    Missed by this much

To be honest I only walk 1 to 2 times a week. I have had restriction since surgery. I keep my calories below 900 during the week and on the weekends I eat what ever I want, but I still keep my food to 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups. I am getting hungry between meals now and Dr. Snow said I need another fill. I have one scheduled for the 22nd of this month. I expect I will need to up my activity level one of these days. Remember everyone is different when it comes to the band.

    Banded AND hernia repair ??

I had a hernia repair with mine, too......lifting restrictions were lengthened a little.....obviously, I don't know if it caused more pain or not.....but I'm okay now, two weeks out.
  5. I know how you feel. I didn't lose anything for 6 weeks straight. It was HELL! Couple of questions: Are you exercising? If so, how much? Maybe you should increase the time or change the type? What are you eating and how often? I eat 5-6 small meals at regular intervals of 3-4 hours. This is the key to my weight loss. Go online and find out what your BMR or RMR is so you know how many calories your body burns without effort. Then eat around this amount. For instance, my body burns 1600 calories everyday no matter what. I try to eat around 1500 calories a day and then I exercise for an hour or two 6-7 times a week. I strive to burn 1000 calories a day through exercise. So far this has really helped me. I hope some of these tips will help get you started again. Good Luck!
  6. Big As Life

    Let's get this ball rolling!

I had to be on liquid two weeks before surgery and two weeks after the surgery....it really is not that bad...I drank as much liquid as I could, two weeks before the surgery ....after the surgery, you will not want much...I drank 4 ounces at a time, 4 to 6 times a day...I did fine...but being nervous about it, is normal.... Good luck to you...I hope all goes well....please keep us posted...
  7. I dont know what's wrong with me... I had a band originally in 2005 and (long story) it ended up having a defect, diagnosed a few months ago. I had a new band put in a few weeks ago and for some reason, i cant seem to follow my dr's post op instructions this time around. I mean, im following them but, im way ahead of them as far as time frame with the foods. I guess its because i know my body, i know how the band works, i know what to expect etc... i got off liquids 5 days sooner than the instructions said to and i moved to the "soft food stage" which is where i still am. i tried about a tablespoon of ground beef today very slowly and it was fine. I know my body and i know the band which is why ive been experimenting this time around. I guess im looking for some input. Have any of you been where I am, maybe not banded twice but, moved ahead with the food faster than you were supposed to? is it just a guideline? ive had no problems, no PB, nothing... can i damage myself by doing this? im also a huge worrier..... any input would be appreciated. Vikki
  8. Not only is the a very important post for people to read, but also people need to research the band too!!! Too many people go into this with their eyes shut, evident by the amount of posts that say something along the lines of, " I didn't know I was going to have five scars", or " I didn't know I couldn't eat solid food for weeks after surgery". People really need to study and read as much as possible. I knew so much about this surgery that I was telling the staff things that they didn't know!!!! Thank you for posting this!!!! Everyone, check out every single thing!!!

    Time Off Work

My doctor said 3 or 4 days post op I could return to work. I am the boss so I have scheduled 5 working days. My surgery is scheduled for Friday, March 16th and I plan to return on the 26th. I had a lap hysterectomy in August and returned to work after 2 weeks. I figure this can't be nearly as bad so I should be fine.

    Time Off Work

Every person is unique in terms of what they need. I was still having significant pain at 4 days and only just starting to be able to get up out of a chair by myself. However, I am 60 years old and that could have affected things. I had plenty of leave accumulated so I took 3 weeks and it was great for me. Even though I felt better early in that 3rd week, I had the time to adjust to a mushy diet and I was well on my way when I returned to work.

    Time Off Work

    Time Off Work

Was done on a Thursday so my 5 days included a weekend. I only actually missed Thursday and Friday. My job involves a lot of walking and it was hard to get energy at that point, but I made it through. Rough first few weeks with energy level. Good Luck!

    Maybe..........

Okay so this is getting really annoying. I have posted 3 blogs that have disappeared. =( Anyway, I have had a rough last couple of weeks. My grandmother is really ill and was in the hospital for a few days. Her liver is screwin up big time. I have gotten her into a different doctor because the one she was seeing is a quack and shouldn’t have a license. I am the only one close that can take care of her. And I’m pretty sure she is ready to give up. But I don’t want her to yet. She has to see my babies, if that ever happens, and see me finish RN school. DH was also sick. He has chemical pneumonitis and Reactive Airway Disease. He couldn’t breathe and went to the ER. They wanted to admit him but he refused and took an AMA. So they gave him breathing treatments, that we couldn’t afford, and steroids. So other than that drama. I have lost a couple more pounds. I talked to my doc, who was on my floor seeing another patient, and he said that 1 pound a week is plenty of weight loss. So that made me think about how much weight I have been losing. I started counting my calories on a website and I am sooooo not taking in enough calories. We are supposed to take in like 1200-1800 right? I am not even sure but its hard to reach that with how little I am able to eat. I know that my diet says that I am supposed to eat 3 times a day and nothing in between meals but that’s just not possible. I am eating very small snacks every couple of hours. That has helped me up my calorie intake quite a bit. I am down 2 more pounds which I am very happy with. In a couple more weeks I can go in for a fill if I need one. I think I am doing pretty well without one, lol. But anyway I have to go to class now. Its not for another hour and a half but the roads are icy and people don’t know how to drive and parking is DREADFUL at my school.

    Yesh Can Yisraelim?

I was so excited to see that I understood this- I guess studying in Israel does help. im studying abroad finishing my college degree and going back to the US to be banded- I looked into the surgeons here but they have much less experience... I tried to google people in Israel undergoing lap band and how surprising to find it on the very forum I am already a part of... My big question is- what did all of you guys drink for the 2 weeks before? Halachti LTel Aviv Vmatzati Rock Hashetiyot LMeatzvei Guf... I want something good and protein filled... Also which dr is considered best here in case of emergency?

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Just speaking from my own experience which has been very good. The Good... It's working and I'm finally losing weight! I am also so lucky in that I have never experienced ANY nausea or vomiting through this process like many others do. The Bad... Unlike others, my hunger NEVER went away after the surgery and I felt ready for some fried chicken while I was sitting in the recovery room, my stomach was literally growling! The Ugly... While I did feel restriction in the amount I could eat initially, by week 3 I could eat like normal again and didn't lose anything else until I got my first fill at week 7! So not too bad for me. :smile2:

    Hello - I'm new.

When I needed my gall bladder out I was offered the band as it was supposed to be a simple procedure at the same time. I was funded by the NHS. Unfortunately my gall bladder was infected and the band had to be fitted in a 2nd op one month later. From me having the op a different company now do it and somehow I have been neglected during the changeover. I should have had my 1st fill in October and it was December after a lot of phoning from me they tried to do the fill and only this week I have been told the port is back to front.

should i go to the ER??????

Yes, that is indicative of being too filled. I trust you have had a fill since your surgery. This can happen down the road after a fill. The fill seems just fine and then a couple of weeks or a month later all of a sudden nothing goes down. Coughin at night and acid reflux is also a good sign of that. Sounds like you need a slight unfill. Call your doctor and get in tomorrow.

    Need Advice, Please help

OK, the pre-op appointments make sense. The reason I just had a phone consult with my doctor is because I am a self-pay (not using insurance) so there really is no bloodwork or psych/nutritionist consults required. The phone consult with the doctor was simply to describe the process and give me a few pointers for before/after surgery. But, I definitely don't think you need 2 weeks to recuperate after surgery. As I said before, I'm flying home literally 48hrs after my surgery. I've got First Class seats, but that's it. Everything I've read says you will be up and walking around just a few hours after surgery, so personally I don't think you should stay in Long Island that long once you've got the band. Head on home and see your fiance and your mama! :tt1:

    Need Advice, Please help

Hey Sal! That sounds like a tough one. I guess you need to decide what is more important. You having the surgery asap and not having your mom or fiancee there or waiting till the summer and being able to have someone with you. Would it be possible for your mom and fiancee to maybe take less time off? If you have the surgery in Nov can one of them spend a week or week and a half with you and then go home and the other one comes in their place? I dunno. How close are you with your fiancee's family? Close enough that maybe they can spend some time helping you out so your mom and fiancee can take even less time off of work? Where in NY are you having surgery and who is your surgeon, BTW? I'm in NY too. Long Island.
  20. I had my first fill 4,5months after surgery. They wanted everything to heal and at the begining I dont think its necessary cause at least for two three months I didnt need the fill I had quite good restriction. Yesterday I got my first fill and it was only 1cc into my 10cc band.
  21. I agree with both of the above. First...i would definitly talk to someone about this. It's alot harder going it alone. I have cut out carbs, cold turkey! It was the only way I could break my habit. It has worked amazingly well. Now, one day a week I allow them, since my cravings are gone. I have noticed 6 days a week I am not hardly hungry anymore but, the 1 day I wake up eating carbs in the morning I end up hungry all day. Cut the carbs but don't deprive yourself, there are plenty of delicious foods & drinks out there. Flavored waters are sweet and best of all guilt-free.
  22. Is my Nutritionist keeping me fat - Part 2 permalink Hi, I posted on this before and guess I am looking for some encouragement. For those of you who did not see my original post. I was banded on May 1, 2009 at 300/lbs. Join a jym with a trainer and nutritionist in July of that year and have been working out ever since. I dropped 30/lbs quickly and the last 20 have been a struggle. I have been hovering around the 250 - 258 mark for almost a year. The Nutritionist at the gym had me eating around 1700 - 1800 calories. With this weight was fairly stable around the 258 mark. Went to the Bariatric Nutritionist who says I was eating far too much. And after I loose the weight I can work on increasing calories, she cut me back to around 1300, and under 100 carbs a day. The GYM Nutritionist says 1500 is ok and maybe a few more carbs. So Here I am. So I have been sticking to around 1300 calories, not much fun. And wondering if the rest of this weight will ever come off. Still working out 3 to 5 times a week. Need to go at least 5 times but all this working out has hurt my knees so I have been going to PT twice a week. I have been keeping carbs around 100 a day. Went a bit crazy on a month long vacation and when I returned in early Aug was up to 258 again. Today down to 247 in like 8 weeks. but it is slow. I do not need a fill as I cannot eat in the Morning and having some PB Issues 3 or 4 times a week. The Bariatric Nutritionist said not to worry yet about this and to get this final 22/lbs off. Any suggestions. I was thinking to move up to around 1500 calories and increase my work outs a bit. Also a friend is going to Metabolic Research center. which is also low carb and supplements for Metabolism and doing quite well. Just want to get this last 20 lbs off!!

    Last pre-opp visit tomorrow

As I meditate on the days events, my mind can't help but shift to tomorrow because it is my last pre-opp appointment before my surgery scheduled for January 3, 2011. I'm super excited. I have come from behind the vail and want to use my journey to help others. I have been exercising and even started some lighter foods in hopes that my system will not go into food shock when I have to do the liquids and soft foods for the first three or four weeks. I know that surgery is not the only answet, but rather it is part and parcel of a much larger picture, one that has me focusing on my eating, exercise, emotional, and psychological health. I wil post how the doctor's visit goes tomorrow. I'm already claiming the victory. Happily Theresa

May 17Th Is The Big Day

Okay my fellow pre and post Sleevers! I have a date. May 17, 2012 I get reborned into this world. Right now my head is spinning and unfortunately I have so much stress in my life right now I can't actually sit down and wrap my arms totally around what is about to happen. I do know that I have been pushing along. Getting my tests performed and visiting doctors. I had my transnasal endoscopy yesterday. Whew! I didn't have any anesthesia and it wasn't like anything I have ever experienced before in my life. The tube they inserted through my nose and down my throat was no fun. I'm trying to remove the memory from my mind. LOL I survived it so it's behind me now. I still need to get my antibiotic to take at least 10 days before the surgery becasue of bacteria in my stomach. It isn't covered by my insurace so the drug is $56.00 dollars. I can't get it until next week. (Sigh!) I want to start getting my supplies for the first couple of weeks but of course financially I can't do that yet. So it's like I'm happy and sad at the same time. *I keep praying and telling myself, "And This Too Shall Pass"! I don't have to do a Pre-Op diet so I guess I'm lucky. However I have been changing my habits to prepare for my journey. I have to do clear liquids the day before and then NPO after midnight. I did lose 5lbs. At my consultation I was 448.3. Yesterday I was 445.3. This is just from me changing how I eat and drink. I do not eat and drink at the same time. I chew my food until it is mush in my mouth I eat my protein first and then veggies I stop eating when I fill satisfied. (Not full just satisfied.) No grazing. Sip, Sip, Sip wait. I take little sips instead of big gulps. I'm trying hard not to use straws. I haven't had any alcoholic beverages. (I might this weekend.) I will keep you folks posted. Hugs

Why did I do all of this??

I am soooooooo discouraged! My last fill they couldn't access my port, the doc said that it is probably just some scarring and will be better next time. Well, last Friday was the next time and he couldn't access it AGAIN! He has NEVER seen this happen. So, I cried, ate horribly all weekend, but then found a happier place and awaited the call to see when I would get the fill done under fluoro. I finally got the call that it will be next Friday. Then, about 30 minutes later the lady calls back stating that the doctor needs to update his info at the surgery center, which might take a few weeks. OR, I can pay $1000 or more to get it done at the surgery. To save $700, I am waiting the few weeks. In the meantime...I have NO restriction, can eat anything that I want, am depressed, am wondering why I went through all of this when I am starting to gain back weight, just like always! I hope that he will be able to do it under fluoro. Ok, I am done ranting, I hope it will all be resolved soon!
