I am asking if we can just buy the tree tickets and explaned to the guy that we are having surgery so we want to be comfortable on the flight home we need three seats together we get almost finished and he says oh we dont have seats together! I was like why would I need to seat not together!! I can understand if it was not three together but two???? Why would one person buy two seats under the same name on two different rows!! uggggggg

    Optifast Shakes

I had to do optifast shakes for pre-op. I only got 3 a day tho, for 2 weeks. They didn't taste good, but they didn't taste bad. I didn't care for the strawberry ones, but I don't like anything strawberry. I did the chocolate and vanilla. They were really sweet. I found they were easier to drink if they were really cold, or even over ice, and with a straw.

    Liquid Diet???

Hi, Yes, My doctor put me on a two week liquid diet.. the best shake besides my own w/ fruit is actually Ensure.. (Chocolate) 4 of those per day are great!.. My doctors pre-op info. also says that you can have raw veggies, or cooked (no beans, potatoes, peas, or corn) or you can have salad w/ vinegar.. so I have made this delicious meal outta veggie broth and green giant, just for one's brocolli and carrots, ( only 60 calories) combo the two and it's a great soup. I also have hot and sour soup from the chinese restaurant, This really helps! still shrinking the liver and chewing at same time... 1 more week till surgery whoo hoo.. my date is 4/28.

    Cost?

Last week I attended a seminar about LAP-BAND® hosted by one of our local weight loss institutes. I was very exciting. They provided a lot of information including just a quick blurb about cost and that at the first visit the financial counselor would review your insurance one-on-one. That makes sense, everyone has different insurance. They did include that there would be: $500 – program enrollment (includes pre-authorization testing), $400 – psychiatric eval, and $1,000 for the three year nutritional/exercise program. That all seemed reasonable to me. I also knew that my insurance had a $1,000 access for bariatric surgery. When I got the appointment today they said it would be slightly over $8,000. In addition to the costs listed above they use a second surgeon who is out of network (out of everyone’s network) which is about $5,000 and some miscellaneous fees. My husband has been active duty military for over 20 years and I have not seen a “civilian” doctor in a long time. I knew it would not be cheap but I was really surprised at the cost. Is this similar to what your fees were? I know each insurance is different but I had serious culture shock! :scared2:I was going to use my insurance through work but now need to look into TriCare referrals.

Calories at 8 weeks post op

What Protein shakes have you tried? In those first few weeks I hated Protein Shakes, I could not find any that I liked. I ended up not getting enough protein in and in the long term that is a huge problem. You should get a minimum of 1 gram of protein for every inch you are tall as a minimum. I ended up trying Premier Protein ready made shakes. The chocolate flavor is the best. There are 30 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. It is an excellent choice for a supplement. You can buy at Sam's or costco. Recently I had surgery on my neck where they went through my throat. It has caused me real issues and basically put me back on soft foods. From what my doctor said, this could go on for months. I went to my Bariatric team for help. They gave me a whole bag of Protein shake samples to try. Syntax nectar - fuzzy naval is excellent, I also loved the Caribbean cooler and vanilla bean torte. They don't have that horrid protein taste. I use Water for the fuzzy navel and milk for the other two. I ended up order a box of each of these flavors in the grab and go packets I purchased these on line via Amazon.. I have been eating a lot of cottage cheese which has great protein, pudding - I eat the real thing not sf, yogurt, cream of wheat, homemade Soups, cooked vegetables cooked very soft, I am struggling with most meats because of the swallow issue right now but most fish will work. I am surprised your doctor has you focus on calories vs. protein. I am able to get between 900 and 1100 calories a day and easily hitting my protein goals. If you cannot get your protein through food, which I still cannot you have to supplement or you will get sick. I wish you the best of luck!

    Weight gain....

So I was sleeved in July 2014, and lost 70 pounds in 5 months!!! Then it stopped...it has been 10 months since I have lost anything. What's worse is I have gained 10 pounds! Now in July this year I saw my surgeon and we discussed my weight and he said to up my exercise and I have....work out at a gym now with a trainer 3-4 days a week....I am very careful as to what I eat. I guess my question is has this happened to anyone else?? My surgeon did tell me that if in 6 months there is still no change he would do the bypass revision...just scared to have another surgery...

    Weight gain....

Keep a food diary for the next 3-4 weeks and go over it with the nutritionist in your dr office. They should be able to tell you what you need to change!

    Sleeve weight loss

Adding to what Babbs has said, some don't lose any the first couple of weeks (could be water weight...), so don't be surprised if this happens to you. It WILL come off, if you follow your prescribed plan. All the best to you.....

    Must haves for Gastric Sleeve

Sounds like you are ready! The one thing I really enjoyed the first week were sugar free popsicles. It was a combination of being able to chew again all while getting additional fluids down. You're gonna do great!

    OMG

If possible ask for two and see how you feel at the end of the first week.

I work for myself and run a small agency so I didn't have the luxury of taking time off like I wanted to. Three days post-op the phone was ringing. Really I can do one-two meetings a day but more than that tires me. I'm supposed to go back full-time next week and although it's a desk job, it's also a lot of thinking, talking to clients, writing presentations, deciding how they should spend their money, and I am hoping like mad I will have a clear head by Monday which will be 10 days. I wish I could take 2 weeks off.

Oh ok I'm taking a week off. I haven't told anyone at my job I'm wondering if I should.

I was planning on taking 3 weeks but I ended up with a hernia and took 4. Do you have a full time job? If so look into fmla (short term disability) see what your company pays for. I had to take the first 5 days as sick and the rest was fully paid and no vacation time was deducted.
  16. It's definitely lifetime if you want the best results for your wright. When you drink while you eat, my understanding is that you can wash the food down so you don't feel the restriction and feel "full". I think it can also affect your digestion. Something about diluting the enzymes. My (uneducated) guess is also that it would expand/stretch your pouch eventually. I'm three years out and I can drink while I eat. I do occasionally sip wine during a meal on very special occasions, but only very small amount. I also have water with some meals to take my medication with food (it helps with nausea triggered by medications), but again only a small amount to gulp down the pills. I do better maintaining my weight when I avoid drinking with meals. If you can, I would definitely aim to stick with this rule for life!

    Vitamin after surgery

I take iron as a separate pill as whatever iron they may use in a multi is the cheapest least absorbed form available and you will likely need to supplement it anyway; likewise any calcium in the multi I consider to be a throwaway. I take Iron with the multi (when I take the multi - they're only a 2-3 per week thing for me now, the iron is daily) and then calcium citrate at lunch (if needed) and dinner.

    Honeymoon Period

I’m 11 months post op, I’m losing 1-5 pounds a week steadily. I’m not trying. I just follow the healthy foods and foods high in protein. I eat 2-3 oz. I’m losing more now than I did early on. From what I’ve read the honeymoon period happens differently for different folks but is within the first year of dieting. Though, I’ve heard of some three years out where nothing has changed, they lost steadily the entire way there, and continue to keep it off without trying. The last twenty pounds for me will be all on my own, so my doc tells me. I’m prepared. And, I think the honeymoon period is going to vary from person to person and be largely dependent on how closely one follows the diet and works out.

    Honeymoon Period

The no hunger part last 5 weeks for me. The greatest weight loss was during the first 8 weeks. I have lost 8-10 pounds per month every month from 8 weeks on so far (knocks on wood)
  20. I was also sleeved on 3/20 and seemed to have stalled at 17lbs. I only weigh myself once a week and at my post op dr visit. I was getting frustrated, but see we are all in similar situations. We need to trust the process. [emoji4]
  21. Oh yes, yes, yes - irritatingly, annoyingly, exasperatingly, frustratingly normal! Prep yourself for stalls regularly on this journey. At 3 weeks. At 3 months. I lose pretty consistently 100g a day now - 3/4lbs a week. But some days when I think I have eaten perfectly normally I will put on a pound! It goes fast, but water retention, hormones, muscle building all have an impact. One trick I have learned - often when I am in a stall, is when I will drop a pants size, or a bra size. So make sure you get in the habit of checking that or doing regular same-spot measurements with a tape measure and you will stay smiling!

3 Days Out And A Little Scared

I had a lot a chest pain the first few days from the gas pumped in. I wasn't cleared for yogurt until 2 weeks out but I don't even eat the stuff, however I do mix it in my protein shakes. I will take a sip of protein then a sip of water.
  23. Hang in there, it'll be worth it. I only had to do it for 1 day, and I to can't imagine how others have done it for a week or longer. I was starving when I went in for surgery, but haven't been hungry since

Weight stuck from week 3 to week 6

You're fixing to hit a stall, if you haven't already. I can't say this emphatically as everyone is different, but this is my hunch. I hope I'm wrong, bc it sucks prayers for your success
  25. Hey guys! So I'm almost 3 weeks out and was doing great with my weight loss. At 2 weeks I was down 17 lbs. Then I got extremely sick. Horrible back pain and a UTI. Besides the horrible pain, the UTI ha prevented me from urinating and haven't loss any weight. I'm so bummed because I was doing so good. I am on antibiotics (shots and crushed pills) but I can hardly keep down the pills. Anyone have any advice, suggestions, motivation?
