Anyone had a revision to original gastric bypass?
MISTY_CEE035 replied to Jsteelecat's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello I hope you are doing. Congratulations on the revision of the Gastric Bypass. If you would not mind sharing the name of the surgeon who conducted your revision in case I experience the same issue and may need to seek further medical support. Are you in NYC? Misty -

Slow Weight Loss
Jaelzion replied to sydneymarie2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My experience was similar to yours, I only lost 25 pounds in the first two months; however, my loss continued at a steady 10 pounds per month for quite a while after that. I know it seems like it takes forever, but at 10 pounds/month, it wasn't long before it started adding up. I was even more impatient because I had a cousin who had the bypass a few days apart from me and when I compared our progress it seemed like I was losing SO. MUCH. SLOWER. But comparing with other people doesn't work well because a lot of things go into the rate of weight loss, such as your activity level, your dieting history, your natural metabolism rate, how much you have to lose, etc. Are you sticking closely to the eating plan your bariatric team gave you? Drinking enough fluids? Getting your protein in? Eating more real food than processed stuff? Do you feel the restriction from your surgery and are you stopping when it kicks in (or just before)? Are you logging what you are eating? That really helped me, especially early on. One thing my surgeon warned me about was including too many excess carbs in my diet, especially refined carbs. So you might want to make sure you're not overdoing it there. If so, you are doing all the right things. You've lost 28 pounds in two months, so you're averaging 14 pounds per month. That's actually good and will quickly add up to a big weight loss. If you keep losing at that rate, you would be 84 pounds lighter in 6 months! Just keep going, you'll get there... -
New Tastebuds
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to beautifullyblessed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to hate smooth peanut butter by itself (as opposed to in baked goods) and now find it’s ok with pretzels or on a wasa cracker. For a while after my VSG the only liquid aside from protein shakes I could drink was grape Powerade zero (super weird). After my revision though water tastes so good so it’s much easier now. There have definitely been times I craved something and it turned out to be just meh. I’m just glad I haven’t lost my love of spinach! And oddly, my tolerance for spicy foods has gone up and I enjoy it more. 🤷♀️ -
Revision to Bypass due to Gerd
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Reina44's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Revision surgery was the best thing I ever did to reduce my GERD. I was only 8 months post VSG when I had my revision so still in weight loss so I can’t answer the question as to whether or not it’ll cause further weight loss for you. I’m almost 3 months post VSG to RNY revision and I’ll admit I only take my protonix when I remember and will be talking with my surgeon about discontinuing it at my next visit. Before revision surgery I was taking 2 40mg protonix, 60mg Pepcid, and upwards of 12 tums a day. I also no longer aspirate while sleeping and I don’t have any more hiccups that were worsening daily for over 4 months for which I’m sure my coworkers are also grateful! -

I haven't had a revision, but hopefully this search link will help you, there are a number of posts about revision to bypass within the search link https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=revision bypass -
I’m sorry your recovery was so rough! Congrats your losses so far and on getting through it. I recently revised from sleeve to DS myself.

Hello, I had the gastric sleeve September 2017 and I have lost about 60 lbs. I've had the worst issue with Gerd and taking medicine everyday sucks, also concerned with the long-term effects of the taking the medication. I had an EGD and have gastric sleeve stenosis and angulation of the incisura. Doctor says the only way to correct the issue is to have a gastric bypass. I am so nervous about doing this all over again and was scared that I would lose too much weight. He advised that I wouldn't lose that much. Can anyone give me details about their experience with their revision to Bypass? How was the transition?

Can anything be done after gastric bypass
Shonabear29 replied to deannaculp's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm 8 years out and started gaining after the loss of my oldest son and being in a car accident a year ago. There is revision surgery for us that had the rny. I'm been studying it. Before I do it though I want to see if I can lose on my own. So I have gone back to the basics where I was at week 2 post op. I've lost 3 lbs in a week. Having a hard time getting water in but I'm trying. Also I'm walking 30 minutes a day. I'm tracking everything. Need to go buy a new scale though. I don't know where I misplaced the one I had. MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!
Groovymommy replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello fellow Summer 2020 bypassers! Hope everyone is doing well. I'm amazed at the amount of weight that I have lost so far - I'm already 2/3 of the way to my first goal. (Well, really my only goal. I guess once I get there I'll see how I feel and decide if I need to lose more or not.) The last few weeks have been rough. Much rougher than the first couple of months, to be honest! I just don't want to eat at all. I was having a real problem with indigestion, and felt like there was a rock sitting in the middle of my chest all the time. After consulting with my surgical team and the nutritionist, they had me start taking Pepcid (generic: famotidine) daily. Now I take one tablet every morning and sometimes a second one in the evening, if I've had anything slightly spicy to eat. IT HAS HELPED SO MUCH. I feel much better, no more pain/tightness in my chest, and everything I eat doesn't automatically make me want to vomit. I never had a problem with acid, GERD, reflux, etc. before surgery but I guess now my digestive tract is just a lot more sensitive. Just lately I've been experiencing dizziness and feeling faint when I stand. I'm sure this is due to low blood pressure and I know it's a symptom of dehydration, though I don't have any other symptoms. So I'm duly attempting to sip on water, iced tea, etc. all day long. It's rough to get it down when I don't even have a desire for food, and I've gone back to making myself protein shakes on occasion because I know I'm for sure not getting enough protein from food either. Interested to hear how others are dealing with feelings of weakness or dizziness, if you've had them. What helps more? Protein or water? I'm sure the answer is probably "both." 😄 In other news, I finally saw an orthopedist for my frozen shoulder, and I'm going to PT twice a week. It's helping already. After discussing it with the doctor, I'm going to try to tough it out without the steroid injection for now, and just use cold/heat and that topical stuff (Voltaren) for pain relief. You know how you can tell you've really lost some serious weight? When your underwear doesn't fit anymore. I had to get rid of a bunch of my beloved boyshorts from MeUndies. Sad day! I kept a couple to try to turn into headbands or something, haha! -
I am in the process of pre-op for Gastric Bypass in December. I have purchased the multi vitamin and calcium chews in advance but am in the process of open enrollment at my job. One thing I need to determine is my medical expenses for the upcoming year. I was wondering if anyone paid for their vitamins through their FSA account?

Only popped back in now, I’m two years since my MSG revision. I’ve spent the last year hanging around 84 kgs so I’ve another 20 to go (was 135kg at MSG surgery). I have to get back on track as I know how to cheat 🤣

once you are approved you are good. I was a 44bmi with no co's..... my doc said to not lose a pound till i did. Then after i was approved i could lose if i wanted to. On the 2 week liq diet i lost more than 10lbs. When i got then sleeve my bmi was 31(8/28/19) with no co's, but even though it was done 2.5 years after band removal it still was considered a revision. He noted my chart with my first bmi of 44 (2009), what i had gotten too 26 (2017) with the band. Of course, my insurance didn't cover the removal or the sleeve.... 14k out of pocket for the sleeve. I am so grateful...... my bmi is now a 21. 5'2" 120lbs

What was/is your greatest fear?
Dearvaleriexo replied to Smitty74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My major fears: 1. My surgery being canceled or rescheduled. My surgery was supposed to be in May, but this pandemic forced my doctor to reschedule three times before finally having the surgery this past Friday (10/23). 2. That my doctor would do the wrong surgery on me. I wanted the gastric sleeve, but I was paranoid that due to some miscommunication, my doctor would perform a gastric bypass on me. Walking into the OR, my mind was raging with the thought of having the wrong surgery, even though all the papers I signed said gastric sleeve. As I fell asleep with the anesthesia, my last words were “gastric sleeve” 😂 3. Giving up the food I love. I’m Dominican - I was raised eating heavily seasoned ethnic foods. The food of my culture is soooo good, but so unhealthy at the same time. 4. How I’ll look once I lose all the weight. I’m concerned that if I lose too much weight, I’ll look sick. Or that my body will look weird and have saggy skin 😓 I’m only 22, so I’m praying my skin will bounce back, but you never know. My mom had her gastric sleeve at 45 years old (4.5 years ago), and she only had saggy skin (barely) in one area. Hopefully I’ll be as lucky as her. 5. Concerns that I’ll gain the weight back as years pass. Over the last few years, it’s become apparent to me that I’m a stress eater. I’d eat if I was sad, upset, had a rough day, was bored - whatever reason you can find, I chose to eat because of it. My relationship with food was definitely unhealthy. I’m three days post-op: even though my cravings have pretty much vanished, it’s difficult to see my family eat all this good food. I’ve been dying to have a piece of chicken or a sandwich. (Bread and fried chicken were my biggest problems). Even soda, for example. I used to drink so much soda, and now I’ll never be able to drink it. It’s scary to think about. 6. Now that the surgery is done, I’m scared that any weird movement I make, will open up one of my incision sights. I have six total, but only one has stitches. It’s difficult to stand up or even sit up without help. That kind of movement makes me feel the stitches in my very soul - it’s a terrible feeling. Coughing, sneezing, burping: all make me feel the incisions. I lightly press a small pillow on my stomach if I feel like I’m going to cough or anything of the sort; it does help with the pain. 7. This is such a life altering surgery. I wonder sometimes if I was actually ready for it. -
I've always been overweight. I honestly can't remember a time when I wasn't. But it's crazy how when you're a kid, you're not fat, obese, or whatever, you're cute and chubby, and the extra weight that you're carrying is no need for concern. But as you get older that quickly changes and you're no longer perceived as chubby and cute, and the extra weight has become a major problem, not just for yourself, but for others as well. I wonder if any of you can relate to this. I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I know many people say this and it's as if they're just talking, but I've actually been the biggest person in my class, school, church, etc. It was rare that I would see someone that was just as big as I was, if not bigger. I've tried different diets, exercise plans, supplements, nothing has worked for me. If I did lose any weight, it was a short-lived accomplishment. I've struggled with deeply rooted insecurities that only further fueled my horrible relationship with food. I have struggled with anxiety and depression for years because in my mind I could never get to that perfect weight or body. Just a constant battle with myself for most of my life. It has taken a great deal of trial and error for me to get to where I am today in how I see myself, physically and otherwise. I have come to love myself and my body and I feel that there's nothing wrong with loving who or how you are physically, mentally, spiritually, and yet you feel the need to change a part of you. I believe most people would associate this with insecurity, but I beg to differ. I believe that it is the reasoning behind the decision to change that makes the difference. While I have learned to love and appreciate my body for all that it has done and continues to do for me, I am also very aware that carrying over 200 pounds of extra weight is not healthy for me. I want to have children one day and I don't want to put them or myself at increased risks because of my weight. I don't want to be at an increased risk of high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes, or congestive heart failure. These things run in my family and I don't want to be next in line. I want more for myself. I haven't went swimming in years, but I remember how good it felt to feel weightless in the water, how peaceful and serene it was for me. I view this surgery as an opportunity to experience life in a different way. Even though I can walk or run at the weight I currently am, I know that my body will feel a lot better walking and running with less weight being carried around. Even though I can go swimming now, or travel the world just as I am right now. Simple things such as "will I fit in this seat? Will they have clothes my size? Is there going to be a lot of walking, etc...". I don't think many people understand the daily struggles of an obese individual. Yes, we're all aware of the "health concerns" associated with being over-weight. But not many people are aware of those small things that affect us daily such as standing for extended periods of time, back and body aches, getting winded or out of breath easily, etc. I've made the decision to have gastric-bypass surgery as I'm confident that this is the tool that I've been missing to help me finally be successful in my weight-loss journey. I'm nervous and excited, but in the end I know this is the best decision for me. I'm interested to meet anyone who would like to go through this journey together, no matter where you are in your own journey. I'd love to hear from you all and know how you're doing and if I can be of some help to you, even if it's just a kind word. Good Luck! And Blessings to you all!

Whats does the hospital give for the gas ?
dal101 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi , Having gastric bypass on the 31st woot! Was wondering what medication they give in the hospital to help with the gas pain? Everyone is talking about gas X but I live in the UK so. Was thinking chewable pepto bismol might help. Thoughts? -

Feel like something is wrong
skyewolfe replied to Yourbestfriend's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like every one else is saying it sounds too aggressive of a diet. Try slow cooker foods. My first soft food was turkey chili and became my life for a couple of months lol. I had a bypass and I’m almost 8 months out and at least 1 meal a day is still protein drinks and I still can’t eat beef. Hell even chicken is iffy sometimes. try getting in touch with a nutritionist that works with bariatric patients -

Sleeve to Bypass for weight loss?
Circlesis replied to Christina760's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My understanding from the doc is that revising to bypass is not ideal for much weight loss. If you have reflux that is something else to consider however. -
Had band to sleeve revision done on the 19th. Little pain where the port was taken out. Still in liquid phase of post op diet.
