    MONDAY!!! I'm so ready

scheduled for noon, have to be at hospital by 10 am

    I got sleeved today!

Don’t be too worried. I also scar so very easily. But I’ll definitely take 4 little scars than a shorter lifespan! Just realize that the first days will probably suck in one way or another. Like I said, the gas was the worst for me. I was lucky and had zero nausea. I was told I woke up immediately when they stopped running the anesthesia which they were surprised by. I remember two things from the moment I was rolling out of the surgery to the recovery. 1. I said “I’m going to throw up!” and the nice anesthesia nurse said “No you’re not.” and gave me something in my IV. Nausea gone, never to return. Then she asked me to rate my pain on a 1-10 scale. I said 7? And then I took a breath and the worst pain I’ve ever felt stabbed me from inside the left side of my tummy. I started to cry. She immediately ran 2 doses of Demerol and had me roll onto my right side. Bam! Pain gone. I’ve always been very stoic and had a very high pain tolerance. I fell down 8 wooden porch stairs and a portion of my upper cheek was sliced open. I shattered my nose, orbital socket, cheek bone, had a concussion ect. I never even cried. So, I figured I don’t want to say I have a 10 pain scale when I figured that’s reserved for like amputation or something. That was my mistake. Don’t be afraid to say your pain is high. The second bout of pain was around 7 pm the night of surgery. It was sudden with no explanation. I just immediately curled into a ball and my eyes watered. Fortunately my mom was there and called the nurses in a second. She knows that pain never really bothers me and that to be acting like that things were bad. They gave 5mg of OxyContin. During the night I had a dose of Roxicet as well. And that was it. But, I. WALKED. ALL. NIGHT. I mean all night. I got about 90 minutes of sleep during my 24 hours in the hospital. And I peed all night long too. They gave us 3 IV’s over 24 hours. 2 just fluids and 1 vitamin bag. I made sure that at dinner I got in 4 oz of broth and 2 oz of unsweetened tea. They also gave me a constant supply of ice water and 2 small cups of SF jello at both meals. I would save the jello and take tiny bites in between each 2-3 laps of the floor. At the meeting of WLS patients prior to release, I was far and away the one who looked and felt the best. I was the last surgery of the day, but the first to be released. So my advice is to accept that there’s going to be pain, and do your best to just soldier through it. Get up and walk walk walk. I’m 3 days out now, and I walk a little further each night. Today I was able to walk the dog for 30 minutes and wasn’t even tired. I swear the dog is in worse shape than I am! [emoji23] I do sleep a lot, and I’m in no way getting 64 oz of fluid, but I did get almost 400 calories and 37g of protein in today. Water is actually the most difficult thing for me to get down. I take 750 mg of Tylenol twice a day and that it. I don’t have to crush my pills or anything else. The only pain I have now is incision pain. Tylenol takes care of that. My first day home I did get my first case of the slimes and foamies. Now I know how to keep that from happening. I still take gas x twice a day. I’m way less bloated and swollen already and I started losing weight today. All in all, it’s been pretty great. But when you get out of surgery and it hurts like the devil, just remind yourself that the pain in so very temporary and you won’t even remember how severe it really was a few days later. I know everyone has different experiences, but I thought I’d share more of mine with you. My only complaint is that I still can’t get into and out of my bed. But luckily we have a sun room with a reclining couch and large tv so I’m able to stay comfortable all the time. It has a door that I hung a sheet on to get privacy from the rest of the house, so I’m not bothered by others. And yes, I have a hair trigger temper. I get crabby in .6 seconds flat. But since the nurse coordinator told my parents about that happening for at least a month, they were prepared and have done well ignoring me when it happens. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I’m an open book so nothing is off limits. Good luck on your journey! 2 weeks post op

I'm 10 days post op and I'm starving... I'm hoping once I get my first few fills this will subside... Also does anyone with polycystic ovaries still have a hard time losing the weight? That was always my problem and the medication that was given to me for this is also suppose to help lose weight becuz of the insulin resistance but this medication has awful side effects and I hate taking it... Ugh I hope there's light at the end of my tunnel.....

    Eating more

I'm now 10 mths out and have recently noticed the ability to eat more at night only. Before 7pm, I can still keep it under control. When I'm lying in bed, watching tv is when I snack and I can eat ALOT now. Still managing to maintain, but would like to lose another 10 lbs. Gotta do something soon...

Seeking a buddy... I live in nyc

Hi guys I would love a NYC buddy I am 31 and I am scheduled for sept 10. I don't know anyone that has gone through this so having support from people who have would be wonderful!
  6. I drink up to 5-10 minutes before a meal sometimes. If I can, I try to make it 30 min. I took a tip from another bandster, and order a glass of ice with my meals out--just munch on it if needed during a meal, then I usually wait at least 1/2 hour after--longer if I can.

    Nausea

Hi there! I’m 3 months into my surgery and since 2 months i haven’t really felt like myself, the first month of Gastric Sleeve was perfect no pain no nausea no vomiting no discomfort, but right after that 1 month mark passed everything went downhill, i have no appetite I’m always nauseous to the point where i vomit for relief, food portion wise I’m eating like a 4 month old, I’ve consulted my doctor and he proscribed meds. Took the dosage and term of meds and still nothing, was suppose to do a endoscopy can’t due to covid-19 situation, so I’m wondering is there anyone else out there who’s experienced this, I’ve asked my buddies if they’ve felt this and 15/15 said no, my symptoms consist of nausea dizziness vomiting loss of appetite lower stomach pain dull kind of. Food doesn’t go down easy. liquids sometimes hurt. And heartburn. I’ve taken antacids. Antibiotics. Gas meds. And a liquid coating to help, and it’s like nothing ever helps, the only a quick solution and it’s for maybe a hour is peppermint tums, like this made my surgery a bad decision for me cause there’s times i can go days without eating and just drink liquids, really hope someone can help with some suggestions. Thanks and sorry for the long message lol

    Really freaking out.

So I am sitting on the bed in the prep room with an IV in and I think "nope, not gonna do it!" "What the F... am I doing!" "What is this goes wrong?" "how do I escape?" I had to calm down my mom had to talk me down. I really freaked! I had been uneasy for a few days before, I didn't follow my pre-op diet 100% maybe about 95% I was scared of the anethisia (sp ?) but I know this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am almost two weeks post op. I have lost 33 lbs. since I started my pre op diet and 10 since surgery. The hospital was blah but not to bad. The worst part is that they keep waking you up to take vitals. Now my biggest complaint is my stomach is sore. You will get through this you will ge great and so handsome!

    Hospital Bajanor

From: Mstanton161, Hi DASHLY, I was banded two days (on 9/10/09) ago at Bajanor my experience there was wonderful the staff made me feel at home I was really impressed with the whole experience. I must say that I was a bit nervous at first but after looking around and seeing how clean and equip the facility was. After talking to the staff, I knew immediately they were competent. The pain after surgery was very minimal. I actually walked from our Hotel to Mall and back with my daughter and best friend the next day. I did have alot of air in my stomach and that was bothersome but the gas-ex I brought with me gave some relief. I'm so happy I did this and would do it again in a heart beat. I can truly say that Bajanor exceeded my expectations. :tongue2: I was given a take home packet full of helpful information/tools needed to be succesful.

    Surgery Postponed

Hi Paperplane..I can imagine how disappointed you must have felt to have your surgery postpone especially after all of you have gone through (the lonnnnnng process) to get to the point of getting a date, but you will be fine. You will get your surgery because you have already shown you have what it takes to lose weight without surgery which in itself something I truly admire about all pre-op patients. Thank goodness your husband is fine and now you can turn your focus back on yourself. When I started this journey I prayed long and hard figuring if this is in God's plan for my life, it will happen regardless of delays, disappointments and even my own self doubts. I do not have a date as of yet, but I am at the end of the pre-op process and will hopefully get a date soon. Although I was not told to lose any initial weight, I have gained about 10 lbs since my first consult, and I am finding it difficult to get it off. So I am willing to accept that if my surgery is postponed as a result, its because I need time to get more focused, or maybe even, as in your case, God knows I might be needed elsewhere for a moment. So stay encouraged and please keep us posted.

    Hi New here

Hi Corey, congratulations on your upcoming surgery.. I bet you are soo excited!! Thank you for your words of encouragement look forward to seeing your success story! Sumslim2b- Welcome I am excited/nervous everything all in one.. And becoming obsessed! This is all I seem to be able to think of! It's hard to believe somewhere in the future I could be in a size 10 or 8 I want to do this for myself but a huge motivating factor is my son - he is only 5 months old but I just want to be happy and healthy for him and teach him how to live a healthy lifestyle! But I know exactly what you mean I think I will eat everything & anything that I know I won't be having in my new life - so begins my breakup with unhealthy food
  14. So I am not sure this is gas pain. It came on very suddenly at 5:00 p.m. and has barely, if at all, subsided and it is now 10 p.m. I took a lot of Gas-X and a hyrdrocodone and it got a little better so I drank a shake and then the pain hit again about an hour or more later. Severe abdominal cramping - like I cannot stand up straight. I called the on call dr and she didn't seemed too concerned - as far as she said it didn't sound life threatening but if I couldn't stand it I could go to ER and get CT scan. I don't want to go to ER so I have now taken another hydrocodone and praying the pain subsides. I think it is either kidney stone or gallstones. I am hoping kidney stone since I know how those are treated. If it isn't better in the morning (or I cannot take it anymore overnight), I will have to go get the CT scan. Hey good news is at least I am not nauseous like I have been for the last few weeks (and no fever so that is why she said it doesn't sound life threatening). Ugh...

    pre-op diet

I start my pre-op diet in a 2 weeks. My diet is 1,000 calories a day for 10 days (for my BMI). However, I do it, just 1,000 calories. He suggests a protien drink for breakfast and lunch and lite dinner. Low carb/low fat/high protein. ronnie
  16. I has surgery on 2/24, so I will be two weeks out on Tuesday. I lost 10 lbs in the first week, then 1 more pound totaling 11 lbs and and now I have been stuck there for about 4 days. I have heard of the 3 week stall, but before I even reach 2 weeks? Very disappointed considering I am drinking every meal. Anyone else experience this? Is this "normal?" Thanks!
  17. I lost 15 lbs at my 2 week post op appointment and then hit a stall that lasted about 10 days. I was so freaked out because I am only eating around 550 calories a day and couldn't understand how this was happening. I started tracking everything and was getting ready to call my doctor until I found this site. You all have helped me understand that a stall is normal. My body went into starvation mode and was storing my fat. Now that it is getting used to the less calories I have lost another 6 lb an average of 1/2 lb a day. I feel great and am motivated again. I am exercising 5 days a week to help tone, which is harder for my 50 year old skin. Thanks again everyone for all your knowledge to help me on this journey.
  18. I keep thinking I'm a slow loser, but my surgeon says not. 35lbs since my journey started with the 10 pre-op and has been 10 weeks today since my surgery. But I was hoping for more....lol. I had to increase my calories a bit to get things moving, and now that the weather is a bit nicer in Michigan I've been better with my exercise. But even though it seems I stall 2 out of every 4 weeks, I measure the inches during that stall....when I checked last week I'm down 17-3/4" as in HOLY SH*T! That's huge.....or was huge. Makes me wonder how I ever squeezed myself into these clothes because they aren't even close to falling off yet, well maybe some of the shirts. The absolute best thing ever.......even though I stall, I know for sure that it is 35lbs that I will never see again. So what if it takes twice as long to lose it, less saggy skin and gone forever?!? I'll take that!
  19. Happy Changes: Fitting better in airplane seats. Shedding 10 years from my face. My mom being proud that I am getting healthy. My daughter and her friends saying I'm pretty. My adult Grisly Bear snore has reduced to a bear cub. People who haven't seen me in a while say "DAYYUUMM" before "Hello" Ordering from the kids menu in restaurants and still having a doggie bag. Paying the kids price at a buffet. Controlling my portions in spite of how much food is around me. Great dreams that I remember when I wake up. Being admired. Feeling enthusiastic. Fitting in clothes I almost gave away. Being able to take hand-me-downs from the sexy and stylish girl at work. Not shopping at Lane Bryant, the Avenue, Strutt or any other "Big Girl" store. Shopping in the Junior's section and looking good in what I try on. No real cravings anymore. Being comfortable in a 2 person go-cart. Changes that require me to think: Is this my underwear or my 14 year old daughter's? Would this guy have been interested in me 6 months ago? Will what I am about to eat make me slime? It didn't yesterday... Things I miss / make me unhappy: chocolate makes me PB - chocolate milk, a hershey's kiss, ice cream. The casino buffet - I use to really put away the crab legs and lobster tails. Taking 30 minutes longer to eat than everyone else at the table. Being asked if I am losing too fast. Being asked if I am eating / what I ate. I could probably think of more, but this is my main list...as you see the ups far outweigh the downs.
  20. ShrinkingPeach

    Realistically:

I have had 3 mixed drinks since surgery. Two of them I couldn't finish because I was at dinner and no drinking while eating. The first one I had after surgery I got quite the buzz, that was probably 10 weeks out. I don't wish to drink often due to the empty calories and honestly I didn't drink that much before.
  21. I had sleeve surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Frayre from Ponce Bariatrics on December 5th. Like anyone, I was nervous about going over the border for this and my family was pretty freaked out about that, although they supported me in making this decision. I had the single port surgery through my belly button ($6,000), and for an additional $700, they took out my gal bladder as well through the same hole. My starting weight was 210 lbs, 34 BMI, and 5'6" tall. I had a friend who had gone through Dr. Ponce and had a great experience, so that is why I chose them. Dr. Frayre is another surgeon who works with Dr. Ponce and I was told that they always do surgeries together, even though I can't verify that, as I never saw or met Dr. Ponce. I won't lie, the first couple of days were rough, and it was my first major surgery, so I have nothing to compare to, but I do believe I received excellent care. I am a total sissy when it comes to pain and I really think I have a lower than normal tolerance for it. I was in a sort of tiny hospital called "INT clinic"...only about 12 or 14 rooms total and I had a room to myself with bathroom and walk in shower. The nurses were great and so responsive, even though they spoke little to no English. My single port incision is about an inch long, and located not so much IN my belly button, but at the top of it which was different from what I thought. I have a very deep and narrow belly button, and they have to get all their instruments through that hole, so maybe that is why. I also had a very small drain incision. From my experience, I wouldn't say my recovery was faster with this surgery, but if you want less scars, this may be what you want to choose. You could save $1,000 and just go with the regular surgery and have 4 or 5 tiny incisions. But I am healing well after 10 days and no issues. I do believe Dr. Frayre and Dr. Ponce are accomplished surgeons. I was told Dr. Frayre had the sleeve surgery himself. This is long, but I hope this info is helpful. 22. I'm 9 weeks out. Thankfully I never experienced nausea, never threw up, never got depressed. I did have very serious acid issues when I moved to mushies - refluxed only once up into my throat but that was enough! Mostly it caused major belching no matter what I ate, like every 10 seconds for hours. Very serious quality-of-life thing, and I got to where I was afraid to eat, and was my one "what have I done" moment. It took me a few weeks to, first, figure out what it was (acid) - the reflux experience helped with that, LOL! - then figure out, with the help of my surgeon's patient coordinator, the right combination of things that work for me to get it under control. Once I did that it's been pretty smooth sailing. The other major issue is re-learning how to eat. Not what to eat, but literally HOW. Small small bites, chewed to dust, and a bite about every 2 minutes is what works for me, a 180 from my old eating habits. Takes me about a half hour or so to each 1-2 oz. of food. Hardest thing I've ever done, and would I do it again? In a New York second.

What's your best post op advice?

It’s going to be hard. Very hard in fact. Make sure you absolutely want to do it. You will most likely have regrets shortly after surgery. You can’t know everything beforehand. You can only prepare so much. Having said that, if you really want to make a lifestyle change and can handle the mental battle, it will absolutely be worth it. I agree with the others, your journey will be unique. I’m only 10 weeks post op and it took me until about 2 weeks ago to stop regretting it. I just focused on day to day. I’m still never hungry, I have no desire to eat, I don’t get all my protein in each day but I’ve learned how to create a routine. As mentioned, everybody is unique. I think it’s important for people considering this to know that it’s not easy. It might be the hardest thing you’ll ever do. At least mentally. But as they say, the things most worth achieving are also the most difficult. Good luck should you choose this surgery.

    Vitamins

I take a Bariatric Chewable that you take once a day!! It's from ProCare Health and it's $10 a bottle for 30 pills. I usually just swallow it whole. I'm not much on chewing vitamins. I also take Biotin, Vit C and Calcium. Plus I get an Injection of B-12 monthly.

    liquid diet help.....

I agree about the post-op schedules. I am on day 10 and can't start FULL liquids till tomorrow!!! Hard to believe. My Dr. is just very cautious and I respect that. Whatever works, though. I have a friend who had surgery a week before me and by the time I had surgery, she had already had eggs and fish even! I am going to stick to my surgeons plan for me, but most seem to do well with starting earlier. I think there is someone from overseas that started foods immediately post op. I think it's great if that's what works for them. (even jealous) but I couldn't even get gatorade to go down the first few days!! Wow!
