I am 15 weeks out and having major hairloss , I am taking biotin and zinc and using Fall Fight shampoo and conditioner ... I have to admit it slowed it down a tad but still losing lots for my taste . My surgeon said it will happen as your bosy is still recouperating and taking all the vitamins from less important places like hair/ nails . However he said don''t worry you wont go bald ... It will start to grow back ... -

I'm 8 weeks postop and could imagine starting a zumba class about now. I had a very easy recovery too. -
Dizzy, tired, nauseated and Weak
SD Kelly replied to msfitn2014's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sorry about the lost of your god mother. Actually I went to my 2 week post op appointment today. The nutritionist said these symptoms can be that you are not getting enough fluids. Hope everything works out -
I could drink water right after surgery. In my docs office this is the norm. With a new stomach I feel we all cautious at first . Over time you will drink more and more. After a couple of weeks I could chug water to a certain extent. You will also find your diebets will receed fast. Get ready and hold on tight its a crazy ride at times but worth it.

I'm not mourning food anymore
Laydee_G replied to IcanMakeit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
it's really great to read all your experiences. I am 4 weeks post surgery today and at first struggled with complete food obsession. It's getting easier now but I am still challenged by old behaviours (e.g. eating too quickly, taking big mouthfuls and even taking a mouthful of solid food when I'm still at puree stage which really hurt going down!) However I am learning from all of this that the discomfort of doing the wrong thing will modify my behaviours and also to give it time for my head to catch up with my new physical state. After all, I became obese by being a comfort eater and that is an emotional-psychological disease. I am hopeful the surgery plus some good counselling/group support will give me the control I need to live a much healthier life. Best of luck to all xxx -
Hey everyone! I am almost 3 months post op sleeve and down 60 lbs, woo hoo! I was just curious when other sleevers noticed that their weight loss stopped? 12 months? 18? Only 6? I am still hoping to lose a lot more and I am currently in a stall, so I need reassurance that I will still lose! Thanks everyone!

Too Much Love/Hate
Butterflyhigh replied to GentryGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yep. Total emotional binge eating day for you. It's good that you've identified why you ate like that...now you've got to figure out what to do instead of eating your emotions away. For me, this was one of the hardest adjustments to make in the first 3-4 weeks. I couldn't eat my feelings aways so I had to actually SIT with them...raw and painful and undiluted. I felt lost. Somehow I ended up driving my old 75 Chevy pick-up around the back country roads that surround me. Going nowhere in particular, I would just drive. It was a stress relief. I also found out that jumping up and taking a walk around outside does the same thing. We just need to replace the unhealthy food coping method with a healthy new coping method. Easier said than done.....but it can totally be done. It's Self Love. Show yourself some Love by giving yourself a new skill to lean on. -
Today had my first appt w/nutritionist, one scheduled for next week, then I'm done, then it all gets submitted to my insurance (BCBS), fingers crossed, c'mon BCBS!!!

Hi Everyone. I had my gastric bypass July 31st 2014. I am so happy I came across this forum so I can talk to other folks who also know what I'm going through. I am from Philadelphia PA. My pain 8 days out is MUCH better. My main struggle now is drinking Protein shakes, That taste and smell horrible to me. I asked my nephew and brother to take a sip of my Protein shake and they both said how good it was. I was shocked. I was NEVER a picky eater (I've eaten mealworms, fireflies, raw octopus etc) The one thing I am starting to contribute this to is my heightened sense of smell since the surgery. I can smell everything. Has anyone else had this problem? Does it go away? Anyway... I AM still drinking these shakes but its a tough struggle for me. Another big nasty for me are the HUGE multivitamins i have to take, my word, nasty. I hope eventually I can go on pill forms of my Multi, Calcium Nitrate etc. My 1 week post-op visit was yesterday. Everything looks great except for my blood pressure was high, which is concerning since I had my blood pressure under control for 5 years pre-op. I ordered myself a blood pressure monitor from Amazon which should arrive today. I'm also getting winded and fatigued very easily which is limiting my daily activities. Doc says 1-2 weeks after using my protein shakes I should start seeing an improvement. Hope so. I attached a recent photo of my so you can put a face to this text. Have a great day! Don

I am not going to lie....I was worried about this as well, but then after talking with my husband who pretty much said the same thing I knew this was the best choice. I feel that as I progress on this journey I am going to only feel better about myself and that will show in our relationship in good ways. Several good ways (def. not trying to be racy....but, how could it not help in that area). I am very happy that I did this. I am only a week and two days out and I just get better with things everyday. It is new and I don't necessarily care for change, but it can only get better from here! You will do amazing!! If your relationship is solid and strong, your relationship is going to be even better after doing this! Congrats on your journey and Good luck!!!

Thanks guys for the replies! Now I'm able to drink water but it has to be freezing cold. My surgeon stated that it could last a week or even as long as a month so hopefully this shall pass soon.

So I'm on my second week of my preopp diet. I've been on vacation so it hasn't been easy. I know I'm eating more meat then i should but i haven't had any carbs but my sugar free Creamer for my decaf coffee. I am praying i have at least lost 8 lbs or so by next Wednesday. No scale here. Cutting way back tomorrow and i plan to put myself on pure liquids Monday and Tuesday.

This freaking stall! HELP!
AvaFern replied to iamblessed1225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hear you on the stall. I am down 107 pounds and just cannot get any lower. I've been up and down 2-3 pounds for the last 6 weeks. SO frustrating! -
Hi Everyone! I will be getting sleeved next Wednesday. Having all the emotions that many of you had written about. One of the things that is making me nervous is that I have not told anyone- just my husband and my best friend from childhood. I guess I am embarrassed to admit that I need surgery.... On the 2 week pre op diet....do you think that broth from a Chinese restaurant is a bad idea? G

Are you measuring and logging your food? If not, you might find it helpful to start. There's no way to know for sure where (or if) you're off track unless you can look back at a week and analyze it. If you are already a logger, how many calories and carb grams are you eating per day typically? And are you certain you are continuing to drink the recommended 64 oz. of Water per day? I'm 10 months out as well and I find myself getting lax in that department. But it is really important.

If 42 pounds in under 11 weeks is slow then I don't even know what to think about my 48 pounds in over 6 months! -
I am going to 2 weeks this Thursday from my surgery. I am currently on puree stage. My question is as follows I have my meals and stop when I start to get the hip cup it's a sign that I am full but two hours go by and my stomachache is growling and it hurts as soon as I eat something it stops my pain goes away and my stomach stops growling. Sorry for the long post but does happen to anyone else? Thanks in advance for your input.

Hello all! This is a wonderful forum. So many questions answered and others popping up for me. I have Cigna insurance and I am not sure if it will be three or six months of prep but I am willing to jump through the hoops as long as I can see a VSG at the end of the tunnel. I am 57 year old female. I have struggled with anorexia and binge eating, both ends of the spectrum. I have been able to lose weight in the past, but have never been able to keep my weight down. The last five years, what worked for me before is no longer working and I get nowhere. Last year I saw a dietician for four months and lost three pounds and I exercised like a fiend. 90 minutes, five days a week. Three pounds in 16 weeks. It becomes very discouraging. And my company did not cover ANY weight loss services. Last year I hit rock bottom. This year I petitioned the CEO at my company and she immediately agreed that Bariatric surgery is something that a healthcare organization should offer as a benefit to its employees. Starting July 1 this benefit will be added to our coverage. So July 1 I am applying to start the process. Wish me luck! I will be here a lot looking for, and offering, encouragement, validation and support.

Hi Lovingdavid! Yes!!! I too had my sleeve on July 30, 2014! At first, it took some great adjustments (getting use to quantity of foods, etc). Doing really well now. Exercise in gym 2 to 3 times a week. I am a slow loser (weight), but I lost over 70 lbs! I will visit my bariatric team later this month for my one year anniversary! Hope you are doing well!

Surgery on June 15, In Missouri.
Brian88ss replied to grandmaofone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Unfortunately Dr doesn't like Milk of Magnesia, but did get told that I looked very good and it's normal for a Bypass patient to feel uncomfortable and bloated one week out from surgery. Once they took my drain out made some difference but not a lot was told to take another dose of Mira Lax and add some Bene Fiber to my diet and constipation maybe something I may need to watch for in the future. So until things get moving I will probably continue to feel bloated. So I guess I let nature take its course for now, just get in some more walks and stay active to keep things rollin' and Thank god I got friends in my corner to talk to. Thanks a lot for your soft shoulders to cry on. Brian -
My surgery was 01/28. Just started seeing hair loss about 2 weeks ago. It’s not too bad so far, I just hope it doesn’t continue for a long time like this.🙄 My pcp told me to keep up the protein shakes for a while and I’m taking biotin also.

Today is my first Thanksgiving since being "sleeved" on April 30th. My journey in pre-op began November 1st, 2013 and since then I have lost 140 lbs!!!! I am 22 pounds to goal, and I feel fantastic!! This journey has come with some sacrifices. It is not a quick fix, however, it is a wonderful tool, if you use it correctly! I exercise 5 days a week or more, I eat clean, avoid all carbs and sugars, and live on Protein, veggies, and a tiny bite of fruit now and then. I weigh and log everything that I possibly can on My Fitness Pal and I am sticking to an 800 calorie diet until I reach goal. I am bummed at times that I can't eat some of the yummy foods my family and others are eating, but I am in such a different mindset now that I get over it within minutes and I just keep on doing my thing. For those of you considering this surgery, I say DO IT, but keep in mind that it's not a quick fix and it won't make you "skinny" if you aren't willing to do the work. Yes, you can eat whatever you want in small amounts and lose weight initially, but from what I hear, keeping it off is the hard part. If you don't change/break those bad habits now how will you keep the weight off? That's been the struggle for us all along, right?? Just some "food for thought" on this food-laden day. Happy Thanksgiving, all! Stay healthy and eat healthy today (and a bit of exercise won't hurt, either). Your body will be thankful!
