Non Dairy Shake and bar options

i found the Ripple powder for water and the Owyn premade shakes completely plant made. There were other plant options at VitaminShoppe but look at the sugars too. The prices just went way up on Amazon. I got my local shop to carry it.

    Thing I miss most

I have found I can drink right before I eat, even seconds before and I am fine, but after eating protein or a meal I need to wait at least 30 minutes, otherwise I will feel pain when trying to wash down chicken or tuna or whatever. So for meals that I am eating soup, I will just eat the soup first and then can have the protein. My bigger issue is snacking on candy, junk. cookies, Its a constant struggle for. I realize my brain and body are not on the same page. My body needs to eat slowly and doesn't care to eat out since I would end up overeating and being in pain. But my mind is still thinking of eating out 3 times a day and in 3 more times and midnight snacks. I never cured my addiction, its tough, I find myself getting much quicker to anger at my wife or kids since i am having this internal struggle. I keep saying I need to see a good therapist or go to OA, get a sponsor and give it a good go. But i say I am too busy or its expensive. As is I am saving more than $1000 a month than before surgery. That is just for my restaurant bills , that I would go out and eat myself like lunch twice a day, like sushi with a friend and then Italian myself.... Its also tough since my energy levels are the same as before. I was always a high energy person. so i feel the same, except when exercising or walking I NOTICE A major difference. . I now weight 236 pounds( 107 kilo) and 6 months ago I was 366 ( 166 kilo) , like not out of breath, I started playing basketball twice a week and can play for 2 hours straight. But i lost that relationship that was my everything ( food) and I knew how addicted I was, I just didn't give a ****. It made me always soo happy. I did not get the bypass for looks or to feel good. I only got it so my wife is not widowed in 10-15 years, I am 35 and she is 31, and I owe it to her and my 4 kids to live another 40 years minimum. pre surgery my blood pressure was 175 /125, way to f**ing high!! Its just freaking hard as hell. Im venting since I need to right now. Im still the same funny as before, I know that and friends and family say it as well. But there is still a huge change. I am eating way to much junk but at the same time I dont even feel like I enjoy it close to as much as I use to, like only 20% as much ( If I could put a number) and that is because I cannot pound it. I used to love eating like 3 burgers in buns in 2-3 minutes, thats the part that felt so amazing when my mouth was stuffed and my belly filled. I cannot look to other areas, I already had a life of drugs from 13-23 , went to rehabs and now clean for many years, although I picked up smoking weed again right after surgery to help cope with the loss of my comforter, my right hand man, my happy self, my food... but I only smoke on weekends 1-2 times, since that is when I am not working. So not heavy at all. Cigarettes I stopped 16 months ago. But have had like 4-5 of them in the last 2 months, but wont let myself start again, so no wiggle room. I guess I am saying I need support, any support will be welcome. Its just hard. that is all !

    I'm sad VERY SAD!

Since you're so early out from surgery, I can tell you this is normal. Hormones are wacky because this is a MAJOR surgery. The first 2 weeks I couldn't drink very well at all. I was on an all liquid diet for 2 weeks post op and it really hurt to drink. But, and I know you don't want to hear this, but it got better. IT WILL GET BETTER. Once you get to the mushy stage, it'll be Heaven. I'm 6 weeks out, and I can eat normal foods. The trick for me, since I never lost my hunger hormone and don't have restriction, is to stick super close to my bariatric diet. But I can tell you, you will be able to eat normal foods again. Maybe not rice or breads or pasts (or if you do, extremely small amounts), but meats, veggies, etc will definitely be ok. You just gotta get there. I know it's hard, but the end results are so worth it. I've lost 33 pounds in 6 weeks (an average of 5 1/2 pounds per week). And I had a miserable 2 week stall where I actually gained 5 pounds. And since then, once the stall broke, I lost those 5 pounds plus more. So while it's tough right now, make sure you get in your protein (shakes, protein water, etc), and make sure you're walking everyday. It really will get better. It took 3 weeks before all of my pain went away, but now I can do whatever I want exercise wise, and I can eat what I want as long as I make sure A) I don't eat portions that are too big I don't graze throughout the day C) I only eat what my stomach can tolerate (lettuce is a no no for me), and D) I stick to 60-80g of protein a day, less than 50g of carbs a day, and less than 50g of fats per day. You'll get there, and you'll look back on how you feel right now and really feel proud of yourself for how far you've come.
  4. If you have the ability to purchase a Ninja Cream, you can turn the shakes into ice cream. I'm looking forward to it more after so I can add some "fun" things in like sugar free puddings to get some better flavors, but I made one last night with Vanilla Fairlife and about 2 tbsp of a chocolate protein shake added when I did the respin.

Over 2 month pre-op diet!?! Anyone else?

My surgeon didn't allow me to have any food at all. So the stuff I mentioed is what I was told I can have. If you can have a meal, I would look at some ideas of what others had that were allowed to. I saw a lot of fish, steamed veggies, chicken, lean proteins (lean ground beef), etc... They also made sure not to have more than 4oz of food during their 1 meal. I wish you lots of luck. You got this
  6. So the surgeon has mean on a bariatric brand of protein shakes which I bought 2 flavors. As for the snacking.. He told me I can't snack at all. The only food I can consume is the lunch. I have however, I been snacking on pickles when I get super hungry which helps to munch on something. Everything I've heard of other peoples pre-op diets are soooo different from mine. I know every surgeon is different so trying to follow as much as possible.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

I had mine June 2nd and I don't get food until tomorrow. I have 14 days of just protein shakes (3-4 a day), broth, and jello. I am starting to hate protein shakes.

Over 2 month pre-op diet!?! Anyone else?

When i had to do the total of 3 weeks, I made sure to have a variety of protein shakes (my favorites are from Fairlife and Premier) as well as a variety of protein flavored waters, sugar free protein gatorades, and protein smoothies. There's also sugar free jello you can have. And sugar free tropical popsicles. This is what got me through, helped me get my fluids in, and got me to my protein goals. I still drink a protein shake in the morning (has 30g of protein and caffeine). Make sure you give yourself variety so you don't get bored.
  9. I wasn't required to do it, but I chose to do an additional five weeks of pre-op diet. It'll make my end pre-op period 8 weeks. During those five weeks, I would drink a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and have a dinner of protein and vegetables. I didn't stick to a specific calorie range, but it was normally between 500-700. The 700 calorie days were typically when I couldn't avoid eating out and had to choose the healthiest option available to me. I'm starting my last week of pre-op today and I've lost 37.4 pounds so far. I was hoping for 50, but I knew that was a big ask.
  10. I am preop. I’ve found a protein powder, EarthChimp, I love. Can any one recommend dairy free, not just lactose free, pre made shakes and bars you like? I’ve seen GNC has some so I will try them. Any suggestions welcome. Are there dairy/whey free protein waters Or powders for water? Thank you.

    Blah...my first stall...

Maybe change up what you're eating. Your calories don't sound bad, but my dietician said to get 60-80g of protein per day, less than 50g of carbs per day, and less than 50g of fats per day. She didn't say anything about counting calories. Maybe try counting the protein, carbs, and fats instead of calories. Maybe that'll help. And chair exercises sound excellent. Any additional movement is good, although I'm finding my body holds weight if I work out too much. So chair exercises might give you the movement you need to drop weight without overdoing it. If you can't eat enough food to get your protein in, drink protein shakes and protein water. I also found protein gatorade that's sugar free and only has 1 carb, which helps with hydration and protein. While you should be getting your protein from food, at this point just getting it and hitting your fluid goals is more important. So definitely look into that and see if it helps.
  13. I use the Web version because I'm mostly on my laptop, so it always shows up there. I only use the cell phone app version when I'm away from home and eating something that's off plan, so I won't forget to add it when I get home. However, you can see the protein there (on the app version) if you scroll to the bottom of the food diary page and click on "Nutrition" (it gives you the whole breakdown). and yes - there are thousands of items in the database - and those would all include the protein in them. I almost never have to add anything manually.
  14. You may have to play around with the settings to get it to show more easily. It's easier if you have the premium subscription, but I know you can do it without that. Their support team is really good, so if you can't figure it out, reach out to them. Here you can see that the grams of protein for each meal is listed but if you click on each food you can see it. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "nutrition" it will show you the macros and micronutrients for the day so far.
  15. So my surgery is scheduled for end of August. I have been put on a bariatric protein shake for breakfast and dinner. I am allowed to eat a lunch that consist of 3-4oz lean meat and 1-2 cups of certain veggies, no more than 500 calories, low fat. I have to lose 40lbs before surgery. Anyone else have to do this? If so how did you get through it and how well did it work?

    Thing I miss most

I have my teams consent to try a few sips to help with my protein. A warm coffee does help with chewing the meats

    Blah...my first stall...

The weight showing on my time line was mostly pre op. Once I had the surgery I lost 14 additional lbs by day 9 post op. Then everything came to an abrupt stop. I battle a constant lose 1 lbs then gain it back. This has been going on the whole time (5 weeks now). I have been in the office 4 times over this and an incision that wouldnt heal come to find out it was a stitch that was sticking out. So that is finally about closed and the incision looks alot better but no more weight loss. They keep telling me not to worry but after 5 weeks I am definitely worried. I go back in the office to see the Dr and dietician on 6/20. I am actually dreading it. I cannot help but feel like a failure and boy ole boy do the mind games kick in. Today I feel defeated but I know I need to reset my way of thinking with this. I battle with fluid intake and protein and I have mobility issues because of my right knee. Someone above mentioned not to let your body conform to a certain calorie intake and I think that may be what happened with me. I only get about 500-700 calories a day. Unlike you, I have no real hunger and I do have restriction and can feel it. Im not hungry all the time either, I have caught myself wanting to snoop about for something to eat and I ask myself what are you doing your not even hungry. lol So the "tool" is there and working but my body is not wanting to let loose of the weight. Im going to look into starting with some chair exercises first to move myself more and hopefully if that helps and if weight loss starts again then maybe I can get enough off to be more mobile with walking. At best I have about 20-30 min window before the knee gives out (was told I need a knee replacement). Im a constant work in progress lol
  18. I tried that one and it requires you to add in how much protein, is that right? I thought there'd be an app that automatically calculates the protein Sent from my SM-S908E using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. How is everyone keeping track of their protein intake?? Sent from my SM-S908E using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. You may find you can’t stand anything sweet after surgery as your taste buds temporarily change. This a good thing as it can help reduce your desire for sweet foods. I never really craved sugar but I enjoyed dessert & having something sweet after dinner every night & a sweet treat morning or afternoon snack on the weekend (I have 6 high end patisseries & bakeries in a 2km radius around my house 😱). Now, I rarely have desserts, cakes, biscuits, pastries, etc. (couple of times a year) & don’t eat chocolate or lollies at all. Don’t miss it either. Watch artificial sweeteners as they continue to feed your desire for sugar & they have lots of side effects including weight gain (makes your body hold on to calories), allergies, etc. About 1/2 my fluid intake comes from plain water. I was allowed green tea from surgery & I have a large mug (400ml) every day. I also let sparkling water go flat & I have 400-500mls a day. The mineral taste was a nice change to plain water. I was also allowed rolled oats from purée (instant to begin) & I used a lot of milk so I get extra fluid that way. I also found a good low calorie high protein yoghurt drink. (You can make your own by mixing yoghurt with milk.) Keep a glass of water beside you all the time even by your bed. It actually just becomes a habit.

    Potatoes?

I'm still pre op, therefore lacking in real experience. My program forbids potatoes for life and only allows complex carbs in the form of quinoa, beans, oats, etc. And then, only after reaching goal. I love to garden and recently discovered the love of growing my own potatoes. I will be eating those potatoes (don't tell ). I actually love plain boiled potatoes with salt and pepper. Don't really care for French Fries. Home grown potatoes that I planted myself, weeded, dug up by hand, cleaned and boiled didn't get me to where I am today! I plan to pair them with protein to prevent glucose/insulin spikes. As long as I meet my goals I plan to eat my potatoes!

    Potatoes?

I am not a big potato lover but I do make homemade fries in the air fryer on occasion and My husband makes a lower calories potato salad for holidays that I do indulge In a small portion of. I think as long as you are getting in your protein and you budget your calories you should enjoy.

    What can I eat?

Are you allowed to eat nuts and nut butters? Edamame? You could make vegetarian chili with lots of beans for protein/fiber. Tofu curry.
  24. Starwarsandcupcakes

    What can I eat?

Just egg is a great egg replacement substitute for real eggs. I missed omelettes and scrambles so bad those first 4-6 months after my revision because eggs and chicken sat horribly in my pouch. Oatmeal with powdered peanut butter Non-dairy greek yogurt with mashed berries Scrambled tofu with nooch nut butters on toast or crackers (I was allowed toast in soft foods phase) Blend spinach and kale into smoothies chicken salad made with canned chicken- (I agree it’s weird to have people wait so long for certain proteins)
