for me to return to my mexican doctor for a fill (than get it here in STL Missouri area) It costs me about $150 price line ticket (I did find one in sept through aa for $208), $75 hotel per night, $100 floro and $110 for transportation (I had the driver pick me up - but I brought my baby and she has a car seat- and it made DH feel safer than Taxi's & bus). They want $400 for fill + the hospitals cost for flouro- $ 100 - $300 depending on amount of time on table I also scheduled it with our band friend and my MIL to share cost of transportation and hotel. We had another fun weekend in TJ. I did bring my own Protein shakes for after and loved the Soup at the hotel Total here: $500 to $800 and Dr. Here is conservative starts everyone at 1 cc and goes up .1 cc a fill So I expected that it would take a whole lot of fills on me- this scared me on spending up to $800 every month like I see some people going back till they hit their sweet spot. Total in MX $493 (using Max numbers & there transportation) There approach is to try to get that sweet spot quicker I got 2.6 cc to start out at first fill. I have been loosing 2-2.5 lbs a week since the 18th and today broke into the 230's. I did go and see the Dr. here in MO- for two reasons- One in case ther is an emergency, and two- in case I needed him later and he quit taking Mx patients, I was already an established patient. But it was just for a check up. He is trying to start a same day surgery clinic here so out of pocket costs will be less for us self payers, but it will take a whole lot of time. He was a wonderful guy and has a terriffic office staff. I just feel more comfortable with the followup of the guys who did the surgery.

I'm 5 weeks in and haven't had a filling yet. I've gradually been able to eat a little more and hungry more often. Please tell me the filling will correct this!!

So am 6.5 weeks out and down 48 lbs which am so thankful for. Am starting to seeing changes in my body and mind alot. But I have a general question and I know everyone is different so just looking for some general ideas here. So far my food intake has been mostly protien shacks and bars. I try different food at dinner time mostly, but I get this feeling of it being in my throat after a few small I mean small bites. I had about four foaming incident where I was eating to fast. I really try to listen to my body to stop that from happening, last night I thought I caught it but I was wrong. Ooops.... So, here the question does that feeling every go away, I just want to eat something without feeling that feeling in my throat.. I know am new still and be body is changing daily and I also know that in time I will be able to eat things without that feeling, just seem at this point it will never come. thanks for any advice you may have.... 5 Day Pouch Test Now?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to Kmartinez15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never done the pouch test but know that some people on here have and could give you more insight. My suggestion? Go back to basics. Have you talked to your NUT about your challenges and your goals? Are you tracking your food, Are you drinking at least 64 oz of Fluid a day? Are you not drinking with your meals? Are you avoiding carbonation? What is your Protein target? Are you tracking that target every day? Are you avoiding added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), starches, and fried foods? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as instructed? Are you exercising? Whether or not you do the 5 day pouch test, it seems to me that it isn't too late to get back on track. It may be difficult and more of a mental than physical challenge, but you can do it. I also highly recommend that you talk with a therapist and attend support group meetings. You may also want to consider attending sone OA meetings (OA.org). Keep us posted on how you are doing. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall -
My hairs falling out :'(
boatdays replied to newme31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three months out and hair is falling out like crazy! Scares me, but I do have think hair to start. Any idea when it stops? -
I just started using frutis fall fight shampoo and conditioner. So far less strands in my comb. I sure hope this works. It has biotin in it and the bariatric vitamins have 150 per cent of biotin everyday. The vitamins were not working but this shampoo seems to be. Will let everyone know after a few weeks.

Exteremley Nervous I Have Four Weeks Befre Surgery
cholosladii09 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive done my research, Ive spoken to my drs and as of now the pros out weigh the cons but i cant help but feel some reservations about the surgery... is it odd that im nervous or is it norma -
what is it you need help with? I was banded on the 13th of Sept and for about the first 2 1/2 weeks I was hungry most all of the time. I am eating soft foods now and am not so hungry all the time like I used to be, it's getting easier..head hunger is still there though but it's getting better too. hang in there, stick to your fluids it won't last forever you'll be able to move on to the next stage soon and then you'll get sick of that but eventually you will get back to regular food. You might try popcicles..they seem to satisfy me a little here and there. I hope I helped...be careful with the bread.

I have only been banded for two weeks and have notice the scale isn't moving any more. Actually it went up a pound or two. When I spoke to the surgeon he said Im probably retaining water. When I looked at some of the stuff I was having salt was the issues.

I will be 3 months out on July 4th. So far I have lost 45 pounds but it takes a lot to lose...in my opinion. I must admit that I don't get in all my water most days. I am so forgetful when it comes to my vitamins but I am setting an alarm to start taking them better. I am stalking like 2 weeks at a time. Will I ever get back to losing rapidly? I want like 15-20 pounds a month...maybe I am not being realistic?

Weightloss...
James Marusek replied to meaghan_rny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery, individuals loose weight at different rates. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. So adhere to the program guidelines. Since you are at 3 months, there is one thing you might try if you haven't already. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the amount of protein you obtain from food combined with the amount of protein from protein supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Right after gastric bypass surgery, the volume of food you consume is minuscule (2 ounces) per meal. But as you get further along, the meal volume increases. Therefore you have a very important option available to you. As a result, you can begin to reduce your reliance on protein shakes. I went from 3 a day, down to 2, down to 1 and eventually none when I reached 1 cup per meal at a year and a half post-op. This is important because protein shakes contain calories. If you can reduce your caloric intake, then you can end a stall. At least that was the approach that I used and it worked for me. -
The feelings you're having are pretty normal at the stage you're at. I think the depression (to an extent), the fatigue, the "remorse" are nothing more than your body reacting to the fact that it's not getting what it's used to in terms of foods (good or bad) at this very moment. I noticed a very large change in attitude at about the end of the week 2 mark and it's gotten better and better every week since. Embrace the positives. Look at what you've accomplished so far. Grasp onto that, try new things. Some of the foods you thought you didn't like before you may now, and vice versa. It's amazing how our tastes change after the surgery. I couldn't eat anything overly sweet, and things that didn't taste too sweet or too salty to me before surgery were amplified by what seemed to be 100% after surgery. Best thing for me, honestly. If you told me even a week before surgery that there would be days I would actually be craving a salad, or a few slices of a tomato, I would have probably told you that you were crazy. I've always liked those things, but never craved them. Now, the healthier I eat, the more I crave healthier foods. You can succeed and looking at your progress, I'd say you already are. Stick with it...it really does get better!!! Best of luck!

I was sleeved the same day. How are you doing? Im having to do just Clear liquids for 2 weeks. Im not hungry just trying to get all my fluids in before I havet to go back to wk. Days after it was hard sipping on 2oz of Water but has gotten better. It seems like i was feeling everything go down to my stomach. Its not really appending that much anymore. Did you ever feel that. LOL! Love that, too! Hysterical! I'm a little over 2 weeks post-op and my stomach, as little as it is, is louder than ever! I wake up to it growling like I'm starving to death, which I'm not! I quickly take my antacid pill and start sucking down a Premier shake-very impatient tummy!! Is this forever or just while on such low calories (still on full liquids until Nov. 1)? I hope once I'm eating real food again instead of shakes, broth/soup and jello/pudding/yogurt, my hungry-hungry (baby!) hippo tummy will simmer down!!

Here goes my dinner
chanelle102 replied to chanelle102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It was so good stayed down n I was able to eat it all!! It weighed out at 2 ounces. I feel full the only issue I had was not being able to drink while eating!!! But I'm sure I'll get use to that also!! I drank right at the 30 min mark lol!! It's so weird how different doctors do so many different things for the same surgery!!! Some people just start soft at 6 weeks I see on here -
Finally got things on the schedule!
CincyUdy replied to CincyUdy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome! How are you feeling about it? Do you have to do a 2 week pre op diet? Where are you having your surgery? Congrats to you too Alli! Erin -
So my insurance info was sent in on Wednesday and I just got a letter saying they approved me for October 3rd ???? yay for getting approved! But now I have questions.... I had no idea they had me planned for October 3rd! I can probably make it work but I know the Dr office wants me in for 4 weekly pre-op visits before surgery and there aren't even 4 weeks until October 3rd! Hmmmm.... At least I can make the date work in my calendar, which was a pleasant shock. I should get some food for my post-surgery needs. I read you can't do heavy lifting for several days after so I know I need to stock up on dog food... But what else did you guys do to prepare for after surgery? Bowel movements
judysbabies replied to brittersmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am five days out and having the opposite problem. It seems that everything that goes in causes cramping and diarrhea. Yuck. I am working on it. Good luck. We will get through these first weeks and never look back. -
I am 8 months out and still only have a bowel movement about once per week. I usually have to use miralax a couple of days and then I go. I get all my drink in and am trying to up the veggies and fruit and eat as much fiber things as possible but I can't seem to go more than once a week. No discomfort, though and so my doctor said not to worry but try the miralax and that definitely helps.

Yuck, had my first slim experience today
hopetolose replied to hopetolose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, I learned my lesson. Ive trying to be so careful since getting filled last week. But that was just plain stupid. -
I am on two week all liquids and this is day 4. Having some g2 helps me if I feel weak. I have also cut back on activities. Keep drinking the fluids that helps me some as well.

Weight Gain Panic
LumpySpacePrincess replied to JillC878's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me unless the gain is over 3 pounds, its not actually a gain at all because there are so many more factors involved as to what could make your scale show a higher weight. If you are worried about stalling, lower your calories by 100 per day for a week and see what happens. It really doesn't take much of a drop to kick your body into gear again. I also find that calorie trackers and nutrition labels are fairly inaccurate, so I set a calorie goal and then try to stay about 50-100 below that goal in my calorie tracker, and I find that is a much more accurate daily count for me. Hope this helps!
