Hi Everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas to spice up the pre-op Optifast diet. Where I am getting my surgery done, they only allow us to have 3 chocolate optifast shakes a day and 2 cups of veggies. I have been trying to drink the shakes for the last week but I am really struggling to finish them due to the taste. Luckily, I haven't cheated at all but I am worried about how I will do in the second week. The only suggestion the clinic could give me was to add coffee to make it like a mocha (not that great). I have also figured out the peppermint covers the smell but its getting old fast. Any help I could get would be great. Cheers!!

So. Wisconsin/No. Illinois....Dr. Blumofe
Harvest posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
If anyone is looking for a surgeon in southern Wi/northern Illinois I recommend Dr. Blumofe in Beloit, WI. I was just banded by her on June 23. She has a great support team working with her too. Dr. Blumofe has a fantastic bedside manner. When I meet with her it's like she's talking with an old friend. Medically Dr. Blumofe started her own lap band focus in January 2008. She does most of the lap band surgeries on Mondays. That way she has all week to be available if there are any concerns (her partner surgerons know nothing about lap band). Dr. Blumofe works out of the Beloit Medical Clinic and does her surgeries at the Beloit Memorial Hospital. As far as insurance coverage Dr. Blumofe has someone on her team who handles getting everything cleared. Whatever needs to be done to get insurance coverage Dr. Blumofe's team is willing to do. I have Health EOS and got full coverage approval rather quickly. -
Nov 11th - any suggestions
msnenequeenie14 replied to Denee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its a diet that the docs have you go on, anywhere from two weeks to three days before surgery, they usually tell you about it, but do be afraid to ask. My docs requirement was a two week liquid diet and lose 10 lbs before my surgery date. -
Day 6 Preop Diet-Not Feeling Well
lipstix64 replied to kathyv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow- that is rough. I only had to do a liquid diet for two days prior to my surgery. I just had my surgery on 0ct 16th and I habe to follow a diet of one shake a day, pluse clear soup, tea, crystaliite, etc. And, believe me , thats driving me nuts. I need food soon and caint wait until thursday nite when i can have 1 meal of soft protein. That goes for thw week and then it gets better from there.I cant believe you have to do liquid for over 3 weeks? If you are feeling that way, speak to your doctor. Thats not "head hunger", thats real hunger. Good luck -
Nervous upcoming surgery / questions
Betty1971 replied to GMS1213's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This sounds silly but a few things I wish I knew ahead of the game: Tylenol makes extra strength Tylenol dissolve packs where no water is needed 500mg packets (amazon) and it works so well when you don't need the high powered pain meds as it doesnt cause the constipation that the opiates do. Get a pack on hand as Walmart and such does not carry them that I can find. I didn't need much at all for pain where the surgery was concerned but I had headaches and couldn't take anything bigger than a pencil eraser and even that was difficult the first week. Walking may be uncomfortable but as early as the nursing staff lets you....walk walk walk and when you are tired walk one more time. The faster you can work out that gas from surgery will make your healing at home so much easier. As stated above just really try to get in that water and protein and everything else just kind of works out as long as you follow your diet plan from your surgeon -
You will be fine, all the post Rnyers have told me it wasn't as bad as the dreading they did before. I'm still pre surg myself but that's what I'll be having probably within the next 6 weeks. Just finished my pre requirement yesterday, let my Bariatric Facilitator know, isn't that a fancy term? and she told me to expect a call-back from the surgeon's office to let me know scheduling for pre op blood work etc. I live nearly 50 miles away from the hospital so will have to do everything in 1 day. My local hospital just recently started doing limited Bariatric but they don't do anyone with a BMI over 40 or RnY so I have to go to Columbus, our state capital. Don't be scared, it's the Gold Standard of Bariatric surgery, performed often and a lot safer than many other major surgeries. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Being banded on Nov. 2
Lorsbander replied to Robin Bird's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Robin- You will do fine. After you are banded you feel different about food. For me, I was on Clear liquids for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. I lost a lot of weight during that stage. It was a wonderful kick start. You start to see weight coming off on a daily basis and you do not want it to stop. I still go out to eat, but I don't eat very much and I am satisfied. It is fine. If ya sit and think about how much food is served to ya in a restaurant, it is crazy. I had Carlos O'Kelly's the other day and brought home the leftovers enough for 3 more meals! Here is some inspiration for ya! I was banded 11 weeks ago today. I am down 51 pounds, already halfway to goal! From a size 20-22 in August to a 12 today! I am alive now!!!!!!!!!:whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo: Surround yourself with supportive people. Tell people about your band, then there is more accountability! I know most of the people in my little town know about my band. They look at me to see if I am losing! That's great motivation! Best of luck to you! -

NYS Empire Ins ~ how long for approval?
tim h replied to isabella2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I'll be starting my 2 week preop diet on April 30th for my May 15th sleeve date. I've been trying to replace one meal a day with a Protein shake to help get me ready. I'm noticing i'm getting nauseous after I drink a Protein Shake. I've tried 4 or so different kinds all with the same results. The only one I haven't had a problem with is nectar, Fuzzy Navel. Has anyone else experienced this ? Thanks, Missy

I am facilitating a vision board workshop this week so I would love to hear about your experiences using this technique related to your weight loss journey. I have been thinking about making one but haven't made it yet. Have you made one? Has it been helpful for you?

Feeling Sick-May have to reschedule
Yvonne72 replied to Yvonne72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry- I'm not giving up... I just figure I'm not supposed to have the surgery this week... I guess I didn't realized I was getting sick and some higher power made it happen before the surgery to avoid additional pain... The cough is rough and deep. It will be very painful to have sutures and a cough! If I have to wait another couple of weeks, so be it. There are worse things in life than having to be patient! I'll call tomorrow to check in the surgeon and see what they have to say. No fever thank God! I took some tylenol earlier, but I can't get rid of this heaviness in my chess. -
They postponed me because of a sprained ankle :(
sms1964 replied to FarmGirl7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, I am so sorry. I would be devistated if that happened. But lets look at the positives.....You've been doing a killer job on your pre-op diet - EXCELLENT JOB - this can only be in your favor. It may only be postponed for a few weeks, so hang in there...we are pulling for you!!! Heal well,,,,:rolleyes2: -
Hit my 9 Month Goal!!!
To Be Thin 2011 replied to To Be Thin 2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I count my calories, carbs & of course protein! I try keeping the calories between 800-1000, carbs under 45 and my protien needs to be around the 70 g mark.. but again, I am a larger than normal person... I walk, outside if possible if not I am on treadmill... I do 3 miles approx 5 days a week. I really had a tough time in July & August.....looking back now, I really feel I was not pushing the Water as much. It also was a very socially active copule of months and enjoyed a few cocktails which impacted my weight loss. I am back on track now and so badly want to hit "onederland" by Christmas! I cant think of a better Christmas present!! -
Help I need ideas PLEASE!
GwSoccermom replied to GwSoccermom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your replies. I am eating the right size portions, but also hungry between meals. And I do not have any ideas for weekly menu/meal planning. I can never figure out how to plan and we only shop once per week. I need some ideas for all meals during the week. I also snack once in the afternoon (fruit or yogurt) and I cant lose my after dinner sweet tooth and always want something for an evening desert. -
Hello everyone.. I'm new to this site I'm 8 weeks post op. I take: Vitafusion MultiVites twice a day (Walmart) 1 sublingual b-12 Prilosec twice a day for now, as the dr thinks i'm having reflux issues.. (feels like something is caught in my throat ALL the time) Actigall 3 times a day for 6 months as well for gallstone prevention. 2 calcium pills daily Vitamin D once a week Biotin once a day. I was taking those pre-op as well, good for hair skin and nails, so I've just decided to continue to do so.

Pre surgery is to prep you so they want you to start Vitamin regiment. I am now starting month 4. Vitamins consist of daily Multivitamin (women's one a day has iron), B12 (every other day), B1 (every other day), Calcium (3 x 500 mg daily), Vitamin C (every other day). For first two weeks post you will not get fruits in except what you can do is on Protein shakes add some banana. Avoid things with seeds for 4 weeks (you don't want seeds getting into the staple area until it mends). Weeks 3 and 4 you will have mushies including smashed peas, mashed potatoes, pureed soup (yes puree the chunky Soups that have vegetables). Fruits in Protein Shakes. It is easier once you get going, you will find lots of things to eat.

Fast Track To Sleeve
traceyinflorida replied to evonnrae's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I finally made up my mind, I was READY to do it right away and was disappointed to find out I had to go through six months of insurance required nutrition counceiling. The funny thing is, when I finally got approval and got my date, I also felt like everything was going so fast and was overwhelming. I had been thinking about it for over six months and I was suddenly overwhelmed by it??!! I guess my point is that it is a big step in anyone's life regardless of if you have weeks or months to think about it. Getting nervous about it is completely normal. It sounds like you have taken the time to do your research on it and you are ready. A November surgery date still gives you two months to mentally prepare. With all of your appointments happening in rapid succession, it just seems like it is happening tomorrow. Take a deep breath, relax and look forward to the journey of becoming a healthier, happier you! (and know that I am green with envy that you didn't have to wait six months!! ) -
