1/2 weeks post op and really have no problem with any food I’ve tried. I’m able to get in my low protein requirement and stay well below my calorie requirement. I try to bump that up so I’m hitting the low end of my goal, but I am just not able to. However, doing all of this now that I can actually eat real food again is leaving me feeling extremely guilty, as if I’m just gorging. In my mind, I know I’m not, I’m eating well within my plan, but I feel so gross like I used to before surgery when I’d eat crap. On top of this, I’ve hit my first plateau and have only lost 1lb in 2 weeks, which makes me feel even worse. Anyone else feel this horrible guilt? How did you work past it?

Fiber? Fiber bulks stool up. i use to take meta mucil. You notice the difference from one day to the other when you go number 2 lol. I am 6 months post op and no issues going number 2. the "tough" part of it only lasted a few weeks after surgery. first week being the hardest. -

I’m on nausea meds. I also went in for fluids about a week ago. Nothing helps so I guess that why he feels it’s my gallbladder. Not sure I just want some relief. -
Pre-Op Constipation
SpartanMaker replied to Bella30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's pretty common. So much so that my team actually starts everyone on a bowel regimen a week before the preop diet even starts. They had a flow chart and used little poop emojis. (Which I personally thought was a bit much.) It was also the very first tining in the preop PDF they sent me. The idea was if you don't have a soft BM every 1-2 days, then you take progressively more stools softeners and stimulants. I asked why it was the very first thing in the PDF and they said it's one of the most challenging things people deal with both pre-op, and for the few weeks post-op. It's also one of those things that you're better off staying ahead of, meaning once you realize there's an issue, it's can be difficult to get back to "regular" -
Pre-Op Constipation
liveaboard15 replied to Bella30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
odd. I was on 2 weeks liquid diet but never had any issues going number 2. Now after surgery that was rough. general anesthesia and pain killers basically shut down your ability to go number 2. Takes a bit to come back and when it does OMG the first one will be a doozy. i was prescribed a stool softener to take for weeks after surgery but for me it didnt help. -
I came out of hospital into winter at its worst. I was so cold all the time. Warm drinks were my go to. I drank so slowly my drink was going cold in no time at all. I bought a thermos cup and that was the best thing. Every day drinking gets easier. I was allowed coffee from the get-go and my surgeon didn't do protein shakes just plain skimmed milk, so my drink of choice was a coffee latte. When I was wanting salty, I had Boullion cubes diluted. Other times I had warm sugar free blackcurrant cordial. I still drink cold milk and latte's especially on days when I don't get much protein because there are days when I am not hungry You will work out what you like after your surgery. For lots of us our tastes change, I had a really nasty taste in my mouth for weeks and favourite drinks were put aside, and new ones found. Good luck

Hi everyone, I am scheduled for my DS surgery October 19th. I have been placed on a 3 week liquid diet and today is day 11. Yesterday was the most pain I felt when it comes to constipation. I had been doing fine but omg I called the on-call doctor twice due to the pain and not being able to go. I was super nauseous and just drained from trying. I got permission to drink prune juice but still nothing. The on call surgeon recommended some over the counter suppositories and will be sending in a stronger nausea medication since Zofran doesn’t help. Has anyone else experienced pre-op constipation? What have you taken to help you? I should also add I tried milk of magnesia, MiraLAX, docusate (prescribed) and prune juice and still nothing. HELP! PLEASE!!!

September surgery buddies!!

Those are some amazing ideas! Some I haven't even heard of so I'm looking forward to looking them up. I am such a boring basic cook and just get stuck in a rut, so these ideas will help a ton! Thank you so much! I did get some shrimp to make shrimp cocktail with sugar free cocktail sauce and I bought button mushrooms I can add to everything lol but also going to try adding low fat cheese and broil them to make stuffed mushrooms. Those were my ideas for the week lol. -
I lost very little hair. I barely noticed it, let alone anyone else. a lot of pre-ops and post-ops worry incessantly about hair loss (and loose skin, too). I was one of them. But i think I can speak on behalf of most - if not all - of us who are more than a year out. Hair loss is but a blip on the screen - a minor inconvenience - if we're even affected by it much at all. I'm pretty sure all of us would take the temporary hair loss any day of the week over being morbidly obese again ANY DAY!!

Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.

Maybe chew gum? I've been an ex-smoker, for years and I've got quite the gum habit. I've been told that once I'm 6 weeks out, I can have gum again. -
1 year post-sleeve -- no regrets!
Shrinkingvee replied to james2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow that’s amazing! You look great! I’m one year out post sleeve on the 11 october 22 I’ve lost 94lbs and have only lost a pound a month for the last 3 months or so, I want to lose more though so I’m not accepting this is it. I know I won’t be in the normal range ever but to be out of the obese range will be enough for me. I’d like to lose another 30lbs fingers crossed. I’m grateful for my restriction, I do eat bad things occasionally but just a bite of my husbands not the whole thing that way I’m not restricting myself completely. I walk 5 /6 days a week in the evenings, 5/7 miles. I can eat more than the start now but still only a child’s plate size and I don’t eat all of that if that makes sense. I do get frustrated that o don’t see losses that often now but even if I maintain I am grateful. -
Lol! Wet or liquid farts. Yep some do experience them. My friend’s surgeon suggested disposable underwear for the first week or so until everything settled. She told me it was the best advice. I think the smell, diarrhoea & wet farts are from all the blood, debris & stomach acid from the surgery working there way out of your body. That first hideous & very sudden diarrhoea I had in hospital was very dark & smelly. Wish I had the disposable knickers that day. 😁

Olay friends, I'm out of meal ideas and I need more protein
fourmonthspreop posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey! I'm getting sick of my usual and looking for some new meal idea and snacks. I'm dealing a lot with craving carbohydrates and salt. I'd like to only eat whole foods and complex carbohydrates if I decide to eat them but stick mostly to protein and veggies. I'm a vegetarian but feel free to share with my your meaty meals because I can always modify them and make them veg with tofu and other plant based proteins. I usually eat eggs or a protein shake for breakfast, salads, cheese, crackers and soy products like tofu or Tempeh for dinners and lunch. I ate a lot of chips and barely drank any water this week because of my environment (which I'm about to leave thank god) but in general dont feel that great after eating things like that. I tried having oatmeal for breakfast the other day and found it really gross. I don't like sweet things or fruit but I feel like eating a half serving of fruit will help manage my carbohydrate cravings. And when I say carbs I mean like breads and chips. So i'm curious if you want to just drop your typical meal plan in the replies. I'd love to steal some ideas! I'm eating about 1200-1300 calories a day at the moment and aim for 60 grams of protein. A pretty good day for me looks like a protein shake, a snack, and a meal. Hbu? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
