Lap band Revision to Sleeve pain
Green1 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am just wondering something. I had the plication/lp band to sleeve surgery about 1 year and 2 months ago. but ive still been having cramping on the left side. it is also in the back it feels like a pulled bone/ and or muscle. Ive been to a bunch of doctors for this. i had my gallbladder removed recently and also was told that it may be some abdominal muscle or stitch. Ive been dealing with this for a while now. does anyone have any advice or answers here? -
Band to VSG or Bypass
bearhugs1975 replied to WshfullyShrnkng's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sorry for the delay in my reply, with the holidays I let time get away from me. I has my revision this past April. It has been wonderful! All of the reflux issues are gone and the bypass isn’t anything scary yo deal with at all. Weight loss has been steady and I am right where I want to be, comfortably. -
I wanted to sleeve to begin with but my insurance didn't cover it at the time. And I was impatient and didn't want to wait for the time that my insurance would cover it. So I went with the band. The first Year I did pretty well with it, I lost about 35 pounds and kept it off for about 5 years but I didn't put in as much effort as I should have to lose more. But as time went on food started to get stuck more and more frequently and it got to the point that I was vomiting every day....so soft foods were my go to. And soft foods are not the healthiest thing in the world...so the weight came back on and the vomiting continued. I finally had enough and went to my doc and he recommended the revision which I wanted anyway. I have had more trouble with it than what she it's been worth. There are some people that have been very successful and happy with it, but I'm not one. My surgeon even said he doesn't do lapbands anymore from the high rate of complications he's seen. He told me the sleeve has been the most successful with the lowest rate of long term complications that he has seen in his practice. I hope this helps. No matter what you decide just remember WLS is a tool and it still takes a lot of work on your part. Good luck to you.

I am in the process of deciding Band or sleeve and would like to know the pros and cons and why did you decide to have a revision? Sent from my SM-T813 using BariatricPal mobile app

I had a lap band removal October 2016. It messed my insides up so bad I had to wait a year until I could have a revision, to which I had the Bypass October 10, 2017. I hope yours has not done any damage.

Hi everyone. I'm Scheduled for lap-band removal Feb 5th. I should be having a revision to the sleeve around 3 months after that (pending insurance approval). I am just curious about the recovery time from lap-band removal. I'd also like to know what you're post op diet from lap-band removal was. Thanks!

Medicare Lapband Revision Denials Low BMI
Jengo825 replied to SKF's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If this was an emergency revision, the denial could be due to incorrect billing codes. I had the same problem with my revision so I contacted my surgeon’s office to check the coding. When they recoded as an emergency (which it was) insurance paid for it. I am on Medicare so they don’t pre- approve, so when I got the bill, I was shocked too! I also found out Medicare doesn’t pay for more than one surgery at a time and mine involved 1)LB removal 2) Bypass 3) and hernia repair. The bariatric center recoded and gave reasons why it had to be done at once. So anyway...have your Bariatric center help you. Best of luck getting your sleeve....and with your approval. BTW, my secondary is BCBS. However, any secondary should pay the remainder if it is approved my Medicare. -

Medicare Lapband Revision Denials Low BMI
SKF posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am reaching out to anyone who can share help in getting Gastric Sleeve approved by Humana Medicare after an emergency Lap Band Removal with a low BMI 30. Are there Any Advocates that can help with a denial and now trying to Appeal? This is just not fair. I am sure there are a lot of Lapband removals Out there. Medicare guidelines are not up to the times of all these problems that are going on with failed Lapband and medical issues causing patients. Thanks for any feedback. BTW they told e to reapply when I reached 35... I have 3 of the comorbids and my band was successful too for me for 5 years. -
Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass — What and Why did you choose?
Katbad posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m in the assessment stage and originally was thinking of the sleeve, but after talking with the dietician and nurse, I’m wondering if this is the right choice. I had lapband surgery in 2007 and was very successful with it, losing about 125 lbs. I kept it off for several years, but over time it malfunctioned and slipped, so I had to have it defilled. Then I gained most of it back. Now I want revision surgery and the WLS center thinks I’m a candidate for either — my choice. What led you to choose one or the other? Any pros or cons? Any advice would be great. -
Anyone had surgery greater than 5 years ago?
MonkeyNurse replied to sdtoin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 5 1/2 years out from sleeve and gained almost all my weight back. I am converting to bypass in one week with a different surgeon. He said at a recent conference they said in 10 years 40% of sleeve patients would need some type of revision due to weight regain. My upper GI and EGD showed my sleeve has a pouch at the top and retained fundus (top of stomach). My surgeon said no part of the fundus should be left because it's the stretchiest part of the stomach. That's the part that stretched out and made a pouch. The rest of my sleeve is also dilated. -
Types of Bariatric Surgery: By the Numbers and What It Means
AllanG replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
This post is very interesting and helpful. It confirms to me that lap band surgery is not advisable. It also confirms the increasing popularity of sleeve surgery. I still think that the RNY bypass is the best action for me to take. I think many of the sleeve surgeries will end up with disappointing results and many will require revisions to bypass. -
Spring 2018 Sleevers??? Looking for support, surgery buddies, advice, etc.! Lol.
Katbad replied to WLS4ME33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I’m new to this as well. I’ve had some appt already: dietician, nurse, GI scan, PT assessment and mental health. My insurance also requires phone calls with their coaches so that’s going to take some time. I will be passed all of this by end of Feb, but will schedule it for May due to work. I started thinking sleeve, but now I’m also considering bypass. This will be a revision from the lapband - so not my first rodeo, but will be my last and permanent choice. Nervous and excited. -
I had a revision on 12/28/17, lapband to sleeve, still a little sore and on clear liquids. I'm 6 days post-op and down 12 lbs. Will see doctor today for follow up visit. Really excited about my new journey. This is a wonderful site, so helpful. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone have gastric sleeve years after having your band removed?
EagerPenguin replied to kyotosong's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is great! It shows dedication to a healthier lifestyle. It'll be good to have a tool (the sleeve) to help keep that off. Your appetite may or may not decrease after sleeve surgery. Mine is still there, but I've read of other who aren't hungry at all for up to a year. I've read that you can expect to lose about 60% of your excess weight with the sleeve, but some have lost more and actually achieved a normal BMI. I've been having some trouble with the diet; I didn't expect it to be this difficult to tolerate. I'm so sick of liquids, of protein shakes, and now of pureed textures. I want something crunchy, a cucumber with greek yogurt ranch dip perhaps. I'll get to regular foods eventually, but the wait is a lot longer in my mind than I was expecting. My weight loss has also been slow so far. I was sleeved on 12/7/17 and have lost about 12 pounds since then, which seems low. I suspect it's due to my medications, because there's no way it's due to excessive caloric intake. And it turns out that the timing is harder than I anticipated. Having the surgery before the holidays has been really hard. I was having a little bit of regret at first, when I was more bummed out about these issues, but I don't regret the surgery at all. I think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I totally feel a difference from the band. I had a more difficult recovery with the sleeve than the band (a week of mild nausea, stomach cramps), and as I wrote about above, the inital diet is typically long and in my opinion sucks, but it'll be worth it. So far, instead of my food getting stuck at the top of my stomach, it slowly makes its way to the bottom until I feel satisfied. You still have to eat slowly, and take small bites and chew chew chew, but I've not had any regurgitation, "stuck" foods, or "slime-ing", even now that I've started puree. Also, NOT HAVING A PORT. That's glorious. I hated the thing. It flipped on me shortly after placement, so I had to have another surgery to fix it, the fills were painful, and it was plain uncomfortable under my skin. The sleeve is like night and day from the band. It's becoming very common to revise from the band to sleeve. Best wishes as you make your decision. -
Yes! I loved having them, especially in the first days post op. They go down different than a sip of crystal light. I still like having them. Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

I have over a week left on the purée diet then 2 weeks on soft. I’m so sick of it. I’ve had refried beans, the ricotta bake, mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, yogurt, puréed chili, tuna salad, smoothies, and everything from the liquid diet. Anyone have any new ideas for another week of purees? Lap band 10/2007 revised to RNY 12/22/2017 HW 270 SW 263 CW 253

Intro time: who's new to the group, who's pre-op, & who just recently made it to the loser's bench?
Katbad replied to xoxococojay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I’m new to the journey. I’m in the middle of assessment for revision surgery. I had a lapband in 2007 and had great success until it slipped in 2012. After losing 120 lbs I’ve now gained back 80. I’m now looking into either a VGS or RNY. Any advice on which one would be helpful. I suffer from mild heartburn infrequently so I’m concerned about reflux with the VGS. surgery won’t be until May or so due to my work schedule, but want to decide soon. The doctors are open to either for me. -
Feedback on having Duodenal Switch Surgery?
quuquui replied to pinkey2018's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I'm looking for a sleeve revision to DS. I would like to hear from long term post DS patients (like 5-10 years+) What is your experience with your blood levels and health? How is your digestion? How is your energy? Do you regret having the procedure? How is the Vitamin regimen, especially B12 levels? Thanks. -
