@Red Robin I was a band to bypass revision as well. My surgeon refused to do the band to sleeve because of increased risk of staple line issues across the scar tissue caused by the band. I'm glad I decided to go bypass over sleeve, because when my surgeon went to remove my band, it was totally encapsulated in scar tissue, they wouldn't have been able to proceed with the sleeve if I was going that way anyway. Now, my surgeon did refuse, but she said there were others in her group that would do it and she offered to send me to them if I wanted to proceed with the band to sleeve revision. I trusted her judgement and it paid off. Either way, congrats on deciding to continue your journey! Good luck and Stay Strong!

WLS is hard. I knew this going into my band back in 2011. I knew this going to my revision to bypass this past March. I expected it to be hard. I'm getting very frustrated with the struggle. Granted this is coming from a place where I'm working 10+ hour days, we just had to put a dog down, and I'm stalling hard every few days. My body fat has been slowly reducing but not the weight. And again, I get that it's a process. Just venting I guess. I'm in the gym almost every day, only missed 2 days total in over a month. One was because a friend needed help with his car, so I spent several hours in the junk yard getting a door off for him, so I might have missed the gym, but I certainly didn't miss the workout that day! And the other day was this past Tuesday, because my pup got put down while I was at work. She was old, and I knew it was coming, but that doesn't change the waves of depression and emotional break downs the loss is causing. Just need a win this week and everything is coming up crap. Our dryer stopped working and 4 parts later, too much money and too much effort and it's still not working. Just feels like this whole week has it out for me.

I remember being denied at first, because I needed a 6 month supervised diet even though I had the lap band installed in 2011. But those 6 months flew by. Hard to believe I'm almost 3 months post revision now! It'll happen, it just seems like it'll be a long time, then it goes quickly. It's weird. But you'll get there soon enough!

Revising from Band to Bypass, Previous Hernia Mesh
wledwards replied to Midwest Girl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm currently waiting on my insurance to approve my hernia repair with a band revision to bypass. I have been very nervous about the change but I need relief from the abdominal pains and vomiting. Has anyone had this done and if so, what was your recovery like. -
Have you purchased any goal clothing for after surgery?
Melixxa replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just did this last night! There were some t-shirt dresses that I loved at J Crew, but the colours I wanted only came in large, and I wear an extra large. My revision surgery is in early July, so I hope it was a safe gamble...fingers crossed that between my pre-op diet and a bit of post-surgery weight loss, I will fit into them before summer is over! -
My RNY was a revision from a band too. Done on 6/11

@Diva302 I was revised from a lapband after two miserable years of blaming myself for the band's failure (I gained 20 pounds). Expect a stall three weeks post-op. It happens to the best of us. Everyone's journey is different, but I know it's hard not compare your loss with someone else's. I know I did. I was a slow loser. By the end of the first month, I had lost 14.5 pounds. I know most patients lose that in the first week. By 15 weeks, I had lost 40 pounds, and by 25 weeks I had lost 53 pounds. At one year, I'm 77 pounds lighter and wear a size 8-10 pants and a medium top. I rode my bike a lot last summer, but that's the extent of my exercise. Ninety-percent of my weight loss has been what has gone into my mouth and from drinking water. I had a few weeks when my body didn't want to let go of the weight, but then "whoosh," it would drop 3 pounds in a week. Let you body have those moments to sigh and take a breath without freaking out. Trust your surgery. The first three months are the hardest. You'll have cravings but also days when nothing tastes like it used to. That will pass. And so will the gas....oh, my. Be prepared for that adventure.

Surgery Scheduled! Revision Sleeve to Bypass
Tmusselman replied to shoregirl75's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Miss smiles, I’m so happy to see your post. I’m being revised from sleeve to bypass on July 10th and lately have been second guessing if I should do it since I “failed “ at the sleeve too. I always felt my restriction wasn’t was what it was supposed to be. I can’t wait now to have the bypass. Thanks for the update! -
Surgery Scheduled! Revision Sleeve to Bypass
miss_smiles replied to shoregirl75's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had my revision on May 30th to gastric bypass and couldn't be happier!!!!!!! I suggest everyone who feels the way I did to go back to the doctors, they are there to help. Screw people who shame you into thinking it was YOUR fault. I waited nearly 2 YEARS because I blamed myself for my sleeve failure. LOW AND BEHOLD, it was SURGEON ERROR! You hope and pray that you are not the 1% of this group, but sometimes you are, and it is okay. Down from 250 to 233, and couldn't be happier! Seeing the number on the scale decrease again is amazing. Not only that, my face is slimmer and its also those non-scale victories that have me so happy! -
I had a lap band revised to bypass. Let me know if you want to know about that too (but it might well be that you know sleeve is the right one for you). Cheers

I have had my band for 7 years and am considering a revision surgery to the sleeve. If you have done this, could you please share your experience?

I't used to be so easy to book a surgery in Mexico!
Melixxa posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi all, I'm hoping to have my sleeve (2013) revised to a mini gastric bypass sometime in July, and I'm having a terrible time booking a surgeon. I'm finding coordinators seem super-busy and struggling to find time to answer questions. There must be a lot of us hoping to have surgery soon! I've also had a couple of coordinators make errors on their initial quote, and then explain that the cost is actually much higher. And I've had two different coordinators from the same surgeon give me quotes $1,200 apart. I know Dr. Illan is highly recommended, but I can't get in to BariatricPal Hospital MX until fall, and I am a school teacher so that won't work for me. Does anyone have recent experience with a surgeon/coordinator that they can recommend? Thanks! -
I had mine on the 5th. I did a revision from lap band. I feel HORRIBLE!!! But it should be worth it later.

VSG on 4/16/18: My journey
Jodi1980 replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@TexasMommy80 Love the updates! I just happen to click on your story in the forum! Congrats on your surgery and your weight loss success. I will receive my surgery date this Thursday with my surgeon, Dr. Boorse (for my VSG revision.) I can vouch about the Syntrax Nectar. When I had my first VSG in 2012, my sister n law recommended I try the sample packs and see which ones I liked and then order the big barrel of my favs. There are lots of fruity ones like crystal lite or kool-aid and packed with protein. Great to read, you are doing so well! -
Lapband to bypass waiting on insurance blah
Matt Z replied to swimmer0302's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Pretty much the same story here. Banded in 2011, lost 70 lbs, various issues with foods, etc etc etc. My initial approval was denied because Insurance required a 6 month medically supervised diet, so I did all that, and it took 2-3 weeks for the approval the second time around. My Revision Surgery was on March 21st. As long as you jumped through their hoops, you should be all set! -
3 months ago this was a random thought, revision surgery! Best thought I ever had, I’m ready for 7:45 6/12...I’ve ordered the vitamin patches, tomorrow will stock up on protein beverages, have gained so much insight from others on this forum and the Facebook page...working tomorrow till 3am then to the hospital at 5:45. I’ve lost weight since the process started, took pics and measurements today, I’m fired up and ready to go! If I have any surgery twins let’s keep in touch and inspire and motivate each other!

Decisions , decisions, decisions
Bryn910 replied to Beautfully Flawed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would talk to your psych doctor about the issue of your meds. (Are you planning to be on these meds long term, is there another med? Could this dose be less at some point down the road etc.) You could definitely lose 100 lbs. with either surgery. And I agree with the other poster about GERD. Many people are getting revisions due to GERD -
can i ask why you’re getting a revision? I felt no restriction with the sleeve, only lost about 20 pounds and then gained it back. I also developed GERD

What does your typical day look like?
Bryn910 replied to fluffyandiknowit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 1 month out revision from sleeve to bypass. This is my day: -wake up around 6am, take my gallbladder, acid reducer, vitamin d, biotin, calcium, multi vitamin & b12 pills. I take them with water & drink about 6 ounces of water. -while I get ready for work, I begin drinking my protein drink so the pills can settle easy. I either drink an 11 ounce protein drink or a 16.9 ounce; I usually and one scoop of genepro to either one to add to my protein. I finish this on my way to work & a bit at work which leaves me at about 50g of protein that i drank and about 17-22 ounces of fluid drank (depending on which drink). I finish about 8:30 am -I immediately start drinking my water out of my hydroflask water bottle which is 20 ounces. I finish this about 11:30 am which leaves me at about 37-42 ounces of water drank. -I then wait my 20 minutes to eat and I eat around 12 noon. For lunch I have about 2 ounces of my soft foods (fish, eggs or soft cheese). Takes me about 30-35 minutes to eat this. The protein varies depending on what I eat so I will guesstimate about 5-8g protein for lunch. This leaves me with consuming about 58g of protein. I then wait 40 minutes to drink again. -so around 1:40pm I drink 16.9 ounces of water and finish it by the end of my workday at around 3:30. This leaves me at about 53-58 ounces of fluid/water. -At 3:30 I begin to drink a Premier protein clear mixed with a crystal light lemonade for the ride home and will finish about 5:30 at home. When I get home I finish the remainder of my meds/vitamins which are multivitamin, iron & calcium, anti acid & galladder. This leaves me at about 69-74 ounces of fluid & 78g of protein. I then begin my 20 minute wait if eating. -so around 6pm I eat 2 ounces of soft food again which is about 4-6g of protein so I will finish my protein for the day at about 84 g of protein. I will wait 40 minutes again to drink water at around 7-7:15pm. - I will continue to drink water all evening until bedtime which is 10-10:30pm. By then I will consume approximately 20 more ounces of fluid which leaves me at 94 ounces of fluid. i don’t really count calories but looking back on MyFitnessPal it’s about 430 calories for the day 94 ounces of fluid 84 grams of protein 430 calories -
The pill is fine to take after the sleeve surgery because there is no malabsoprtion with the sleeve. Surgery does not and did not change it’s effectiveness when I had my sleeve 7 years ago. I resumed it and was just fine. But now that i am a revision of sleeve to bypass I may have to change my birth control from pill to something else I do not ingest because there is malabsorption with the bypass.

May 8th Texas revision of sleeve to bypass due to GERD -
I am a 66 year old male with type 2 diabetes, the main reason for considering the gastric sleeve surgery, is in knowing my dropping my excess weight will eliminate my dealing with the diabetes, in particular insulin injects (I hate shots!). Nine years ago while my wife was going for a revision on her gastric by-pass from the mid 70's, I considered having the surgery then, but opted for a protein shake regiment in which I lost 160 lbs. Then for the most part maintained that weight for 4 years. Over time the diabetes returned and now I know something has to be done. I say that to ask this, have I reached an age where there is no real benefit, to having the surgery or has that time past?
