I am so excited I am one more step closer to have the Sleeve. I completed my Psych eval yesterday and passed.. Just talked to the coordinator at the doctors office (Dr Nick). She is going to submit everything to the insurance today. Of course she says they have 30 days to approve it. I am going to be calling the insurance company later this week and see what they say. I read on here if you keep bugging them they might move it faster. I sure hope so. She said once the insurance approves it then i can get in for my consultation within a week. Then the rest depends on what kinds of test the doctor orders and how fast i can get that done. I really want would like this done by mid February but that is probably pushing it. I have ordered my Protein samples so that i can get started on finding one that I like. I got a couple of books on life after weight loss surgery. Trying to cover everything and be ready. I hear everyone talk about the shakes for the 2 weeks pre op diet. Is there certain ones each doctor requires? I know the nutritionist would probably be the one to tell me but I just like to be prepared. Is it anything like Herbalife shakes? This is all I can think about. I really need to focus on other things so the time goes faster.. Thanks for listening to my rambling.

I am 9.5 months post op and down 113 lbs. I can't complain i guess! I'm just wondering what people are eating this far out of surgery and about how many calories everyone is consuming in their average day?? I still would like to lose another 40 lbs or so. It's getting way harder to lose now! I am committed to the gym and eat pretty healthy. I just have these stalls. Or 1 week I'll go up 1 or 2 lbs out of nowhere. It drives me crazy! Any advice and recommendations are appreciated!!

American In Germany Banded 1/26/26
kganous replied to kganous's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgeon is very conservative. I haven't received my first fill yet. He usually makes you wait three months. My appoint for the first fill will be on 16 April one week shy of 3 months. Then every 4 to 6 weeks until it's in the right place. -
Hi there. Im from Australia and was banded back in November 2007. I've had moderate success, having lost 25kg (about 55lb) but still have a bit to go. Having browsed a few threads on here about people suffering from left shoulder pain, i'm feeling a little better! (I'm not alone!!!) Recently I have began having SEVERE pain on the top of my left shoulder, which sometimes gets so bad I feel like i'm going to collapse. I can't seem to pin point what causes it. My surgeon sent me for a Barium Swallow Xray (which was horrific), but can't seem to find anything. He thought it may have been my band pushing up on my diaphragm, but it doesn't seem to be. Just a warning to people who are looking in to getting it done - not everyone gets it, and I was only warned that it may happen in the first few weeks. 18 months later and its killing me! Its worth having the surgery for the weight loss, but sometimes I wonder about this pain! Good luck to anyone who is about to have the surgery! :blushing:

Yet another Step Closer. I got approved by UHC and now my appointment with Dr Nick is 02/11/2010. Can't wait. They said they are scheduling about 2 weeks out so this is good. I have found a couple of Protein drinks I like so I am so close. :thumbup1:

I am one week post op and I notice some back pain. Not really bad but I notice it a little. Especially in my shoulders from time to time. Is this still a from gas after a week or something else?

Welcome Mum, I've only lost 20 lbs so far but look what this weight loss has already done for me 1. Reduced my fasting blood sugar from 7.5 to 5.9. 2. Eliminated one of my blood pressure meds. 3. Reduced the amount of acid reflux meds. I haven't even had my first fill yet. It's scheduled for Oct 5 and I can't wait to see what this will do for me. Good Luck with your journey!!!

I'm waiting in the waiting room before the seminars knowing this is the 1st class and then only 3 more and I get to meet the surgeon who will perform the surgery on me and it really hit me now (which I know it would) the excitement I just can't wait to be skinny again and then no more excuse I'm eating clean and working dirty I know I will get where I need to be in time but in a blink of an eye because these classes will fly bye then it will be time for a whole new beginning . Can't control my smile and excitement...

I got the results back from the tests I took Friday and Monday, and everything is good. A little fatty deposit on the liver, which the doc says will go away as I continue to follow my pre-op diet. All I have left now is the endoscopy and the colonoscopy, and two more weighins, the last one in the middle of September, before they will send my paperwork to the insurance company for approval. If you read my last post about all the trouble I had during the testing (I have veins (and arteries, it seems) that are difficult to get blood from ), check out this picture, one week later, of my poor arm. I'm a happy girl today.

Waiting for insurance approval
La_madam replied to tlk92658's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Welcome Your hospital stay should not be more then a day ..2 at the most, some hospitals are doing it as an outpatient service now. There is no set date or ammount of times you will have your band filled. Everyone is so different. I have had mine filled 3 times , I just had my 3rd fill on Monday and I feel that I will get to goal with this fill, Im 25 lbs from goal weight. I had my surgery done in Mexico where they are more agressive with their fills. American Dr's are very conservative with their fills, so you could possibly need more fills then a patient banded in Mexico...fills are not painful at all, just a little prick when the access your port but thats it. Good Luck to you, the band is a wonderful thing and it has changed my life in such a good way..I hope the same for you -
From the album: i guess alittle progress

Just thouht I would go ahead and register here and say hello. I see LOTS of people here who I have gotten to know (passively or actively) on other boards. I am always looking for good ideas and to share the journey with others. I was banded by Dr Johnell in Colorado on 11/4/04. I have lost 30 pounds, but most of that was immediately post surgery. Since then, I have lost about 1 pound a week for the last couple of months. I have had 4 fills, and am at about 1.7 as it was measured, and I am really just getting used to having restriction.

Hi Ed, Welcome! I'm waiting to be banded as well so I can't answer many of your questions but wanted to say hello and welcome you just the same! From what I have read it seems that every doctor is different in what they require pre-op and post-op. My Surgeon does not require the liquid diet before the surgery and then Clear liquids the first day post-op... full liquids the second day post-op and then onto pureed for two weeks.... and so on. Good luck to both you and you wife... you'll find everyone here to be very helpful. Darcy

Hi Ginny, We are banderversary buddies!! How are you doing and feeling? Getting hungry and feeling like you could sit and eat and eat and eat? I imagine eating a peice of pizza or anything that I can bite into and chew and feel in my stomach. LOL Hopefully, the therapy that I am in will help me stop overeating in my head so that I can stop thinking of food all the time. I am doing the "mushies" now. They seem to keep my tummy from rumbling a longer period of time. Cottage cheese, egg beaters, mashed potatoes and gravy. All the soft carbs that I had to avoid the 2 weeks prior to the surgery. When is your post-op appointment? As far as the gas, walk, walk, walk. I think even 10 minutes at a time is good. Take care!! Greta

The gas is different for many people. I'll call them the "3 amigos". these three had thier bands done on the same day as my wife. All three of these guys are pastors at churches in thier hometown in texas. You always knew when one of them would PASS GAS. Out of the blue one would say Praise God ! with a look of relief. and the others would agree.

So today I am 3.5 months out and loving my sleeve more each day. I can't believe how easy this process has been and I feel great!! My recovery was seemingly effortless and the weight loss has not slowed down as of yet. (knock on wood) Getting used to the new Way of eating has been pretty simple too. I've never been a junk foot eater and the last time I at fast food I was probably 11..So the transition from HUGE healthy meals many times a day to tiny meals has been easy with the aid of my sleeve. Even going in to surgery i didnt believe that i would be mentally satisfied with such little portions and I can now confidently say that I don't feel deprived in any way. I no longer have a constant nagging hunger like I did before. The head hunger hasn't really been a problem either...but like I said I didn't every crave bad stuff to begin with so maybe I'm just weird. Haha. I am starting to notice a bit More hair loss then pre-op but nothing I wasn't prepared for. I keep my protien over 70g and take my vitamins and biotin daily so I know that I am doing everything I can to minimize the hair loss. I've accepted that I have to let this run it's course for now. We recently purchased a home and have been moving, painting and sorting like crazy for the last 2 weeks so I have been unable to update my YouTube vlog. The Internet is going to be installed on Tuesday so I will be able to update then. (posting from phone for now.) Thank you to everyone here for being so informative..you have all helped me on my journey thus far more then I can even express. If any pre-ops or newbies have questions for me please feel free to ask away. ~Bonnie

joining the lap-band group
juliegeraci replied to TracyTX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Tracy, I have heard some wonderful things about Dr. Spivak so you are in good hands. They only advise I can give you is how important it is to follow the postop diet to a tee. You are in the healing stages and its important because of the sutures which hold the band in place. You may feel like you aren't very hungry initially. It will be very important for you to sip just a little bit initially. You don't want to gulp any liquid. If you get really hungry you can have anything that fits through a straw on the liquid phase. Creamy soups really helped me out. If you get hungry and don't feel restriction and want to eat everything in site, this can happen. It is because you don't have any solution in your band so you are wide open. When you get a fill or 2 6 weeks post op this should cure some hunger and fullness. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am glad to help. Julie -

Were you banded in Mexico?
want2beme replied to Grandma Pat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you so much. Last night I sat up until 3:00 in the morning searching all of the posts on this site regarding Dr. Lopez. I read that 3 people on this site were highly disatisfied with their outcome. It scared me to death because all I had heard was good things about him. I was sitting here actually ready to cancel my trip. Thank you so much for your post. I will post my experience and results as soon as I can. Congratulations on your new life! I will be there shortly. Dana -
First off congratulations on your future banding. I was banded August 27th and am still on the liquids...here are my thoughts. Being on the liquids can be hard because I swear if I have anything that tastes like vanilla, strawberry or tomato, I am gonna hurl! I had to get creative so I could tolerate the thought of one more Protein shake. UGH! So my friends and I went to the store and got some of the following: cream of anything Soup that I could put in the blender and make more liquid, Jello, maple yogurt (by brown cow), chocolate Protein powder (to add with Peanut Butter and milk), propel, diet snapple, pudding, lentil soup (put in the blender), the usual vanilla yougurt, popsicles, crystal light, tomato soup (I cannot stand it anymore...), squash soup, lentil curry soup...I so can't wait til the puree stage next week so I can add some meat and variety to my diet. I have mixed chocolate protein powder in a light mocha frappacino and I have also used vanilla protein powder in a fruit smoothie. I honestly don't know if you are supposed to do that, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Good luck, Chris:cool2:

Hello from Central PA

that's wonderful karen! i'm a week and two days post op (been back to work for two days already!) and doing really well! unfortunately i'm not sure when i'll get to a support group meeting. when i registered for fall classes i hadn't thought much about the surgery and i have a tuesday night class in ebensburg. so i'm hoping that the teacher might let me go to a few. i really want to do well and i know meeting and talking to others will really help that. feel free to email me if you have any questions or just want to talk. that's been my godsend at work...there at least four others at work and a couple of volunteers who have already had the surgery and they've proved to be an invaluable source of information no matter what. so here's to you!! the journey will be so worth it!
