Hi all! I have been reading posts for a couple of weeks now-i couldn't figure out how to post anything. I am in the process of doing the 6 month nutritionist thing and tonight I have to go to a weight loss seminar. These are all requirements of bcbs. Is anyone out there at the same point as me in this journey? Can anyone tell me if these 6 months fly by? Take Care!

My drs office faxed everything to my insurance a week ago today, and they told me they'd hear something in 7-10 days but my insurance is usually awesome about approving. Should I be worried that I haven't heard 'yes' yet, or relieved cos there hasn't been a 'no' yet? How soon did you guys all hear?

I am on the last day of my pre-op diet. Surgery is tomorrow, whoo hoo. Problem is my stomach is so sore, raw feeling. I am drinking Chike shakes from the dr., & broth. I can hardly stomach them and only get 2-3 out of the 4 I am allowed per day. Although I dont feel hungry (stomach growling) do you think it is what it is? The only thing that has helped is when I had a little baked chicken. I dont like to do that though because it isn't on my list and surgery is tomorrow. It hurts constant. Has anyone else has this or know why?

I have to start my liquid diet now, even before I have a surgery date because I gained 3 pounds since April. I think mostly from quitting smoking. I have everything done, just an ultrasound because they found gallstones when they did my upper GI. I am really dreading it, but hopefully I can get through it. I am waiting my doctor is sending my paperwork to get approval from the ins company, BCBS of Mass. Does anyone have experience with being denied because of a weight gain? Even just 3 pounds? Dr. Didn't seem to be too concerned, but I have to go to the nutritionist to start my liquid diet now, even before getting a surgery date, who she said could be November!! Don't think I can last that long on a liquid diet!!!

Hey everyone, I'm 5 days into my pre op and am finding it hard to come up with ideas. I'm restricted to 3 shakes a day plus 250 calories of low glycemic vegetables. I find myself making a lot of salads. I made cauliflower rice yesterday and that helped but I need some new ideas. Any one have any suggestions ? Thanks !

It shouldn't, what does your insurance say? Mine said that I should be on a diet that would allow me to lose 1-2 lbs a week.

I don't have that insurance but from start to finish I was 3 months but my problem was my bmi was 36.6 so I had to have 3 medical problems to get approved most insurances if u are over 40 u can get approved without that good Gluck too u I go Monday so fingers crossed

Any other teachers out there? Other suggestions welcome!

I am a high school teacher so I understand. I have a shake on the way to school and then have a small snack (almonds, cheese stick, small Protein Bar, etc) at about 9:30 if needed. Eat a sensible lunch at 12:30 and then I don't usually eat dinner until around 7pm. If needed, I have another small snack at 3:30 but most of the time I am ok. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk -
Getting 3 shakes and 150oz+ of water per day.

I have 2 girls aged 13 and 10 so they are not babies and I can't completely fool them. But 7 yrs ago I lost a lot of weight through diet and exercise and got a tummy tuck which was a big surgery, they visited me in hospital and were both very upset about it and made me promise them I would never do that again! Well sadly I've regained a lot of the weight I've lost and I'm certain the best solution for me is the Gastric Sleeve surgery. I'm thinking of scheduling the surgery and just not telling them but not sure how I'd explain a 3 night absence when I'm a stay at home mum who's always with them??! Did you tell your kids? I just can't bear the thought of my youngest crying and begging me not to have it done as I know she will so I think I need to do this without then knowing its going to be hard to keep it from then though!

Premier Protein Shakes?
I love lucy lover replied to Scooby_Who's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going to buy a case a week while on sale to stock up, I drink 1 every morning at work, better then then mixing the powder for sure -
I am not sure how to you could get protein in during the liquid phase without using Protein Shakes. You really need to try one that you can handle for a few weeks.

Went to my doctor last week, after a year of hesitating and thinking about it, finally got my letter from my PCP and took it to surgeon. Was given op date of September 9. Just did upper GI last Saturday, psychologist and nutritionist next monday. After that all papers go to insurance for approval. IS it me or is this all moving too fast. I hope I am not disappointed and have my surgery pushed back. In two weeks start pre-op diet of 5 shakes per day, thats it thats all. Have to lose 5% body weight to shrink the liver. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, excited but cautious as of now regarding surgery.:wink2:

Ins approval without medical record of morbid obesity?
Missvicky388 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, everyone. I'm a newbie who has been lurking on the forums for the past month or so. You all are amazing and I am so grateful for your candid comments and generosity of information. I have my first seminar next week so I am trying to get my ducks in a row. My insurance does cover banding so I am very fortunate (horizon bc in nj). However, I am a little concerned about whether my lack of medical treatment records might impact the insurance decision. I do not have pcp, haven't seen a doctor in a number of years. I dont have anything "official" documenting my weight and weight loss efforts. I have a few years of cardiovascular screening records, including my weight, from my job. Do you think i can use that proof? I guess I've benn avoiding medical testing and treatment all these years because I just didn't want the doctors to make me feel any worse than I already felt. Not sure if anyone else has been through this. Thanks for any help. -
Depression post surgery
BrentinLA replied to thinoneday's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had a couple of operations, not including my upcoming WLS next week, and always find myself a bit out of sorts for at least a week after surgery. Here's what I attribute the depression to: a. You've just had surgery--your body has been through a huge workout, so to speak. You've had medications, been put under, have had pain meds, blood thinners, etc. b. The whole ordeal is stressful: hospitals, machines, monitors, etc. c. You are in pain or discomfort. d. Your daily routine is out of whack. e. You may need help with things. f. You don't feel like yourself. ...and a lot of other immediate changes. If you think about it, it all makes sense that you would be a little depressed, or at least a little emotional. I know I'm always a little down in the dumps after a procedure..and it's probably normal. -
Got my surgery date!
countrygrl1978 replied to countrygrl1978's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually had to switch dr's. My original one was pretty much scamming my insurance and kept having me come in and billing for bs stuff. I am PPO, so when I got the bills, I knew either I wasn't there or nothing was done like stated. I started 10/31 with my 6 mo. nutritional. New dr I saw 4/28 & 5/15 so he had 2 extra visits on there), it was submitted 5/28 & approved 6/3. I called Blue Shield Thursday to talk about the last dr, and they told me. And today when I faxed over my pcp approval for the surgery, she set everything up. And said I just need 1 week of protein diet. -
Thanks ladies, I had my surgery July 18th and i thought i was going to b on my period since it usually lasts a week, but that pre op diet i was on for two weeks changed it! Lol and only lasted 4 days! Im happy i didnt have to deal with the surgery AND my period at the same time..lol
