Endoscopy Results Showed Polyps In Stomach - Anyone Else Have This?
Dallas_P posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my endoscopy last month. The procedure went really well. I saw somewhat fearing this procedure because I have a strong gag reflex. I was very pleased when they told me that I would be under general anesthesia and I went out like a light and woke up with no side effects from the anesthesia. When I woke up my doctor told me that they found 10 polyps in the stomach. They did a biopsy on one and fortunately it was benign. I originally was going to have the roux-en-y bypass procedure but changed to the sleeve instead because the doctor told me they like to closely monitor polyps and they can not do this with the roux-en-y procedure because they old stomach is sealed off and can't be entered into through endoscopy. So we had to resubmit to Cigna for approval and start the waiting game all over again. Good new is I got approved on July 3rd and will be having the sleeve procedure on July 31st. I decided as a precautionary measure to have a colonoscopy procedure as well which will be done on Monday July 7th. I figured if I have polyps in my stomach there is a strong probability that I will have them in my large intestine or colon as well. This is my first colonoscopy and I'll report back on Monday how it went. I was just curious whether other members have had polyps detected in their endoscopy as well and what they have done with them. Can they be removed during the VSG surgery? It sounds kind of crazy but I first started out thinking that I would have the sleeve but had some fear of losing such a large percentage of my stomach forever. Now that i know that I have polyps in my stomach I'm looking forward to having the sleeve hoping that most of the polyps will be taken out with the stomach and I'll start out again polyp free. My doctor told me that these polyps are relatively common but haven't talked to anyone that had them. He recommended an endoscopy every three years to track them. I think having the colonoscopy is a good idea for those who have had polyps detected. Has anyone else here had polyps detected as a result of your endoscopy procedure? -
I had RNY gastric bypass 8/1/16. For the first 4-5 months, I had CONSTANT nausea and vomiting. I was on a lot of antiemetics but finally, about 5 months out, that passed. I now only get sick if I eat/drink too quickly or too much

I’m back / Cold Feet

I think you have to be 100% ready for change. If you needed to pause and think about it, that’s great. Surgery is scary and change is scary. I had major doubts the morning of surgery but I told myself that was just anxiety and went through with it. Bypass was the BEST thing I’ve ever done for myself. You have the rest of your life to look forward to. -
I too have lost a ton of hair. I spoke with my doctor on friday and he said that when the body goes through trama (like rapid weight loss) you will lose hair. I asked if there was anything that could help, Protein, etc.... he said no. There is no medical evidence that anything will help. He said I could try stuff but he said it was a waste of money. I said well then, when will the hair loss stop? when I'm bald. He said when I stop losing weight the hair loss will stop. I know this is true for alot of gastric bypass people (my friends) and it has grown back...so that gives me hope. Hang in there and keep drinking / eating your protein...it can't hurt.

I cashed my retirement fund to get my band. I went thru all the emotions that exists once I made my decision. I felt exhilarated, doubted myself, had sudden thoughts of never being able to eat my favorite food, was I nuts in making this decision right up until I climbedon the op. table. It has now been one year. It took me 3 months to learn to slow down in my eating and not vomit. Now it is only occasionally. I look at what people eat in the restaurants and my mouth doesn't drool with hunger instead I am turned off by the volumes they eat. My eating tastes have definatley changed. If you want my thoughts, after numerous weight loss programmes of losing and then gaining it all back, the band is the only solution (unless you want a bypass). With the band though, it is reversable. Go for it and good luck.

Ok, I was saving two pair of jeans because they were like new, they used to be so tight I couldn't wear them. I was looking forward to be able to put them on. I got them out yesterday to try to see if they would fit, and horrors of horrors, they are too big!!! I couldn't even get them to stay up comfortably with a belt. I'm crushed because now they have to go to the good will and I didn't even get to wear them!!! Oh well, I suppose that is a good thing. People have finally noticed that I'm losing weight, one at church and one saleslady at work. I told them thank you and yes it is hard work. I've lost 45lbs and I know I should be proud of that but somehow doesn't feel like enough. I know that I shouldn't compare myself to others but sometimes it's hard not to get weight loss envy. I was sort of complaining the other day and my son said to me that even though I'm losing weight I still look good and healthy unlike two of his co-workers that had the bypass procedure, he says they've lost a lot of weight but look like they've been sick. So i guess that losing slowly isn't so bad as long as I look healthy. I'm off all BP meds now, and have reduced my diabetes meds in half, Doc says probably will be off all soon. I am waiting to go back for another sleep study to see if I can go off my CPAP, I can't wait to get rid of it. I have 4 lbs to go before I hit one-derland, I can wait I'm so close.... but probably another 2-3 weeks. Oh well, slow and steady....

I went to the appointment with Dr. Macik and then found out that Dr. Scott and Floyd Medical Center have been approved. My parents live in Rome and that would be so much easier for me. So I went to his seminar and really was impressed with him and his team. I have a consultation appointment and dietician appointment the middle of June. I will see what type surgery his suggests would be best for me. Dr. Macik advised to do the gastric bypass because of my diabetes and sleep apnea. How is it going for you? Have you decided on a doctor or hospital? Linda -
I was banded 10/04/11 and between then and August '12 lost about 40lbs. In November I had redness and pain in my port area and my surgeon put me on an antibiotic and the pain and redness resolved. Then about 3 different times between November and August, I would have pain in the port area that would go away the next day after applying heat. Finally, though, in August the pain would not resolve and taking extra strength tylenol did not touch the pain. My surgeon started me on pain medication and his office went to work trying to have a port revision covered through my insurance. I paid cash for my original surgery. After a month, I was finally scheduled for an EGD and possible port revision, but when the doctor did the EGD he learned that the band had eroded into my stomach around the buckle area. This was on a Tuesday and by Thursday I had the band removed and spent 5 days in the hospital. I am not going to sugar coat it, it was awful. I've had surgeries before but this was the most difficult. In fact, it's now 5 weeks later and I'm still dealing with a lot of pain. The surgeon said that this was a very difficult surgery that would require a long recovery. He also said that if I wanted to in about 6 months I could revise to the sleeve. I am extremely down about the whole ordeal. I am so tired of being obese. I have tried every diet/program out there and have not been successful to become thin and healthy. That is why I took such drastic measures in getting the lapband, I need help outside of myself. So, I don't know what to do now. The lapband surgery was difficult, the removal was even more difficult and to consider another surgery scares me. Thanks for "listening"...I just don't know what to do. =(

Just wondering whats everyones opinion on these options, which are more beneficial . Any help would be appreciated. Leaning toward sleeve.

Band Over Bypass?
Maddysgram replied to Arizonakimc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm choosing the LB because you can always have it removed, but you can't put your cutout stomach back. I do know if you're diabetic bypass cures it instantly, so that's why some people go that route. -
Bypass , sleeve, lapband?
catwoman7 replied to Rudedogg89's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
if your only issue is sleep apnea, you can probably go with either surgery. The surgeon will explain your options and let you know if he/she thinks one or the other might be more appropriate for you (I had GERD, so mine recommended bypass over sleeve) -
I am s band to bypass pt. I know the dos and don'ts my band is do fickle I threw up everyday for 8 months. .my DR kept telling me to chew better. Come to find out I was to tight.

Hi my name is Jason. My journey has been a long one. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I am tall, 6'5", so the weight seemed to slowly distribute itself all over. I have had high blood pressure since I was 15 and in the past 2 years was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I guess I was also a bit depressed at times, that I had let my life get this far out of control. Difficulty finding clothes, breaking chairs. Before I knew it, I had hit an all time high (or low, depending on how you look at it). My weight reached 412 lbs this past February. That was when I had decided I had had enough. Things needed to change. My father had passed a year before of heart attack and with the all of the problems I was developing, I needed to. Not just for myself, but for my family (beautiful wife and two adorable daughters). I have a couple of relatives who did the gastric bypass surgery and had good results so I looked into it. Going in to the decision, I was going to try to do the lap-band. The RNY seemed too drastic and to me didn't look like the thing for me to do. Not saying that it doesn't work for some people, just needed to find out more. I connected with the Memorial Weight Loss and Wellness Center in Springfield, IL. They are a multi-level support group based program. They have many different physicians, dietitians, psychiatrists, and physical therapists working together to ensure that you are well educated and are able to be successful in your journey. They showed me the different surgeries available to me, and got me pointed toward the gastric sleeve bypass. After about 4 months of preparing my mind for the lifestyle changes and my body for the eating changes, I was ready for surgery. On July 21, I was reborn. Surgery was a success. Recovery room experience was rough, but only because I had a bad pain med pump. Once they got that worked out, everything smoothed out. I was up and walking the same day as my surgery and checked out of the hospital in 3 days. It has now been 4 months since my surgery. It has been quite the journey. My sleeve is holding out. It is taking food and drink well. Not usually very well together. I am down to 307 lbs.. I am off of my blood pressure medicines and my cpap machine. I have more energy than I know what to do with. I feel great and I am beginning to look at myself in a more positive way. My body is starting to look more like a healthy persons. Anyway, that is my journey so far.

I was banded with plication in August 2012. I have had two fills so far. I have not lost any weight since November. I follow my diet, exercise etc. Now I am having pain in my stomach and left side around to my back. It gets worse when I eat. I went throught Dr. Wilkenfeld in Conroe and am finding out that he doesn't really care about you after your surgery. Is it too soon to consider another surgeon and possibly a revision to sleeve? Will another surgeon even see me? I wish I knew what I know now about him before using him and having the lapband. He talked me out of the sleeve and I wish I had just changed doctor's then.

Hello :frown: I just had my 1st consult yesterday. Im still trying to decide on which OP to get. Im leaning towards the Lap-band since it seems to be a less risky surgery with the same results as the bypass. Im sure I will have lots of questions but just wanted to say hello. Thanks Mark

No problems. Just want to make sure that I communicated that from what I have been told and personal experience there is no dumping syndrome with DS surgery. I did an experiment after my RNY to DS revision, I ate something that would have put me down garunteed for a half hour with dumping syndrome. Didn't happen. I don't miss dumping syndrome. For me it was like an intense flu that came on hard and fast. Sweating, nausea, the works. Lasted for me about half and hour to a hour depending on what I ate and how much. Now it just hurts to eat too much and the bowl thing is something I'm re-evaluating my diet and supplements to help with. If OP is experiencing something similar to dumping syndrome, then probably should go talk to the surgeon asap.

Well on Monday 7/30/07 @ 7:30 am my band is officially leaving me! I found out on 6/1/07 that I had a slip with some errosion and was trying to hold out for my insurance to cover a revision from Lap Band to RNY, but my stomach will not let me wait any longer. The reflux is so bad and the esophogitis is really painful even being on 3 different meds to try and help settle things for a bit (nexium, carafate, and reglan). My paperwork went in this afternoon for my revision surgery and it was a total joy to have to do EVERY little thing over from scratch again (cardio, psych eval, pulmonary, dietary, support group, endoscopy, colonoscopy, abdominal sono and primary care MD). So unfortunately I'm going to have 2 surgeries now :car: I'll probably have the RNY revision after 8/27 when I get my daughter settled into her freshman year at college. So this is my tale of woe for now Jane

International Travels - Fears and Concerns
Djmohr replied to Indieflickers's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I honestly think you are worrying too much, don't let your worries ruin such a fabulous vacation! I am green with envy. The best thing you can do is listen closely to your pouch. When you are full, stop. Try your best to select mostly good choices but don't be afraid to indulge either. You are going to be very very busy and I am certain you will burn more than you think. Oh, and get the idea out of your head that your surgery will stop being effective at the 1 year mark. It is your tool for life. I am nearly 16 months post op bypass and still losing albeit slowly. Your pouch will work restricting your intake for life. It is up to you to put good choices into it. Given how vigilant you are, I don't think you are going to have a problem. Have an absolute blast on your vacation. Have I said I am green with envy? Oh, make sure you drink tons of Water. That is the hardest part of travel period. -
