:yikes: THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ON THIS WEBSITE. I AM SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY ON JAN. 27, 2009 IAM SO EXCITED ABOUT IT. I CAN NOT WAIT. THE ONLY THING THAT IS DISCOURAGING IS THE 2 WEEK LIQUID PROTEIN DIET. I TAKE IT DAY BY DAY.

I'm 7 weeks post op and had my first fill today. I had 3.5 cc put in at surgery and 1cc added today. Ever since the fill I've had a headache, which liquid tylenol hasn't helped. Could this be fill related or is it just a coincidence (maybe allergies)? Thanks!

I'm with everyone else! You totally need to do it before. That way you've done the hardest of the healing portion. Cause when the baby comes its going to be a while before you and your wife will feel like you can take a couple weeks for you to be out of service. If you know what I mean.... I definitely say do it start your whole family off on the right foot A second thought is also, you being on a restricted diet as well might help influence her to stick to her healthy eating habits. Pregnancy, nursing and baby hormones I think can derail you if your not careful. It might be helpful to her.

I was in the same boat, I had my surgery 2 days before you, and for the first two weeks, nothing changed! I was very disapointed with myself, and felt as if I was doing something wrong even though I was on a liquid diet, and starving!! As soon as I moved on to the mushie stage (a little over a week ago), the weight just started coming off. I finally had a few BM's, which definitely helped, but now I'm at another plateau where I feel I can eat a lot, and I'm not losing. First fill is scheduled for 1/10 and I can't wait. Yippee!!

Hi I was just banded Tuesday of this week. I feel really good so far. But I have a found that the Boost protein drinks are really good. They have 15 grams od protein and only 8 oz in the drink. Plus they have serveral vitamins in it. I think they are very tasty. Hope this helps.

Hi. I was banded by dr Mccloskey on October 14th. U c her for a second before surgery then I saw her once in the hospital. The RNs and aides are great. The UGI post op sucks. I went home 2 days later(couldn't pee). Pre op I was only clear liquids til midnight then nothing after midnight. Saw dr m at my follow up. She is very nice and answered all questions. Saw PA this week. And she said a few things that I didnt like but gonna c how she goes. Told me she doesn't think I will b successful. I thought WTF I will show u! I have lost 36 pounds since surgery. 6 weeks. -
Surgery Scheduled For 12/26 In Pittsburgh....anyone Else Scheduled In December?
The Icy One replied to KSteele's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre op diet is h*ll, no matter what version you have to do. I had a two shake, one lean and green plan for three weeks. Not awful but tedious as all get out. The first few days were the hardest, then I got into a routine and it got easier. When I wanted to do something srupid, I reminded myself what I was working towards and that the last thing I wanted was to wake up after surgery with no band because my liver was too big because I didn't stay the course. That kept me on track. Hang in there! It's only two weeks. You can do it! -

Total failure, but hoping to start again

During my initial consultation, I wanted a sleeve. My family was very anti-sleeve because it is permanent. My doctor actually agreed, saying my health was fine and that I didn't need to lose so much weight that I would need a permanent surgery like the sleeve. When I saw my doctor last, I asked about revising to the sleeve as I have concerns about the band longterm. She said again that if I was having no problems, I did not need to revise. Maybe the weight gain since then would change her mind? In the band's defense, despite not being great for actual weight loss, I did not experience many of the horrible complications I have read about online. My gallbladder actually had nothing to do with the band, but with years of extreme high protein/low carb dieting and quick weight loss. Still, I want to lose weight! Maybe I will see what she says. I don't really have time right now for a revision, but I want to be healthy and if that is what it takes... It is hard because she is so glamorous and I can really tell when she is disappointed. Well, I worked up the courage to reschedule the appointment I cancelled this week. I have one in a few weeks. Maybe by then I will have lost a couple pounds from restricting calories? Yeah, that feels right to me! I am shooting for that as I find it difficult to meet Protein requirements (and be a pleasant, functioning human person) at 600-800. If I find that I'm not losing weight, I can restrict down. -
Husband getting new job thus changing insurance companies
brownbeauty posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so mad right now - I don't know how to feel!!! We have been struggling alot lately with our budget and extra money - money is really tight. My husband started looking for a new job with "higher commission potential" smack dead in the middle of me going through the pre-op clearences - I had my second support group last night and my physch evaluation is scheduled for next Tuesday. This is the last thing I need to do before everything is submitted to insurance. He is going in for a second round of interviews this week and has no idea of what the insurance is or when benefits are effective for new hires! The last time we spoke about this, and I mentioned the surgery – and how him changing jobs would directly effect me not being able to get the surgery on time or not being able to get the surgery period! He just says, I can still get it but with the new insurance. Well I don't know what the new carrier will be!!!! I already talked to my current insurance company (United Healthcare, Choice Plus) and they cover the surgery 100%, since my <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:stockticker>BMI</st1:stockticker> is over 40. I guess I am just ranting but I get so angry knowing that this may push everything back or call everything off all together – because of the new job! Is it selfish of me to think like this? Any ideas of how I can approach him about this without causing a HUGE blow-up, I do not have the patience! I am this *!* close to forbidding him to take the new job until after my surgery – OR ELSE! :angry -
Well I was banded Dec 16th and my weight loss was gong fine until my 2nd fill I have lost nothing! Well okay 2lbs in 3 weeks. But it seems like nohing! I had lost 36lbs up to that point! My Physician Assistant warned me this would happen and that weight gain could happen to but dang is it hard to deal with! I get so aggravated because it has slowed and non I am fighting the good old demons to stay strong and not slip into old habits! And not getting full really sucks!!! Glad to see others in the same boat! I hope by may we are all out of this.....

Hello: I'm reaching out to see if anyone has had a similiar experience. So far, I'm not finding a lot of information. I was banded April 20, 2010. The operation seemed typical and I immediately started the post-op regimen--Clear liquids, non-clear liquids, etc. The recovery also seemed typical. I had some gas (burping) and pain in my shoulder, but nothing too out of the ordinary. By week 4 post-op I was back to exercising and had lost about 15 pounds. I followed the surgeon's instructions to a T. In late May I developed an infection under my port and I had to have a second surgery to have the port removed on June 2. The plan was to let the area heal then go back in and replace the port in a new spot. A week ago my surgeon ordered an endoscopy for me to determine if there was band erosion. There was. Now I have to have a THIRD surgery this week to have the band removed as well. We hope to be able to do it laproscopically, but he might have to make a major incision. At this point, I have lost about 25 pounds. I have not bothered to ask if we can try the procedure again. There's no way I'm risking going through that again. The time off work, the pain of recovery from multiple surgeries--it's just not worth it for me. I'm very sad as I had such high hopes of the lapband helping me solve my weight problems once and for all. My question to the group is: Has anyone experienced something similiar so soon after the initial surgery? Just 6 weeks post-op. I've been doing a lot of research and it seems more common for band erosion after the band has been in for a few years. I'm just trying to find someone else who is in my situation. Thanks.

Anyone else have this experience?
mercilessmarcy replied to ajoneen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had the same problem. I had blood drawn for allergy testing just before surgery. It took two weeks to get the results. Allergic to cow's milk and soy! I use Almond milk now. No more gas or bloating! -
How long before first fill?
justmel1957 replied to colorado.girl80's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill at 4 weeks too. -
I was just wondering how long everyone waited before their first fill. It seems like for most people it is 6 weeks. I was wondering if anyone had theirs after 4 weeks. I am getting on on 2/23 and had my surgery 1/23. Does that seem like to soon?
-
I found that most of the people who were banded at the same time I was generally had their first fill after 4 weeks.

Little Froggy, You should be fine to go back to work on the 3rd. I had my band on the 29th of July and a week later I had my energy back. For exercise you can walk. Walk as much as you can. Go to the gym and do the tread mill at no incline for as long as you can. (being on the tread mill you will know exactly how many calories you burn). According to my doctor: You cant swim for 3 weeks after the surgery. You cant lift anything over 10 pounds for six weeks. As to what to take to the hospital: I took my flip flops, zip up hoodie sweatshirt, a big night shirt and pants -
I want to thank you all for your advice and support. My surgeon's office called this afternoon (he apparently forgot) and saw me tonight. Instead of my band being at the usual 2 and 8 its at 1 and 7 so we aren't far off. He's going to double check my new gi with the initial post op one. He also removed some of the fill and said within 2 wks I should be ok. Thanks again, I really appreciate all the support. This last week was the most nerve wracking ever.

Thank you all. I work at the same hospital that my PCP works at so I emailed her personally on Friday demanding answers. I think up to that point her nurse was interceding my messages. I also got the Upper GI disc just in case. I tried calling the bariatric team where I work and none of them would take me on because "they don't fix other surgeon's messes." A friend of mine who was bypassed let me vent last week and then sent me a list of about 5 surgeons in my area who may be able to help. I am going to start calling their offices tomorrow to see if other people can take me on. My other problem though at this point I'm disregarding is because I work for a hospital my insurance is geared for that hospital so if I go to any other hospital in my area they will only pay a small portion of what I need. I'm hoping tomorrow I can get some answers tomorrow.

Surgery Scheduled For 12/26 In Pittsburgh....anyone Else Scheduled In December?
Jess1020 replied to KSteele's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery date is Dec. 19th. I am on day 2 of the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and it is a struggle. I am not a fan of the shakes (tried 5 flavors so far). It's more of a consistency thing with me. I'm going to keep messing with how I make them and hope for the best. Also, plan on making some homemade broths too. I would kill for a chicken breast right now. I know I could have one and be fine, but since my surgeon requires a liquid only diet, I am going to stick to the rules. It's tough, especially knowing that so many other people do not have the same requirement and do fine. It's more of a mental thing though. If I "cheat" on this rule, then I'm giving myself permission to "cheat" on other things too. And this needs to be different. -

Let me know how that goes. I was supposed to have a fill last week and she wants to wait another week due to thanksgiving. -
I waas not told anything. I got on the treadmill for walking two weeks post op.

Yup, I am in my fourth week and get my first fill a week from today. I am very ready. I am using a certain size of rubbermaid type container to eat out of to help me recognize when it is time to quit eating. Usually within 10 minutes of stopping eating, the desire to eat more goes away. I never feel "full" but am getting to where I recognize real hunger. I look forward to the fill hopefully making this easier. I have 3 cc now, left in at surgery (10 cc band).
