    Out-of-pocket? Ohio

Hey also check, out BariatricPalMx.[emoji41]Hospital Alex Brecher the founder of Bariatric Pal was having a revision to mini bypass this week with Dr illan, if he trusts him with his own life the doctor has to be GOOD! And the prices there have got to be more reasonable than US or Canadian ones.[emoji13] Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    GIC Unicare in Mass- Anyone?

I literally got approved on Monday. I’m a medically required revision.
  3. I'm saddened to see that not one person has stepped up and responded to your post... NOT EVEN A MONTH after you've posted! That really doesn't show anything inspiring or motivating, does it? And, it's something we've all faced and had to get through so I know there are others with experience to share and advice to offer. I hope it's a simple oversight! I'm sorry nobody has said anything prior to this point, but I will do my best to help with offering my experiences. Even though I am new here, I have found myself in your shoes a few times since I've been banded in December 2008. I apologize for being a bit long-winded, but hopefully this will help? Possibly? Maybe? I hope so! My biggest hiccup (mental and physical) to overcome was my knee surgeries. Super short version, I underwent 4 major knee surgeries on both knees between 2013 and 2015. Of those, three were knee replacements. (The very first was botched by the first surgeon and required a major revision 2 years later. During that time I had a difficult time even walking without a cane.) Prior to the surgeries I was a gym rat and worked out every day. I felt great and the weight was flying off. Although I had lost 164 pounds and could see the "finish" line of my goal weight, I still wasn't there. After the surgeries, it took all my energy just achieving the most mundane daily tasks. Heck, taking a shower in itself felt like a workout and required a nap! To add insult to injury, I had such bad swelling in one knee it was shutting my muscles down. (I now have some atrophy in that leg. Yay.) I was mentally and physically drained. I felt sorry for myself and camped out for my own pity party for far too long and gained 84 pounds back. Here I am, 2+ years later and FINALLY back in a groove. (I still can't ride my road or mountain bike and probably never will because I don't have enough flex for the rotation. And, I can no longer kneel, run, or jump. Great.) It took me a long time to find my rhythm. To say how I found it, I wish I could offer some easy answer like it was this one particular GRAND FIREWORK event that sparked my motivation. It wasn't. It's as if I just woke up one day and was like, "Oh, there you are!" So much has happened in 8+ years and I have found myself on/off track throughout that entire time. I divorced in 2009 and just got married this past October. I've dated on/off in between that time (eating in restaurants constantly... ohhhh not good!) and had the huge detour with my knees like I mentioned above. Currently, I've got 54 pounds that I'd gained to shed... and then it's back to where I left off on my journey prior to my "detour". I started out this year 74 pounds heavier... so a 20 pound loss in 2 1/2 months is something I'm happy with! So, what can I surmise with all of this? Life happens. Plateau's happen. We get comfortable. We get unmotivated. We regret and feel guilty for our poor choices. Sometimes things happen by our own doing and other times it's out of our control. Don't get discouraged! Learn from your setbacks. Have a pity party, pout, scream, but move on from it. Don't camp out there like I did. Some suggestions that have helped me: 1. Create an inspiration board or wall and look at it every day! Put pictures up of the old you, the current you, along with things that motivate & inspire you. 2. If you don't feel like working out, FORCE yourself to! (The only workout you will regret is the one you didn't do!) 3. Look up a new motivational health/fitness quote every day! 4. Try a new recipe once a week. 5. Prep your meals/snacks a few days in advance. It makes it so much easier to grab/go. 6. Focus on just one pound at a time. Don't do the math of losing x-number of pounds by x-month & day. To me, that's just setting myself up for failure. Finally, this BIGGEST thing that's helped me find my groove this time around... the fact that I have come so far and refuse to go back to where I was. I've worked toooooo darn hard to NOT bust my behind and reach my goal. I can do this. I WILL do this. And, you my BariatricPal friend, WILL DO THIS TOO! You need to look deep within and ask yourself why YOU have made the commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
  4. Hi Lee, I'm 49 and almost 4 years out. I love being this age an no more periods to worry about. Just a few options to think about or try. Menopause and women having their period struggle. Hormones, water weight and cravings. Uggg the joy's of being female. I took the same route as @jess9395 I workout. Let the hot flashes work for you by walking or elliptical. Menopause will give you double the sweat. Getting in physical activity pays off mentally and physically as you go through the change. It is a bit harder to lose weight/maintain with the sleeve years out. Just know it can be done. The vet's have been talking about the sleeve holding more food after a year. I miss the tighter restriction. I can easily get in more calories. Honestly, My weight gains have been from me being complacent, eating more calories, carbs and sugar. I have to monitor/log and get back into the discipline and motivation that I had in the beginning to get the weight back off. Revision is an option. Question to the bypass patients. Years out can you regain by eating carbs, sweets and extra calories? What ever you choose,I hope you find what will work long term

    Seeking NYC Sleeve Buddy

Lapband removal and RNY in May

I had an emergency revision from Lapband to RNY on July 5, 2017. I had my Lapband placed 1/2010 and in 7 years went through a LOT of misery and pain (too many details) and only lost 32 lbs, then gained 12 back. Since my RNY last July, I am thrilled to have lost 43 lbs. I can even eat without being in pain for literally hours every day. I have very little hunger - and sometimes eat to live ... and not live to eat. I am now under my goal in less than a year. Don’t be nervous. I’m sure that one day you will also be saying it was the best decision of your life. It certainly was for me!

Lapband removal and RNY in May

I think this is a topic that I can help you guys with. Many moons ago (almost 10 years), I got the Lapband. It was put in at my highest weight...385lbs. I lost about 115 pounds in about a year...then gained back about half of the weight over a period of two years. My band was filled way too tight. The only thing I could get down was junk food. I had lost my health insurance at the time...which is why I lived with it for so long. Fills were expensive, I couldnt afford to fill/unfill. I had terrible GERD. I couldn't sleep at night without spitting up fluid. I was taking antacids (prilosec, tums, etc..) every day! Long story short, I got insured again and went back to the doctor. I found out that my band had dilated my esophagus because it was too tight! They unfilled the band and life was good again. I could eat healthy food. I actually lost weight once I could eat other things besides sour cream, ice cream, and salads drenched in dressing. Anywhoo...A few months later, I got the revision to RnY. BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE! The weight has come off slowly since the revision. Most revision patients lose slower than first time bariatric patients. It has been 2 1/2 years since my revision, and I am less than 25 lbs to my goal weight. I can eat healthy food with no problems. Broccoli, steak, chicken, green beans, apples...you name it...I can eat it. I now love whole foods and rarely touch junk food. One word of caution I have for everyone is that the surgery alone does not fix everything. In addition to the support of my bariatric medical team, I also do the following: 1. Psychotherapy: Address the reasons why you are a compulsive over eater. If you need weight loss surgery, you likely have a food addiction. Find out what is causing you to turn to food for comfort. I see a therapist bi-weekly. 2. Diet: Get rid of sugar, flour, pasta, bread, and rice. Those items are for thin people who need to maintain their weight. Not good for people who need to lose weight. Stick to proteins, vegetables, and a limited amount of fruit. 3. Exercise: Find some type of physical activity that you enjoy. Do it regularly. 4. Support: Whether it is spiritual or just a support group, find a community that understands the problems associated with obesity. It could be a church or a medical support group. I personally go to O.A. (overeaters anonymous) even though I don't follow "the steps". I go for the fellowship and the weekly reminder of where I came from...and where I want to go. Another tip... help answer questions on these boards. I don't do this often enough, but when i do, I find it is very therapeutic. Help yourself by helping others.
  8. To be honest, I was going to just deal with it but then I did research and found out that constant reflux can lead to some REALLY bad things long term... so that along with the discomfort is enough for me to try and get the revision. But I think I would have to wait a lot longer since I am so fresh out of surgery. And to be honest, I don't want to go through the process again if I don't have to. I am really happy with my results and my weight loss.
  9. I actually have not, I spoke with my surgeon a couple of weeks back and he said that my reflux is really bad and he suggested at me getting a revision as well. I haven't started the process with insurance or anything but I know that the meds I've been prescribed aren't keeping the reflux away. It calms it sometimes but most of the time I just have to struggle with it. I love my results from surgery though and this is one of my only downsides but I literally have never dealt with Acid Reflux before this.
  10. So you had a revision and it did not cure your reflux? Or at least help it? Have you contacted your surgeon? What does he say?
  11. I am patiently waiting to hear he remainder as I’m going back and forth with my surgeon now to reverse malabsorption of my ds I’m down to 119 pounds almost 2 years out my situation is not the norm either I had rny in 2003 gained 80 pounds back and did a revision to ds 2016
  12. It's crazy, I think no matter the surgical route, we all seem to have those potholes and detours reaching our weight goals. (I'm certainly no exception and I still have yet to reach my goal. I'll touch on that in a moment.) I haven't had any issue with my band... no leaking, no slipping, and I seem to still be in my sweet spot. I don't overeat like I did pre-band. However, I was eating more than I should for my band. My hiccup was my knee surgeries. I had been in such a groove and rhythm too! I was no stranger to knee issues... one knee underwent numerous outpatient surgeries from an accident at 9 years old. Fast forward to age 39, then I had a microfracture on what was the good knee. Six weeks later I had a knee replacement on what was the bad knee. Bring on the complications from a surgeon that made an error in placing the implant... fast forward two years to a knee replacement on the good knee (dubbed Robot Knee) and then a revision on the bad knee (dubbed FrankenKnee). Prior to the surgeries I was nearly a gym rat and worked out so much. I felt great and the weight was flying off... I had lost 164 pounds. After the surgeries, it took all my energy just achieving the most mundane daily tasks. I had such bad swelling in FrankenKnee it was shutting my muscles down and I now have some atrophy in that leg. Yay. Here I am, 2 years later and finally in a groove. I still can't ride my road or mountain bike and probably never will because I don't have enough flex for the rotation. But, you know how the saying goes... when life gives you lemon make lemonade. Now that I've learned to adapt to what I can do and stopped feeling sorry for myself, I'm back in my groove. I've got 54 pounds that I'd gained to shed... and then it's back to where I left off on my journey prior to my "detour". (I started out the year 74 pounds heavier... so 20 pound loss in 2 1/2 months is something I'm happy with!) Wouldn't it be nice if it was just a straight shot from surgery to goal? We're all strong and resilient and we can do this!!!

That's epic! Congrats! My Band to RNY revision is happening this Wednesday. Can't wait to get started!

Eating crispy bread at day 7

First and Foremost, don't beat yourself up or worry about what ifs. Focus on sticking to the diet they gave you to follow. As hard as it is, it's for a reason. Now, post-op diets are not "1 size fits all", for my Band to RNY revision I will only be on liquids for 1 day post op, purees start day 2 post op and go for a month, VSG's are on liquids much longer. Just do your best to identify why you strayed away from your diet plan and see what you can do to resolve that. Odds are you didn't do any damage, but that risk is there, so focus on finding the things you can eat and try your hardest to stick to your post-op diet.

Lapband removal and RNY in May

I'm having my revision on Wednesday, and I can 100% relate to the issues faced after having fluid removed from the band, I had a harder time eating the proper sized portions and for lack of a better description, I ate like an *rhymes with Bass Hole*, you know all the things you really aren't supposed to do, I did and I gained 8 lbs before starting my pre-op diet. But, good news is, I've lost 14lbs in 2 weeks thus far as of this mornings weight check. Just do your best, keep yourself in check and keep thinking about the reasons why you wanted WLS in the first place. Keep those protein and water intakes good and high, you'll be fine!
  16. I'm just one week post op from revision surgery and I've lost 10 pounds thus far. I'm hoping to lose another 40 pounds in order for me to reach my goal.
  17. Good morning i had my sleeve back in 2014 and lost 60% of my excess weight . So nowhere near “my” target. Over that 4 years , I was careful recording food and disciplined about protein , then veg etc but despite being about 1400 calories daily, I just did not lose the balance. I am 5 ft tall ( just) because of GERD, I had revision to bypass 8 weeks ago. The surgery has successfully resolved that , thank goodness i am now eating about 700 calories a day with 60-70 g of protein but the weight loss is still really slow. In 2 months, i have lost 16 pounds. What is the experience of others who had revision? thanks for your input

    Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery

Ugh! That’s a bummer. Was it the same surgeon that did the repair?( for the hernia) and your revision to bypass.. I have been told if acid reflux and/hernia were present before surgery for VSG it’s most likely the patient will have worsen cases of acid reflux (idk about the stomach though) Now that I know I have this hernia I think the doc might push for the RNY if I go with him. How are you doing overall ? 4 yrs later are you staying on track with regular diet and exercise [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila
  19. My panni was just denied by insurance. I have a *** and needed to get a reference from my GP to see the plastic surgeon then approval from my GPs medical referral bc the doctor my Bariatric surgeon recommended was not in their office (eyeroll). I have lost 105ish lbs and I need one! I’m wondering a few things and hoping you all can help me figure this out. First I’m wondering if I got denied bc the surgeon I went to was not out of my GPs office? They had one to give me but when I researched him he was a hand doctor who did plastic surgery also. Secondly I’m wondering if the plastic surgeon I went to was ridiculously expensive and that’s why it was denied. Tummy tuck was 12,500 and breast lift was 12,000. I know only the panni part is covered but this surgeon does both for same price. Thirdly and most importantly I’m wondering what my rights are to appeal something like this. I plan to call in the morning but wanted to get my ducks in a row and have a clue what I was going to ask them at the insurance company. Band to sleeve revision surgery 1/16/17 HW: 283 CW: 177 GW: 160
  20. I am feeling very anxious and somewhat discouraged waiting on my surgery, most of the water has been removed from the band and i am eating what seems to me like a lot of food and gaining weight. My surgery is still 2 months away come on May. Anyone else had the band to RNy revision and if so how is it going.
  21. I fasted in the evenings... my “eating window” was from 10 AM to 6 PM, but you can move the window hours to make them work for you! Just give yourself an 8 hour window in which to eat! It’s tough at first, but gets easier! The hardest part for me was planning for weekends when we’d go out to eat, etc... but you could start with just a 10 or 12 hour window and revise from there ?!?
  22. I'm waiting for insurance approval for revision from sleeve to bypass due to GERD. My acid reflux was tested and it is severe (the worst my surgeon has ever seen). I am currently maxed out on 4 different meds, prescription and otc. The refux NEVER stops. Is there anyone who had the same revision and is still having to take a PPI after bypass?

    Any DS or Loop/SADI patients?

I did SIPS on 12/11 as my only surgery not a revision in the Chicago area. Very pleased with weight loss. Off insulin pump and only on 2 pills a day for diabetes. Lost 50% of excess weight in 2 mos. very pleased with my results so far! SIPS procedure 12/11/17 SW 307 CW 214 GW 160
  24. I had a sleeve done in August 2010. Had typical post surgery issues, but lost and kept off 100+. Had hernia surgery 2x but reflux and gerd required revision. 3 weeks bypass post op. Now back to beginning but with less weight loss, excess terrible gas, insomnia, and depression. Need someone to talk through ledge sitting and weepiness.
  25. No personal experience but my surgeon performs duo switch to revise sleeve after weight gain or if loss is not enough.
