Hello I had my surgery done two years ago and meet the requirements through a army hospital. At time of surgery I loss weight and was down to a BMI of 33.8 and I had two co morbidities. Fast forward to today and I need a revision because my sleeved failed( doctors error). Tricare denied me and my appeal because I don't meet the civilian standards from my original surgery. I meet them now though but because at the time of surgery I was under BMI. I am going to do an external appeal because I need a revision. Any help on what I can do or add to my appeal would be great. Also if you had an external appeal with Tricare could you let me know how the process was! Thanks

Got A Fill Today..and Its Back Under The Knife Wednesday !
lellow replied to littlerlou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have the port tubing come undone but I've recently had port revision for a leak. So shoot me any questions you have. And yes it's ridiculous that he didn't listen to you the last time, but I guess they assume it will get better and only get concerned when it doesn't. I wish you all the luck with your revision and I hope you get a working band again soon. -
On Tuesday I had a revision from a band to a bypass. I am extremely swollen and actually weigh 9 pounds more than I did the morning of surgery. How long did the swellinglast for others before you saw actual weight loss. Thanks!

Typing this post from the gym this morning. Literally one year ago this morning, I was on the way to the hospital for the band-to-bypass revision... Today, I'm going to run 5 miles on the elliptical... Life has changed and I am so thankful for friends, family, and this community for the support and encouragement along this journey. As I often tell folks, I may have reached my weight loss goal, but the war of the scale and heart remains...always need to focus on maintaining a healthy weight and living life. Moderation is my friend. Binges are no more and emotional eating is always on my mind...... Reflection is key. It's not easy, but the surgery wasn't a magic pill -- just a tool among other tools to help me along the way. Maybe my new birthday will be Jan 21, 2013 instead of my actual birthday

What doctor did you go to? I'm in Northern NJ and am looking for a good physician. I have had two gastric bands erode through my stomach and would like to have the gastric sleeve vs gastric bypass this time. I'm not sure about going to my past physician, or possibly trying a new doctor. I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ and am thankful to hear that you were approved for the sleeve. Would possibly like to go to the same physician as you since you were approved for the procedure. Thanks "I have Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ and they got rid of the 6 month wait right when I went through the process to be submitted (dec 10). Before that time my friend had a revision from a band to sleeve and after 3 denials did get approved and didn't have to do the 6 month wait. Be sure to call because requirements change and you may not be aware. I was approved very quickly. Within a few days of submitting and approved the first time. I was very surprised. Good Luck"

March 31st Band to Sleevers
mandyq1985 replied to readinva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not having a revision, I'm actually having my first surgery. I'm going to have the sleeve done. But my surgery date is March 31st. Maybe we could be sleeve buddies. Haha -
3 Days Post-op and regretting this
Losingit2018 replied to JPapenberg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is more important to get your fluids than your protein at this point. Try a different brand of shake. You can also get fairlife milk from grocery store and drink it instead of shakes if you just can’t tolerate them. I had no problem with the premier protein shakes pre op. Had my revision to rny last Friday and I am not able to keep premier protein down at all. I switched to syntrax and fairlife milk. Another thing is to make sure you are just slowly sipping your shakes. Like one ounce in 15 minutes or so. Go too fast and they will come back up due to lack of anywhere to go once your pouch is full. Hang in there and keep us posted. -
I'm finally scheduled for surgery in 3wks...I'm just looking for the basics on what to expect the first few days after surgery. Besides tired anyways. Soreness and so on. BILLING/CODING INFORMATION: CPT Coding: 43644 Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure; with gastric bypass and Roux-en-Y gastroenterostomy (Roux limb 150 cm or less) 43645 Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure; with gastric bypass and small intestine reconstruction to limit absorption (investigational) 43770 Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure; placement of adjustable gastric band (gastric band and subcutaneous port components) 43771 Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure; revision of adjustable gastric band component only 43772 Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure; removal and replacement of adjustable gastric band component only 43773 Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure; removal and replacement of adjustable gastric band component only 43774 Laparoscopy, surgical, gastric restrictive procedure; removal of adjustable gastric band and subcutaneous port components 43842 Gastric restrictive procedure, without gastric bypass, for morbid obesity; vertical-banded gastroplasty 43843 Gastric restrictive procedure, without gastric bypass, for morbid obesity; other than vertical-banded gastroplasty (investigational) 43845 Gastric restrictive procedure with partial gastrectomy, pylorus-preserving duodenoileostomy and ileoileostomy (50 to 100 cm common channel) to limit absorption (biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch) 43846 Gastric restrictive procedure, with gastric bypass for morbid obesity; with short limb (150 cm or less) Roux-en-Y gastroenterostomy (may be done laparoscopically) 43847 Gastric restrictive procedure, with gastric bypass for morbid obesity; with small intestine reconstruction to limit absorption (may be done laparoscopically) There is no specific CPT or HCPCS code to report mini gastric bypass. A laparoscopic approach is used with the mini-gastric bypass. The stomach is segmented similar to a traditional gastric bypass; the jejunum is anastomosed directly to the stomach, similar to a Billroth II procedure. The mini gastric bypass is not based on its laparoscopic approach, but rather the type of anastomosis used. Had a gastric bypass revision on mar. 18. I was 332 at my pre-op office visit, 313 on surgery day. I am down to 299. i have my first post -op visit tomorrow. I am in an amazingly good mood. I think it is from the healthier eating and Vitamins. I just hope I lost enough in the 3 weeks since the surgery. I am disabled and cannot move much. I did put in a flower garden with lots of help from my grandson. I can mostly work on the planters, but I think it will be fun to watch the flowers grow while I shrink. The dreaded huge double chin shrank a little and I saw it in a picture taken yesterday! It is still there, but much smaller.

Hi there! I'm scheduled for a revision from Lap-Band to gastric bypass on May 19. I have had my band for 5.5 years and have just had too much trouble with it almost the entire time but worse for the last two years, and I'm looking forward to having it out. I initially wanted nothing to do with bypass and thought the band would be my perfect tool but of course didn't anticipate all the negative effects. It took me a while to decide to revise and now it can't come quick enough!! I am most nervous about my port coming out as I've read that it can be quite painful, and it's been sitting in there getting all encapsulated for more than five years, whereas it seems like the majority of revisions are only two-year-old bands. My biggest hurdle will be my Protein shakes. I can't tolerate artificial sweeteners too well and don't really like whey protein, so I've been researching alternatives. I have an egg-white Protein powder and a vegan powder ready to go, which both are highly rated by consumers. I tried a sample egg-white powder and it was far better to me than whey. They are both sweetened with stevia, also better for me personally. I am also planning on purchasing unjury chicken Soup, which is whey but (apparently) better hidden with the savory flavor. Most of my prep is done and I'm just waiting. PS, I'm not too patient!!

Did you have to wait for revision after band removal?
deletedelete posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am just curious how many people had to wait to have their VSG revision done during a second operation. I am worried that once the surgeon gets "in there" it will be an "ut oh" situation where I will have to have revision done at a later time. I am self pay... so that would really not bode well. -
Question regarding 7 weeks post op
LSF replied to marbelvsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the lapband in 2008 and just had it removed on 2/4 and had the sleeve done at the same time. From all the posts I've been reading, those that have had the "revision" surgery are not losing as fast as those that are having the sleeve. But I also had an easier time adjusting because I had been through it before with the band -
In my opinion, you don't just need a VSG surgeon, you need a surgeon who has done a significant number of revisions. I know my surgeon has done a number of revisions but he is in Mexico and you would have to self-pay. Maybe search the Band to Sleeve Revision forum for names?

OK...my surgery is scheduled for July 23rd, and that's all I've been thinking about....UNTIL I got a job last week...not just any job a part time job in the travel industry. I mean these jobs don't come around often and there was no way I was turning it down. My problem is of course I couldn't tell them about the surgery because there are 100 others waiting in line for this job. It requires that I go out of town for 2 weeks of training, which I am trying to cram in pre op. My question is post op. Is lifting objects a concern? At times I will be required to lift objects up to 40 pound for very short distances. It's actually just to pick them up and put them on the conveyor belt? How long before I am able to do it? I don't want to lose my dream job, but then again I don't want to mess up my surgery. I may have to delay the surgery....something I DON'T want to do. HELP!!!!

Hi Jules! I had much the same experience as you, I was banded in 2008 and spent the past several years throwing up daily, no fun! I too have a young child (turned 1 June 11th) and my pregnancy took a toll on my band. I had band revision in August and then band to bypass on May 21st. It has been like a rebirth. I feel like I have to work harder to keep myself on track because of the years of band habits but I has been great. No more gurgling and sliming, I feel normal again Miri

Gastric bypass or sleeve?
SleeveandRNYchica replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was like you no comorbities. I was a great sleeve candidate. I was a terribly slow loser which I learned to live with. I have since had some complications post pregnancy and will be revised to bypass soon. I have developed terrible GERD with my sleeve. Also, some sleeve drs still do not advise taking NSAIDS. I took them after my c-section and thought I was gonna have a heart attack. Since then my surgeon had told me to stop using them. I think this is an area that is still conflicting amongst the sleeve community. People have success with both and there can be complications with both. -
7 months post op and pregnant
Sportgirl63 replied to Madelyne Bonthron's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I experienced this same thing...back in Oct of '01 I had WLS and in Mar of '02 found out I was expecting. What a shocker! Not only was I a recent WLS patient, but I had high blood pressure, and I was approaching 40. Now 11 years later I have a beautiful daughter that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world! Here's what I can tell you about my experience...I did continue to lose weight during my pregnancy. I did have gestational diabetes, but that is not uncommon. My advice is to make sure you have an OB/GYN that is familiar with WLS (mine actually did a bariatric rotation with my weight loss surgeon). Don't forget to take care of yourself. The demands of a pregnancy and taking care of a newborn can be so overwhelming and for me it was very easy to lose sight of my weight loss goals. I just had a revision in November and although I don't regret it, I sure don't recommend it. Take care of yourself now. Don't lost sight of your goals. What you do now to take care of yourself will make you a better mom. Enjoy your pregnancy, but take care of yourself! -
Starting Pre-op diet
Bornagainbabe replied to stephmarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had to do a milk and yogurt diet for 10 days prior to my band op and again for my revision. I found that the best way for me to cope with it was to have a complete blow-out the night before of my favourite takeaway and then I was sorted and my head was in the right place to get on with the pre-op! I had milk for Breakfast, milk for lunch and milk for tea. I didn't have much yogurt as I can't stand the taste or consistency but I did have the odd oxo cube to satisfy my cravings for savoury. I heated the milk up, whisked it like mad and had it with coffee as a Cappuccino, I drank whenever I felt hungry or had a craving, I let my family prepare their own meals and went upstairs whilst they ate and did everything I could to keep occupied and not thinking about food. I was also mindful of the fact that my liver needed to shrink for the op and that my surgeon would know if I hadn't stuck to the diet and would possibly cancel as a result. I kept this in mind all the time that by doing this it would make the op easier and safer to perform. It's not easy but just keep thinking about why you want this op and that you are going to succeed. You can have a moan on here anytime you want and we will all support you! Good luck! -
I too am a band to bypass revision! My surgery date in 8/11/14! I AM PUMPED!

Congrats all! I had my revision on May 7th and I like y'all had the feelings. I am 37 lbs down and 19 away from goal. I did have to have my intestine dilated because it was to small and I was having hard tine getting food thru with solids. After having the scope done to fix, I have had no problems. If i didn't sound bad saying it, I would tell all the pre bandsters not to do the band.
