OMG you poor thing! At least they were able to fix it, right? How scary! It's a risk, and risks triple with revisions from band to sleeve for leaks. At least you are home and safe. (HUGS)

Worried About How Little I Can Eat 4 Months Out.
Wheetsin replied to TMyers1471's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A few more things to keep in mind. The density of the food absolutely matters. Your body size matters. I thought restriction with my sleeve would be consistent - but it's not really. So things like day, time of day, etc. really matter. I've pretty much given up dinner. It's just not comfortable for me to eat at night and I don't want to risk the reflux by pushing it (that's part of why I'm still not up to a realiable 600 cals/day even at 5 months out). Size of your stomach matters. They remove the fundus/greater curvature, but some stomachs are longer than others. Volume-wise - probably under 1/4C for me most of the time. There have been a few exceptions. I also do not count my intake as "what I can eat in 20 minutes". I count it as "however long it takes, until I'm satisfied or think I just need to stop." It can matter if you're a revision, too. And the location of your scar tissue. -
I was initially scheduled for gastric bypass ( I initially wanted sleeve but I had reflux that was not being controlled). I cancelled two days before surgery. I got scared and decided I could lose weight on my own. I put on twenty pounds pretty quickly and scheduled an appointment with my surgeon. We talked about my fears, developed a plan for addressing my reflux, and scheduled sleeve surgery. you have to do this in your own time. But, I am so glad I did. That feeling of powerlessness and helplessness is gone. I am 3 months out and down 47 pounds from my pre-sleeve weight at this point. It is so to have this tool and see things moving in the right direction.

My Dr's post op diet EXTREMEMLY conservative
BLERDgirl replied to HMR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For one thing it's a fairly new surgery. So some surgeons tend to be more conservative and mirror their recommendations based on how they treat bypass patients. Additionally there has to be some variation based on the needs of the patient, and their medical history. For example, I am a vegetarian so the recommendations my nutritionist outlines for me may be slightly different than what someone who eats meat, fish or poultry. -
Un-fill Lapband before Sleeve Surgery?
apricotsmommy replied to RAAinNH's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We lessened but did not unfill my band. I think I went to 2.6 cc from 4.1. I was having trouble with vomiting and was at that level for about three months before we did my revision. It was all in one procedure. He would have done it without the unfill, but the unfill was what made me decide on the revision. I did have a complication with an infection in the incision where the port was, but to be honest I would still do the all in one procedure again, even with the surgery to fix the infection and abscess. My opinion is that was an unlucky and rare thing, not a deterrent to doing both in one shot. -
It's been a great journey thus far - six 1/2 months after my gastric bypass on May 14. I'm not going to say it's all been easy. Recently I've been through a bump in the road having a bowel obstruction and removal of my gallbladder, but I'm getting stronger each day. I will be running again in no time!! Today I've reached the 100 lb loss and I wanted to share this great news with all of you! I'm so excited. Thank you all for your guidance and support. Love you all. <3

People with no more than 100 pounds to lose
Tamzab replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just had a revision from sleeve to rny on 12/12 due to horrible reflux and barrets esophagus. I started at 180 and have lost 20 pounds. I had a horrible experience in the hospital and ended up having internal bleeding, needed blood transfusion... my oxygen level drop down to mid 50’s a few times. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days. I’m still quite swollen and bruised so I think I will lose a few more once I’m completely healed. -
My bypass is this Wed. My bed is upstairs. Will I be able to climb the steps or do I need to make a bed in my recliner downstairs? I am trying to get everything clean and in order while I am in the hospital so I do not have to worry about it when I get home.

Bandster Hell: Anyone in Heaven?
Tyanna replied to pandagirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can't say I am in lapband heaven but I am not in lap hell either. It must be purgatory!!! lol I was banded 2 weeks ago so I am not an expert but I have not been hungery soup and high protien liquid fill me up. I have lost about 15 lb in the last 6 weeks. I don't expect the weight to come of fast that is one of the reasons I chose the lap band. i want my skin to have the chance to shrink while I am losing weight. I don't want to have to have any unessary surgery to remove excess skin if I don't have to that is why i want to lose weight slowly one or two lb a week is fine with me. I didn't gain it overnight so I don't expect to lose it overnight either. I look at the band as a tool to help me succeed in my weightloss efforts. It is a tool to help keep me from cheating on my weightloss plan. So far so good. With gastric bypass you are forced to change your eating habits. If you are not commited to giveing up sugar and changing your eating habits you are not ready for either sugery. It is all up to you. I as so glad I was banded. Hope this helps in your decision. -

It may be a bit more work but the upsides are the band is better for your body.....good luck to you and keep me posted....susan -

changing sizes......
Used2b575lbs replied to italianmama41's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fortunate to know someone who had a bypass three months before me so I got a lot of hand me downs along the way but I supplemented them with the salvation army, and sales/clearance racks (burlington coat factory was a good one for me) I've come down from size 66 pants to size 40 so I had to buy clothes in all those sizes I would have a huge credit card bill. I wore things lose for as long as possible and bought stuff in smaller sizes knowing I would eventually get there. -
GETTING SLEEVED IN TORONTO!?
habee replied to habee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope. I am going through the Ontario Bariatric Network. My doctor referred me for the sleeve procedure specifically, but I've heard in Ontario that Gastric Bypass is the golden standard, so I'm really hoping that when I hear news it's to meet about the sleeve procedure, but I am open to hearing more about Gastric Bypass as well. I previously went to two orientation on Gastric Bypass but I was only 18 and just wasn't ready. -
GETTING SLEEVED IN TORONTO!?
habee replied to habee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh man, that's my concern but i've kind of faced the facts now haha. I really wanted to get the VSG surgery, but if they think bypass is best then i'll go with that. -
Are you kidding? This is less pain then my original Band Surgery
Tiffykins replied to Jaffa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Glad to hear you're doing so well ! ! ! I agree the band surgery was way more painful than the sleeve revision. My main issue is where the stupid port was, and it was surrounded by a bunch of scar tissue. Cheers to you, and hopefully the clears are keeping you entertained. -

Had my band to sleeve surgery on Tuesday
cinward2001 replied to JohnC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was revised on Tuesday, too! Staci, I had my surgery early in the am and NOTHING by mouth until about 2 pm on Wed...after doing the xrays with contrast to check for leaks. I didn't experience any extreme pain, although I did have one bout of severe gas for about 1.5 hrs later that evening. That hurt like hell and the dr had left orders for morphine if I needed it...nurse didn't give it...only gave the "regular" stuff. I didn't find that out until the NEXT day, so instead, I walked, stood, rocked from foot to foot, etc...and it went away. Probably better in the long run that I dealt with it that way vs being doped and in bed. But t the time, I would definitely have preferred being doped! So try not to worry about the pain...sometimes the anticipation of it is worse than the reality. Right now, I'm VERY glad to have my band out. I think the band was causing some irritation and chest discomfort for much longer than I realized. And to be able to lie down without gurgling, sleeping through the night without coughing or reflux...even WITH the surgery incisions and drain is just HEAVEN! -
Did anyone start with a BMI in the 50's? What were your results?
winkie80 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgical consult today and it has set my mind spinning! I have a high BMI of 55. My surgeon, though absolutely willing to move forward with lap band for me, strongly suggests I consider Sleeve or Bypass. He feels I may be disappointed with my weight loss results with the band. I have been reading posts on these boards for a few months now and I have seen very few people with a starting BMI/weight as high as mine (weight is 354). My surgeons office recommends an ideal weight of 155 for me (I'm 5'7) where as I would be happy with 175. The largest results in my research I have seen with the band were in the 100lbs range. Though this is amazing that would put me at 250. I guess what is really discouraging me is all the posts on here within the last few weeks regarding failing bands and low weight loss. If I am going to have surgery I want it to give me the tool that I need to assist me. I need some inspiration from those who started with high BMI's please. The great thing is I can start the process of the supervised diet and psych eval without making my final decision so I have some more time for research on both. I will be attending support groups for those who have gone through Band and Bipass surgery to hear their stories as well. Thanks! W -
Band Failed - Should I get the sleeve?
Malaika replied to petepotamus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Petepotamus - I can't help you with any information regarding a revision from band to sleeve. I did, however, want to welcome you to the forum and I am sure you will find a lot of information here that will help you make your decision. Good luck. -
Lap Band revision to sleeve?
BigDaddyMike replied to TracieR's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my band installed in March of 2010. I had great success, and in the first year lost 100 pounds, and felt great. Over time of trying to get the fill in the band adjusted to be right, I gradually gained about 30 pounds. In August 2013, I had a slip, which caused my stoma to be completely closed, and even after removal of all the fluid, the stoma stayed closed. I ended up having my band unbuckled and my gall bladder removed. To say that I am disappointed with the Lap Band process is an understatement. In researching my options, I have found many long term complications with the Lap Band. I am now working my surgeon and insurance company to get revision to the VSG. -

Side Effects and Complications
kinipela24 replied to onwarddown's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I am scheduled to see Dr. Illan or a gastric sleeve surgery but am now wondering if the mini gastric bypass is a better option for me. Although the rerouting of the intenstines scares me a little. I have a BMI of 51 and i dont know if the sleeve will be sufficient to take me to my goal and i dont really want to have a revision later. -
I'm in the process of scheduling myself for Mini Gastric Bypass for May 15th. I have read as much as I could find on the procedure and all the various side effects, but I'm very interested in hearing that information from people who have actually had the surgery, not a research article or summary of the procedure. Do people have trouble with acid reflux, how have you treated it and was it effective? Any ulcers or any other side effects? I'm not morbidly obese, but have been quite heavy my entire life. I'm 50 years old, and have finally decided to do something for myself. However, I'm having second thoughts and would appreciate input from anyone about any unpleasant side effects.
