    Side Ache?

Hi I am a little over a week out of surgery. I started mushies yesterdat and everytime I try to eat them I get a side ache in my left side that lasts for an hour or so. Has anyone else had this or know what it is?
  2. i definitely understand where you are coming from. im 33 and have spent most of my life fighting my weight. my highest weight was 225. and my goal is 150. my family history played a major role in my decision to get the band, my mother died morbidly obese at the age of 52. my older sister died from a heart attack 2 weeks after her 40th birthday. ive spent the last few years struggling with my weight terrified of ending up like my mom an my sister. my other siblings are ovewrweight as wekk. im actually the smallest adult in my family. for me it was a decision based more on the weight i could end up as opposed to the weight i was currently at. it is a hard decision but so far its a decision im very happy with. i dont expect to be thin over night but even in the 4 weeks since my band was placed i already feel so much better. not just physically but mentally as well

3rd Fill Yesterday - Maybe a little tight

I had a fill on Monday, 5ml total now. Water went down fine with minimal burping. This is the third day now and I can drink and sip thick liquids and ate 1/4 cup of cottage cheese with a little burping. I feel very tight. I tried to eat more solid food, even chewing a lot but got a lot of heavy chest pain. Not real comfortable, I'm hoping it will calm down in a couple of days, if not by next week or I'm getting 1 ml taken out.
  5. Hello ladies! My name is Rachel and I am getting banded this coming Friday. I'm super excited and super nervous. I don't know anyone else who is going through this and was hoping to find someone to go through it together. I read your posts and thought I should try to reach out. Anyway, my dr only has me on the pre-op liquid diet for two days (which adds to my nervousness because most posts I have come across say 2 weeks. Interestingly, I havent even had the surgery yet and I have split reactions from my friends and co-workers. I feel like I am being negatively judged, like people think this is an easy way out... It's quite frustrating and disheartening and makes me second guess the decision. However, I am doing this. I am tired of struggling and beating myself up for failure after failure. I am really excited about this new chapter and hope that I can find a support system that understands my situation. (my husband is very supportive, but at his worst was 10, maybe 15 lbs overweight. But he just gets on a treadmill for a couple weeks, and it falls off no problem). Ok, guess I should stop rambling and see what happens. Good luck to us all!
  6. Ok, don't know how to explain but here goes: My second fill was about 5 weeks ago, I know I need one because I'm not in the green zone. However, I've been eating larger portions for the last week or so which had caused the "side stitch" feeling. I know this is completely my fault. I guess I'm wondering if another fill is a good idea? I see my surgeon tomorrow but wondered if anyone else felt something similar or had advice? Thanks, and sorry for any confusion!

    Salad Questions

I'm about a month post-op, and for me, it would have been a little too early to eat salad at 2 weeks. But everyone is different. If it is OK with your doctor, give it a try. Just be careful and slow and chew a lot. It is true that raw fruits and vegies do have a tendency to get stuck more than other foods. One thing I did when I was craving raw fruits and vegies is chew them up and spit out the "roughage." I'm not necessariyl recommending this to you, but it did work for me. It works better with fruits and vegies than it does for, say, steak or Cookies. That's because there is so much juice in fruits and vegies. Just yesterday I took half a dozen stalks of celery and some carrots, dipped them into some dressing and chewed them up, then spit out the Fiber. It's a little gross but it is quite satisfying. I felt like I had become my own, personal human "Juice Man." And no machinery to clean when you're done!! I'd just be a little cautious about actually swallowing all that fiber stuff at two weeks post op. But the bottom line is, ask you doc.

    6 month Lap band prep

Yes, I had to fullfil the same requirements as you listed. We must have the same insurance? U.H.? I did not have "internet monitoring" though. I just finished the six months and was approved - surgery is in two weeks.
  10. Hello this is my first post so hello to all who may read this. I figured I would start here and introduce myself. I am Cinni and I have my first appointment with a surgeon in two weeks time to see if I can get myself on the public list here in Australia. I have been considering a Lap band for a while now but always told myself it was far to drastic and that if I was going to go to those lenghts then surely I could just stick to a damn diet.:thumbup::frown::eek: Well I am now between a rock and a hard place (I feel) as diets just don't work for me. :confused3::frown::incazzato: I feel I am now faced on one hand surgery which I am petrified of and on the other hand life shortening illnesses. My health is ok now but I can see it is slipping away and problems are rearing their ugly head due to obesity. I googled this forum and hope to become fully informed before I see the surgeon and decide to have the lap band. If I get on the public waiting list it could be a year before it gets done so at least I can do some research and grow some courage. Cinni
  11. I've researched the band for three years now and now that I'm getting banded in July '09, I'm getting colder feet. I've been overweight all my life and lost and regained a significant amount of weight throughout the years. I easily loose but just can't seem to keep it off. Right now I need to loose 150 lbs and just lost 55 on the WW program & with tons of walking. I know this is personal decision but if anyone has been in a similar situation, I would greatly appreciate all the advice I can get. ( good or bad ). You guys are all terrific and full of intuitive information that no one else can give. Thanks a bunch. Much appreciated !!!!!!

    SLOW losers?!

    I dunno, Sherry---that's almost 1.5 pounds a week. That's not a turtle's pace; it's the expected rate! You're doing a great job :smile2:
  13. hey everyone thank you for the kind words and support...feeling a little better this week. Like I said, just been very emotional. You don't realize how much time in the day you used to take up just eating, and not only because u were hungry...because u were bored, sad, lonely, upset, even happy. Now that I have all this time on my hands because I am not eating, it is driving me a little crazy...

    Advice Needed

Oh, that's miserable! I had gestational diabetes with my last baby and I just had to check my blood sugar wtih a finger prick a few times a day. Maybe your OB will let you do checks for a week and see how your numbers are instead of doing that horrible three hour test? If you just barely tested over, your finger pricks will probably be fine and you can have one less thing to worry about!

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels

Hey bandster family, Time for my morning rant session. Like I said last week , I had a fill on Thursday (it's going pretty well). This band is definetly a tool, as you can tell by reading some of the success stories, some of us get the hang of it alot sooner than others. I've realized that some of the things I could eat last week with ease, don't work now that I've had this last fill. I had to learn the hard way that chicken (no matter how it's cooked) is not my friend. I had 1 drumstick from el pollo loco yesterday (1 lousy drumstick), didn't even eat the whole thing, and it was a wrap. Chest started getting tight...... and well yall know the rest. It's crazy, I've been pretty good about staying away from chicken, but for some reason, yesterday I just had to have it. So, I went to the grocery store last night, and stocked up on some of the old faithfuls, like shrimp, fish and tuna, and yes I did buy some chicken (can you say gluten for punishment), I plan on making chicken salad by boiling the chicken then putting it in the food processor (that's the only way it goes down and stays .. Well until later my bandster family, (hope this helps someone along their journey)

    Holiday Sabotage

I am so angry at myself. I've falling into the same "holiday pattern" that I do every year. People are constantly dropping off snacks at my desk at work, and my family is making sweet treats out the WahZoo. And pretty much since Thanksgiving I've been having a treat here or there and it has really stalled my weight loss. I'm sooooooooooo close to being at the 50 lb loss mark.. like 3 lbs. But for some reason I keep justifying "just one more bite" of fudge, etc. Anyone else having trouble? Got any good tips?

Thinking of surgery, Can you relate?

It took me 10 years and many, many, many failed attempts of dieting on my own before I was finally willing to have the surgery, but I am glad I did. Could I do this on my own? Maybe. Would it last? No. My deciding factors were simple for me (when I finally go there!) - two people lose the same amount of weight - one with surgery, one on their own - both are seemingly healthy. However, the person who DIDN'T have the surgery is still at a much higher risk of weight related diseases than the one who had the surgery. That was pointed out to me by a physician and the decision was made for me. I am just a week post-op, but no regret whatsoever!!!

    My dogs.

    From the album: CHubS

You see the doggy on the left? Thats Nala, my dog. Hence, my ID name. Nala was like me. Eating things (me and my family's fault) that she was not supposed to eat. I spent over $8,000 dollars a week before my surgery because Nala was diabetic ketoacidotic and had pancreatitis. They didn't even think she was going to make it. Before then, we spent $3,000 for the exact same thing. The doctor's had told me to stop feeding her human food. Now look, my best friend is taking insulin shots everyday, twice a day and it breaks my heart to make her cry. I paid a top Cornell vet dietician to formulate a new food for her. Me and nala are going to get healthy. I bet my life on it!

    I need support!

Kat...Take a deep cleansing breath! You are doing an awesome job just by realizing that you need the help! I was banded Feb 10 ,2006 on March 19, 2006 my husband was diagnosed with Cancer....my stress level hit mach 9!! The things that kept me going were these.... I kept reminding myself that life is real, things happen and sometimes those things are messy and ugly. All we can do is move forward and eating everything that isn't bolted down is not going to make it all better. If I felt like losing my mind (aka...eating everything in sight) I would do one of the following... walk around the block real quick drink a bunch of Water allow myself a small snack that was ok (100 calorie pack etc) if I was hungry turn up some music that made me want to dance turn on some music that made me mellow Put a pillow over my face and scream as loud as I could Find those things that you can do that don't involve icky foods. Also stick to your guns! I learned from personal experience that one "this cookie won't matter" leads to two...then three...see a pattern here? Your doing great keep up the great work and don't let the jerks get you down!!

    I took the first step!

You should probably check if your doctor runs an info session - most programs require that you attend at least one. I have been to two -at two different doctors and they were quite different, but both very informative. I have my first appointment with the dietician (first step for my doctor) 2nd week of September. Yay! Good luck.
  22. I called yesterday on a whim and my acceptance letters were sent out that same day. I could do the procedure pretty quickly but it seems that I have to have someone there with me and someone has to watch my kids. I have to be at the center at 5am and the hourly daycare center does not open till 8am. I am from minnesota so I dont have any family here in texas! Talk about obsticles! My husband is an offshore diver and is on call 24/7 so having him home on exactly the right time is only half my problem. I think I really need to find a babysitter in houston who is willing to be at by place at 4:30 in the morning LOL. I figure I might have to wait till the first week of january for when my mom is planning a visit and between now and then I can work out who can watch my kids. In the meantime, i need to sort through and get prepared for what is coming. I keep hearing that I will loose my hair and I am really interested to hear when that happens and how bad it is and can it be prevented. I suppose it will grow back, I am more interested in being about to shop off the sale rack at target in regular size clothes than what my hair will look like for a while. I get to be skinny again. I am so thrilled. So, if you read this far, *applause* and thanks. If you ahve any tricks or words of wisdom, or can give me any ideas of what to expect and what could make life easier between now and my surgury as well ass what I can do w=once I get home. Great big thanks, everyone!
  23. I have been tracking my weightloss for the last few weeks really closely. I am at a perfect point if I were are my goal. But I am getting hungery, my head is in the fig at night. So I call Doc Lee and told him I wanted to get in, in the next few days. So today, I am going in to get a fill. How agressive do I go> He is really open to letting me tell him what I think. I have a 10cc ap band. I have 4.5cc in it. I had 1cc in Nov. was my last fill. I want to be at my goal or close to it by the end of may or the first of June. If I can. 38 lbs..... any suggestions?
  24. wombat712

    final fill, I hope.

My doc does .5 cc at a time. That's fairly aggressive after you've gotten restriction. But he also tests it with fluoro to make sure it goes through right. Good luck on your fill!!! My last one (last week) has been fantastic - it's definitely made me slow down and chew ... or else! wombat
