So I haven't been on here for a while but had to share with others my experiences with the gastric sleeve. I had my surgery on April 12, 2016 the first 6-8 weeks it was going great some vomiting here and there while getting used to the new ways of life. Then the now and then became more and more frequent til I was vomiting daily. I this was not right so I had a long talk with the doctor he told me he was thinking i had a kink in the sleeve and sent me to a gastroenterologist. This doctor was sure it was a kink and scheduled me for a Esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD on August 12, 2016. The EGD went well for about 2 weeks than slowly I started vomiting again more and more, back to the doctor then to get another EGD on October 20, 2016. This time it seemed to do the job by the end of January I was doing good than the beginning of February the vomiting started again back to the doctor and April 25, 2017 EGD #3. I knew it linked again by may but I was sick of it so I decided to stick it out, BAD MOVE on July 27, 2017 I was rushed to the emergency room with Severe dehydration because I couldn't keep anything even ice down. July 29,2017 EGD #4. After that one I could tell it wasn't going to be long be i was back there and i was right November 8, 2017 I went in for EGD #5. After that last one it was a 100% different feeling not for the good but I pushed through and waited it out. I went in for my 2 year post OP appointment on April 10, 2018 (2 days before my 2 year) and doc was not happy to hear I am scheduled for my 6th EGD on May 10, 2018 so after looking at my labs and my upper GI from January I was told that my body is basically like rejecting my sleeve and my new lifestyle I have to live. So now i am waiting for a call from the doctor to start my new journey of having a gastric bypass done on my sleeve (revision) before I could think of what I should say I started crying and repeating "Why on earth did I do this to myself. I regret ever having this damn surgery". She calmed me as much as she could and now I'm waiting for this all to begin. When I was 18 months post OP my OBGYN gave me the go ahead to try for a baby. We decided to wait a little longer because he was working out of state. Now that he's back and we want to start a family I am told that I can't for another couple years. My life is crumbling and I am so disappointed that I can't start the family my boyfriend wants I'm even considering telling him to leave me and find someone that isn't a broken mess.

Hi Baripals! So I originally had VSG surgery in October 2012. At 253 lbs. the morning of weight in, I was pre-diabetic and had PCOS among other things. Fast forward almost 6 years, my doctor & I have made the decision to have a revision. I had initially lost about 95 lbs. and kept it off for 4 years until I had my son July of 2016. Even after I had him, I had only gained about 20 lbs. during pregnancy. I totally went off the "deep end" and started to go back to old habits like eating and drinking at the same time, not making healthy food choices, not chewing enough, eating/drinking ravenously, drinking carbonated beverages. etc. I was also switched on anti-depressants during my pregnancy and then switched again and then AGAIN! The previous anti-depressants had weight gain as a side effect on top of my poor eating habits. Doc. requested blood work and an upper GI test and confirmed I had dilated my pouch. I honestly feel like a failure but I know what I have to do. My husband will be going in to have VSG sometime this year too so I know I have to be strong for both of us. I don't want him to end up like I did. Has anyone else had sleeve revision. Any tips for this struggling mom?

A lot of people have reported on these boards significant gaining after having band removed (though theirs was usually at 5 years or less) - more general lap-band forums might report better band-removal stats though? Talk with your medical advisers, but as you are still 36 pounds from goal, would you consider a revision to gastric sleeve with the removal of the band? (seems to be common for both procedures to be performed at the same time as long as there isn't damage from band slippage). Once you recover you should find eating healthy foods a lot more pleasant than with the band, and the hormonal benefits of the op to help with hunger and metabolism? My mum wanted me to consider gastric banding 15+ years ago but when I heard/read about the frequency of vomiting and difficulty with some healthy foods like salads (and hadn't started having kids with my husband yet) I was not at all convinced it would be a good option for me. Now at 38 with 2 kids (and no more happening ) I'm having a gastric sleeve 2nd May and can't wait.

I had mini-gastric bypass in September and started having issues with reactive hypoglycemia after only 4 mos post op. I had revision surgery after having a band for 10 years. I originally planned to get a gastric sleeve, but the surgeon strongly recommends the bypass for patients who are insulin resistant (I'm prediabetic and have PCOS). The hypoglycemia can be scary and I find my diet is now far more restricted than a Type 2 DM diet. I've seen an endocrinologist and am managing with diet (low carb, no simple sugars, high protein, regular snacks) and with taking Glucobay 4 x/day and a calcium channel blocker at bed time. I have to tell you, I regret not getting the sleeve and wish I'd been informed of this relatively common phenomenon prior to surgery (it's connected to late dumping in my case). However, one must weigh the pros and cons. I wish you all the best outcomes. Kerri

Is There A Place Here for Lapbanders To Sleeves?
Suzanne A replied to maygoddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all!! I am also a revision-ist. Got banded in 2005. Fully unfilled by 2012 (by choice. tired of refilling all the time). My same surgeon emailed me and was preforming revisions now. I took him up on the offer!! Had the band removed and the sleeve done all at one time/surgery. VERY happy band is gone. Tired of getting stuck and ruining the whole meal. I am close to 4 weeks post op sleeve and am currently down 15 pounds. Super thrilled.....truly just for the idea of how much less I am eating. Was so disgusted at the amount of food I could take in at one sitting. Good luck to all those revision-ists out there!! -
Surgeon Uses Endoscope To Determine Sleeve Size
Mhy12784 replied to mitchjoann132010's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The surgical group I work with routinely uses a disposable 36fr bougie. However on complicated cases they have been known to use an endoscope instead of a bougie as it provides direct visualization. Is it common, no. But it's not unheard of. Of course this is very often on revisions or patients who have had/have a lap band in at the time of their procedure -

Hello! I am in the same boat with you. I had my band put in in 2012 and removed in 2017. It was fine for the first year or so then BAM, one problem after another. Couldn’t keep anything down. Sometimes even liquids. I couldn’t wait to get that thing out. The surgeon asked if I wanted any type of revision at the time of removal and I said “no” I thought “I can do this on my own” A year later I’m 30 lbs heavier and had a consult for sleeve this past week. I was told this is almost a 100% guaranteed approval because I have a very good BCBS plan. Only need one nutrition class (which I did that same day) and a psych evaluation. No waiting period. When they told me that, I got scared, nervous, excited. I’m reading everything I can, having doubts one minute then “I’M DOING THIS!” the next minute. I’ve been struggling with my weight for 20+ yrs. I’m tired. I’m ready.

So I've had an ulcer since my RNY 5/17/17 And my surgeon has now said the only way to fix it is to have a revision of my RNY...Has anyone had this happen? Also is the revision as bad as the first surgery?

So this morning I was trying to find something I saw here a couple months ago, it was a graphic of WLS surgery statists from the last recent years: number of procedures done, how many RNY, how many VGS, how many revisions.... stuff like that. It had information current up to 2016. I've exhausted myself trying to find it so I'm giving up and asking for help. If anyone has it or knows where to find it I'd appreciate it!

2nd Verse, Same As The First...
J_Mkay commented on Jeepinutah76's blog entry in 2nd Verse, Same As The First
I'm going through the same thing you are. My surgeon wouldn't do it all in one surgery unfortunately, but that's okay. I've had my band since 2010, had issues with it for years, they unfilled it and I'm back to pre band weight and then some. Had my band removed in Feb and now I'm going through the motions to get the approval for the revision, but from what I know and I've talked to insurance and they said as long as it's needed I should get approved. I have Fed BCBS too and I've not had any problems getting anything approved before, so I hope that's the case this go round as well. Good luck! -
Is There A Place Here for Lapbanders To Sleeves?
ByeByeBandHelloSleeve replied to maygoddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, band placed in 2012, weight day of surgery 255, lost 30 lbs. in the first year, gained it back plus some since then, current weight 263. Going in for a revision to VSG on May 8. Hoping to connect with other revision people as well. Would like to see a forum dedicated to Band to VSG Revision to see more stories. Have a great day! -
Hey Everyone, Just needing to get thoughts out there. I'm a revision from band to sleeve. I've had my band removed and hopefully I will have sleeve surgery this summer. I'm going through all the motions for insurance approval. The time between is giving me alot of time to think. I'm excited for the chance to finally lose weight successfully. I'm excited that maybe for the first time in my life I may possibly fit in "normal" size clothes. I'm excited that maybe....just maybe....with the weight loss I can maybe have children. I'm excited for the opportunity to not ache, not tucker out so darn easy, and just feel good for once. And I'm also scared.... I'm scared of failing. I felt like a failure with my lap-band (even though I did have issues with it, even my surgeon said he won't even put them in anymore because of the complications many lap-band patients have), but I can't help but be scared of failure because I've failed so many times with trying to lose weight. I'm nervous too... I've never been "normal". I was a 10 pound baby...so I've been fat since birth. I have no clue what it's like to be what you would call normal. I don't want to say thin because I don't desire to be thin, I just want to be at a healthy weight....and I have no idea how that feels. I was a fat baby, kid, teen, and now adult. I have no real idea what life will be like. I know it will have to be better than how I feel/look now, but the unknown is scary. Thankfully my husband is very supportive, but I get nervous that he won't want to be with me anymore if I do lose alot of weight. He assures me that he doesn't care what size I am because he's in love with me, not my body (smart man...lol) but I can't help but have these fears since we began out relationship with me being the fluffy gal that I am. Sorry for the long post....there's alot rolling around in my brain. I know that surgery is the best option for me, my doctors have been very encouraging, My mind just like to run emotional marathons....too bad my body hasn't. haha. Reading through the forum has always been helpful and encouraging. Anyways...thanks for listening to my ramblings.

Is There A Place Here for Lapbanders To Sleeves?
maygoddess replied to maygoddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone for coming by and sharing your stories! Glad to hear a few of you have had some success..albeit slower than the newbies. I am 9 days post op now. Started full liquids 2 days ago. I FINALLY am down a few lbs post op, but showed a 6lbs gain after surgery..so today I am now at where I started pre-op. Everyone said it is water weight from all the IV fluids..I did feel like my feet and legs seemed a little swollen the other day. I started drinking Weightless tea from Traditional Medicinals and that has probably helped. It is an herbal tea for temporary water weight gain. Now would like to see some weight loss BELOW my pre-surgery weight. I gained 50lbs (but at least kept off the additional 80 I lost with the band) after a complete unfill in 2014.I would LOVE to get back to 150 where I was for years before my band issues started in 2014. I figure it will be slower than the first time and given when you have less to lose. So how do the rest of you recently revised feel without the band? One thing I noticed right away..I can drink before going to bed and not have to worry about it coming back up and choke on it! I don't drink a ton..but before I couldn't even take medicine at night that required me to drink fluids with it..that's a plus.. I have not been terribly hungry..the clear liquids stage was hard only because I got tired of just broth, jello and juice. I didn't have any pre-planning time since this was emergency surgery to get any clear protein drinks or anything else..so was limited. This will be an interesting new journey for sure! -
Lapband removal and RNY in May
Lyne13 replied to Missfree49's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the lapband surgery in May of 2017. It never worked for me. I rarely felt restriction even with a full band. In January of 2018, I had the band removed (due to GERD) along with my gall bladder (had stones). I recently was approved for revision and I'm scheduled for RNY on April 26th. My insurance even allowed me to use my diet visits from the lapband preop since it was just last year! I can't wait! Good luck on your journey! You can schedule within a month or so. I go through OCC and did for my band also (this is revision), and they are excellent. They gave me a pre-op diet I am on now and I spoke to a doctor before I scheduled. I speak with the nutritionist through email all the time for diet help. -
mgb LAPBAND to MGB - Please share your stories
NikNakNoo posted a topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
Hi there, So i had a lapband put in in 2009, had inital success with it for the first 4years, then the problems started... Food kept getting stuck despite having fill taken out, i had CONSTANT SEVERE left shoulder tip pain, and left side stomach pain to the point it hurt to breathe and i couldn't function etc! I Lost around 50kilos in the time i had the band! i was happy til i was in constant pain and vomiting all the time! I couldn't even get greek youghurt down in the end. I started to gain weight back because i could only eat crap & slider foods. It was so frustrating! I decided although i was apprehensive to have my band removed (in November 2017) and im currently back to my pre banded weight almost! Im crushed! i have a 2 year old son who i struggle to keep up with & want to be a fit, healthy, happy Mumma to him! SO....... I've had a consult with Dr Brendan Ryan in sydney to discuss my options for revision! I originally leant towards a Sleeve, BUT in my research & medical advice i now see that RNY or MGB is best for me success wise & for maximum weight loss! So iv chosen MGB & im suddenly frightened! Is this op going to work for me, will I WORK WITH IT & BE SUCCESSFUL!? Will i have complications, & massive vitamin deficiencies, what about future pregnancies (Dr said i could have a baby again but have to be monitored closely etc) What about having a social drink etc (i rarely drink but like to let my hair down a few times a year) I think im overthinking but im also a worrier & scared im making the wrong choice..... Those who have had revision from Band to MGB please share your stories, Pros & cons, Success with MGB etc I need to know these are all normal thoughts?????-

Is There A Place Here for Lapbanders To Sleeves?
AASosa replied to maygoddess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just had my revision April 4th 2018 Had Lapband surgery in 2012 lost 75lbs with it and found them again over 6 years. Decided it was time to get it removed as I couldn’t take the stuck sensation Any longer! Starting weight March 19th was 330 stuck to a liquid diet for breakfast lunch and a light dinner (chicken/beans) lost 11 lbs before surgery on 4/4/18. Since surgery I am down 6 lbs sticking to my clear fluid diet and learning how to deal with the new stomach over the last 48hours. -17lbs into my weight loss journey
