band superior to sleeve? In 2016 very few surgeons would agree. To many don't work as expected, cause complications, are removed, or revised to sleeve or bypass. Many surgeons won't even do them anymore. -

All of my December sleevers...
apricotsmommy replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved 12/17, and was a lap band revision. Down from 261.5 to 220. Bought a pair of size 18 pants today! First new clothes, but my best friend threatened to rip my baggy butt pants off me in public. Was a nice fight to have! Does anyone else get shaky after their first calories of the day? It's like my heart is pounding really hard. No gas or diarrhea, just the shakes. Doesn't seem to matter what I eat first (tuna, protein shake, cream of wheat, etc.). Any advice? -
Just got my revision scheduled for next Friday. I finally got the guts to ask parents for a loan. Mom said, it seems like a waste if the next baby is goign to mess it up too--I said yeah, BUT there may not be a next baby if I don't fix it. I'm gaining and gaining, and I was infertile before. She said she wondered that too. So I asked dad if they'd help me, he said go ahead and get the surgery scheduled and I can pay him back monthly. If/when it breaks again, post-2nd baby, I'll swap to the sleeve. 8am is preop, and 10am is surgery. So glad to be moving the right way again. Should definitely help with this funk I'm in!!!! I have so many clothes in my closet waiting for me to lose weight, I'm glad to think about wearing them again.

????Any May Gastric Bypass peeps????
rosemary79 replied to Salonboi's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Where in Indiana are you from?I live in New Palestine just east of IndianapolisI live in Pendleton and work for Roche Diagnostics. I'm waiting on my appeal for revision to bypass to be overturned. What's your story? I originally had my band placed in 2008, I had some early success losing about 50 lbs but after the first two years I got tired of fighting it. I resorted to eating around it. For the next 4-5 years I did weight watchers and a bunch of other diets (blah) with some success but the weight always came back plus some. My last straw was I went into my PCP last December and my weight was up to 263 (only 20 lbs shy of my pre band weight). I called that day and made an appointment with my surgeon. We discussed options and the RNY seemed the way to go. I didn't have any trouble with insurance, after my 3 month supervised weight loss, they submitted on a Friday and I was approved on a Monday. -

LiveLoveLaugh replied to loraine's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'll be honest with you, I won't sugar coat a thing..... Your what I call a big loser.... What I mean by that is you have over 150 lbs to lose. I'm a super loser with over 230 lbs to lose........ Now I loved my band at first but once I had good a fill with restriction I lost weight nice but not fast..... Then pop, wham had my first set of problems with the first bite attach is what I called it..... When I ate the first small bite of anything even chewed up and was a very small bite it would get stuck at the very top of my band...... The meal was over for me until it passed after hours.... I was hungry and could not eat a thing.... Went in for an unfill and that's when it all started... fill, unfill and so on until the weight started to come back on lsow but sure. We never could correct the problem........ I never got back to that perfect fill after 8 months of trying.... The sleeve does remove 85% of your stomach but I'm eating. I can eat just like a normal person with out over doing it anymore.... This was everything the band was suppose to do with out all the drama.... If I had the option back when the Band was placed I would have gone with the Sleeve the first time around...... Without blinking an eye...... I say that with all my heart.... I do not for a second regret doing the sleeve...I'm free of the food over load I lived with my whole life....... Take a look on ObesityHelp.com and go into the vertical sleeve section and read some of the results and the revision stories..... You have the power to choose....... Don't be afraid to remove your large unneeded extra stomach........ We big losers have created such large tummies we need to eat so much to fill them to be happy......Now I'm happy eating my small portions and don't feel I'm missing out on anything. The sleeve gives you room to eat yet not to over eat like we did to stay obese........... You ever want to talk I'll be more than happy to help in any way I can...... Cynthia Support meeting this month Thurs. 3/17/11 in the doctors cafe. @ 6:30 I'll be there and so will others who can help...... -
January 2013 Sleevers?
crystal525 replied to LenaVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm January 14! I'm in Maryland. My surgeon is Dr. Moazzez in Virginia. I'm a revision ... had my band out in April and gained 31 pounds since then. Band in at 254, down to a low (for a split second) of 175, up to 245 now. I've been eating what I want while trying to stay fitting in the few clothes that I have...I am ready to go back in the right direction. I'm scared that, while this is permanent, it still won't work permanently and I should've gone with the bypass (even tho I have never wanted to do that...). But i'm ready to start another journey. The doctor is confident that I'm a good candidate and will do well since I lost (although very slowly...) with a restrictivee only procedure before. Good Luck to you all. Crystal -
Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery
sifford1 replied to hayleylamas's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your metabolism re adjusts about 18-24 months. You basically have that amount of time to get used to eating right! I worry about banders. Your metabolism should do the same , kinda slows down, so what happens when the band comes off!!!! Is that why, when band problems happen , people need to get revisions! ? -
Band to Sleeve and other questions!
NoMoBand replied to iamshazza's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Bandproblems, If nothing is going through and you are completely unfilled, it sounds like you have more damage than what they can see. In my honest opinion and the little time I experienced in between being unfilled and revision, you will gain your weight back, even with regular exercise. Your old eating habits will come back, it's so easy to find that old friend again. One of my concerns was once sleeved I would lose the same amount of weight as I did initially with the band which would leave me skin and bones, but, it doesn't work that way. You will lose weight quickly while you are on the pre-op diet and then the healing stage post op diet, but, once you build up to regular meals your weight loss stabilizes. Your body weight is at a very different stage now before you had the band done and the body now responds differently to weight loss, so, no you won't disappear. lol As far as the stomach size they leave behind for a revision patient depends on how much surgical scar tissue the band has created, thus, this is different for every person, but, the stomach size difference is minimal. Google "bougie size" and you will see the difference in the circumference on the sizes. Once I completed the progression diet after surgery and began eating normally again, I eat the same amount as when I had the band which is about 1/2 a cup. In time, your sleeve stretches a bit and you eat a bit more. What I've researched is usually 1 cup. Last, a UGI only shows if things are going through or not. If you doc hasn't mentioned yet, I would ask for an EGD to see how much damage you may have. Depending on what kind of damage the band has done or doing, your doc may be able to get your insurance to cover the whole revision. Keep us posted. jake -
Band to Sleeve and other questions!
iamshazza replied to iamshazza's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi drewr, I think I would opt for the sleeve. Having lived with the band for 6 years. I haven't done very well with it and now it seems cannot find the "sweet spot" again. It only took once to be too tight and have to get unfilled. Now it seems like I'm in every 3-4 weeks getting filled and unfilled and filled trying to hit that sweet spot and it just doesn't seem to be there. I'm hoping to be able to get a revision from the band to the sleeve in January or February 2016. But, some people have had great success with the band too...It's an individual thing. I'd definitely go to a seminar and ask a ton of questions. Good luck to you! -
Band to Sleeve and other questions!
NoMoBand replied to iamshazza's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Drewer, I was a very successful patient with the lap band, until by chance, I discovered that it caused my esophagus some real issues. The scariest thing about my situation or what I now know was a blessing in disguise. I was doing awesome with the band and lost over 120 lbs. at the most successful point of my journey. I had no real obvious symptoms or problems, other than I could eat a bit more and had some very little night issues. My insurance company changed at work and so did the their bariatric service. I was forced to switch bariatric services and doctor and when I saw the new doctor, he asked for a UGI. To my surprise, the UGI technician told me to contact my doctor as soon as possible. Things took off very quickly after that and I ended up getting my band removed and revised to sleeve. Had I not seen the new doctor and UGI performed I would have ended up with much more damage that I had - Thank God! Wish I had gone sleeve originally. My vote: Sleeve 100%! Much luck to you! Jake -
My date is March 23rd......revising from a Lapband to VSG, I'm ready!!!

So I'm about to be told a whiner so bear with me. I have hit another intermission has been a week since I've lost anything besides the 4 pounds I lost briefly after my last intermission. Ugh. It seems like I might be one of the slow revision losers that has been mentioned before. Plus it seems that eating At work will become a chore. We only ever get 30 minutes to eat at a time. I may have to ask my boss if I can take an extra 10 to really focus on eating.

It is different because of the types of surgery and because I am getting mine done at Mayo most of it comes from research. I know I almost cried reading that "soft food stage/phase 3" is 6 weeks! I am getting a revision done..maybe longer recovery? -

I was 243 the day of my revision. After reading your reply, I am not drinking enough water and getting all my protein in on a daily basis. I will need to incorporate those two things as best as I can. Thank you so much for your input. -
Challenge start 288 Last week 282 This week 279 -3 I think it might even be a tad lower then that but TMI I'm a bit 'backed up' lol So I made my challenge goal of 280! I would like to revise it to 275. I've lost 9 pounds so far with this challenge and I know ill probably hit a little stall since I've lost so much, but think 275 is doable!

Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
bunnyboop replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I haven't told a whole lot of people as yet, but that needs to change within the next few days. My husband and kids know and 2 close friends know. Now that I've come through surgery in one piece, I need to start telling people. I don't think it's fair to not tell people the truth who ask how the weight is coming off. We all know how desperate we were to find "the key," to losing weight and telling people that we've cut out soda and bread isn't altogether true. We've cut out far more than soda and bread and not telling the truth is misleading, IMHO. I'm a very private person, so "going public," is hard for me. Nevertheless, I don't want anyone wanting to lose weight to cut out soda and bread and think they're going to lose the way I hope to lose (I had a band to bypass revision, so my loss will be slower than yours). For me, it's about being honest and accountable now that I've had the surgery and am starting on this new part of my life. Just my opinion, but there you have it. -
I did but I am not typical. I knew in my heart that the bypass would have been a better surgery for me from the start. I feared the malabsorption and possible complications from bypass so I opted for the sleeve. never experienced gerd in my life. Until after my sleeve. about 1 year post sleeve I had gerd and a hiatal hernia. Ended up having to revise to bypass. Some of the things that made me think hard about having the bypass in the beginning was that I did not want to have to do surgery twice. having said that, there are many people that do just fine and are successful with the sleeve.

I pee really well after surgery lol. I remember the revision surgery they said I had to pee before I could leave, so I go to pee in the bowl so they can measure it, and I filled up the entire bowl, it was like a 1/2 gallon! The nurse was shocked. Take your pain meds Jenn!! Woohoo Tracy, I will live vicariously through your weight loss. I won't even tell ya'll how much I weigh now, it's depressing. My only comfort is that as soon as Carson is here, I am tightening up the band and it'll all work out.. right? I picked up poor Gracie from the vet, after we dropped Russ' car off this morning. She was sedated luckily for the enimas, but they said they had to go in and scrape so she is on pain meds.. she's all big-eyed. Can't imagine what that feels like, hopefully Apollo will let her rest. After we go pick Russ' car back up, someone from Craigslist is coming to pick up one of our old tv's. Giving it away for free, just want to get rid of it.. wish we had someone else to help move the furniture out of the nursery, gah I am so irritated it's still not done!!! My parents leave for the bahamas this morning for a poker tournament my dad won a trip into, when they get back me & mom will be shopping for nursery furniture. I'm so ready to get it set up!

January 2013 Sleevers?
vonnegutk replied to LenaVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4 days post surgery and I do feel better today. I actually slept about 6 hours straight! Ingesting 64-ounces of fluids is quite difficult for me. I managed 42 ounces yesterday and this was tough. Focused on getting proteins and vitamins first then other fluids. More pain than I had anticipated, but I was comparing it to my lap band surgery 5 years ago. As for not having my Lap-Band - it is odd not feeling the port and always feeling the actual Lap-Band tight on my stomach. Anybody else have a Lap-Band / Sleeve revision? I am actually contemplating going back to work tomorrow - probably not a good idea. -
