    Having surgery

I waited almost 2 weeks before I heard back from my insurance. Every time my phone rang I jumped. After the phone call saying I was approved it was one week later I was in the operating room. Good Luck to you!

    2 weeks to surgery

For some strange season I was nervous and perhaps even anxious up until the day of the surgery, this is when I some up excited, kept think all this prep work I put in was for 2 weeks only and I feel faboulous with my progress and loss, imaging how much better after the op, which will be me tool, for my life changing journey is going to make me feel and postive thought that all will be well, and how many wonderful stories I read here. You will be fine. Everday I would send myself a positive sms. You got this. Rochelle :-)

I think it was about 2 weeks. I actually got the insurance letter over the weekend and called my surgeons office on Monday. They may have known a few days before me, though.
  8. Hey guys I had a couple of questions 1) I was already approved so why do I have to see the doc again? 2)what happens at your last pre op appointment? 3) when do you get your surgery date? 4) should I already start my pre op diet now? 5) how many people didn't have to do a 2 week diet? 6) did you have any complications? And if so what? 7) how long were u out of work? 8) how long after the surgery can u have sex? 9) what do I need for the hospital? 10)how many people had children after rny? And does it help boost fertility? 11)what vitamins do I need to buy? 12)what did u find most helpful after surgery? 13) did u do it alone? Or was somethere to help u during the day?

Any tips on surviving the post-op liquid diet?

It's still just liquid, but I really enjoyed my broth once a day. It was warm and savory and provided a change from the sweet tasting Protein drinks. I actually bought Campbell's soups and diluted them with a can of Water, heated them up, and then strained them through a fine strainer. Not the healthiest choices, but they have so much more flavor than the plain cooking broths. Also, be sure you are getting as much protein as possible with your liquids, as you are able. That will help you feel fuller longer. You can do this! It's only two itty bitty weeks. ;o)
  12. It's been six weeks since my lap band surgery and I have to tell you so far I am extremely happy of how it is helping me lose my weight. I underlined that because I see alot of people who are somewhat disheartened with their outcome so far. The band will not work miracles for you. Its a 50/50 plan that you have to work with as well. You can do it and you can make this happen for you. So far in the past 6 weeks I am proud to say that 51 pounds are gone that I will never see back again. Sayonara, Good Riddence and dont let the door hit you in the #$%. Best of Luck to all
  13. Hello All, I am new to this site and I am happy I have found it. I plan to have my surgery in next 2 months once I get my date. I do have concerns about... PBing... what exactly does that mean?... What can I do to not loose all of my muscle tone? How much pain are you in the day after surgery, i live upstairs and want to know can I climb them. what is the real recovery time.. can you really go to work in 3 days. ( I have a desk job). My BMI is at 50 and I am 4'11 / 232 will they force me get the gastric bypass, or should the 2 week liquid diet beforehand help? how bad is this gas, and does acidophillus help? I see alot of people take activia... also what exactly is w/ the pain in your shoulder.. does that last forever? I mean are the sife effects really worth the weight loss? I have my consultation with my Doctor next week and I have Oxford health insurance, does anyone have them, or has anyone been banded by Dr. Christine Ren? from NYU Medical Center??? She was on Oprah. and she has done thousands of procedures... I would love to know more about her.. Thanks in advance
  14. I am scheduled for surgery on Monday. I was told to lose 15lbs before my surgery. I am only down 6. I have been on the liquid and leafy green diet for over a week and have only lost 2 lbs (included in the 6). I am concerned they wont do the surgery. Has this happened to anyone.

    Is my sleeve too big

Some feel restriction more than others. I have never been one of those " I can barely drink 3oz" people. 2nd week post op I was drinking 33oz bottles of Water in less than 30 seconds. When it was time for solids, I felt more discomfort than restriction. Eating slowly made it worse.. At 6 weeks post op, I could eat 2 boiled eggs easy. What I have learned to do is measure (take note of) what I eat. I can't rely on stretch receptors. They act up all the time. Some days I take 2 cubes of boiled chicken and i'm in distress, feeling as if I swallowed a whale.. On other days I eat 4oZ of goatmeat with no issues whatsoever. Restriction is not reliable. I know that's lousy to hear, because we fear a constant/lifelong battle with hunger......
  16. Hi, I am a newbie so to speak. New to the lapband - surgery 12-11-08 and also new to this...first time (is what I'm doing called chatting)! A little about me .... 55 years old, married 35 years to a wonderful retired man, 1 son, 1 daughter in law, 1 13 year old grandson, currently kindergarten reading teacher for 3 years, first grade 17 years, and first year was in 6th grade in a rural K-8 district. I've always been overweight, many diet attempts, always active. Never let my weight keep me from doing things and achieving - Child to young adult bowler when I met my husband who worked at the bowling lanes carried a 225 average. Was a chubby Jr. High Cheerleader, Played softball - pitcher & 2nd base - Last few years played - team was champs, Played high school volleyball. As a teacher, for 10 years I was the girls volleyball and basketball coach and both boy's and girl's track coach for 10 years. My moto stayed intact. That is until about five years ago ...it caught up to me...sleep apnea, knees and hips going, and blood pressure creeping up. My mind said go...yes I can but my body said enough is enough. At my highest lifetime weight 386, I was miserable and almost immobile. I was in therapy for my knee for 16 weeks. I was in such bad shape it was almost like I had a stroke. I worked through that and became a little bit more mobile. During the summer I looked into the lapband... and went to the informational seminar...After that day their was no turning back. August 25, 2008 first visit with doctor weighed 376. Found out insurance would not pay, and that I would have to loss another 26 pounds before he would do the surgery. December 8, 2008 (my husbands birthday) started pre-op liquid diet on December 11, 2008 had my surgery. My only fear was getting on the hospital scale that morning and finding out I was not 350 or under...I was prepare to strip down if I had to....(which would not have been a pretty sight) but my weight was 345 with clothes at home and 343 with clothes at the hospital. From then on I was all smiles. I have not had any trouble ... I've went through all the diet stages ( I have followed all the rules/ with my husband's coaching) without anything bad happening. I'm on trial and error eating now...to see what I tolerate...so far nothing is on my Don't eat List except the doctor said no beef, pork, bread(sticky), celery for 6 mos. I was told to eat 1/2 cup 3x a day leaning heavily toward the Protein. I find my 1/2 cup tends to be a little rounded at the top whereas my husband's tends to be level....and he can tell what 1/2 cup is on a plate...so he has taken on the job of measuring! It's amazing though I'm never hungry between meals.... My eyes still think I need more...but as long as I know it's 1/2 cup I eat it and never feel hungry! I record and journal everything everyday. At my last doctor's appointment 1-12-09 he tried to fill me at the office but could not find the port - set up appointment at the hospital to do the adjustment - added 2.5 cc. back on liquid for a day, then puree, then regular 1/2 cup. Still no problems. My attitude is positive, my activity level is up, my energy level is up and my weight is down. I even walked a mile came in and biked (stationary) 10 minutes. For someone that could hardly walk from the parking lot to her classroom last year this to me is amazing! :w00t: My weight today is 321. I know I have a lot to go ... the rest of my life which because of this lifestyle change will be healthier, lighter, and happier. As you can tell, I'm a talker. I'm wanting to learn more from those that have traveled on this journey and rode this ride. I want to learn from your successes and mistakes.. I want to make new friends that have chosen this lifestyle change. I forgot to share my new motto : "Eating to Live" which changed from "Living to Eat". By just switching the words ... I'm healthier!

    No energy

Argh! Energy comes and goes. Most of this week I have felt like superwoman and then yesterday I crashed and had to take a nap - I NEVER take naps! (naps are for toddlers). I am 12 weeks out. So cut yourself some slack and like Kathy says, don't overdo.
  18. So annoyed and frustrated right now. After over a year of waiting and coming to seminars, groups, pre ops etc and then insurance saying I had to use a different surgeon due to COE requirements I was one appointment away from scheduling. Everything approved and had a single pre op class left in a few weeks. Just got a call today that my SECOND surgeon resigned. Now they have to resubmit with another COE surgeon at this COE. New surgeons ratings online are considerably lower. I mean I’m not so desperate I want just anyone rearranging my internal organs🤬. I’m so angry and frustrated with this process I’m losing hope. On top of this I was in the ER just a couple days ago and diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. So half my face is paralyzed. I’m so low right now I can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Just feeling very hopeless and needed to vent where other people may have dealt with the same red tape and hurdles and hopelessness.
  19. Good morning everyone, My name is Candice, I am 38 married to a wonderful man of 18 years and mother of 4 wonderful daughters. Okay, here is my weight loss story. I had a gastric bypass back in Sept 2003 and lost a total of 150lbs..But started having a lot of heath issues that weren't related to my surgery and was placed on 15 different medicines and 11 were steroids. So after dealing with my weight and trying to loss the weight without much success, I decided to find a doctor to help me out. After many test and all, my doctor found out that my stomach had went from a size of a pecan to the size of a lemon....So we decided that a revision of my first gastric bypass would be the best. I starting weight was my most high of 340( my weight went up and down over the past year), on surgery date I was sitting at 331. Now I am 3 weeks post op I am weighting in at 306...I am so proud of myself and know that this is my second chance and having a healthy life. I am truly bless to be at this point in my life and knowing that I have a wonderful support group at home makes it worthwhile.

    Iron infusion

So I'm on an iron supplements and getting ready to have an infusion next week. I'm already using miralax for constipation and am worried it won't be enough while I'm doing the infusions. Any suggestions on what to take in addition?
  24. Hi everyone I am new to the forum and I just had the sleeve done on the 23rd of September. I have already lost 30pds. The surgeon said it was a little fast to lose so much in just a few weeks but im not one to lay around after surgery. The body is meant to move. One thing I have learned and hopefully this will help some of you look at food differently to avoid trying to eat what your not supposed to. Think of how much we took advantage of food when we where able to eat whatever we wanted which made us obese to begin with. Now that we cant have everything we would like to have it makes you appreciate what you can eat alot more. Those foods we used to eat where our fun days and now its time to better our health and life even though its hard but dont give up. Hope to talk to all of you soon and be able to read your experiences.
  25. I'm on day 7 of my 2 week liquid diet and I'm finding everything is running through me. I don't have a gallbladder so this has always been an issue but it's amped up a notch on this liquid diet, did anyone else experience this?
