Well our date is coming up in exactly one week! WOW! I am on day 14 of my 21 day liquid diet and have managed to lose 13 lbs so far (I've cheated a few times but have kept the cheats healthy and low calorie). My husband and I joined a gym yesterday. I went to Costco and was able to find everything I needed post op including the chewable multi-vitamin, chewable calcium and sublingual B12. I am ready.... :-)

just be carefull. I got my surgery date august 8th, we set it for october 2nd, in that time i had to lose 30 pounds. I am seriously addicted to food. Anyway, i spent this period doing the be good for two days thing, fall off the wagon because "well, I still have a lot of time left." so eating whatever i wanted. I would always tell myself, this is the last time, sh&*, I've been telling myself that for the last ten years. I finally weighed myself the day after my preop phone consult, tradition scales do not weigh me. I had to order one and have it overnighted. I had only lost ten pounds. I had to call my doctors preop nurse back on friday and tell here I had only lost 10 pounds. She told me that my dr office is really being sticklers about the weight loss thing and 30 pounds means 30 pounds. So if I don't lose twenty pound by the second I will be canceled. I weighed friday at about 5 in the morning, and again saturday at 3 in the afternoon and had lost 5 pounds so far. So, I may make it. I guess my whole point is, for me anyway, the one last time, or one last week to eat how i wanted to didn't work, because the way I am now, it's never one last time. Just make sure you lose the weight you need to in time, so you don't have to do what I'm doing, aka 500-600 calories a day, it is rough. Espically since I know if I do make my surgery date I will never get to have one of thoes binging days again, ever. And they are about my favorite thing in the world. So I am really depressed right now, seems like my best friend just moved away, i hope it gets easier, the whole not being able to eat the way I used to thing. I just love food. As my consult weight of 505 pounds would attest to. Anyway, I had a succient point at first, sorry for all the rambling crap. hope everyone is doing well. brian

Pre-Op Liquid Diet How Much Did You Loose?
SunnyCox replied to gingersnap's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was for one week. I lost 9lbs. I was on mushy foods and full liquids for the first four days. The last 3 days were clear liquids. My starting weight was 279. Being heavier, I expected to lose a little faster. -
I just came out of my first stall. It started about a week and a half after surgery and lasted for 2 full weeks. The good news is that it does end and you will start losing again.

Hi I am only 3 weeks out and getting concerned. The scale dropped like lightening the first 8 days. Since then it's barely moved and in the last 3 days I've gained. Is that normal? I am following everything to the letter so I'm not sure where and if I'm actually falling short. Please help
-
Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or more. But don't worry -- after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again like crazy! (Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

What do you do now instead of eating
Redoableme replied to Amanda R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've started crocheting. In the 4 weeks since surgery I made 2 hats, 2 scarves, 2 head bands and now I'm working on a totebag! Gotta love YouTube for tutorials! -
I am only three weeks post op but i was just wondering if you have to FOREVER chew, chew, chew! Will it ever be normal?

Hi, all I had the lapband surgery in Lafayette, LA with Dr. Gary Stevens December, 2006. To date I've lost 43 pounds. I would have hoped to have lost more weight almost two years post surgery but I had a complication which I am now just getting over. I started vomiting January of this year but did not tell my doctor. I can't tell you why but it was a definite mistake on my part, because by March I couldn't keep anything down. My doctor unfilled my band for 3 months and told me I had a pouch dilation. My band was too tight. Three weeks ago I had my first refill. So basically I'm starting over. I did manage to maintain a 40 pound weight loss through all of this. I lost another 3 pounds the last 3 weeks since my refill. My surgery was self-pay and so were my fills so I guess you could say I'm a lot smarter now that I've been through all of this. I will ONLY be eating 1/2 cup of food per meal; only drink between meals; limit carbs, and CHEW, CHEW, CHEW. (I'm addressing head hunger which promotes emotional eating for me.) I have so much to make up for but I feel I'm back on the right road and feel fortunate I was able to keep my band. Sorry so long, but I felt the need to write all of this down, for myself and just maybe for someone else out there with my same issues.

Phase 3 Foods~BIG problem!
Sarah.R replied to want2beme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lucky, my stage 3 is actually soft food/normal food so I dunno, I think for the first 4 days or so I might do soft food and then try and slowly putting other things in but it's also annoying because I'm only going to be on the soft/normal stage for about a week before I go for my first fill, so they haven't timed it very well. So it's going to be a bit annoying, I'll be just getting use to normal food, then I'll have to have a fill, go back to the liquid stage and then re introduce food again. Ugh so confusing! -
Hi guys, I'm new to the board... I went through the whole 6months diet documentation, and was actually approved by my insurance within days!!! I was sooooooo excited. My Surgery date was suppose to be for March 13! Unfortunately, the doctor had an emergency and had to re-schedule the appointment for surgery. So, 3 weeks later, while sticking to my liquid diet, people are already commentating how well I look that I've lost weight. And many are saying that maybe the doctor will not want to do the surgery since I've lost weight, and probably can stick to it... but lets be realistic, who can be on liquids forever? My concern and worry is that is this true? Can the doctor tell me this? I'm so worried because I know I do need the surgery! I'm only 25 years old but I've been over weight all my life and tried EVERY damn diet there is... The only reason why I've been sticking to the liquid diet is because I want to make sure that my liver is small enough for surgery although the nurse had told me to go off on it till 2 week prior my surgery but said if I wanted to stick to it that was ok. Please help! Should I be worry or I'm I just making something out of nothing? Thanks! Chris

ugh! so frustrated with Dr. office VENT
determined1 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so frustrated with Drs office sending in insurance papers. I have *attended the seminar, *paid for psych appt. (*keep in mind this is 4 hrs away also). Now I am waiting for them to send in insurance papers for pre-approval. First I was told that they would have them summited by end of last week but now they tell me that they are running about 2-3 weeks behind because they have new physicians coming in and everyone is in a line so -in other words wait your turn! well I have done everything thus far that they asked and had they told me that my papers wouldnt be summited for another 4 weeks, I would have looked into another Dr. THIS is just to let me know if I'm approved or not, I feel like my life is on hold until I find this out. I am considering another surgeon right now, infact, a surgeon that comes recommended from my surgeons office for the sleeve. I do know that the new surgeon wants me to start over with going to the seminar then go from there (still 4 hrs away). I dont even know if they would accept the psych evaluation. I'm am so excited to have decided on the sleeve, now just frustrated for the wait. :tongue_smilie: -
How Long Did You Think About It Before You Decided?
Butterflyhigh replied to mimiski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Man, I WISH I could make a decision as quickly as some of the other folks here. I've been debating it with myself for two years. Last ditch attempt at loosing the weight was using Phentremine for about 8 months. I lost 40lbs but that is a horrible drug that does horrible things to your brain (phen-rage, bi-polar symptoms, inability to sleep). I took myself off of it and within two or three months had gain all the weight back....just like every other attempt over the past 15 years. That was one year ago. I've been lurking here, doing research, weighing all of it DAILY in my mind. I am also a self-pay. I am thisclose to finally throwing the towel in on my excuses and fears....I want to LIVE MY LIFE not chained to food. -
trying not to get discouraged
KayleighsMommy replied to lauslin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem with one of my sites (the one under my left breast) It was open for 3 1/2 weeks after surgery. I thought it was my port site at the time...luckily it wasnt) It had finally started to heal a bit (though still a gaping wound) I had to have emergency surgery on a different problem (an abcess in my belly due to the hernia surgery I had at the same time as my band) The surgeon went in to that open wound, and made it much larger. It was about a half inch wide when I went in, and 2 inches when I came out of surgery!!! It took another 3 weeks or so to heal. Hoping yours heals soon. -
Mine was turned in on a friday. I called next Thursday and had been approved, although they did say up to 30 days. I did not get a letter for two weeks.
-
First Aetna told me they have up to 15 days for a decision. Then they told me 30 days when I called them again. I was approved after a week.

Where my operating room nurses/techs at?
Kris77 replied to Pricilla's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I work in the OR. I took two weeks off. Just be careful when moving patients over. Take the feet and let someone else do the sides. I felt great a few days after surgery. I know it’s not always the norm but I had a pretty easy recovery and I was thankful for it. I hope you do as well. PM me anytime -
There is a type of low blood sugar problem that can occur after gastric bypass surgery. It is called reactive hypoglycemia. Here is a link to the condition. https://www.ridgeviewmedical.org/services/bariatric-weight-loss/enewsletter-articles/reactive-hypoglycemia-postgastric-bypass Generally this problem begins to occur several months after surgery. Since you are only a week after surgery, I suspect this is not the cause. These are the symptoms of hypoglycemia: An irregular heart rhythm * Fatigue * Pale skin * Shakiness * Anxiety * Sweating * Hunger * Irritability * Tingling sensation around the mouth * Crying out during sleep As hypoglycemia worsens, signs and symptoms may include: * Confusion, abnormal behavior or both, such as the inability to complete routine tasks * Visual disturbances, such as blurred vision * Seizures * Loss of consciousness If you were diabetic and taking medication for the condition, the medication might be driving your body into hypoglycemia. If so this is a sign that you need to cut back on the diabetic medicine. But if you were diabetic then you probably have a glucose meter and could test to see if your hypothesis (low blood sugar) is a correct one.

Today was day 1 of my 2 week liquid diet. I have surgery on May 19th. -
This is what i believe is referred to as bandster hell!.. its the time after surgery before your first fill. It is hell, but one that will assure your band is healed and healthy and ready to start you on your journey. I am 7 months out. I had my first fill 8 weeks after surgery, and then have gone every 6 weeks for a fill. Once you get over this hurdle it will be much better. You will actually be able to enjoy food once again. I love not being able to finish whats on my (already downsized) plate. If i want something, i eat it. maybe not the whole thing, but 1/4 or 1/2 and im done. Hang in there, it gets better! good luck!
