    I'm in the recovery room!

Hey! I didn't get any foot massages! Gees for $20K that's the LEAST they could do! 12 lbs in a week? Wow I hope we are a lot alike!
  2. Does anyone know if you can actually gain weight when you start increasing your cardio activity. Last week I really amped up my exercise, went from basically nothing one week to 2 times at the gym the following week, then the week after went to the gym 4 times, walked the dogs a bit and started back on Wii fit. My weight is up a couple pounds and I am getting really upset by it and I do WW and I have been staying within my points, so I know I am not overeating. I also thought maybe water retention, from working out and it being so hot out recently so I upped my water intake, but nothing. The only otpions I see is wait it out and see what happens or actually eat some more, I have heard that you may need to eat more points when you work out. What do you guys think? I need advice and opinions on this. TIA

    GPS and good as VSG?

I guess no one can really answer this unless they've had both procedures. I have had 2 WL surgeries; lapband and gastric plication. My restriction with plication is very good and quite different than with the band. I noticed it yesterday when I was eating chicken, I felt full in my stomach, not my chest. I used to get horrible, sharp pains in my chest and throat if I ate too much with the band. It is a huge relief to NOT experience that kind of reaction to eating. I also do not have any reflux, which was a big problem for me with the band. Acid reflux was actually a big concern for me and Dr. Billy before I had the plication as I experienced so much reflux with the band. I have been on Pepcid since the day of my surgery and I'm sure this has helped. I think I'm doing great with the plication but as "they" say WLS, any WLS is a tool. I have to do my part to make any surgery work. I exercise daily and eat "right" most of the time but you have to be confident in your decision. I think everyone who had plication considered VSG, I know I did, however, I just couldn't get over the idea of 85% of my stomach being removed. If plication didn't exist I would have most likely done the sleeve if I could have gotten over that idea. I also spoke with 2 different doctors who do not like the sleeve and feel there is too much risk associated with the cutting of the stomach so that made me nervous. I chose the surgery that was best for me at the time, that may change later but right now I'm very happy with the plication and I've lost 23 pounds in a little over 3 weeks! genepha

Research, research, research. When I started I was convinced that Lap-Band was for me. But when I heard about the sleeve I reconsidered. Three things swayed me to the sleeve. The first is that when I look at plastic, I have a really hard time thinking that it is going to last 50 years without degrading... and since I hope to live to 80, that's a problem. Another issue I had with the idea of the Lapband was that it can malfuction 20 years down the road. I wanted something that once I was healed, there weren't going to be possible problems in the future. The final issue was financial. With Lapband, you have to go in for fills and unfills pretty often. At $50 a visit for a copay, that adds up. In the end you have the make the choice that you can be happy with. Good luck!
  5. My surgeon requires 3 weeks of striaght liquids pre op and then two weeks post op. 5 weeks only liquids. I understand your frustruation. Trust me. I'm on day 1.
  6. The first three days are the hardest. After that it really does get easier. Also, make sure to drink a lot. sugar free Jello can be a nice treat.
  7. My doctor didn't require any pre-op diet, just Clear liquids the day before surgery. I went 2 weeks ago to sign my consent to surgery and have some questions answered and have my weight taken. Well, today I went in for a post-op check up (to have the doctor check my incisions) and I've already lost 11.2 pounds!!! I'm so so excited! I knew that I had lost some weight, but 11 pounds, I couldn't believe it. I feel even more motivated to get my butt up and moving. I know it's mostly Water weight, but heck I can't remember the last time I lost 11 pounds.

    8/14 3 days post op

Surgery went fine, instead of narcotics they gave me a marcaine pump to keep me numb. Took it out a day early because of leakage but so far I have had no pain. Not getting too terribly hungry. I weighed today and lost another 11 lbs which brings me to 27lbs over 2 weeks.

    Sipping

I am 2 weeks Post surgery....still continuing to sip anything liquid. Is this going to be a forever thing? Will ever be able to drink normally?
  11. Most people at work don't know I have LapBand. Those are the ones who ask: "How much have you lost?" "I don't generally discuss the numbers. I keep it private." "But it must be a lot! How much?" "Yes, it was a lot." "No, really, how many pounds? 30?" "A bit more than that." (I had lost 120 the last time I was asked this last week in the ladies' room.) "Gotta run! Bye!" JustWatchMe

    Changing My Attitude

Glo aren't you only 2 weeks out? I had my surgery 4/15 and tomorrow marks 3 weeks for me. Your progress and attitude even better!!! Your are doing great!!!
  13. Today I am officially three weeks out from my surgery date of 4/21. I've had my share of ups and downs but I need to do a 360 and change my mindset about my expectations for myself for the rest of my life. the only way to change our circmstances is to change the way we view them. If you wish to have positive result from evne the worse situtaions in life you must be able to view them optimistically. Starting today I am optimistic that I will meet my Protein requirements everyday, I will follow my NUT's diet plan to the letter, only progressing to new and different textures of food when it is safe to do so. I will walk two miles everyday until I get back up to my five miles per day that was my norm when I was fit and healthy, and I will no longer complain. Since I first began this journey in February weighing in at 305 lbs I have lost 32 lbs, today I weighed myself and I am down to 263lbs. I should be celebrating, happy, estatic to have lost so much weight in such a short amount of time after trying unsuccessfully for years to lose 20 lbs. Today I move up to pureed foods so yesterday I prepared my grilled salmon and pureed it along with some sweet potatoes and lima Beans (not all together of course). I portioned it all out and put it in ice trays to have it handy when I am ready for a meal. It's 12 noon and I am not hungry but I'm going to sign off and have my lunch now. This morning I prepared my Protein Drink, 8 oz. with Lactaid milk and half of a banana and I drank the entire glass with no nausea, I've already had 24 oz of Water which was never a real problem I love drinking ice cold water but immediately after surgery it was difficult. I'm changing the way I look at WLS and I am grateful for this intervention. I will still share my concerns and questions but I promise you I have nothing to be negative about. I feel my good health and energy slowly returning and for me this is reason to give thanks to God for knowledge and wisdom and to feel good about myself and my life from this day forward. God bless each of you and I pray that we all will find our happy medium and allow it to flow into each day of our lives filling us with hope and inspiration!!!

My Brother has Myasthenia gravis too, it started in his late twenties. So far he has managed it quite well with steroids and it only affects his eyelids and vision when he becomes over-tired. I am sorry to hear you suffer from it too. I am having sleeve surgery in 2 days time. I made the decision to have the sleeve after my surgeon informed me what would happen if food ever got stuck in the lap band. He described how a vomitting fit would occur and continual retching, and you must go to your nearest Emergency room immediately. He described how it was something that definately happens, and usually on the weekends or when his patients are enjoying themselves (on holiday etc) because they are not keeping their mind on chewing the food as required after having these surgeries. (And for this reason he removes his patients band Fluid when they are holidaying in places without A1 hospitals). Whereas he told me that with the sleeve, for the same easy mistake of not chewing food properly, you will know about it with terrible discomfort. (Like you swallowed a cornchip without chewing it) but it is not an emergency room situation. You may need to lay down or take it easy until it passes... that for me, along with the less dietary restriction that the sleeve offers made me decide it was for me. I have two small children and I couldn't put them through a frightening experience like that, just for a simple mistake. I am sure next week I will have points when I think I should have stayed obese rather than either choice, but in the long run we have all got to do what we are comfortable in doing. Best wishes to you
  15. Today I had my 7th weeks follow up, all went great, I can now eat everything in portion size, this journey is no joke Someone told me that I took the easy way out but they don't know the struggle in this journey. Food Funeral

Since I was in the process for over a year,,I had many food funerals. And then I would diet to make up for it,,back and forth I did this and it was so unhealthy. In the end I was just a few pounds up from my original weigh in but still,,I could've really blown it. I would not recommend alot of last suppers. Maybe plan 3 nice dinners where you don't really limit yourself..but be very careful the rest of the time. Just a suggestion but you don't want to have to lose even more weight after you are sleeved..or risk getting surgery cancelled because they think you aren't trying. I was freaking out the last week before my last clinical with the surgeon. I didn't want him to see me a ton heavier than when I began.

    Food Funeral

I'm going through this right now. Since my BMI is on the low side, I only have to do the three days of liquids, nothing else. The surgeon said not to worry if I gain weight before my surgery, which is, yikes, three weeks away! I've been eating a ton, and not all stuff I like, just eating to eat. Not good. It reminds me of why I NEED the sleeve.

    Food Funeral

I had my food funerals for 2 weeks. I was selective in what I ate but over those two week periods, I ate what I wanted. I don't think that I gained but maybe 1-2 lbs but I lost it when I went on all liquids.
  19. All these people are talking about working out I am having a hard time making it through work awake I am wiped out

Hey there Juan:) The liquid diet really bites doesn't it? And I know it will be a long 3 weeks. I feel your pain. But this is the deal - if you don't have the stupid liquid diet, they won't give you the surgery. If you don't have the surgery you will stay in the place you are, which is wanting to lose weight and not having the success that you want. That's why you chose to go the surgery route. After you have your surgery you will completely morph into a whole new person (on the outside anyway). Just think of how you'll look in a few short months post op! It's gonna be awesome. .It sucks to have to do the liquid diet. I know that very well. But you gotta! You can do this. And if you need an understanding ear in the meantime you can find it right here. Hang tough and fight the good fight:)

    4 months Post-op

I had my first fill a month post op, and my second one a month after that and my 3rd one 2 weeks after that but only because I called them and told them I was making very poor food choices and I didn't think the fill was working. I am scheduled for an appt. on 3/21/2011 and will probably get another fill then. Good Luck to you and stay positive - remember the band is a tool for weight loss NOT a solution -you have to work at it every day - both mentally and physically.

Very early, but I have begun!

Congrats!! It is exciting! I was approved 2 weeks ago and received my date Tuesday! I'm being sleeved on April 14th!!! Exciting times!!!
  23. I was the same way. Couldn't move from bed until 7 weeks. It gets better. Promise.
  24. My Doc put me on a 2 week Pre-Op liquid diet. It has been really tough but I have almost done a full week. :clap2: I jumped on the scale today and I have lost 20 Lbs in 5 days! I was just wondering if anyone else had similar results with their Pre-Op diet. Thanks everyone!
  25. Saw another post about this (actuallt it was about the 5 day pouch test) and it brought up more questions for me: Is our new stomachs stretchable and if so, will doing like 7 to 10 days of liquids bring us back to the restriction I once had? I've read both that u can and can't stretch ur stomach. I've read that since we don't have an actual pouch, the test won't work on us. I've also read that u CAN stretch it and a time of liquids can bring u back (even tho scientifically it sounds impossible that u can shrink the stomach by doing just liquids). If we could shrink our stomachs so easily, why would we have 85% of our stomachs removed in the first place. After a 4 mth stall (I eat the wrong foods in small portions but notice myself becoming hungrier and eating more) I decided to try 7 to 10 days of liquids only to give it a shot (altho I haave doubts that it'll work). Started yesterday. Drank Protein shakes and tomato Soup and literally starved. Coulda eaten my arm yesterday. When I read a couple posts about the liquid diet being unneccessary, I rethought my diet. Then I got on the scale. Lost 3 lbs. Haven't seen the 140's since getting married 2 yrs ago (after which my lapband slipped and I gained 34 lbs). So now I'm a little undecided on what to do. I'm pretty stoked about the loss. My plan is to get to my goal weight (most likely 135-140) and then Ill be able to easily maintain it with my portion control. I've been able to maintain my current weight for 4 mths fairly easily. Not sure what to do now. Advise? And yes, I know I'm sposed to track my food, protein first, lots of Water. So plz don't just give that advise....
