  1. I eat lunch at around 1; go swimming in the early evening, and eat dinner around 7. Sometimes I have fruited Greek Yogurt by itself. Occationaly I will add vanilla flavored low fat/carb protein powder (and some splenda). Makes for a good prework out snack.

    5Th Day Frustration

I know this is only my 5th day post op but I'm getting friggen tired of this stupid liquid diet already!! I do know how important it is for my stomach to heal but if anyone has any suggestions for something "new" I would appreciate it. I've been through popsicles, lipton cup of soup, thinned yogurt, crystal lite etc. thanks!
  3. Mine was a 2 week "full liquid" diet, 1000 calories per day. I was allowed juices, soups, protein shakes, yogurts, sugar-free jello and puddings, that sort of thing. And then for the last 48 hours before surgery, we had to switch to clear liquid only - we were allowed anything you could see through, so it was mostly juice (apple, cranberry, grape, that sort of stuff, nothing like orange), broth (chicken, beef or vegetable), and only clear protein drinks (I got some from Isopure, at my local GNC). The point was to shrink the liver, to make the surgery go better. My surgeon said I did great, that my liver looked really good and that surgery was a breeze (mine was last Thursday).
  4. For me, the fifth week after surgery was when I noticed my old habits whispering in my ear. I had physically recovered completely, I was hungry again, and I could eat a lot more than 1/2 cup of food and still not feel satisfied. It terrified me. I felt like I was going back down that familiar slippery slope. Today, at six weeks, I had my first fill (4cc in a 10cc band). I just ate lunch of 1/2 cup of tomato Soup and about 4 spoonfuls of sugar-free yogurt and I'm definitely full. (That would not have been the case yesterday!) I am so happy that my tummy feels satisfied again with a small amount of food. It reassures me that this band will work! If you haven't had a fill yet, just be patient with yourself. Try not to overdo it, but know that you're eating more because your stomach is telling you you're hungry. When you get some restriction, it will be much easier to eat less again. Hang in there!

How are my May buddies doing?

Congrats to you all!!! It sounds like we are all moving in the right direction. I was told not to lose too fast also. It is disappointing sometimes, but I am trying to follow the doctors instructions. After all, if my way was working I wouldn't be this big. I have a lap band consultant at my doctors office. When his patients visit him they also visit her. She helps with the lifestyle changes that go along with the lap band. She gives us tips on eating and cooking. She recommends no more than 1200 calories, 60 carbs, and 60 grams of Protein or more. The more protein you eat the better. With every meal I try for 20+ protein and as little carbs as I can. I do not eat anything unless their is protein included. If I eat a sugar free pudding I eat a piece of cheese also. I eat a lot of plain Greek yogurt. (I add Protein powder or vanilla splenda flavors to it) I eat a lot of fat free cottage cheese with no sugar added peaches that come in a snack size cup. Being on the go all the time is the hard part of dieting and eating right. I found the Atkins frozen meals that are delicious and low carb high in protein. After a long day and not wanting to cook pop one of those in the microwave. Easy breezy!! I also take one to work now and then for lunch when I forget to make my lunch the night before. I might eat out once a week. Usually when my husband comes home on the weekend and we go out to dinner. I used to eat out for lunch with the girls at the office and a lot of times at night on my way home I would grab something to take home. This is the biggest change that is helping me lose. I want us to give each other new ideas and tips. I by no means claim my ways are right or the best, and I am open for more suggestions. After all we will be doing this for a long time and you get burned out on the same things very fast. Keep up the great work ladies!!!

    July RNY Page

I started at 264. Surgery on July 16 at 241. Today I am at 182. I am ok with it all. (amount of weight loss) I have had 4 strictures and 4 endoscopy/dilations and working on my 5th. My diet is for the most part liquid to include things like chili. Most of the time yogurt. In less than 6 months I have lost 58 pounds. I know some others have lost more in the same amount of time. Even in just 2 months! I have 6 more months to lose roughly 30 pounds which is totally doable. Also with my slower weight loss....less loose skin!

    Yogurt

I just looked up the nutrition stats on a couple of the flip flavors and in my opinion, the carb count is too high. My preference for yogurt are the dannon light and fit greek yogurt followed by the oikos triple zero. Other breakfast options I use are low fat cottage cheese or a scrambled/hard boiled egg.

    I'm sooooooooooo hungry!!

Anca, I can NOT believe he filled you at 2 1/2 weeks post op! The ONLY thing that helped MY hunger was a small mcdonalds shake. Not protien shakes - only the mcd's! Id have one a day. Before I started having this daily, I was doing some serious cussing... b/c ALL my tummy did was growl! Like Ive said before, mcd's shakes are made with yogurt, not just plain ice cream. It may be a mental thing, but they sure helped me!
  11. No problem. Glad I could help. It is definitely a lifechanger and I am happy to be on the other side. Today was a real test, and made it through the large meal being like "egh". I will be happy when I can go to some cream Soups and yogurt in a few days. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
  12. I was sleeved on 6/23 and developed gastritis after week one. I am having a terrible time making the switch too. Everything makes me nautious and I gag, then vomit. So far I have managed to keep down Almond milk, Greek yogurt, SF pudding, mashed bananas, and SF Popsicles. Water alone is too harsh so I add a touch of flavoring. I haven't been able to keep down any protein I've tried (chicken and tuna). I also have trouble with protein shakes. Any suggestions folks have that may help would be appreciated!

    Keto vs. No Keto

You estimated that you eat over 100g carbs daily... But this sounds like an oddly high amount of carbs for just yogurt/tuna/beans/citrus. What kind of yogurt, salad dressings and sauces are you eating in addition? Ex. Chobani blueberry vs Chobani plain yogurt You may need to incorporate less of the carb dense foods (beans are carb heavy, but fiber heavy too) with salads like with 1/4 cup of beans instead of just1 cup of beans

    Purées Not Going Well

The change in your taste buds can really make things difficult. I couldn’t eat some of my favourite vegetables & proteins for quite a few months so I hear you. Don’t worry, they will start to taste yummy to you again as you progress. I found nothing really tasted good on the purée stage until a friend told me she could successfully eat puréed poached chicken with lots of gravy & chicken stock. It was probably the salt from the gravy & stock that made it tastier lol. I ate a lot of soups - strained & puréed - as they seemed to go down more easily. As did yogurts. Take it slowly to introduce purées especially if they are causing you discomfort. Start with one purée meal a day. You may be someone who needs to go through the stages more slowly - it’s not uncommon. Good luck.
  16. Thanks a lot for the spirited discussion - this seems to be an issue for many. First, a little misunderstanding - they didn't tell me to follow a < 400 cal diet. It just comes out like that with the supplements I picked. I am not sure, maybe there were some with more calories and I just happened to pick the lo cal options (and seriously, that would be the first time, LOL) My real goals are 64 oz. of water/beverages and 60 g of Protein - and I don't have a problem with either goal. These supplements are the ones I have to use in the first two weeks after surgery for the healing period. And the healing aspect is the only reason why I am not straying away right now. I once had a wisedom tooth poking through my gums leaving a very small hole which happened to catch a little bit of food and leaving me with a bad infection. I envision a similar scenario for my stomach staple line if I eat anything but my shakes and broths. I played phone tag with my NUT today which was really annoying and I sent her an email now asking for advise. I am not sure what she'll say, I wasn't very happy with the last few times where she advised me to use a potassium supplement instead of drinking natural coconut Water becasue of the calories (Zico coconut water has 60 calories for a bottle). I thought that was absolutely ridiculous. My follow up appointment is on 11/18 and my 2 weeks post-op are over on the 15th but I am at a point right now where I am looking at the damn supplements and rather eat nothing than that stuff because I just can't stand it anymore. From what I understand, other people start full liquids already during the second week - is my surgeon overly cautious? I had bought a few Soups before surgery, these http://www.pacificfoods.com/our-foods/carton-soups (Chipotle Sweet Potato, Roasted Garlic Mushroom Lentil, Poblano Pepper with Corn) I was wondering if I could blend and eat them? How about some yogurt? I could mix some Greek yogurt with herbs and spices as a heart option? How about mashed potatoes - thinned with more milk than normal maybe? I am just a few days away from "full liquids" I need some hearty flavor or I'll go absolutely crazy!!!

    Protein Drinks

Has anyone tried fat free frozen yogurt and blended it with the protein? I was going to try that and see if that was better. I bought the whey protein egg white protein. I'd have to have three shakes of it a day to get in enough protein with what I am drinking. I'll get more if I had some skim milk with it too. I am also having a hard time getting that many liquids down during the day. Just banded yesterday.

    My Diet....

If you like yogurt, I mix my protein powder in with my yogurt. I make my own yogurt, so it is tart. Adding the Vanilla protein powder and some pumpkin pie spice makes it taste like holiday cheesecake.
  19. Mashed potatoes boiled in chicken broth and mashed with Greek yogurt and a little milk. Ground sautéed turkey seasoned with broth and onion and garlic powder. After cooking, chop super fine. Gravy: Low fat cream of chicken Soup mixed with Greek yogurt and chicken broth. Layer and eat...Delish and went down well and stayed down!

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Mine is March 9. I had two weeks of mostly meat and veggies (yogurt and jello or popsicles for snacks) and now I am on two days of “liquid” which is protein shakes, jello, popsicles and yogurt. I am dreading dinner cause it’s going to be so hard to convince my mind that a shake is enough (although I was fine for breakfast and lunch so I know it’s in my head)

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

I had my surgery Feb 18th. It was a struggle for first 3 weeks, but now that I can enjoy some food it has become easier. I am down 32 lbs. I like to make my own chicken broth, has so much more flavor than cans. Yes, I know it has more fat & calories, but you need something in your stomach to make it happy. I do also have Bryers non fat fudge bars..this soothes my stomach. Water: at first I was sipping small amounts as directed. I am able to drink large amounts as long as there is no food to push it down and stretch stomach. I verified with my Dr. So basically I flavor my water with sugar free crystal light, lemonade country time and can easily drink 8-12 oz in 30 minutes if I wanted to. I am now eating sautéed soft fish with spinach. It digest well when your at 5 weeks. Poke is a good one too cuz it will digest, Cottage Cheese, scrambled eggs topped with tsp of non fat Greek yogurt. You can do it. It will be worth your suffering. 🤗

Hey there all I am happy to announce the I now am also an August Bander, 8/28/03 I weighed myself yesterday 9/2/03 and have already lost 10 LBS YAHOOOOO. Boy some of what you guys had to go through was a little crazy. I went down to Mexico on 8/24/03 to party and vacation for a few days before my surgery. I got to the hospital which was beautiful at 7:00 am, I was in pre-op at 7:50am, then the OR at 8:15, I looked up at the clock at 8:30am and they told me they were putting me under. I woke up at about 10:30 am and was in recovery, then at about 12:00pm I was in my suite. I was up and walking around 4:30 pm and was drinking chicken broth, Apple juice , Water and Tea at about 6:00pm. I was released the next moringing at about 10:00am. I hung out in Mexico until 8/31/03 and am now home and drinking my fluids and taking nibbles of yogurt and pudding. Can you beleive it 10 LBS Well I will talk to you all later. Congradulations on all of your successes, it is great that we can all count on eachother for support!!!! Keep up the awsome work. All my love, Nicole:banana

    TLBC-ers, help me out!

wow, this is tough. It would be easier if I was doing it outta fear for my life like last time! (and if my work didn't have such a nicely stocked vending machine, and I didn't walk downwind from Tim Hortons each day) Now I think "Geesh... just a couple of days ago, I could eat what I wanted!" It seems so long ago. I'm looking forward to the hot sauce doused chicken breast.... soooo much. I'm lucky I'm not a big fan of yogurt as it is, cause, I can see yogurt (and CC) turning into the new Optifast! I have seen scale movement though, so that's always motivation to keep it up!

Slow Users-Banded a year or more

Hi tdosal, In the meantime, while you are waiting to get a de-fill (if you should decide to do that) you can have things like hummus, or a combination of rice and beans, milk, yogurt and eggs or egg whites if you can't handle whole eggs. I would see how you do over a couple of weeks, as sometimes adding food makes our body have to adjust and then it will realize you aren't starving yourself and use those extra calories. At least I'm certainly hoping so! And that's the theory I've heard. Mary

    Week 1 Help!

I was on Clear liquids for the day of surgery and the day after and then moved to full liquids for the next 2 weeks. Anything that pours off a spoon (no chunks) - yogurt, pudding, soup, smoothies, Jello, Protein drinks. Your dr's office should be giving you some guidance and hopefully access to a nutritionist. Good luck.
