I can't imagine how I won't starve....protein shakes and one meal week one. Week two all liquid. OMG. I'm already wondering if grapes or watermelon are really just " chewy liquid".

I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and I had nausea for two weeks! It's gone now and I just are a egg roll from jack n the box! Not a good idea but I feel like I'm starving to death

go back to liquid for a few days. that's one of those "too full" signs. you might need to heal more before you can tolerate purees. it was several weeks for me. -
Hi everyone! I am waiting to schedule my appointments with the surgeons office. They won't schedule any appointments until I get, complete, and return the medical packet they mailed me. I am a bit confused about one aspect though. My insurance requires 90 days of medically supervised diet and exercise. The office said it will take 6 months before my procedure can be scheduled. Why would the office want an extra 3 months versus my insurance?

I know I am jumping the gun as tomorrow is the first day in June but I just wanted to ask anyone having surgery in June to post on here their post op experiences. I am having surgery the 11th so everyone before me- I can't wait to hear your experience, pain levels, advice etc! So far I was told to: 1) take my own pillow to the hospital 2) bring Chapstick 3) get up and walk as soon as they let me post op 4) try broth or G2 if Water doesn't sit well after surgery 5) Stay positive because this too shall pass! Anyways- best of luck to all those June sleevers! Let me know if we need to bring something else with us on our journey! Can't wait to see how your surgeries go!

Sacramento, calif. Gastric Sleeve. In Pre-Op Now!
Larry Stuto posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a decision! Im with Kaiser South Sacramento. Things movin fast! I have to drop 15lbs pre-op. Im down 10 & waiting for my Sike(physcological) Dr, appointment. They then schedule surgery and I have to lose 5 more LBS. before. Total looks like 3-4 months from start to surgery. On a 1200 calorie now. Not bad but not easy. Man I want a cheeseburger and fry or fish N chips. LOL. Good news is I want a NEW ME MORE!! I was originally sold on the lapband but have been won over by the Gastric Sleeve bypass. Lap band longterm did not appeal to me. Why go through all this to fail. Plus,Insurance only covers 1 surgery so If it failed and they had to take it out I have to pay for the next one. I also found out that It is approx. $100.00 each time they have to fill the port. Insurance wont cover. Anyway I cannot wait to get this ball a rolling. Ive been practicing chewing my food, small bites, taking my time and no liquids when I eat. Started the vitamin supplements too! My Dr. has done over 1000 surgeries with awsome success. So im comfortable. Good luck to all my other newbies!! and Pre-Oppers! Love to stay in touch and share our progress! Email anytime! -
Profession after surgery?
Rena's got this replied to mrswifey2008's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was a bread-a- holic. I loved my bread! I was so hoping that this surgery would change my tastes, and it has. I find that I no longer crave bread, Pasta, pizza, lasagna, french fries, pastries, anything with simple carbs. meat is what I crave now...and veggies. I've eaten more salads in the past month than I had in five years. I'm on a stall right now, but I know my body is just readjusting, so I'm not worried. -
Hi...my husband and I had our sleeve surgery on 3/14...I have no problem eating foods and he cannot keep anything down...the only difference is he had a hernia repaired. Are there any others out there that had a hernia that were unable to eat and now things are better? He is very concerned that he has ruined his chances of living a normal enjoyable life since he is sick after every meal...any words of hope or encouragement from those a bit further along in this journey?

Thank you. They told me two weeks too but surprises are always awesome -
Hi I would think that if you lose some more weight within the next few weeks (which you should at this rate) the fat by your band will decrease thus loosening your band so yes I do believe it will get better.
-
I have had several fills and the last 2-3, I have experienced the same thing....real tight for a week or so and then it slowly loosens up. My doctor told me that the fat pad around the stomach starts to go away as you lose weight and the band loosens....that's why we have to have fills......to tighten and continue to lose weight. I got my last fill 2 weeks ago, and I am just starting to be able to eat a little solid food....only if I chew, chew, chew. My doctor has me on liquids for 2 days after a fill (absolutely nothing solid in the soups). Hang in there....it will get better slowly. Now that I am at goal....there isn't much of a fat pad left....so this time I have remained really tight for a long time. You can always have a slight unfill if you are not comfortable......Remember, you need to always make sure you can drink lots of water or you are in grave danger of dehydration.

Cravings ,,, So sick of liquid diet
alexa replied to Lucky Dog's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been thinking the same thing. I think it would be ok as long as the soup has been strained so there are no food pieces swallowed. I think creamy soups are part of the full liquid diet, which based on the guidance I was given can start on day 3 post - op. -
Hi, I would like to talk to anyone who is at the four week mark. I am returning to work tomorrow. I am a bit nervous about changing my eating patterns. I am having a soft poached egg for Breakfast and Protein Shake for lunch. With my small meals being yougurt and bannanas, hummus or smashed Beans. My problem is at night when I want Snacks. What are some ideas you may have to help me not get back into a pattern of doing great through the day and wanting snacks at night? Thanks

Any Savannah or South Georgia sleevers?
Miss Bee replied to Miss Bee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm all over the place. No idea what size I am. I found out at 13 weeks that I was a month pregnant during surgery. It's been scary. -
Oh, I got so excited about finding a fellow Delawarean that I forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! I have two more nutrition classes (April & May). My insurance required 6 months worth of classes. I also have two clearances, both scheduled the 2nd week in April. I should get my actual date soon, probably in May. However, if possible, I plan to schedule my surgery in June. Little bits

So, I actually had my date for April 21st and I canceled and backed out three days before surgery!! So upset....when I rescheduled I got July 9th...So, it's another waiting game. I began this process December 30th...and got the April date. So mine was only 4 months which I am told is not bad at all with all the tests required. Luckily, my insurance doesn't require any waiting...I got approved on my first appointment. It's now the waiting game that SUCKS. I screwed myself so bad. I keep thinking, I would be a week POST OP already...Shame on me.... But I hope we all get through ok! Would love to get to know everyone better! You guys are my sleeve sisters!

Hi Sleeve Sisters! I'm Karen and I'm 43 and live in Asheville, NC. I was a thin, competitive athlete and had a consistent weight of 130-135 throughout my 20s. Then I had my first child 10 years ago and my second 7 1/2 years ago and gained 70lbs with each one and despite spinning 5x week throughout and after my pregnancies I wasn't able to get below 180. 2 1/2 years ago I decided to go on the 500 calorie a day phentermine and HCG diet for a year and got down to 155. In the two years I've been off of that I gained 110 lbs, partly because the phentermine permanently damaged my adrenal glands causing my basal metabolic rate to be 1/2 of what it should be (and causing massive fatigue issues making exercise nearly impossible). If I don't eat under 1,200 calories a day for the rest of my life I'll never lose this weight. I'm really excited to have the surgery and get back to the real me and getting fit again. I'm scheduled for July 1st. I'm really worried about the 2 week liquid diet, though.

Weight Management (Weight Loss/gain)
DaniG replied to sharoncarrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 6 lbs on my final weigh in and my insurance company ok'ed my surgery. They know why we need the surgery. I kinda went crazy and ate everything I wanted bc I knew I wouldn't be able to eat my faves again. Now I'm 2 weeks out and 21 lbs lighter. So happy. Good luck to you on your journey. -
I too suffered from PCOS pre-surgery (surgery Dec 2013). I would go sometimes years without a period if I didn't take medication and when I finally would have one it would last at least 2 months. My cycle finally started coming regularly in April of this year and I can now set my clock by it. It comes every 4 weeks as it's supposed to and last about 3-5 days. I too wish I would have done this much sooner. Best of luck to you.

I received my pre-op diet pages yesterday. Phase 1 is until they inform me of my date; Phase 2 is 2 weeks before the surgery. Phase 1: Meal portions in half; no starches or sugars; only lean meats or fish, fresh fruit or vegetable with every meal; 2-3 servings of dairy (lowfat milk or lowfat yogurt) daily. Can have lowfat cheese as Protein, but if it constipates you, do not eat it anymore, 2 Multivitamins per day. Exercise at least 5 days per week. Phase 2: Protein drinks, Fiber supplements, 1 cup raw vegetables per day ,100 oz of Fluid, and the barrage of Vitamins. I don't know what CQ10 is or what it is for, but I purchased it today. Since I've already lost 17 pounds, he said he'd like me to lose 5-8 pounds more before surgery.

YankeeChick75 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm FINALLY on the home stretch of a long road! (Well, I still have a long way to go) Next week, 9/8, I will have my Lapband Surgery, my life will officially begin again! My doctor recommended a low carb pre op diet this week and then nothing but liquids (clear) the entire day before my surgery. Any suggestions are much appreciated! Also, anyone out there who's had the surgery yet?? How do you feel? Thanks! -

Hi All. So i met with my PCP yeaterday and he was very supportive of my decision. I told him that my insurance requires at least 3 months of supervised diet an he said to just start logging my meals and weight. What i really want to know is how will the insurance co. Interpret the results of this diet? Should one really strive to loose as much weight as possible or is that a bad move? I am afraid the insurance co. (cigna) might take it as " hey he can loose on his own NOT APPROVED" should i just loose a few pounds? Just to prove i tried and it didnt work? I know that if i stick with a diet and exercise for 3months i will loose weight but my problem is staying the course . I want to make sure i do this perfect and not give them any chance to question the approval. I would appreciate any advice i can get. Thank you
