Help!! restricted in morning have to drink hot liquide to get opened
Aquameliza replied to zsbt42's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Me too. It gets better as the day goes and hot liquid in the morning feels good. I keep trying breakfast - some mornings I can keep down a tiny - I mean, like a tablespoon of scrambled eggs - but it is a waste. I was thinking of trying slimfast for breakfast a little later in the day as I do get really hungry in the morning. By lunch, I can take some soup VERY slowly, but I am usually ok for dinner as long as I follow the rules about protein first, sloooow eating, tiny bites and chew, chew chew. I just got a fill last week to get me here. I think I took to long to get fills. I am up to 4.7 ccs in a 10 cc band. THIS is definately restriction! I really am not complaining as I have lost weight slowly (very slowly) up to now. I know that I will lose weight quicker with this restriction. -
Hello and welcome, I have had no problem with the lap band - however i haven't been at my sweet spot yet, i coasted for a while after initial weight loss then when i decided to get serious again I was following weight watchers. I have not put back on any weight that I have lost in a year which I think is absolutely thrilling. I intend to get to my sweet spot as I am going for a fill in a few weeks, had to partially defill prior to jaw surgery several weeks ago. I haven't been eating very much the last few weeks and have lost about 10 pounds so I'm not sure how the band impacts weight loss if one isn't eating - seems to be the same as without a band. good luck and hope you get more responses for support.

10 days post op and new pain developed
Lacoats69 replied to sam2003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, I so know what you are talking about. I had the pain too and had a horrible time sleeping due to not being able to even remotely sleep near that side...I had planned on taking a week off of work, however, it ended up being 2 weeks and I will still sore. I carry most all of my weight around my middle. Maybe that makes it harder to get the band in, thicker skin, which in return creates more pain. -
Ok, from the liquid stage to the mushy stage, is it normal to gain back a few pounds of lost weight? I figure it should be due to increasing your calories just a bit..heres what happened.. I was on liquids for a week and a half..lost 20 pounds. Went to mushies, and gained 2 pounds...is this normal? Perhaps im not watching the caloric intake as well as I should be. Ive only been on mushies for a weekend..but it scares me that Ive gained back 2 pounds. eep!

Is being fat the worse thing a person could be?
Sleeve_Sistah85 replied to Sleeve_Sistah85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I didn't mean to ignore the co-morbidities, it just seems that those of normal weight who judge harshly are not coming from that standpoint. Much like you Im 29, overweight and healthy. But I'm a healthcare worker and I realize that illness is inevitable if I don't lose weight. -
Texas investigating the jump from LP to VS
vicki s replied to Texgirly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good Luck Tex, I was banded in 6/08 and my doc approached me about switching to the sleeve also, i lost 104 lbs but then had a prolapse and gained 40 back even after the revision so last month on 11/1 I was converted to sleeve and have no regrets at all. i ve lost 12 lbs and i dont have that stuck feeling anymore, i can eat like a normal person now without all the drama of looking for the nearest bathroom at the restaurant. good luck on whatever you decided, and let us know, there is a wealth of information and support here, take advantage of it.....vicki:) -
Texas investigating the jump from LP to VS
Texgirly posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Howdy all! I was banded 3/08, so this March will be 3 years. I have lost a total of 50 lbs and kept off 35 of that - the gain had more to do with having to stop running - completely unrelated. I have an ultra sensitive band. In 3 years, I have never had more than 2cc in my band. And there has been drama finding that out. No hospitalizations, but one trip to the ER because what was we thought I had some sort of stomach flu and dehydrated, not realizing until I was pumped full of anti-nausea drugs that it was a band problem. Yesterday (after no fills for almost a year now), I went to see my surgeon because I had to have some taken out after two weeks of only being able to eat liquid foods - smoothies, Soups, etc. For the first time, he talked about switching to either bypass or sleeve. Sleeve definitely has my interest to say the least. I think is more frustrated with my band (not me) than I am. So, as I investigate, I may have a question from time to time. Looks like there are already plenty of topics to surf through to find what I am looking for. See you guys around the boards! Texgirly I am Sparkpeople under the same name, and LapBandTalk as well, but not active. -
Did you notice before surgery?
travelinsnorkel replied to auot67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard before that you need to retrain the people around you, but it is soooo true! I had a friend who never forwards me anything forward me this wonderful cookie recipe...they don't get it! Then, my Mom who is very supportive and lost a good amount of weight herself, asked me if I wanted to go to Cheesecake Factory with my cousin Sunday. She said I could eat ice cream or cheesecake while they eat dinner. I was like, first of all I can't eat those things and second of all I'm really not ready to go out to eat yet since I'm still in the mushy phase. I really didn't think I'd have to say anything to her, I thought that she would understand, but I guess I do! -
Wth Is Wrong With Me...? Lolbvs
Threetimesacharm replied to deltatrans44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you drink enough water. The more you drink the more you will release. I find it odd that you have not lost more. How many calories are you consuming? Try to stay around 500-700 calories eat only protein and take your vitamins. Don't worry about exercise, you will lose weight regardless. -
Don't give up! It will be worth it. Your doc is wrong. I have lost 120 lbs in less than a year. I would insist on getting back in to talk to your regular doc if there is a problem with the paperwork. You may also want to consider changing docs, since it seems the one you saw has little knowledge of the medical condition called morbid obesity and its current treatments. Shame on him! He sounds like the kind of guy, that if you go in with a rash or a sprained ankle, he's gonna tell you its because you need to lose weight! Some people, even doctors are biased against MO folks and can't see beyond it. Doesn't make for a very good doctor!

Either I'm Pregnant Or It's The Diet Soda
Bcole posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went on a trip for a week and got a little off track with my eating habits. I tried diet soda for the first time and have had about 4 since then. Of course I didn't each much, but all of the choices weren't the healthiest. When I got back on monday my weight was fine but now about 1 week after I have gained 4lbs. My weight has fluctuated for about 3 days from 245-241 (different everyday). So with that being said, either I'm pregnant or it's the trip catching up with me, either way it's BAD!! I'm really hoping that it's the bad eating though :-/ -
Throw your scales in the garbage, lol. I have just really started telling myself positive affirmations. I tell my body how much I love it and how proud I am of letting go of the weight and the scales started moving. I celebrate every pound now because I choose to believe that this time it is going to work and this time, it is not coming back. I am so proud of all of you guys. It took a big leap of faith to believe in ourselves to the point of having the surgery. I have began to celebrate everything. I celebrate my healing from the surgery. I celebrate that I don't have to take as much pain medicine. I got me a pedomiter that counts my steps and I walk as much as I can during the day and then celebrate at night that I did as much as I could. If you are anything like me, I spent years beating myself up that I couldn't do it on my own. I pray that God marks this journey with his own hands and guarantees my success. Each day I look at this as a mountain I am climbing. Sometimes it is hard to imagine looking at the view from the top but if I do what I can each day to imagine how glorious it is going to be to have the view after reaching the top, it makes it a celebration each time I take a step. So far today, I have lost 10 lbs from my preop starting point. I was banded this past Wednesday. My starting weight was 260m and this morning it was 253.4. Now my next goal is 252 and when I reach that goal (however long it takes), I am going to celebrate by allowing myself to be really happy about it. Write you out some affirmations and start telling your body how much you love it and it's ability to change and heal on it's own. Or, how proud you are of yourself and that you love how much it feels to be 8 lbs lighter. Look at what 8 pounds of butter looks like. You were once carrying that around and TaDa! it's gone. Write "I think I can, I think I can" on a sticky note and put it in your pocket or all over your house. Celebrate getting enough sleep and how much easier you can already move since surgery. You are doing great sunshine and every day and in every way, you are getting better, thinner, and stronger.

How much did you lose on your 2 week preop diet?
makemyownluck replied to amandalynn76's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I lost 16 in the first week. I'm in the middle of week 2 and haven't lost any. :\ very frustrating - especially since my liquid diet IS a liquid diet - no actual meals. I know what I lost the first week was mainly water weight. -
Well my band prolapsed... ugghhhhh... I gained back 20 pounds... we were able to fix the band and have been filled a couple of times, but my weight is stuck between 200 and 206 i had origanally got down to 185..... the struggle is much harder this time around...... getting a little discouraged.....

Has anyone ever had someone tell them they may be exercising too much? I have my band at 1.5 cc and am eating 3 small meals a day, and have had little weight loss recently. I had to have my band loosened last summer because I couldn't keep anything down, and while it was completely loose I ate like a pig and put all of my weight back on. It was only supposed to be loose for 2 weeks but my doctors kept cancelling my appointments because of scheduling conflicts, and I took FULL advantage of the 3 months that it was loose. Since October I've gotten back on track and have been exercising regularly....walking, jogging, biking, yoga, etc...usually 6-7 days a week, between 1-2 hours a day. I've made exercise #1...but its still soooooooo slow....I'm going in to the doc for the first time in a long while on Thursday and am nervous to see the number on the scale, scared that its going to throw me off track if its high. I think I'm going to get the band tightened a little bit to kind of shake things up...but my mother (who I love dearly) keeps telling me that she thinks I may be exercising too much for what I am able to consume. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have any ideas on how to throw yourself off a plateau? I live in Montana and it's currently REALLY cold (negative 25 this morning), so I've mostly been doing biking and yoga this week.......I just need some tips! Work out dvd's that anyone recommends, etc. There's no gym here, so I'm pretty much on my own! Any help or ideas is really appreciated, I'm so sick of having this gut back!

Congrats and WTG!! That is an awesome weight loss pre op. Welcome to the losers bench :-) -
I completed my first 6 mo of surgery without a fill and did very well losing weight on my own. At this point I feel I can eat too much and it is sheer will power that prevents me from eating. so i think it is time to get a fill and utilize the restriction portion of the tool. I am really nervous for a fill since I have never had one. Any advice on what to expect? Thanks all!!

Congrats on your weight loss, that is great!!

I was banded july 23, 2008 so I have another 20 something day it my 1 yrs. banded date. I'm hoovering around 160 lbs off with about 15 more lbs to go till my goal weight. Loving my band but finding it a little harder to lose any more weight. I lose the weigh than gain it back.

Happy 11 month Anniversary to me
tonya66 commented on tonya66's blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
Today makes 11 months since my banding. Scales have not went down, and have went up this month. Normally I would be sad, but I'm really not. I've not done good with eating the past month, I need a fill badly, so I'm okay with gaining 3 lbs. 3 lbs in a month is acceptable to me. Here is my updates on weight: Highest weight - 248 1 mo post op - 206.8 2 mo post op - 198 3 mo post op - 193 4 mo post op - 184.2 5 mo post op - 178 6 mo post op - 174 7 mo post op - 178 - went on vacation and ate big 8 mo post op - 174 9 mo post op - 170 10 mo post op- 167 11 mo post op - 170 - havent even been trying -
I get alot of " You dont look like you weight THAT much " . Im 5'4 and i weight 240 . Apparantly I carry my weight well according to everyone . I DONT See it. I have had a few people tell me " You dont need the surgery it you dont look like you weight that much " That gets frustrating . As for your DH . My dh went through alot of the same things, with me. A LOT OF his issues were lack of awareness about the band. Has he gone to a seminar with you ? Have you showed him info on how diets fail and end up putitng on MORE WEight than before the diet ? I also explained to him that the band was something I felt I could DO and succeed with . Diets were not "Doable" for me and That even exercise at this weight was painful. Eventually he came around . He's supportive now . Good luck . I have known for 2 yrs this is 100% what i wanted. Dont do it unless you know . Sure I still have doubts ( Im not banded yet ) But it passes and I get my determination back to get the surgery done NOW . LOL Good luck , I hope you figure things out Mindy
