Is Eating Fruit Like Eating Candy?
Candygyrl replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Thank you so much for this article. I needed to read this. I have been enjoying my WLS portions of watermelon, strawberries, grapes, blueberries and kiwi. I've been making smoothies paired with greek yogurt, Kale or Baby spinach and although I've not had any stalls in my weight loss yet, I often wonder would I do better without it? Listening to so many others in the community with their take on what we should and should not eat I have to cipher through the nonsense and do what makes sense. I will continue to enjoy my faithful 3-4 servings of fruit daily. Thank you again!!! -
All this sounds great, oh how I wish I liked yogurt and cottage cheese....

If you like peanut butter & or just want to get a good amount of protein out of a meal this is great. It's also almost like a sweet treat. Just mix together a 6oz. container of your favorite plain Greek yogurt, 1 packet of whatever calorie free sweetener that you use regularly & 2 tbsp. of PB2 powdered peanut butter. It gives you 145 calories, 23g of protein and 13g carbs. If you want less carbs just use one tbsp. of the PB2. It doesn't taste quite as good as the 2tbsp. though. So glad to have this in my food rotation. Try it!

Tasty Treat & High in Protein
AStephenson replied to deedeemuffin's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm still pre-sleeve but have been adding extra protein to my diet and in attempting to find a greek yogurt I like I added about a tblsp of natural PB and tsp. of splenda to yoplait greek. It was pretty good..and for after surgery PB2 would be what's needed. Building my protein arsenal! -
I had greek yogurt for my first puree food (3 weeks out) and a half a turkey sausage link for my first soft food. Both were great but I couldn't eat very much of the sausage! I thought I was going to eat the whole link (this is one of those small frozen breakfast links, not a big link) but I could only manage half. It was delicious and very satisfying though. I had a poached egg for one of the first things I had on puree and it was so delicious with just a little bit of salt and pepper.

Isn't it nice to get a taste of the real world? Did it go down ok? I hope so!!! I've been eating eggs, Beans, turkey, chicken, carrots, green beans, yogurt, some soft fruit, but the only thing I can finish at this point is the egg or yogurt. Let me know how you do when you start eating more...it all tastes very good, but I'm stressed over not eating the right amounts!

What's your favorite go to snacks?
Alex Brecher replied to need2bthin!'s topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm a huge fan of all greek yogurt. I try to watch the sugar and fat content. My fave is plain or vanilla yogurt mixed with fresh or frozen fruits. I have the Chobani Apple and Cinnamon fat free for desert often. I also discovered the Yoplait Greek 100 calorie greek yogurts. They're lower calories and have less sugar than Chobani and taste pretty darn good. Beef jerky is also a snack I enjoy often. My personal fave is Perky Jerky. -
I mean the small pieces that are in yogurt. Everything says yogurt is fine but not with fruit pieces.

Does anyone know when we will be able to have yogurt with fruit pieces?

@@Daisee68 How'd you do? I'm two weeks post op as of today. I haven't been eating much because I'm not hungry and broth, cream of chicken and greek yogurt can only be interesting so long. Need to "make" something.

Hi guys, I’m 8 days post op, it takes me about 1.5-2 hours to finish each protein shake, I take my time and go slow. So I know on the full liquid we are allowed yogurt and pudding, I honestly thought that would fall into the purée category? Also I can finish a yogurt which is about 4-5 oz no problem, of course I eat it super slow and kind of let it melt I’m my mouth and finish it in about 45 min-1 hour, so I want to know after eating I’m not full. I just feel fine and want to know if that’s a lot? 🥴 what are you guys doing? I’m kind of getting lost, how much are you guys tolerating 1week our from surgery? Would love feedback.

Sometimes restriction takes a bit of time to feel. Due to cut nerves. But I get what you're saying. For me, it depends on the foods that I eat, some offer more restriction than others. Like grilled chicken, denser proteins offer more restriction than say, Greek yogurt or crockpot shredded chicken. The bypass is just a tool, and it will not do all of the work for us, which I have to be mindful of now because when I had a lap band, that thing was so restrictive that almost everything got stuck and felt dense. So when you can, choose denser proteins and weigh/measure your food so your stomach and brain learns what your new "full" feels like. I didn't lose my hunger either like a lot of people do. And I work out and lift weights and that has always made me hungrier, especially when I started weights again at 6 weeks post op. I never experienced nausea, but I know acid can cause nausea. Are you on an acid reducer? -
It is interesting that a doctor would say no pills for month. I remember it being kind of difficult to take pills for a couple weeks, but did start 2-3 again on pills days after surgery. Today (11 months), I am taking pills of all sizes. I agree pudding or yogurt will help you with getting those pills down until you are fully healed.

Oh very important make sure the yogurt don't have fruit in them! No chunks

Vets: foods you personally can't tolerate?
septappt replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Chicken anything! Chicken is not my friend ! I can pretty much eat anything but I tend to stick with a chosen few foods that I constantly eat alllllllll the time. Chili, egg salad, tomato soup, quest bars, deli turkey, any kind of cheese and Greek yogurt ! Not much variety but keeps me within my limits -
I Need Some Suggestions.. Not Gettin In Enough Food I Don't Think
blackanese25 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK so here goes.. I am a texture person and the pureed food feel like im eating regurgitated foods.. sorry bout that one.. but seriously i can't eat anything with out wanting to puke. So far the only thing that i can eat and not feel disgusted about is Jello, and yogurt.. Now im not actually having issues eating anything in particular it just grosses me out. I can handle everything ive put in my mouth so far, eggs, chicken, tuna, relish, mayo, Beans, i swear you name it ive probably ate it by now.. im 3 and a half weeks out.. and im really afraid im gonna get the hair loss thing because im not gettin in any type of nutrients other than my Vitamins cuz i don't eat..I think i eat maybe once a day. The other problem that i seem to have is that when I DO finally try and eat something.. it feels like a block of cement going down my throat. its almost painful to swallow..Please tell me this isn't going to always be like this..I want to be able to enjoy food later down the road not have an issue eating in general. I don't know what im doing wrong on this pureed stage, and i can't wait for soft food because then maybe i wont feel so disgusted about eating. -
Week 5 Post Gastric Sleeve and Struggling
summerseeker replied to Jenn5120's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HaseenS I know its so hard, Keep going back a step when you cant go forward. I never feel hungry so its easy not to bother eating but I am so weak and wobbly I have to. I reached out to my dietitian and she said try crackers and soft cheese and breadsticks and soft cheese. Strained [ cream of] tinned soup. Tiny slivers of mature cheese. Yogurts and homemade milk shakes without sugar. Ice pops. My Calories are so low that I dont bother with low fat or fat free. I will sort that when I get onto real foods. -
6 weeks post op...now what?
MIJourney replied to ummsantos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with others protein always first. greek yogurt, refried beans, tuna or egg salad, fish, low fat string cheese or other low fat cheeses including cottage cheese. So sorry about your hubby:( Hope he's back soon. I have a friend who also had a leak:( -
I had my band done the day before yesterday and I am home feeling good. Little sore and the gas pains are kind of icky but other than that feel like a million bucks. I did the liver reduction diet or the milk diet as someone else called it too but the night before my surgery I did have on last bad for me meal just as a send off. I havent felt much hunger since getting home but am supposed to eat jello and yogurt and that stuff every two hours so Ive been doing that along with alot of fluids as they say to do. Its really not bad and I know it will all be worth it the first time I can walk into an ambercrombie ot hilfiger or some store like that and not have the little twig sales person look at me like Im lost! the best advice I can give you is use your pain meds in the hospital take the time to relax and when you get home just go easy and at your own pace Good luck to everyone :smile2:

Can I increase my protein this way?
OutsideMatchInside replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think there is a limit to how much protein the body can absorb, there is a limit to how much it needs for muscle repair. The rest goes into energy. http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/health-fitness/healthy-eating/know-your-nutrients/how-much-protein-can-the-body-absorb @@reachbree - I still mix some unflavored in my flavored mix. That is just personal taste. I also add a little unflavored to my yogurt. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery website says... Q: Can I take all of the protein in one dose? A: Protein should be taken in multiple doses, across multiple meals or healthy Snacks. The body cannot absorb more than approximately 30 grams at once. Also, protein is a nutrient that helps us feel fuller, longer. If we try to include Proteins in each of our meals or healthy snacks, we’re less likely to feel hungry when it’s not time to eat. https://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery My Dr made very clear that the body can only absorb so much at one time. There is a reason we take Vitamins apart, not just because some of them interact badly with each other. -
I found a way to get my protein in! Yay!
fd319 replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's funny I was hoping mine would change after surgery cause I couldn't even take any type of shake at all, i was hiding the flavor in Greek yogurt. I really can't wait to be able to have yogurt again. Ha. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I found a way to get my protein in! Yay!
Candygyrl replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on a roll. I mean really on a roll right around 8 weeks post op I was becoming more consistent with hitting my Protein goals and I was improving my Water intake. I wasn't up to 64 oz most days of the week but I was progressing slowly and was ok with that. I feel like in the last 2 weeks, I've taken 2 steps backward. I'm hardly ever hitting my protein goals, and somedays I wonder if I even drank anything that day. I drink enough not to have symptoms of dehydration plus I do drink smoothies (which I make with water) and eat fruit and veggies like strawberries and cucumbers during Snacks so I'm getting it in. I am still losing-- haven't hit any stalls just yet. I have some weeks where weight loss is slower but it's still a loss. Then it picks up again. Anyways the shakes make me gag too and I really liked them. Greek yogurt is challenging but I still work at it. I find that I just have to take it slow even if it takes an hour to get it down. I want to eat Protein Bars but I feel guilty about eating those so I'm open to all WLS hacks. This one seems promising. -
Help w/ protien powders ??
Michee replied to kitcatnap's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't have to do protien powders. You can use tofu, milk, and fruit to make a shake. If you are drinking milk or eating yogurt and eating fish/lentils/meat, you may be already getting enough protien -
I come from a family of overweight people. Parents, siblings, and now nieces and nephews. Due to infertility my children are both adopted and neither have the genetics the rest of us battle. Just the same, I have made a huge effort to ensure food is never a reward. The kids have a junk/snack drawer with everything from holiday candy to fruit snacks and granola bars that is just always there, so it's never really a treat or abused. They can go to the drawer or the top shelf of the fridge where their yogurt, applesauce, jello etc. is. Most times they puck the fridge. I think it's a combination of genetics and behavior. I'm not saying I am parent of the year, but in the area of nutrition I am proud of the foundation my kids have and hope they never struggle like I did.
