  1. Oh my gosh, I’ll be thinking about you! I’m sure everything will go great! I can’t wait to see and hear from you at 140!!! Amazing. I’m only 5’1”. Which surgery are you having? I’m having bypass. We’re going to be new and improved women (smile). You are almost there!!!!!

    February 2021 bypassers?

Has anyone experienced late post-op pain? My bypass was on 2/8/21, so I'm almost 5 weeks post-op. On Saturday, I started to experience a tight/burning-like pain on my left side (near that larger incision). I've spoken with my surgeon a couple of times to check-in and they said it's the internal sutures healing and could last 1-2 weeks! This is killing me! I want to get out and start walking and exercising but I feel like I can barely move! So frustrating! Everything else is going so well!

    December 2020

I had my surgery dec 2020. Horrible gout flair ups. Didn't know this was an added risk with surgery. When I called the surgeon's office they said I would have to speak with my primary. The primary was the one who cleared me for surgery so she was aware I had gastric bypass. Nothing was working for the gout and she put me on prednisone. Wish I would have questioned her decision but I figured she was the doctor. 4 days in on the prednisone I'm home alone at 4am and I started to hemmorage. Unlocked the front door and called 911. Long story short I was given 5 units of blood a couple units of plasma and was rushed to surgery. Called my Mom to say goodbye and to tell her I loved her. Took them 2 hours to stabilize the blood loss before they could start the surgery. That surgeon saved my life. Gout is still bad but I don't want to take any gout meds. Hoping it stabilizes soon.

    Any March Surgeries?

9 days down on the liquid diet! Honestly it hasn't been awful, but it's tough when I have to cook for my family. However, I am supposed to get the bypass, but now I want to switch to the sleeve. Any thoughts? Maybe I'm just panicking last minute lol

    Pre op Diet changes

I followed the guides in the packet I was given and after New Years Eve I started a 700-900 calorie diet. I was probably the only one who did. I’ve lost over 20 pounds and brought my BMI below 40. Yesterday I started the pre-op diet and it is HARD. Glad I didn’t do it cold turkey from my old high calorie diet, I’m struggling. I called out of work and slept all day. I couldn’t focus yesterday. Bypass Surgery is on March 22, 2021.
  7. I'm one month + post-op in the early days after the operation it was hard to eat food or drink water, now it's 35 days after the operation, I can now drink easily and eat upto to finish a 200 gram of grill salmon fish felt and few steamed cauliflower and carrot by chowing slowly. Is this normal,,, I don't feel stomach pain or another symptoms. Please share your experience [emoji120] Till date I have lost 22kg and the doctor is giving me a positive feedback [emoji5] Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app

All plans are different for everyone. You had the sleeve, and I had the bypass. I have noticed that different docs have very different plans. It is very confusing. I also noticed that it is very different for people around the world. It seems like the USA is very strict compared to other countries.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Good morning everyone. I pray all is well. I'm doing well, Just had one setback. I was in the hospital, had to have another surgery on yesterday. I was experiencing excruciating pain for about 4 weeks. I went the ER had a CAT scan they didn't see anything, the said I was having "muscle spasms.) so they gave me some pain medicine & nausea pills & sent me home. I still wasn't getting any relief. I couldn't eat anything; i felt like it was stuck at the top of my sternum. then I'd make myself throw up just to get relief. So i basically went back to the liquid diet to prevent that from happening. I called my surgeon was ordered to have a CAT scan with dye. Still everything looked normal. so he needed to go back into surgery so he could find something, an he did. when I had my bypass he removed a hiatal hernia. This time they removed a hidden which only be seen by going in. he also fixed some openings (spaces) he said because I've so much weight that sometimes happen. But aside from that, I feel amazing. I'm down 60 lbs. My coworkers have noticed a change in me. He put me back on a liquid diet, but little did he know I had already gotten back on that. I walk 6-7 miles a day, I got a gym membership, so yay! I Once I heal, I'll be back at it. I'm so proud of all of you. keep up the good work, We are blessed to be able to have this opportunity. I know a lot of people who wants this surgery, but their insurance won't approve it. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments.
  10. I had a lot of internal adhesions when they went in and did my bypass as it had been my 15th surgery but luckily they did not convert to open surgery. I heard it was close. It just meant a longer surgery for me. It also means a little more pain in recovery and little longer recovery but nothing that isn't manageable. If like mean you will also have a drain that you will go home with and have for a extended period compared to others, a nuisance but not bearable and then we have to be a little more careful about hernias and so I wore an abdominal binder longer then most as I had already had two previous repairs and didn't want this surgery cropping up another one. Overall, you will be fine and this surgery is so so worth it! It's nothing you can't handle. Just follow your doctor's order to a "T" and take care of yourself. We will pray for good results.
  11. I am a little over 4 months out from my revision and close to goal. At first I was scared that the revision wasn't going to work because it didn't feel like I had the same restrictions as I did with the sleeve and I am able to eat things I couldn't with the sleeve> With the sleeve I felt more restriction but as I heal more I feel it more and things have been moving along great and I am pleased with my weight loss. It is slower as I am so close to goal (only about 4 more to go) and I had my revision per reflux. So happy to have the reflux and GERD cured and am having no problems whatsoever in that area. I am happy with my revision and growing to love it more every day! I still walk 30 minutes and log my food daily. I focus on maintaining water and protein levels as I notice this is what makes the scale move for me! Good luck! You are going to do great!

    Help!

well, people have died from tonsillectomies and wisdom tooth extraction, but then...how many people are we talking about? Your chances of dying are higher than THAT, but the mortality rate is 0.3% of dying from gastric bypass, and lower for the sleeve (I can't remember the rate for the sleeve, other than it's lower). So you have at least a 99.7% chance of NOT dying, which I'd say are excellent odds. I think a lot of people - esp oldsters like me - remember the old intestinal bypasses and other weight-reducing surgeries they did 30+ years ago, and yes, those WERE risky. But the surgeries they do now are very different - and they're really no more risky than having your gall bladder out. They're safer than hip replacement surgeries, which are done every day. just do your research. I was very surprised when I did - my perceptions of weight loss surgery were proven wrong, and I'm so glad I had it done.

    Surgery is Tomorrow.

I definitely can say i have reading so much on gastric sleeve and bypass. I started out wanting to do sleeve. But after so much research. I learned that bypass would benefit me better.
  14. I've had a very uneventful post surgery. I actually wondered for a while if I had even had the revision LOL. The hospital stay was not much fun. I woke up with an extremely dry mouth. Get some Dry Mouth Spray to take to the hospital with you. I have had no reflux, acid, Gerd, etc.. I wish I had done this a long long time ago. Follow me or ask me anything anytime. I hope yours goes as well as mine. Oh by the way. I had this surgery in Birmingham. I live in Gulf Shores, AL We drove up, spent the night Monday night. I was in the hospital on Tuesday night , drove home Wednesday and I went back to work on Thursday. I work from home but still no down time. Best thing is no hunger! It is really amazing!
  15. @Tim C Thank you for your reply! This made me so glad to read! I know you just had the surgery, but do you have any issues with heartburn or anything so far? My only worry about getting the revision from band to sleeve are all the people I see here who are getting their sleeve revised to something else because of GERD, hernia, etc.
  16. I just had this surgery on 2/23. I absolutely hated the band and should have done this years ago. I could not get any salava to go down with minimum restriction. I finally just gave up. I had the sleeve approved and could not be happier about it. The surgeon that put the band in did the revision. I have had no pain and no hunger since leaving the hospital. I wish I had done this 10 years ago. Good luck to you. You have made a good decision.
  17. I finally bit the bullet and called up my doctor's office down in Florida who placed my lap band back in 2013, and I made a consultation for the 23rd to speak to him about a revision to a sleeve. I'm very excited to finally get the ball rolling on this and see if this will be a sure thing. I was hoping to not have to travel back to FL for a revision, but it seems this is really the best way to go since this doctor did my first surgery and his prices are reasonable so far (I am self pay). Anything I should prepare for before this consult? Any general band to sleeve revision advice?

    Any March Surgeries?

I had the bypass on 3/2 . Best of luck to you!
  19. I had gotten a fleur de lis tummy tuck on January 5th of this year, lucky my insurance covers it fully along with the breast lift and thigh lift I will be needing later in the months. I would highly suggest checking with your insurance and plastic surgeons who work with those to save you some cash then if you want to have scar revisions or smaller ones it will be much much cheaper.

    Caloric intake

For me the first 6 weeks after both my VSG (12/2019) and revision (8/2020) the focus was on protein/water and slowly reintroducing foods. After 6 weeks my calorie goals were 6-900 calories a day and a minimum of 60g of protein. Now that I’m at goal it’s 1000-1200 a day and a minimum of 90g of protein.
  21. I developed another hiatal hernia 3 months post VSG (had one repaired with my VSG. I then developed GERD, esophagitis, and hiccups. It was to the point that I was suffering with my work and sleeping. The picture is from my Upper GI. The stricture from the hernia was so bad my surgeon faxed over approval paperwork the day he called me with the results. I ended up having to appeal it over the phone while hiccuping the entire call with the insurance company but ended up having revision with hernia repair surgery 3 weeks after my phone call to insurance at 8 months post VSG. And technically while they remove most of the fundus you still have one even after VSG because it’s upper most part of the stomach connected to the esophagus farthest from the pyloric valve. Outpouching might be the beginnings of a hernia and coupled with the GERD might be what’s making the hiccups so bad.

    It’s got stuck!

That is exactly what has happened to me, just wondering if this is forever or an issue for people who recently had the bypass.. yes the weight loss is great but this is too much

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

I decided on the sleeve for this reason. I couldn’t get any clear answers even after talking to the manufacturers about either surgery but I know that absorption with sleeve is better than bypass. The best advice anyone could give was to tweak the extended release to immediate release and to go off my Medication that requires a certain calorie count for absorption. Also to just know that you may need to contact your doctor to adjust dosage and even change to a new medication entirely. I kept thinking LOW absorption doesn’t mean NO absorption so just increase the dosage and it will be fine but that’s not necessarily the case they say. However, after 10 years of fighting to find the right medication I thought I was on the only ones that would work for me and psychiatrist changed my meds PRIOR to surgery to help ease my mind that there was another medication that works for me. You don’t have as much time to do that but if you are still seriously concerned you could push your surgery date out a bit??

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Hi, I am new to this site as well. My surgery gastric bypass is scheduled for March 16th. I am worried about absorption of my antidepressants. Anyone else in the same boat?
  25. My sleeve surgery I’d have been ready by week 3 but had hardware removed from my knee during the same leave period so went back after 9 weeks. When I had my revision surgery it took a full 6 weeks before I felt better but my hemoglobin was really low after surgery causing me to be anemic. I went back to work 2 weeks after that. I had an internal hernia repair in November and was back to work after 2 weeks. Then in December I was hospitalized for 2 weeks (12/18-12/31) with a small bowel ischemia that required a resection. I didn’t go back to work until 2/16. Every person and every surgery is different but it’s totally possible to go back to work later in the week or the next week.
