I was eating off of soft foods stage 3 when I was supposed to be eating off of mushies/purees. I didn't eat a ton of anything mostly just chicken and soft cooked vegetables and I chewed a lot. Had one night where I maybe ate a little too fast but that went away. I'm worried!!!! Do you think it did any damage??!

Insurance Letter In The Mail Today And....
NerdyMHC posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Approved!!! It was fast too...My coordinator submitted all of the information on September 12th and I just got the letter today! I was super skeptical that I was going to get approved because I am a realist and just figured it was going to be a struggle. My pre-surg appointment is Nov. 15th and I start my pre-surg diet on Nov. 21st, with a tentative surgery date of December 6th. I hope it goes as fast as the 6 month diet and all of the qualifying stuff did! I am sooooo excited right now! YAY!!! -
Here's the skinny on the pre-op liquid diet (pun totally intended)
MisforMimi replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think about all the crazy tactics I've used to loose weight in the past!!! I've survived on the Joe Cross juicing fad for 60 days, no solid food whatsoever! To anyone juicing, I think its good for certain things (and still juice vegetables only on occasion) but sustained weight loss is not one of them. Lost 40 pounds and gained back 80. I'm thinking I'll be well-equipped to get through whatever pre-op diet they assign. And how many people have done nutri-, opti, -slim, -fast etc etc??? and gained it all back??? I actually obese people have a lot of willpower. * -
I don't think you stretch the pouch with one episode. I ate too fast at Thanksgiving and felt the same way, my whole body felt bad. I watched my intake for a couple days and still felt restriction. It just hit me that I was full but I had already taken like 10 bites past that. A big attention grabber, huh? It will get better, I think we all do it once. Hey kids don't believe its hot till they burn themselves right?

My prescribed pre-op diet; hope it helps!
pcindy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I posted this thread in the Success Stories section by accident. :confused1: This is where I meant to post it: Hi everyone! I see a lot of questions on this site about pre-op diets. I thought I'd post mine, just as a guide for those who aren't prescribed one, but think they might need or want one. Good luck to everyone. Pre-op liquid Diet It is recommended by your surgeon and dietitian to follow a low calorie, low fat, low sugar and high Protein liquid diet for ___ days prior to undergoing bariatric surgery. The purpose of the liquid diet is to reduce the size of the liver, reduce the risk of bleeding during the surgery and to show commitment to the program. Below are the nutritional guidelines for the pre-op liquid diet. You will need to measure your intake and keep a food journal. Depending on which items you choose to consume throughout the day, your intake should be approximately 1000 calories and 60-80 grams of protein. You will be expected to lose 5 lbs per week on this plan. The nutritional guidelines are as follows: UNLIMITED SECTION: These liquids can be taken in any amount since they do not contain sugar. 1. sugar free or diet beverages such as Crystal Light (Great Value @ Walmart), Sugar Free Kool-Aid, Sugar Free Tang, Diet Snapple, FUZE, Powerade Zero, Diet V8 Splash, Propel, Fruit 2 O, coffee, Tea and Water. 2. beautifult, I also work 12 hour shifts and it is very hard for me to get in a decent sit down meal, however, I take my optifast protein drinks to work and I will have one every four hours or so. I have to eat on the run (this is partly how I gained my wieght by eating quick fast foods). I have explained to my supervisor that I will need to take at least 20 minutes to have a sit down meal because of the band and he told me to take the time and take care of myself. I just started my regular meals and it is going well. I take the time to chew, chew, chew and I am so far losing weight and I am using the gym at work because of the 12 hours and the convience of it being right there on site. As for you not having the time to take a break, I do understand, however talk to your supervisor about your needs. You are a caregiver of others, so why not take at least 20 minutes to take care of yourself also? If all esle fails, the protein drinks are already premixed and I put mine in a cup that I can carry around with me and sip on. Hope this helps a little.

I was told presurgery that if someone loses weight too quickly that seromas can occur. When fat tissue breaks down and becomes liquid, the body sometimes can not absorb it fast enough. In this case, the liquid goes to the area of least resistance, usually someplace along the largest incision. They say that the goal is for the seroma to drain. Fluid that sits under the skin can become infected. Use warm compresses on the incision and allow warm Water in the shower to run on it to encourage it to drain.

I hope both of you are doing good! I had mine 3 weeks ago and I'm starting to be able to do more and more every day. I had a couple issues. Constipation probably from the pain meds and a blood clot scare. I try to walk often and take Miralax daily! Gas X strips helped with gas pains if you need that! Anyways, I'm new too and would love to share experiences etc. Praying for fast recoveries for all! Kat

Pre-Op Diet And Social Activities
lilly11781 replied to lilly11781's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for the great advice! My pre-opt diet consists of 4 low carb slim fast shakes, broths, Water, sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. I hear that the first 3 days are the hardest, is that true? I think I will be fine for the concert and show and it might help me take my mind off the hunger. I'm more worried about the bridal shower and bachelorette party. Those are going to be hard but it truly is mind over matter. -
Family Dinners
finallyncontrol replied to NewMrs.Smith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started from day one..well as soon as I was allowed food after surgery we all ate the same food. I never thought of this as a diet...it is a lifestyle change. I didn't want to think of this as a diet or eat only certain foods because if I ate that way that once I hit my goal and started eating other foods I would gain the weight back. Plus I feel that we all need to be eating healthy. Since being banded I cook 95% of all of our meals. We enjoy family time so much more now. We vote on the meals to see if we want to make them again or never again or maybe once in a great while. We still have fast food night every so often...Wendy's works...I can order chili and they can get whatever they want...we also do Taco Bell. I have found deserts to make that has no calories that are very good. As I said me doing this has helped us in so many ways...much better homemade meals...I may eat less than they do but we all eat the same thing. I hope you can do the same...it would make your life so much easier. Good luck!!! -
We are quite sexually adventurous. My weight has a degree in psychology and studied abnormal sexualality. We aren't out there and we don't do multiple partners but we'very tried a lot of what she studied. Think of the kamasutra for modern day. I swear that I'm a thesis paper. Anyway fast forward to last night. We are having fun with my weight loss. We set sex goals together which keeps me going and excited about the next goal. It was unexpected but I now wear 32 jeans so we had to come up with a reward. This is our first food reward. Mix PB2 with sugar-free Hershey syrup and apply to your partner. Then lick it off! 52.5 calories, 7.5 carbs, 1.5 fat, 5 protein Of one of the best desserts that you will ever have!

I was on 3 shakes a day for a total of 600 calories a day during my 14 day pre-op shake phase. Prior to that I had to have a six month - monthly weigh ins before the doctor got approval from my insurance company. my doctor had me on 800-1000 calories a day (I always stayed under 900 calories, 80 grams of Protein and 45-75 carbs (I tried to stay under 50) carbs and I lost weight each month persistently even though I had fun days. 1200-1500 calories a day seems very high to me for a pre-op phase. It seems like a good amount of calories for maintenance phase especially if you are exercising. One thing though, everyone picked their surgeon for a reason and I think listening to your surgeon's advice, but did your surgeon set you up with a nutritionist first? My suggestion, which cannot hurt you and will give you the results you want would be: Drink 64 ounces of Water a day - Walk as much as you can and the most important thing is to avoid as many carbs as you can. Keep carbs under 6-7 grams of per serving and as high a protein as possible. Why not try TWO Protein Shakes a day, sugar-free popsicles & sugar-free Jello as Snacks and eat a sensible dinner - "protein - plus vegetable". The shakes & vegetable and sf stuff will give you the amount of carbs you need for energy and the least carbs you have the better your liver will be for surgery. Best of luck. Sorry I had to edit this I hit send too fast.

Oh Snap... Surgery tomorrow! Am I ready?
Chaparra replied to theshrinkingchef's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is tomorrow as well (YAY us!). I'm nervous and have been very tempted to go out and get my favorite fast food to have one last taste of it, but I didn't and the urge is driving me crazy. I've been trying to keep myself busy so that I wouldn't think too much about this, but knowing me, I'll be up late tonight thinking. That I don't mind since I don't check into the hospital until 9:15 tomorrow. Hopefully, I will be able to sleep in and not have too much time to think about wanting to eat. -
Yes I am right here with you sister!!!!! I find it challenging to stay on track as well! I do well throughout the work week as I bring my lunch and Snacks for the day. I find that I don't really eat after I leave so my last meal is usually by 5pm with maybe a light snack if needed around 8 or 9 pm. I'm working around a concept of fasting approx 4-6 hours before bedtime. Anyways on the weekends-- I find that since I don't plan my eating on the weekends I don't eat like I should. Or I will have gone the whole day and finally notice around 6 well Jesus I haven't eaten all day! I take for granted that I'm around the house and that food is available buuuuuut I'm usually out and about running around and fast food for me is a NO NO NO NO NO!!!! Although Cookies are not my vice but occasionally on date night weekends I may have a cocktail or glass of wine that I used to feel very guilty about but no longer. I made a choice. I own that choice and I learn to understand how those choices may affect me. If I choose to have an occasional cocktail or glass of wine once or twice a month so be it. None of us are perfect. But if you are giving your meal plan serious effort 90% of the time its ok to have a occasional treat in moderation. Now I wouldn't have a drink every weekend-- I would have to make some changes there if that were happening. So if you find yourself veering off plan every weekend then it may be time to consider developing a strategy right now to help you stay on track. So just like you set yourself up for work during the week set yourself up for home on the weekends. I've started buying mini fruit and veggie trays and even prepared chicken and tuna salads from those swanky market delis to get me through the weekend days at least. Nights are usually a little less planned and it all depends on what we do. Its easier to make better choices at dinner when you've done well throughout the day.

How long are you staying satisfied. You should be able to stay satisfied for 3 to 4 hours. It's not going to help head hunger, that's psychological and you'll have to deal with that separately. As for the feeling in your chest, could be too big a bite, not chewing well or eating too fast and not allowing your pouch to empty properly before putting more in.

I had my first fill on 11/09 and I have 4cc in my 10cc band. I'm not hungry until around 12:30 but when I do eat I can have a more than a cup, but still small portions, probably 2 cups. I'm eating slow and if I do eat too fast I feel like I'm going to get stuck ( pain in chest almost like heartburn) so I stop. Is this my "green zone"? Or am I supposed to be eating less than a cup in my green zone. Just trying to make sure I'm doing this right. I've last 3 more lbs since 11/09, yay!

I think the first thing you need to do is not go forward with the thinking that you will never have a certain food again! Yes we have to change our ways after surgery but I am able to eat a little bit of anything! I don't normally, but if there is a special occasion or meal I can have a treat sometimes. As far as the food funerals??? When I knew I had a date I went to the store before my pre op and picked up a pint of some kind of ice cream (can't even remember the flavor how sad) went home and ate half of it that night and finished it the next day.. After I ate it?? Nothing, it was just gone it didn't feel special it didn't make me feel better, in fact it did nothing for me except make me feel crappier about myself. And added to the weight I needed to lose.. Fast forward to today, I can eat normal again so if I wanted a bit of ice cream I could. So I guess what I'm saying is don't sabotage yourself with thoughts of "I need to eat this now because I can never have it again" Oh the pre op diet Zare will take care of that for you and provide the shakes, it's two weeks I think? You will go through all of the stages of food after that he has spelled out for you. Now I'm on all foods but I eat a lot different than I used too. Mostly Protein and veggies. No more rice bread and Pasta..

I am almost 10 weeks and got an unfill. I had already gained 7-13 lbs. maybe more. I started freaking out having anxiety attacks about how much weight I am gaining. I am getting big fast. I was 170 lbs I had lost 80lbs total 2 years post opt, and I hadnt been that small since I was a kid. I shopped all the time and love all the clothes and my size. I was finally a 10-12 I'm 5"8". We have been married 4 years so I guess it's time. Anyways, I am reading now and I see all these comments about how others didnt get a complete unfil. I kinda wish I didn't get it all unfilled. I was just so hungry before my unfil. I hope I can lose it all. I understand how how you feel about gaining the weight. I already finding my pants not closing.

T'snewstart replied to LG1981's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly my Dr would have. If I were you I would get on liquids fast. Best Wishes! -
My sleeve is hungry! I can't wait to get off these liquids. That's my only issue! This was the best decision I've made. I tell you You're sleeve will let you know when you drink to fast or had too much! *pain*

Give it some time and try again. Not sure why, but our taste buds change over time and our tolerance to foods also change over time. Also remember to eat slow. My problem with soups was eating too fast. Once I learned to slow down tolerance was much better. In the case of French onion soup.. could have been the onions or the bread. Hang in there , it gets better.
