Wow, I think you are losing really quickly. I can tell you, you lost significantly more than I did in the first two months, and I am not a band to sleeve revision and I started at a much higher BMI than you did -- two factors that are supposed to mean that you lose slower than me! But I thought I did great and so did my surgeon and team. Being up and down 2 lbs and losing in an exaggerated stair step pattern is very normal, don't stress about that either. Overall, you are doing great except I will say maybe work on your expectations a little

This has been a source of heart ache ever since my gastric bypass surgery on August 14, 2019. Right out of the gate I was losing at a slower rate then average And definitely slower than a lot of the folks here or in other Facebook communities. My starting weight was 285 and this morning I weighed in at 2:18.4 pounds. I am 5’6” and 41 years old. Since the beginning I have met all protein goals and on fluid goals and I have had zero complications from the surgery. All in all I live a pretty normal life considering I had my insides rerouted. Starting in January I added Orangetheory fitness to my regimen which is an hour long HIIT class. I go three times a week and It’s hard. Like very hard. I burn on average about 450 cal per class. My dietitian wants me to be around 1200 cal right now especially since I added the workouts. I have had starches and grains and that makes me nervous because I’m a lifelong dieter but my dietitian has zero concerns about carbs. Obviously she wants me to to be making healthy choices around carbs like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, etc. which I do. When I asked her point blank about carbohydrate goals for the day she said 125 g. I’m just feeling a little defeated this morning. I am almost 6 months out from surgery and was definitely hoping to be below 200 pounds right now and now I’m wondering if I’ll ever get below 200 pounds. I guess I just am looking for support or stories of people have gone through similar rate of loss and have continued and meet their goals. My doctor told me at six months it becomes much more difficult to lose weight. But for me it’s Felt hard since the beginning.I used voice text to write this so I apologize if anything sounds crazy.

Pevette and Pookeyism, Yes, I have heard of "upgrading" surgeries from others. In plastics, often insurance will cover a panneculetomy, but surgeons will charge the patient the difference to upgrade. I have hounded the insurance coordinator from a variety of angles attempting to get a price for the difference of the band removal and revision to sleeve. I am more than willing to pay a fair difference. I was told that it was fraud to submit on procedure code to insurance when in fact another was performed. They refuse to do it. Maybe someone with insurance filing experience can explain this to us?

BariatricPal Team MX with Dr. Illan
archrbo83 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just wanted to share with yall the great experience that I had when I chose to have my revision with BP Team MX. From the very beginning Bill was the best! The customer service I got from the first moment I contacted them was super! The whole process was so easy and rewarding. From planning the surgery, to paying, to all the communication! I would absolutely recommend this team to anyone and everyone that is thinking of going to Mexico to have surgery. The hospital (Oasis of Hope) was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. They mopped the floors in what seemed like every few hours. It smelled clean, appeared clean, and was clean! The hotel was very nice. I stayed at the Pueblo Amigo Hotel and Casino. It was clean and inviting. We were in suite and the room was very spacious and comfy! We enjoyed having the dining room in the hotel for our meals and the casino. We played the slots a bit and enjoyed that very much! We went site seeing with the Valet guy and he was very knowledgeable and gracious to us. We even had a valet guy come on his day off and offer to take us to Walmart for a few supplies. His name was Robert. We took him up on his offer! Went to the mall in Mexico The valets seem to really enjoy their job. Always smiling and very helpful no matter the need. This was the second time I went to Mexico for surgery and this was an absolutely rewarding experience. Stacy and Bill were there and answered any and all questions no matter what they were. This is the best company in my book because of the EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! IF you choose to go to Mexico to have surgery, use this team and you will be so glad you did! I already want to go back! P.S. I even met THE ALEX of BP! (I had surgery 11/24/16) TOP notch-A rated team and you will not go wrong using BariatricPal Team MX!!! -
Lapband To Sleeve- Have Some Questions :)
BrokeMyHalo posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have had my lapband since 2005. My starting weight was 230, my lowest weight was 174 (lasted about a month) and now I am at 265! My band is unfilled because I never felt full. I just felt pain when I ate (unless it was soft foods or liquids)...this was no way to live. I had a unfill and found out my port is tilted (most painful adjustment ever!!). I really want to lose weight and live a fuller life! I have been researching the sleeve and am hoping it will work for me! Any help with these questions is MUCH appreciated! -I read a lot of people saying sleeve doesnt work after having a lapband :/ is this true? I am SO scared of making a wrong choice -Is it possible to have a band and sleeve? -Why do more surgeons not offer the "net" around the stomach to help prevent stretching? -Weight loss aside; are you able to drink a small amount of alcohol (like a glass or two of wine)? -Do you feel like you get enough energy from what you eat? -Do you find yourself craving carbs or did the sleeve help kill that “I gotta have some bread and butter!!!”. Because even when I stuff myself with other foods, I still have that mental “but you didn’t have what you really wanted” feeling. -Since this is removing some of the stomach, do you feel like some surgeons are better than others? Like it’s an art? I am curious why some people fail and some succeed. Could it be the surgeons don’t remove enough stomach or do it wrong? I also ask this because I would consider going out of state (not out of country for a surgeon more experienced with lapband to sleeve. -Do you believe WLS is like breast implants, where you should prepare yourself that you may need to have “maintenance” done on it? Whether that be revision or additional surgery to correct complications? I explained to my boyfriend I always knew it was a possibility that I may need my band fixed or removed because I saw many patients with slips and port issues. -Can someone have the sleeve done 2x if they gain weight back? -My lapband surgeon is charging 22k for band removal to sleeve. Expensive! I already paid 19k out of pocket for my lapband, and it didn't work out. And I REALLY did try. This would be a 41k investment-- sigh. Many of my question stem from my fail with my lapband. Thank you for everyones replies... I have read this site over for days and finally wanted to post! -
Lapband To Sleeve- Have Some Questions :)
Threetimesacharm replied to BrokeMyHalo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am going for my revision on Monday. A couple of answers for you: they use a special sizing instrument so no, they can't not take enough, 85% of your stomach is being removed. No need to remove more later. I am going to Mexico and paying $5500.00 for revision, and endoscopy. What is a net around the stomach never heard of this........................... Hopefully you won't want bread and butter...............you won't be able to eat copious amounts of food ever again. Kind of like with the band, my eating since having it has never been as much as it was, just not able to. They also say that your food preferences change hopefully you won't want bread and butter. -
Cousin passed, had lapband now the family is freaking
socalgal3 replied to LosingIt08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am sorry for your loss. As you are considering your options, Lap-Band is generally thought of as less invasive than gastric bypass and a safer procedure. If your family is worried about the risk of complications, it is lower with the band. I also feel that there is too much you don't know about her passing. If she was already 5 weeks out, was she experiencing problems with the band? She may have had issues and the band is not necessarily to blame. Again, that doesn't make the loss easier to take, but it doesn't mean you should stop pursuing the band. -
@Tealael. What couldn't you find out... whether she's a pharmacologist or a PharmD? Now that I think about it, if she works in a hospital, she has to be a clinical PharmD. Pharmacists require a license to practice pharmacy. While PharmD's also study pharmacology, that is not the focus of their expertise. My daughter studied for 5 years plus one year of residency at a Veteran's Hospital. I'm very proud of her. Again, you're lucky that your program makes a concerted effort to help their patients with as many meds as they are able, despite the lack of data available for bariatric patients. I remember when I first brought up the topic of medication malabsorption at my first surgeon appointment. I could tell from Dr. S---'s expression that he didn't like how specific my questions were, and then, he surprisingly changed the subject. I knew then that I'd have to figure out my meds pretty much by myself... with the help of my kids and other health professionals whose egos allowed them to admit that there's not much research out there to go on. As for your questions about the requirements for COE certification, I found this link (below). I'm not sure, but I think a hospital can be a COE hospital independent of being COE certified for every program they're involved in. I don't think the hospital I had my bypass in was COE certified for bariatric surgery, even though it was a COE-certified hospital in other areas. I had two full knee replacements at this same hospital, and I don't know if they were COE certified for knee and hip replacements either. Too late now. Maybe if I have to have a brain transplant someday, I'll make sure it's at a COE-certified hospital for brain transplants! https://www.obesitycoverage.com/insurance-and-costs/pre-approval-process/center-of-excellence Some of the programs that a hospital can receive COE certification for include: bariatric surgery knee and hip replacement maternity care spine surgery transplants Oh, and I'm happy to have a new case-study buddy (aka someone who enjoys researching medical and scientific articles too!)

So frustrated with waiting for surgery

That's the best option acid reflux is the reason for my revision... Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App -
Welcome to VST! I was considered "light weight," but my bmi was 39.6. I know I've read of people who had vsg at bmi's between 30-35, but cannot remember if they were revision surgeries or not. I believe most have gone to surgeons in Mexico though...wish I had specifics to give to you. Good luck on your journey! I also started looking at the band first and so glad I discovered the sleeve.

OK my surgeon said he would not be repairing my hital hernia during the sleeve. He said its basically out of the way, where he will be working and that if I was having the gastric bypass he would do it. I'm fine with it :-)

FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY
Band07 replied to SOPHIAAGETTYS80's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My current weight is 180, my BMI is 30.9, my highest weight ever was 260, I know after living with a very restrictive band for so long that my body got used to less calories, I'm willing to do my part, I still go to Crossfit 3x a week and try hard to eat right, but I know I need a tool and right now I don't have one. Iv had a continuous slow gain since I revised to sleeve, it's just a matter of time until I put it all back on if I don't do this. -
FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY
SOPHIAAGETTYS80 replied to SOPHIAAGETTYS80's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just got the call from the new bariatric surgeon's nurse! My sleeve IS too big and will require a revision if I wish to do so! So I'm meeting with the dietician to stay on point and from there we will have a follow up appt to discuss next steps! Again thank you all for your kind words and support. I'm working on getting the surgical medical records for this DR to see now and I'll keep you all updated. -
My wonderful surgeon covered various bariatric surgeries and the success rates (and successful "reversal" rates) of each. He then went into more detail on the 2 he performs, banding and bypass. He described his "credentials" including how often he's done each surgery, what type of band he prefers/uses and why, etc. He discussed the procedure and life style changes required by each. He discussed the negative side effects (like hair loss and slippage, death...) and how much and how severe each is for his patients. Then he had a Q & A time (very patient) and THEN that great guy took another 20 min to just talk to my husband about it all (Husband is an RN who worked in a GI lab and was against it but was all for the band after doc and he talked and doc addressed his concerns) Afterward if we wanted we could immediately schedule a follow up appt, or we could take our time. No hard sell whatsoever. I immediately felt at ease and valued as a person, not just a patient.

MOMW replied to pedsnurse120304's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 7 months out and a slow loser. I have lost 45 pounds, but my starting weight was 218. I had a revision to a sleeve from a slipped band. I eat about every 2-3 hours. Breakfast is sugar free oatmeal made with milk. AM snack is a banana the 100 Greek yogurt with 1/4 c kashi lean crunch. Lunch is a vegetable and 2 protein-1/2 fat free cottage cheese or 2 light string cheese. PM snack is apple with 1 T low fat peanut butter. Supper is vegetable and 2 oz of some sort of protein. Night snacks are an apple with 1 T low fat peanut butter and 1/2 c frozen Greek yogurt. Hope this helps. It works for me. -
Revised from the Lap Band (ugh) to the Sleeve on 4/22/13... total loss since surgery 29lbs... Dr says I'm doing great, I thought I was going slow... I finally came to the realization, that I didn't put on all this weight in one day & I can't expect for it to come off over night... Even if it takes me a year, I know I will do it

Hi everyone! My name is Jhanette and I live in Miami FL. If you can image I'm 26years old and I haven't been to the beach in god knows how long. I just had my LAP-BAND®® surgery today 4/15/2010 and now I'm home checking out this site and reading all of these amazing stories. So here is mine. I've always been over weight since I was very young but ever since I turned 22 my weight seriously hit the roof. My highest weight was 285lbs. I started to look into the gastric bypass and was going to do it but in the end I chickened out. I was able to lose 10lbs by myself before I decided to join QWLC (Quick Weight Loss Center) and it did work! I lost 40lbs. A total of 50lbs on my own! But even though I lost that weight it was a battle to keep it off. I came to a point where I just stop losing weight and couldn't pass 240ish. So I started looking in to the LAP-BAND®® and after doing a lot of thinking and researching I finally woke up one day and set up an appt to see the doctor. It was on a Saturday that I went to strax rejuvenation in Kendall and I got approved for my surgery. 2weeks later I had my LAP-BAND®® surgery on 4/15/2010 with Dr. Michael Choi. So right now I'm super sore and but I'm feeling great! I'm truly excited about this journey and I can't wait to see what's next. Just wanted to share a long story with you cuz i was in the mood. Hope you all are doing well and losing all the weight u want. I wish you tons and tons of luck and I hope to be talking to you guys soon :tongue_smilie:

It is up to me to make this work. I have a friend who had a bypass several yrs ago and couldn't figure out why she was gaining weight back. She kept saying 'but I can't eat that much'. We would go to lunch and both would order a cheeseburger. I would get fries. I ate my burger and most of the fries (this is before my surgery) and she would eat half of her burger and just a couple of fries. She would get a to go bag and then mid- afternoon she would eat the rest of her burger and any leftover fries. She ended up eating almost the same thing I did. You will gain weight if you eat too many calories- the sleeve will limit how much you can eat at one sitting, but grazing is very easy and a habit I don't want to get into.

Does your DH or SO know how much you weigh?
TulipStar replied to cQQlgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
LOL...this has been a sore subject for me for years! My DH and I have been together for 12 years and I never would tell him how much I weigh. He is a thin person and can eat anything and never gains a pound (good genes). So, I went through lapband surgery and started to lose weight, then my port flipped and I had to have revision surgery. As I was in the pre-op room waiting for to be rolled back for revision surgery, my DH was waiting with me. The anesthesologist came in and just blurted out "You weigh 275?" I was like "yeah" yeah...move on, hoping my DH didn't hear! Then after my surgery when we got home my DH said, "Does it bother you that the Dr blurted out your weight". I said no...because I had already steamed about it. Oh well...after 12 years this was the only thing he didn't know about me. Now he knows EVERYTHING! -
The nurse said the same thing 2 weeks; I'm like are you sure? She said the most was 4 weeks;????????? I'm puzzled; my friend had bypass last year; at her 2 week mark she had to have gallbladder surgery; total 6 weeks out of work. I'm kind of worried because we are 10 days full liquids prior to surgery and 16 days after full liquids. ( 5 of those clear only) therefor the gallbladder has nothing to work for and can cause stones. They found 2 small stones at the bottom of my gallbladder ; hoping he takes it at the same time. I will know I guess the morning of : 7 more days. Whoooo hoop!

My kids start school exactly one week post op, will I be able to care for them?
bdisaia replied to cameron1209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt pretty good after the first week you might need a nap once you get them to school! You will be able to do it! By the second week I felt awesome ! I revised from the band also! I was sore but I was able to do what I had too .And I'm 54 so I've got a few years on you ! -
Wow, that advice seems really odd...my dr has a contract that I had to sign stating I understood I was going through a gastric banding procedure and that if any hernia was found, I would authorize any hernia repair. I had a large hiatal hernia he found during the surgery and repaired. So that just seems crazy. Is he possibly really into the gastric bypass procedure and believes you may do better with it? I would personally go for a second opinion. (I'm 4 weeks and 1 day post op also...so this is still all fresh in my mind. Had my first fill today and dr said I'm looking great.)

I am having revision from band to sleeve on Friday. My surgeon never mentioned anything about higher risks for a leak because of the band. According to their stats out of hundreds of revision procedures he's had one leak, which was small and healed on it's own. It's a major surgery, you never know what will happen I suppose. I also have to have my gallbladder out. So it's band removal, gallbladder removal, and sleeve. Unless he decides that needs to wait for a few months - which he said was also a possibility.

Do it this is me less than 6 months after my revision surgery . I self payed.
