  1. This is my second day after having surgery definitely more painful my stomach today then it was yesterday. I think the pain is mostly around where the port is, but I'm not quite sure. I've been taking the liquid vicodin but it doesn't seem to be helping too much. Can I put ice packs on my stomach where the pain is? I know they told me not to drink cold liquids so I didn't know if I could use ice on my stomach. I'm hoping the pain goes away by Monday cause thats when I go back to work. At least I work from home and I'm only on the phone with doctors all day so I'm not expecting it to be too bad. Figuring if anything I'll just be tired. I do feel a bit hungry, but the soup broth seems to help. I am looking forward to losing weight getting back to my wedding size. I know I can do it I lost 15 pounds in the week and a half of preop.
  2. Hello! My name is Sondra and I will be having my vertical sleeve surgery in 3 weeks. I am having a revison from the lap band to the sleeve. I had battled with having a revision surgery for about 1 year now. When I finally got the nerve to make the appointment for a consultation I called and canceled. I felt like a failure because I gained the weight back from the first surgery. But after praying and talking it over with my husband I made a second appointment and kept it. What really helped was the support from my husband and a very dear friend who had the surgery as well. We both struggled with our weight all of lives and thought the band was what we needed. While we both continued to struggle with our weight while having the band, my friend was never able to get off her high blood pressure meds. I was just blessed to not have any medical problems that required meds. Long story short after my friend had her surgery and said it was the best thing ever, she is officially 3 months pre op, down 41 lbs and off her high blood pressure meds. I was inspired yet motivated to make the lifestyle change. I received the call on April 1st (Yes April Fools Day) that my surgery was approved and that they could schedule the surgery for April 30th. Take note when they called I was taking a nap so I thought it was a joke. I had a ton of questions like do I have to go thru the classes or psych evaluations. To my surprise no, just get my lab work done, see the dr for post op and then have my surgery. I am still shocked because I hear of so many people waiting for thier approvals. I guess you get what you pray for. I am still new to this sight and learning how to maneuver thru everything but I want to post my pictures and interact with others who have the same issures that I may have but until then..COUNT DOWN TO A NEW ME!

    Really random question

My roommate from the hospital had a small pinhole leak diagnosed at 3 weeks.
  4. Omg.. I cannot tell you how many times my husband told me this!!! He is thinner and was telling me that I need to eat better and exercise. I told him it would be much easier for me once I have lost some initial weight. I have to admit that he is on board more or less now that he has seen my level if commitment these past two weeks on the preop liquid diet. I have lost 12 lbs so far.. Surgery is tomorrow. If you have a good relationship he will eventually get on board just keep explaining that this is NOT easy.. It's life changing. You are doing this for you.. And you need his support! I am sure he is worried that something will happen. Assure him that you want to be healthy and happy. Keep us posted!

    I'm A Brand New Band!

So happy for you -- I am three weeks banded tomorrow and already feel better than I have in years. Having my appetite in check is such a relief.
  7. I am also scheduled for January 14th. Just started my two week pre-op diet. First day I had stomach flu and now I have a cold. Really struggling and feel alone right now. I know I'm making the right decision but at the moment not so sure.
  8. I had my lap and surgery 3 yrs ago and was very successful. I went from a size 22, to a size 14 and was loving it. It wasn't always easy, but I felt good about myself, my progress, and my habits. Then I started traveling with my job. The altitude and elevations didn't work. I started to also notice changes in tightness with my menstrual cycle. These are things that I didn't know before and things that really took me off guard. I had several unfill/refill/unfill/refills. I gained almost all the weight back. Then decided to start over. A fresh start. New outlook, knowing the sensitivity and how things bounced for me, I became more aware of my intake and tried to make better choices with less in the band. That really seemed to be helping. I am back down 40 lbs. Go me!!! Now, here I am, three weeks since my last fill, and feeling right again. Are there any other women out there who have more tightness with their cycles? I am experiencing acid, heartburn, and some vomiting. I am trying to manage and not run in for an unfill, but as I sit here with heartburn pain again, I wonder if I am making the right decision. If any of you have had this surrounding your cycle, can you tell me how you managed and if it passed when your period was over? I felt like, before this, I was at a great spot. Trying not to get discouraged.....

    hair loss

hi i was wondering if anyone else has suffered from this and found good solution, i was banded in june and over the last 3 weeks have started to lose loads of hair, i keep finding it everywhere! its starting to freak me out, so i'm going to make a concious effort to get the protein in and have started taking omega 3,6,9 (and daily multivitamins i've taken since op) i know up until a week ago my protein levels had dropped, but i can't handle protein shakes and now my stomach turns at the bars, any thoughts or ideas would be gratefully recieved:blush:
  10. Hi Liberattor, I was banded at Bajanor on May 24, 2007. I loved the staff and the doctors. The hospital is not easy to look at on the outside but the inside was immaculate and very nice. I was given pain meds and antibiotics to last a week. After that, I used Tylenol with no problems whatsoever. I would go to Bajanor again in a second. Dr. Carlos will answer all your questions. Also, if you ask, they will provide you with a list of former patients, including email and phone numbers. I called many former patients and 9 out of 10 were very happy with the care they were given. I hope this helps you with your research.

    Introduction

Please follow your weeks plans, you do not want to get a leak. Our new stomachs are like babies we have to introduce them to new things SLOWLY.... Take your time give your staple line time to heal.. you'll be just fine
  12. I have 3 bottles of Celebrate multiply vitamins, 3 bottles Celebrate Calcium plus 500, 2 bottles Celebrate Iron + C (all chewable) & liquid packets of Omega 3. Any fruit flavored chewable tablet does not settle well on my stomach. I will give these to someone if they will pay the postage.
  13. Sooo the PCP said I don't have to wait 3 months. Yesterday he tested my sugar and was super normal (120) which is really good. This morning was 152 which is not bad at all. I am going to keep track for a month and if everything is normal I will have surgery by December. Thanks for all your kind words. Will keep you posted.
  14. Susie so they go by the measure the day of the surgery and not the A1c!?? My concern is that if they go by the A1c I will have to wait 3 months for my surgery. The Dr will answer these questions next week but I am just inpatient. I think is normal based on my situation. Thanks for your help.
  15. New to this group, and enjoying reading about everyone's experiences. After a lifelong journey of gaining and losing, I've begun the process for gastric sleeve surgery. I have so many questions, and I'm having lots of trouble getting answers. I am insured through Aetna. I'd love to know what your experiences have been! My current BMI is almost 41. My insurance requires a 3-year weight history, and I don't know if I've had to have a BMI of 40+ during that time frame in order to be approved. For the last three years, my BMI has been between 35 and 40, and I have no comorbidities. Also, I completed the required blood work and it came back perfect; not a single thing was "flagged." I fear that I won't be considered fat enough or unhealthy enough. (as if!!) I'd love to know how the process went for you if you had a similar situation. Thanks in advance!

    Pre-op user

Hi, I'm a new user. I am now about 265 pounds and am scheduled to go in for my first appointment with the Oregon Obesity Institute to get all my necessary pre-ops done before surgery. The surgery is not scheduled yet, but my insurance has approved it. I'm excited to read everyone's results. Some of you loose quickly and some not so quick. I wonder which way I will go. I've been battling with mononucleosis since December and hope this won't hinder an earlier surgery date. They actually whisked me in since the seminar was only last week and I'm already scheduled for all of my pre-ops. So that's it. I'll be anxiously reading some of the posts.:clap2:

    Surgery yesterday

Gets better every day! FYI do not wait for longer than 3-4 days before you take something if you don't have a BM.

    What's yours like?

I did full liquids for two weeks, then went to soft foods, like tuna, eggs, fish etc. I was sooo sick of full liquids a couple days before the two weeks were up. Hang in there, your almost to soft and you'll be way more full because some of the liquids your on slide right through your stomach. My first Soft meal I was stuffed. Good luck

    Psych Appointment

My experience was pretty much the same; I filled out a questionnaire about my eating habits/challenges, and talked with the counselor for a while about my history with weight loss--what I had tried, why I hadn't been successful. It was very open, honest and not judgemental at all. The counselors who do these appointments have (most likely) dealt quite a bit with WLS patients and know how to make sure you understand the risks and what it means to be sleeved. More than likely, these are all things you've thought about well in advance, and you won't be in for any big shocks. ("What do you MEAN, I can't gorge myself on _____________/smoke three packs per day/drink a liter of whisky/participate in the Iron Man Competition a week after surgery?!" ) It'll go great--just be honest with the counselor and with yourself about your history and your expectations of what this surgery can and can't do for you. Good luck!

    New with Questions

I had been about 75 lbs overweight for more than 20 years and could never keep the weight off. In the past 5 years, I gained another 100 lbs and this past Thanksgiving, I realized that my food addiction was never going to get better without help. I wish I had had the surgery 10 years ago. The lack of that almost constant nagging sensation to eat is gone and I couldn't be happier. So I don't think that you should feel silly about getting help to lose the last 50 lbs. I can totally relate to the fear losing "the food". I had a little panic attack a week or so pre-op about being afraid that I wouldn't be able to eat as much after surgery. Then I realized how silly I sounded to myself and told myself, "That's the whole point of the surgery!" I felt nervous right up to the time they knocked me out for surgery. I was laying in the surgery waiting room and was thinking,"What would happen if I just got up and walked out right now?" But I was committed to my path. It's been 21 days post-op and I don't regret anything I've gone through pre or post-surgery. I would think that unless your doctor tells you not to exercise, that it can only be a benefit. I'd think you'd have more lean muscle mass after surgery and being in better shape, you'd have a quicker recovery.

    need your advice

Hi Karen, I would agree with Donali and Alexandra... everyone is different. I am pretty hardy stock and thought I would be one of those that bounced back quickly... but I was shocked at how much pain I had and how much I couldn't even think I wanted to rest so badly. I had surgery on Tuesday and left the hospital Wednesday and went back to work Thursday... but I work from home, so I stayed in bed with a laptop most of the day and napped when I could. I would suggest that if you can set some time aside if you need it, then you won't feel like you have to go back if you don't bounce back as quickly. I still feel like I need a nap every other day or so and it has been 3 weeks for me. Take Care and good luck!

    need your advice

Hi Karen I flew to Mexico on a wednesday, surgery on thursday, flew back home on saturday and was back to work the following monday. Those first few days back at work were not busy. I can remember standing up and having discomfort. I don't think standing for long periods of time for a least a week post surgery is a good idea. Maybe a tall rolling chair would help. It's a time for healing. Congratulations
