THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
AnnieD78 replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Trying not to feel defeated but it’s hard! I’ve lost slowly right out of the gate. HW was 285 in August , currently 218. surgery was 8/14. I have had zero complications, have felt pretty darn good from the start. Always met my protein and water goals. My dietician wants me to up my calories to 1200 a day, which I have been able to do sporadically. I was on a 3 week stall but just lost 1.6 lbs. She also does not care about carbs. She’s like... eat them. Wants me to reach around 90g of protein and 125 g carbs. I started at orange theory fitness (high intensity interval training) and have been going 3x a week. They are hour long classes and my average calorie burn is 450 per class. They are very difficult. When I started this I wanted to be 180 lbs. that is still 30 lbs higher then “normal” BMI. Now I just want to get below 200. Will it happen for me??? It’s just so frustrating bc it seems like for some people the weight just melts off. I guess this shouldn’t be a surprise bc by the time I decided on surgery, and after a lifetime of yo yo dieting I had a hard time losing even 10 lbs. -
Has anyone started crossfit or similar class

This has been a source of heart ache ever since my gastric bypass surgery on August 14, 2019. Right out of the gate I was losing at a slower rate then average And definitely slower than a lot of the folks here or in other Facebook communities. My starting weight was 285 and this morning I weighed in at 2:18.4 pounds. I am 5’6” and 41 years old. Since the beginning I have met all protein goals and on fluid goals and I have had zero complications from the surgery. All in all I live a pretty normal life considering I had my insides rerouted. Starting in January I added Orangetheory fitness to my regimen which is an hour long HIIT class. I go three times a week and It’s hard. Like very hard. I burn on average about 450 cal per class. My dietitian wants me to be around 1200 cal right now especially since I added the workouts. I have had starches and grains and that makes me nervous because I’m a lifelong dieter but my dietitian has zero concerns about carbs. Obviously she wants me to to be making healthy choices around carbs like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, etc. which I do. When I asked her point blank about carbohydrate goals for the day she said 125 g. I’m just feeling a little defeated this morning. I am almost 6 months out from surgery and was definitely hoping to be below 200 pounds right now and now I’m wondering if I’ll ever get below 200 pounds. I guess I just am looking for support or stories of people have gone through similar rate of loss and have continued and meet their goals. My doctor told me at six months it becomes much more difficult to lose weight. But for me it’s Felt hard since the beginning.I used voice text to write this so I apologize if anything sounds crazy.

Surgery 1/9- localized pain in lower tummy
SINISTER replied to Liz2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering this same thing. I had surgery on 1/10 and had very little pain afterwards. Suddenly over the last 2 days I've had a hot burning pain below and to the right of my belly button. It hurts worse when I'm sitting vs standing and walking. Feels like I've torn something or a hernia but I don't feel anything protruding. -
December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
Valancourt replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was on 12/23/19 and its been slow going, just plugging away at getting enough protein and water. Winter here is perfect for going nuts with lots of soups though, so that's fun. -

If Steri-Strips are used to close or support an incision then they should fall off in about a week or so. If they are still in place after 10 days, usually it is safe to be removed by the patient, unless the healthcare provider has said not to, as some wounds might need more time to heal properly. -
Pacemaker/Defib woman considering sleeve?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to meryls's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don’t have a pacemaker but I do have a heart valve defect and had my sleeve done in December 2019. If you have questions definitely talk to the surgeon you want doing it as they’ll have you more than likely be cleared by your cardiologist for surgery anyway. I know it’s not exactly what you were looking for but I hope it helps. -
I think that you should give your dr a call in the morning. I wasn’t allowed to lift over 10 pounds until 2 months out. Hopefully you will be fine since you are so close. Since you felt some pulling and pain you should call dr to be sure.

Weight history requirements?
AZhiker replied to BigSue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have BCBS of TN. You can have a BMI of 35 as long as there are comorbidities. For me, it was sleep apnea. Go on their web site and look up the requirements, There are 3 pages. One for the psych to fill out, one for the surgeon, and one for the PCP. There is a 6 month supervised weight loss requirement with the PCP. My PCP was wonderful. SHe documented everything that was required - previous attempts at weight loss, current plan - like using smaller plates and all other efforts. She documented everything for 6 months, (you cannot miss a month or you start all over), and even though I did not lose a lot during that time, there was no problem getting me qualified. I dont thing BCBS even cares if you actually lose much - you have to lose a little bit, but if the documentation shows that you are making a good effort and still cannot lose 10% of your body weight, you quality. The wording is tricky. That is why you must print it out and read it over and over until you understand all the ins and outs of it. Now, here is something to remember. BCBS will indeed pay for the surgery, pre op labs, and all that is associated with the surgery. HOWEVER< after the surgery, they don't pay for anything. So follow up appts, lab work, etc are not covered......... IF they are coded as "bariatric, obesity, overweight", etc. Labs need to be coded as "malabsorption, iron deficiency, chronic inflammation, etc - anything EXCEPT something that refers to the surgery or obesity. I got a bill for almost $1000 for my 6 month labs! I am having the office recode and resubmit. Just read everything carefully and make sure your PCP is on your side and has experience in getting these surgeries approved. -

I’m from the south- we never know what we will get in winter! The saying is- don’t like the weather then wait 10 min! -
I recently decided to start the process of getting weight loss surgery. I have an appointment for an initial consultation with a surgeon later this month. I’ve been trying to figure out the insurance requirements (BCBS of Tennessee) for covering my surgery, and I know the standard requirements of having a BMI over 40 and maybe having to do a 6-month supervised diet program, but I’m having a hard time finding any information on some of the other details. My biggest concern is that I’ve seen some people here mention a requirement for documentation of weight history. I have been morbidly obese all my adult life, but I rarely go to doctors. I went to get a checkup and bloodwork a couple of months ago, but before that, I hadn’t been to a doctor in 7 or 8 years, so I basically have no documentation of my weight history. I don’t even have many pictures of myself because I am careful to avoid being in pictures due to embarrassment about my weight. What is typically required for weight history documentation? Also, I’ve been on all kind of diets (Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, Slimfast, Cabbage Soup, calorie counting, etc.), some of which were given by a registered dietitian, but they were a long time ago, in my teens/early 20s. I stopped doing fad diets over 10 years ago because I realized that yo-yo dieting always resulted in regaining everything I lost and more. So, I’m also worried that I won’t have sufficient documentation of my previous dieting efforts. It took me a long time to get to the point that I feel not only that I need weight loss surgery, but that I am ready to put in the work and make the changes that I will need to make, but I’m afraid that I’m going to have to wait years for my insurance to approve the surgery just because I don’t have official records of my weight and diet history. I know my surgeon’s office will have to get the details from my insurance company, but I’d really appreciate any info anyone can give me so I know what to expect. Thanks!

Yesterday Saturday, Feb 1 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1.25 yr PO Sleeve / 116.9 lbs ---------------------------------------- Was a total lump on a log yesterday. I was so completely exhausted, I was literally falling into 20 minute naps. Spent most of the day either sleeping on the couch or on my laptop on the couch listening to the TV. Was doing ok food wise until about 2am when we raided the kitchen. Wasn't even hungry. Just bored and impatient for tennis to come on. Paid for it with a serious case of stomach cramps, pooping and death feelings. Did anyone go crazy before pre op diet started?
DB in AZ replied to kg2519's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I start my pre op diet next Saturday. I have done very well on the three month period losing about 10 pounds. For the next week I plan to go to my favorite Thai and Italian restaurants as well as make some really good meals: steak and potatoes, creamy casseroles, etc. During the liquid phase I will make some meals up for my husband for later as well as some soups that I can puree when I get to that stage. -
You can’t have meal replacement shakes on clear but you can have clear protein drinks like Dymatize Iso100 clear https://www.amazon.com/Dymatize-Protein-Isolate-Friendly-Absorbing/dp/B07XZTF3C4/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1T1MFPD7IFH72&keywords=clear+protein+drink&qid=1580656033&sprefix=Clear+pr%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-10 or premier protein clear (I recommend tropical punch) https://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-Clear-Tropical-Bottle/dp/B07B9DYMTX/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1T1MFPD7IFH72&keywords=clear+protein+drink&qid=1580656033&sprefix=Clear+pr%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-4 or isopure clear, which costs more but is twice the protein https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Isopure-Ready-Drink-Lemonade/dp/B079HYGR7Y/ref=sr_1_27?crid=1T1MFPD7IFH72&keywords=clear+protein+drink&qid=1580656374&sprefix=Clear+pr%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-27 I suggest mixing with a little ocean spray 5 calorie juice, I like the grapefruit flavor. That’s also a good clear drink in between the protein or as I said mix it for taste. I personally had a hard time tolerating the clear protein especially straight up. im surprised you didn’t get a clear liquid list. Bone broth is great for clear liquids. You can have decaf coffee or tea but no milk. Jello. I personally don’t recommend crystal light but some people do. best of luck to you

INGREDIENTS 1 tablespoon unsalted butter 2 teaspoons minced garlic 2 cups cooked chicken shredded 1/2 cup Frank's Original Red Hot Sauce 8 oz (250g) g block cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup sour cream 1/2 cup white Cheddar cheese freshly shredded 1/4 cup American cheddar freshly shredded 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional to serve) 2 teaspoons green onions, sliced ( or chives) Celery sticks carrot sticks, tortilla chips, crusty bread pieces, potato chips, for serving INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange oven rack to the middle of your oven. In an 8-inch cast-iron skillet (or an ovenproof pan), melt the butter over medium-high heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant (30 seconds). Add the chicken and hot sauce and simmer until sauce has thickened and reduced by half (about 2 minutes). Reduce heat to low and stir in cream cheese; mix until combined. Take off heat, stir through sour cream and top with both cheddar cheese(s) over the top. Bake until bubbling around the edges and the cheese has melted (about 10 minutes). Broil (or grill) for a further minute to brown on top. Immediately garnish with blue cheese and green onions. Serve with vegetable sticks, chips, crusty bread pieces for dipping. NOTES If you don't have a cast-iron skillet or oven-proof pan: prepare all ingredients as per recipe instructions above in a regular pan on the stove. Then transfer buffalo dip to a 1-quart (1-litre) baking dish. You can use rotisserie chicken. Don't like blue cheese? Feel free to omit it. Halve the hot sauce amount for a milder dip. Add more hot sauce for spicier dip. NUTRITION Calories: 306kcal | Carbohydrates: 2g | Protein: 19g | Fat: 27g | Saturated Fat: 10g -

You can get a band replaced or repaired but most people that have this done do not find it as effective as when they were banded initially. It is now believed that the safe useful lifespan of a band is between 10 -15 years. They are not the damage free option that they were once thought to be and have fallen massively out of favour. Some exbandsters get revised to a sleeve but this has its own set of issues that can be exacerbated by having had a band previously. The revision of choice is generally to a Roux en Y gastric bypass. That sounds horribly scary until you do more research . I had my revision in Jan 2018 and couldn’t be happier. To me the rny does what the band was marketed as being able to do but never really did. I eat small portions of healthy food and am satisfied. No more being stuck, no more nights out wasted in the bathroom because my first bite of food got stuck. No more horrible feeling of pressure in the chest, when I’m full I feel it like a “normal” person would

The schedule is controlled by the insurance company. I live in a rural area and my doctor/hospital is 2 hours away in another state. They allowed me to attend support groups that were local and scheduled all my medical appointments on the same days (pulmonologist, Endocrinologist, surgeon, dieticians etc. the time frame for mine was 1 year...they were not flexible about that at all. I had my Bypass on 12/11/19 and finally feeling normal. I have not had insulin since the day of surgery. -
This is excellent, especially the second link you referenced. I’ve been struggling, but I think I’m just over anxious to start long distance running again (I used to before surgery). However, I just don’t have the calories to support it right now, so I keep crashing. I have 10 pounds left, then I’ll start focusing on fitness goals more, because I can up my calories. I think I have also been too all or nothing about this - a 30 minute run a day is just fine right now, until I can build it up. Anyway, thanks for the helpful links, I’ve been getting frustrated.
