  1. I had my bypass on Sept 1-the reason for choosing this over sleeve was gerd stage 3, previous ulcers and fatty liver disease, stage 2. Gerd was a huge factor for which one to have but they were also very concerned for my fatty liver going to nash and found the bypass to be the quickest way to give my liver a chance to begin reparation, if possible. My biopsies confirmed it and my last fibroscan with labs already showed reduction to stage 1 and repair of the scarring. Gerd still there but not as bad to swallow now with an ability to breathe much, much easier now. Still belching a lot (3 months post-op) but I had a pretty bad case of it and Doc says to give it at least 6 months. They also still have me on heavy 'zoles' (Panzaprazole and omniprazole both for now).

    Just starting..

Good Morning and welcome to the forums. They were a Godsend to me before I had my surgery because they answered so many of my questions. I hope we'll be helpful to you as you go through your Weight Loss Journey. Which surgery? Okay, I thought I wanted the big one, the bypass, thinking I'd lose more weight and it'd be less "permanent" than cutting off part of my stomach for the sleeve. But my primary care doctor and my psychiatrist advised me that they opinion was that the bypass was "too radical" for my size (260 lbs) and so I opted for the sleeve. I'm very happy with the sleeve. It restricts my ability to overeat. That being said, it's a personal decision and you'll have to research all your options to find the one that you're the most comfortable with. In terms of losing 15 lbs, your bariatric office will assign you a nutritionist and he/she will give you guidelines but they are basically < 1500 calories/day, 60 g protein/day, 64 oz water/day, limit carbs and sugars and salts.

Did you do gastric sleeve or the gastric bypass? I just got word that I was approved for the surgery and that I have to decide between the 2 them. You look amazing! Sent from my G60 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Hi, I'm new to this. Today I just got the call that I've been accepted into molina's bariatric program. Lots to do within the 6 month period! I'm trying to decide which surgery would be the safest way to go and less invasive gastric sleeve or gastric bypass?? Also does anyone have any tips on losing the 15 lbs required for the surgery? 11. Hello everyone, I am 2 weeks post-op for my bypass. I have lost about 30 pounds since my pre-op diet and am feeling really good right now. I am much more comfortable in my own body from just 30 pounds! Only 150 more to go! 😄😆 I had nausea the first day after the operation, but none since. I did have excess gas and some diarrhea (no pain involved) but GasX and Benefiber have helped with that. I have some pain on my lower right side where the main incision was which they said was normal. That pain has gotten a lot better. Going to see my surgeon tomorrow and pick up the vitamins. I will start pureed today with cottage cheese. Has anyone heard "Anything is pureed if you chew it enough" ? Is that advisable? So far, so good. I have not cheated a bit and I hope my healing continues to go well. I got a selfie stick to take before pics, even though I'm a little late with that, but I want to remember what I looked like and most of all how I felt, physically and emotionally. What questions did you ask at your first post-op appointment? I ask because I always seem to leave something out at the doctor. I wish you all well!
  12. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. Do you have to qualify for a revision like you do for original surgery (40 BMI, etc.)?
  13. Hi all! I’m new here. I finally got my surgery date and I’m very excited. I had rny in 2002 lost 175lbs and then after I had my daughter gained it all back in 10years. My surgeon says my pouch is fine but the opening to my intestines is big so good just flows through. I’m ready to get this done so I can be active and healthy.

    Someone help me

let your surgeon's office know. You're in the right window for a stricture. Happens to about 5% of bypass patients. It's an easy fix. I had two of them - one at four weeks out and one at eight weeks out (they usually happen when you're between 1-3 months post surgery - and almost never happen once you're three months out). I'm not saying this is what it is, but those are the common symptoms, and again, you're in the right time frame for it.

  20. I could use a little help, I live in Minnesota and I’m having trouble finding a doctor or clinic that handles revision surgery. I was sleeved about 6 years ago and do to some ne meds I’m gaining weight back. If can make a suggestion on a doctor or clinic would be much appreciated. thank you Paul
  21. I lost the 20 in about 10 weeks and it was actually 22 lbs. I now bounce around 5 lbs but am having no problems keeping it in that range. With VSG I wasnt able to get under 164.8 and struggled to stay under 170. I am not having that problem with this revision, but am missing the restriction from the VSG.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Hi Crystal...what type of soft food are you trying? I had the mini bypass and the first week is liquids only, puréed food second week (and only as your body allows...sometimes it will take longer), third week soft food (again, only as your body will tolerate as it is healing) It hurts to think of putting food in my new tummy right now. I am day 4. I can imagine it would be hurting you. Try to go back to liquids...soup, popsicle, protein shakes (warm up the chocolate protein shake for hot chocolate). It sounds like your new tummy is angry.
  24. I had a gastric bypass in 2010. I was 32. I weighted 270 lbs. I had a few post surgery completed the first 2 years. I lost most of my weight in the first year. I have never gained any weight back. I currently weigh 138. I have had many ups and downs. If anyone needs advice I have plenty and willing to help! Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Tomorrow is the day for me! I go in at 12:30 PM. I’m having the worst cold feet!! I’m scared and struggling, I want the long term help this brings, but I’m afraid I’m going to fail. I’m afraid I haven’t changed enough. Like I said, major cold feet. I keep telling myself it’s going to go just fine and the bad days or minutes are just that and I’ll pick myself up and keep moving forward. My problem is I’ve thought that a million times before with other lifestyle changes and they didn’t work, obviously, I’m having surgery tomorrow. A part of me thinks, I can just do this myself, so silly!! After 20 years of doing this myself here are my results! Time to suck it up and follow through. I’ve been thinking about and started 3 other times to have gastric bypass. why the long post? Please my fellow travelers, help me be strong and follow through not just tomorrow, but all the days that follow!!! Hoping each of you are having success today wherever you are in this experience!!
