    I need reassuring. ..

I'm assuming your very recently post-op? Focus on hydration only...First and foremost. At this stage don't worry about protein because protein won't matter if you become dehydrated. You get dehydrated and everything gets messed up. Smart water is plain water with electrolytes. With such little water consumption and diarrhea you are quickly going to dehydrate. Water, water, water. Keep us posted
  2. I may just be freaking out but.....Today I am 2 weeks post-op. I feel great! I have been meeting my protein requirement of 70 grams per day, I am drinking Premeir Protein. I have been meeting or exceeding the 64 oz fluid requirement, I have not had any issues with drinking. I have not been eating much more, here and there I will have 2-4 TBSP of yogurt or cream soup 1 or 2 times a day but have not gone over the 4 TBSP. Sometimes I eat this, sometimes I dont. I am still on full liquids until Wednesday. I am averaging 400-500 calories per day. My Surgery wt wat 257.0, came home from the hospital at 265.0, lost the water weight and was back to 257.0 after a couple days. But.....I have been at 250.4 for the last 6 days. Not sure what I am doing wrong....not enough calories??? Is my body just adjusting?? Any thoughts or advice would be awsome..thanks!
  3. Thank you for creating this thread. I have had avery good experience with my sleeve. I was thinking it's made of steel also. I am a month out I tolerate well.I drink more than 64 ounces I get in 80 grams of protein I think I have researched read too many stories. I was terrified. When I woke up from surgery the pain was tolerable. I haven't really posted because when I read all of the trouble other people have I feel guilty.. Thanks again It's nice to know others are having a good experince

    March 30 Sleevers?

Mine was March 30th too. I am at soft food stage. I started swimming and I feel great. Next week I will start some abdominal exercises. Honestly I returned to work after just 1 week post op. I'm taking all my Vitamins and getting in my Protein shakes smoothly. I lost 37 lbs and for the past two weeks my scale didn't move at all. Otherwise I feel great. I don't have any regrets at all. Drink a lot of Water, don't skip your vitamins and Protein Shakes. They'll give you energy. Oh and I started wearing smaller clothes . Excited to continue. Question About Liquids

I am Day 10 post-op. I get in 64 fl oz of Water per day, but it takes me all day to do it. I am noticing that I can sip more at a time now -- verging on what I would call a gulp. It takes me 2 hours to drink a premier Protein shake. I am seeing improvements every day, so I feel pretty good about where I am right now. I hope this helps. Good luck!

    Protein Drink Inquiry

Weightingtolose, keep in mind that your body can only absorb between 20 and 25 grams of Protein at a time, so you won't do much benefit (in my opinion) by having a 50g Protein Drink all at once. I have tried the bottled isopure and thought it was horrible. It's no fun if you've got to choke it down. I really like the AdvantEdge Carb Sense creamy chocolate. It's not bad and it even satisfies my chocolate craving. For a few weeks after my surgery I had a really hard time getting all the liquids I needed, so the thought of having to drink the shakes was not appealing. ........I rave about the liquid whey protein test tubes wherever I go because they are a great option. It is a 3oz testtube, and you can choose between the 25g and the 42g protein tube. I buy the 42g and split it. I'll drink half in the morning and half in the afternoon to tide me over until dinner. By splitting it, I get 21g of protein at only 88 calories! And because of the protein, it really fills you up. A word of caution though--the orange is sickly sweet. I like the grape and fruit punch best. Virginia

    Protein Drink Inquiry

I haven't tried the Isopure shakes but I did buy Isopure Zero carb drinks for after--during my clear liquid phase (I'm being banded on Monday, 5/7). Dr. Curry's dietician, Erin, recommended them for post-op clears to make sure I'm getting my Protein in. She said to make sure they are REALLY cold when you drink them so they taste better. I also bought unjury chicken broth that has a ton of protein in it--and I signed up for SparkPeople so that I can record my intake to make sure I'm getting enough protein in. Erin recommended getting anywhere from 60-80 g of protein in daily--she told me to try and shoot for 80 during my healing phase. I also bought some samples of the Unjury shakes--chocolate and vanilla--and they are really good--I mix them up with a ton of ice cubes and a packet of splenda and they are good. Good Luck! Amy
  8. I have yet to have my surgery but plan to schedule mine for May 23rd or 25th. I have a question in regards to pre-op / post-op diet. Has anyone tried Isopure Protein drink while on the pre-op / post-op diet? If so, do you think it helped curb your appetite, hinder your ability to lose weight, etc...? My husband is a health NUT and was telling me Isopure has the MOST protein in shake form on the market today. Someone on one of the threads was using it but stated it made them gain weight. Two scoops of the chocolate flavor contains 220 calories and 50g of protein. What are others using to fullfill their protein intake? Thanks everyone!

    Protein Drink Inquiry

Hi, I was wondering about the following..Weightingtolose, keep in mind that your body can only absorb between 20 and 25 grams of Protein at a time, so you won't do much benefit (in my opinion) by having a 50g protein drink all at once. I have tried the bottled isopure and thought it was horrible. It's no fun if you've got to choke it down. I really like the AdvantEdge Carb Sense creamy chocolate. It's not bad and it even satisfies my chocolate craving. Hi,Could you tell me if the AdvantEdge Carb Sense is the same as the liquid whey protien test tubes? I have not heard of either and my surgery is in a couple of days. I live quite remote so was thinking of purchasing the necessary "stuff" before the surgery. I just want to be prepared before hand. Plus, where do I get them? Thanks for all the good information, as I too think I will have a problem with getting enough liquids down. Shar Virginia

    Practicing for the Band

Hi Teri! Yes, I too have been practicing. I'm trying out a few Protein shakes/drinks to see which ones I like and want to start stocking up for pre and post surgery liquid stage. I'm thinking about ordering the samples on the unjury site. Chewing forever is hard for me to get. I know I have to get better at that. It's hard. Someone at support group said not to wait too long to eat when your hungry, as you tend to eat faster because your starving. And some tips I read here were to put your fork down in between bites. I even read to use small children's silverware so you can't fit much food on it. I haven't tried these tips yet, but I'll probably try them out. Good luck to us all during these pre-band months.

    Stalling too early!

Your body is adjusting and needs time heal. The best thing you can do for yourself is to put the scale away and focus on getting in your protein. Your weight is going to fluctuate as you lose/retain water, put on muscle from exercise etc. Stepping on the scale everyday does more harm than good. Hang in there and trust that if you make smart choices regarding food, protein and exercise, the weight will come off. You can do it!
  12. Weak Immune System?

This sounds like a good question to ask your doctor. First, make sure you are at minimum getting in ALL of your Protein and Water and taking your recommended Vitamins and supplements. I have HEARD that taking extra D (in addition to what has already been directed) helps but don't know for sure. I hope you are feeling much better soon.
  14. It seems like this would be a good way to get in fluids and protein in the early days. It seems like many people are having trouble getting enough fluids let alone protein. Seems like this would be a good way or am I missing something?

    colds when sleeved?

My surgery was Sept 8th. At my 3 week post-op mark, my kids brought home head lice. I had to clean like a freak, do massive amounts of laundry and treat & check 3 heads, plus mine. My hubby just shaved his hair. Lol! I paid for it by over doing it and actually ended up taking some pain meds I had left over, plus some valium from having my hiatal hernia repair done at the same time, as well. Because I over did myself, I ended up getting sicker than a dog with a nasty head cold. I had been down for 4 days and completely exhausted. I could not function. Then my 8 year old comes home with a concussion. Oh dear God! I am at wits end. I literally cannot handle anything else right now. My husband has been a saint thru this whole thing. I ended up calling my Nut because I was having extreme pain in my left shoulder on my collar bone when I would eat. It would last for 15 minutes afterward. She told me to take a step back in my foods and go back to really soft mushies. October 7th, my birthday, would have been the day when I can eat normal foods. My nut said it is a referred pain from my hiatal hernia repair. My esophagus is enflamed, as well as my hiatal hernia repaired area. So, eating won't be as easy again until the swelling goes down and the coughing settles down too. I also have to increase my Protein in take to 100g and no less than 64 oz of Fluid everyday. My body is trying to still recover from surgery and is also really trying to fight a nasty cold. So, it doesn't leave me with much of anything to have any energy at all. I am grounded to the couch for another 2-3 days to recover. I've already been there for 4 days. I think I've grown roots already. Ha! I hate just sitting/laying down doing nothing. But, I also feel horrible. I've also been advised not to go to a funeral that is out of town for obvious reasons. Either have to take care of getting myself feeling better and stay on the down low or end up in the ER. So, I am being a couch potato and sprouting roots. Being sick with the sleeve in the 1st month of recovery makes everything about 10 time harder. Trust your doctors and keep healthy, even if you have to post pone. Hopefully, my light at the end of the tunnel will appear in the next couple days. I am so anxious to not be sick anymore and just focus on becoming the healthy me again!!!
  16. HI, I'm on day 5 from post-op, but each am, I wake up like I am in a room full of smoke. Everything is fuzzy and it takes about 1-1/2 hrs to clear up? I'm getting plenty of liquids in and protein shakes. I'm also spilling large amounts of ketones in my urine, but doc seems to think that is normal (ketones break down the fat!) but can be dangerous with folks who are type 1 diabetics like me. Need to look out for vomiting and more nausea. Just wondering about the fuzzy vision in the am... Anyone else have that? Six holes in my belly, but all are good but one... Still sore in one spot so that must be the one where they pulled my stomach out of!!
  17. @MelTed, I looked it up, most people know it by Emend, so glad it worked and worked well for you. Hope it is an option for me as well as most everyone on this thread.👸Happy Surgeries to us all!!!!
  18. I had my sleeve on July 18th, 2017. I am 9 weeks post op. My highest weight was 222, surgery weight day I weighed in at 210 and I am 190.8. I have been following the diet to a T. My sister who had the sleeve surgery done a few years ago eats cheetos, drinks soda and ate crap food and the weight just FELL off. She started at 225 and is now at 143. For me, yesterday I had a protein shake, two quest bars and a few bites of chicken salad. In total about 750-800 calories. My doctor told me to stay between 800 and 1000 calories but the weight is sloooooooooow to come off. I have read others that are eating between 300-400 calories a day and it's working but my doctor says NO to that as it throws your body into starvation mode. Can y'all tell me your input on this? Should I lower my calories anyway?? I'm feeling very discouraged today and really don't know if I should be eating more or less... Thanks for your help!

    returning back to work

I'm back to work 6 days post op. I make sure I drink my fluids, add flavorless protein to them if I can't get a protein shake down. I'm in a desk job and going back was not a problem AND I thought about good less keeping busy!!

    How long for this stall?

Yes, I was sleeved 3/6. For the last week I have lost and gained the same 2lbs The doc told me today it was normal. That in the first couple of weeks you lose because you lose water and muscle. Then it will take your body a little bit to adjust. I know I weigh day and night lol. She said the same, weigh once a week. Keep up on your protein and water. It will happen At least it better

    Conference food?

Just back from another out of town meeting. I'm glad I brought some Protein bars along because the gluten free was interpreted as vegan for the plated meals. I'm going to be more specific in any special requests in the future rather than trying to use a more conventional special request. Next time I'll request high protein, low carb, low fat and no sugar. Still feel really fat

I agree with the others ... you have to take in protein! you've put your body through something major ... and it needs that fuel to keep it going ... because you're not taking in other types of fuel right now ... Don't let this one thing sabotage your success ! Keep plugging along ... you will get there!!!

    Eating Real Food

I agree that it sounds like a lot of food, but my plan calls for 3-4 oz portions of Protein 3 times a day starting at 2 weeks! No veggies though. I can't finish that much in one sitting, so I just portion it out, and eat what I can in 30 minutes. I was told to stop eating at 30 minutes (assuming I'm not still hungry), rather than sitting and trying for an hour just to get the full portion down. ~*~ Find me on YouTube: Trisha's Sleeve Story ~*~
  24. I'm 8 weeks post-op. My doctor wants me to be eating 3-4oz protein per meal plus 2 servings of veggies each day. My issue is that I hate eating the protein! I chew and chew and chew, take small bites, and it still goes down funny. Anyone else have this problem?

    Does Feeling Full End?

I guess it depends on what you mean by "feeling full". I no longer go from feeling fine to "OMG, I'm going to explode!" in one bite like I did for the first 4 months or so. But I do still get "full" feeling to where I don't want to eat anymore pretty quickly. It's just not so painfully uncomfortable now. Like, I just had my morning protein bar. It's 2.22 ounces. And I definitely feel too full to even want to take a sip of water right at this moment. I'm 17 months post-op.
