I'm going to agree to disagree.... This surgery is an opportunity to retrain the stomach and introduce healthy food back... It's about making lifelong changes that can be sustained, sorry but two Protein shakes and a yogurt aren't going to be a way to eat for the rest of your life nor would it be healthy... 500 -600 calories a day is not much at all... 1000-1200 seems more in a healthy zone... I congratulate you on your weight loss... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Either one is fine, use both. I believe the light and fit (it's Dannon) has less fat (which I really dont care about tbh) and 7g sugar is nothing to fret over when you are only getting about 500-600 calories a day. My Protein shakes were nearly 30 grams a pop, so 2 of those pretty much took care of requirements, plus 12g more for the yogurt. I have had no trouble meeting protein goals at any phase of the diet. I lost over 20% of my excess weight in the first month and my fasting blood sugar dropped from 150+ to 89. It's still 89. This surgery was the best idea ever.

Maybe I will try that. Although I am beginning to think it may be the yogurt. I went to the movies today and instead of the delicious yummy smelling popcorn  I got a mcdonalds fruit and yogurt parfait and had it during the movie and I noticed the gas then too. Maybe I will try and skip the yogurt or eat it by itself and see if it happens again. But it is good to know I am not alone in this, I hope it goes away soon. -
Sore Around Lap Band Port Site

Thanks for all of the information. I am so glad that I found this website to answer some questions I have as I go through this. To answer your question cutecamille, I am on the full diet right now. So I've been drinking protein shakes and eating creamy soups, yogurt, pudding, jello, juices and clear liquids. I'm finding myself getting hungrier now though. Good luck everyone -
I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal. I put 1/2 cup on top of my yogurt and strawberries.

When I have stress ( working with preschool teachers, parents, and the kids are the easy ones!) you bet my band gets tight! I then have to think about my diet choices. Often deli neat and cheese slices, soup, cottage cheese with yogurt, etc. really can range on tightness of my band each day...I'm 18 months banded.

I have vanilla hiney Greek yogurt with cottage cheese when band is tight.

one week out n starting to worry
determined4 replied to butterflyjen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was on the 4th and I'm having the exact problem! I want to eat some yogurt no fruit or cottage cheese or somehting soooo bad! It's true when I get a drink of something my stomach feels better and the hunger pains stop. But I want just one bite of something so bad! Funny just a few days ago, I thought ha I could do liquids forever and food did not appeal to me what so ever! But now that I'm feeling better, its a different story. Think I'll try some tomato soup and see if that helps hold me off of some mushy food! I wonder if we can have egg drop soup yet? I can't get my protein in either! They make me wanna throw up! Trying to last 6 more days then maybe some greek yogurt will help me get some protein and maybe a poached egg or avacado. -
Trouble finding a variety of foods I can eat well...
heather0407 replied to butterfly40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
try boneless skinless chicken thighs, they are a little more fatty than breasts but i can tolerate them pretty well! another favorite is plain greek yogurt, cool whip, some mashed fruit (usually peaches for me) and splenda or honey for a little sweetness. works great for any meal when your feeling tight but still has some great protein! tuna fish find a protien shake that you like. and Protein bars. i like cliff bars Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App -
Maybe more protein in the afternoon? Lots of water and tea and not looking at tv commercials helps me. I also keep one good yogurt or low cal single ice cream as a treat for the end of my day. Good luck and post how you are doing! We care! And yes. I still fight the demons at night. After 9 years. Sometimes I have to go to bed and give up on the day. Sometimes. Snacking wins. Just not as often!

Are you getting the sleeve or gastric? You might have said already. My pouches name is sassy gassy! [emoji12] we all name it at least the sleevers do. You are going to go through a lot of stages afterwards. Especially with constipation, emotional withdrawal from food, but when you have that moment in a clothing store because you need a few new cloths you will be having a moment that no one can take from you. I was very emotional, disconnected. I will never forget it. Now you have the frustration of I can't spend a lot because it won't fit four months down the road. Get to know your sale times at the goodwill, thrift shop. The night of your hospital stay. Go in PJ's bring an extra pair. Slippers because it sucks walking in socks. Bathroom stuff (toothpaste) bathrobe. I also brought my two favorite pillows and blanket. And walk constantly. I walked every hour and did laps. It helps with the gas and pain. I didn't bring a bra or anything I didn't give a shit. I lived in pj's for a week went to store and everything. I also was aloud to have full liquids 3 days after surgery. I made a shit load of Chobani frozen yogurt. All I did was add skim milk to it water it down and little tiny red cups and pop sticks and froze them. I would walk in the morning with a frozen yogurt. I made my own beef, pork, chicken broth (bone broth).. I froze it in little containers so I can just take it out add it to mash potato's or drink it. Post and pre-op. I made frozen jello and refrigerator jello. Also a pillow small one you can carry around because when you cough it hurts your tummy pressure with a pillow helps. Pillows to prop you up in bed. I have an adjustable I lucked out.

Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
MIZ60 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The average bariatric patient does not get a massive amount of anything. At almost 6 months out I use about 7 ounces of premiere protein shake daily in my coffee...you said before that you do this to. I do not eat protein bars, only an ounce or less of natural cheese a day, plain Greek yogurt maybe 3 times a month and have not had milk in over 6 months. I do take the recommended calcium citrate. Sorry but this particular rant is really crazy. Fat people are getting cancer because that eat massive amounts of dairy? Post a link to that study please, I would really like to see it and share with some of my friends at high risk for breast cancer due to family history. -
Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
Creekimp13 replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We do practice calorie control. From week three until goal...my calorie goal was 1000-1200 calories per day. We are encouraged to move liberally. Lots of daily walking and 30 minutes of cardio or resistance training 3 times a week. My particular diet allowes 75 calories of "treats" per day that can be banked for special occasions. I do eat meat. When I do, it's mostly chicken and fish. I very occasionally eat fresh red meat. I get more than half of my daily require protein from plant/carb bases sources. I eat 60g of protein per day. Because research strongly links cancer to dairy and processed meats, I avoid any form of deli/luncheon meat, whey shakes, whey protein bars, yogurt, cheese, milk. I occasionally eat these things in small quantities. I know bariatric patients who are getting 30%+ of their calories from these sources...and it's worth reviewing the research for your own safety. -
I am wondering about how long food stays in our stomach once we can eat real foods, not liquids and sliders, compared to a normal stomach. I read a normal stomach takes 4-5 hours to fully empty. I asked my surgeon’s nurse this and she had no answer. Also, can someone describe what their digestion felt like in the first 2 weeks. Should I feel lots of gas and acid with things like yogurt or cottage cheese?

PB-ing a few times a day, too tight, slowed weight loss...
Lauren448 replied to Lauren448's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Boos, Crystal, Stephanie and Cathy... thanks so much for the feedback. As far as chewing well enough - agreed, I sometimes forget to chew as well as I should, but really for the most part, I have no other choice if I want to get something down. I think it is very telling when you are PBing on YOGURT and other soft foods - so chewing may not always be the issue. The juicing idea sounds good for nutrient intake, but it doesn't sound like something we should consider for the long run and in place of "real" food. This journey should really be a lifestyle change we can live with and that should include being able to eat solid foods to stay healthy. After reading your posts and living with this for the past couple of months, I realize I should call my doctor and schedule an unfill... even if it's only a half of a cc. I am getting so frustrated - depressed really - over not being able to eat real foods and swallow normally. It's not uncommon for me to have to stop my car sometimes to throw up on the roadside with something I just can't swallow or digest. Now that's kind of ridiculous and is good cause for me to reconsider how tight I am. So, the reason I am eating some junk food is because it actually goes down and I need to have the feeling of actually swallowing food sometimes! I do realize that sometimes the PBing gets worse when I forget to chew, take too big of a bite, or eat that extra forkful - but it's happening too often now and it can't be good for my health or esophagus. Time to get into see my Dr. and have a little taken out. Thanks again for the great advice! All the best to all of you. I'll keep you posted. -
I'm on all liquids still, my kids are home eating popcorn by the truck full. It is driving me crazy. I grabed a hand and was eating it til my husband notice hit it out of my hand. He yelled "liquid- not popcorn!" I had to go hide in my room so I won't steal any more popcorn. I want my post op visit to be soon then it is 1/5 so maybe get a fill. , scared that I won't. Can't wait to kids go back to school and stop munching on everything. I wanted to eat thing today I don't even like, just to I could chew I think. I ran to store and got more greek yogurt and ate it very slowly. Hang in there we got this!

I am in the mush stage also, I use my food processor a lot and find the Starkist Tuna Salad packets to be a pre-made mush for times when you are out and about. I also do a lot of yogurt, chicken pureed with tomato sauce and things like that. I don't love the look of most of it, but it's just 2 weeks then I am on to soft foods!

How Many Calories Is Everyone Eating At Mushy Stage?
mdefabio replied to Prissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you can eat deli meats like turkey and chicken breast, low sodium ham, american and munster cheese. Mashed potatoes, soup, pudding, yogurt, ricotta, cottage cheese. -
Yes, hang in there I am in week three and I can think of all kinds of things to eat but I won't I love cheetos. I have found that popsicles and pudding and yogurt are my best friends when I have those sweet fits and the cheesy fits. So, just talk yourself thru it and find another out and a healthier craving.

Sojo and others gave you some great advise. Nighttime snacking is one of my hurdles. I snack out of boardom. If I watch tv I feel I need to eat, plus the commercials don't help. So, I try to do other things instead of tv. I exercise, go in my sewing room and sew, get on LBT, you get the idea. This works for me most of the times. When I do need sweets I eat a Protein shake popsicle (premade chocolate Protein Shake poured into popsicle mold & freeze, makes 6 popsicles) or I just discovered Yasso frozen greek yogurt bars, come in strawberry, raspberry & blueberry, all are yummy. These Snacks have the protein we need plus they are sweet. Good luck, I know you can do this!

Anyone out there with a sweet tooth!?!
Alexandra replied to Bright's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Bright, It's really hard to kick a sweets habit cold-turkey, so I'd suggest you not even try. My poison of choice in the sweets department is ice cream--which, thank goodness, is mushy so I didn't have to go without for long. Too much of anything creates cravings for what one is avoiding, I find, so my goal is balance. Protein first doesn't mean I can't have a small dish of frozen yogurt for dessert, if I want it. I'd imagine a WW-type "points" system would work just fine post-band if you assiduously take care to get in all your protein. Remembering that the quantity you can ingest will have been cut in half or so, you'll have to make choices based on nutritional priorities rather than just what your taste buds want at a given moment.
