Need Voices Of Experience- Obsessing Over Mfp
Amanda 3.0 replied to Dooter's topic in Food and Nutrition
This makes perfect sense, especially if you are not doing any protein supplements. I have a supplement routine that I adhere to most days so that part of my intake is a no-brainer. Also, if I stopped losing for a while, I would log to find out what my problem was, for sure. -
So stopped up I can't eat . . .

I called mine on Christmas Eve to tell him I couldn’t poop. 😂 He told me to go with the nuclear option…. It was the best Christmas poop ever! Also, it’s never too late to call if you’re worried- the surgeon office should have an on call service to call you back with urgent issues. -

Can't you count the water/fluid in your protein shakes. My first two weeks post op when I was on liquids I counted all my liquids toward my water total. -
Thank you both very much...& please don't praise me yet... Today is the first day of the 3 that I've gotten more than 30 oz in. But I wasn't sure where my priorities were to lay... With the water or the protein...? I feel like I can do one or the other... Lots of trouble with both... It's 11:00 pm Texas time...& I've only gotten down 40 oz... I want this so bad...but I'm so scared, because I don't want to mess anything up...

Condensed Protein Shake

If you have a GNC near you, have someone get you a couple of Isopure waters (40 grams of protein) per bottle. I like the grape personally. I.m getting liquid and protein at the same time by drinking these. I ordered a case from Vitamin Shoppe???? -
Yes, I can. I just can't count broth or bullion. I just have trouble drinking the protein, the taste is hard to contain in large amounts.

Panic attacks after gastric sleeve
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to shericrazylady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It is completely normal to have mood changes during the early stages of recovery. Every body is different and I believe how we handle the changes has to do with our nature as well. Not a bad thing, just reality. After surgery your hormones are sent into a tailspin. Lots of stuff going on inside that causes your exact symptoms. Your doctor should have talked to you about the good and the bad of these hormone changes. The good is that when our bodies are sent into this tailspin it needs time to adjust. During that adjustment period it is important to stay very close to your eating plan and water intake. Your body is creating new set points, new places where it is content. We want that set point to be thinner, healthier and happier. So work hard to lose, relax and just feel good about all these changes. The bad is after surgery we are very good at getting our protein, drinking our water and doing light exercise. All of these things release toxins and stored hormones from our fat, like estrogen. So if you find yourself crying at the drop of a hat, thinking about strangling your significant other, or locking yours or someone elses children in the closet, be happy, your burning fat:-) and all is as it should be. Everyone is a bit scared after surgery of the possibilities for complication. Feel free to call your surgeon's office every time you are unsure and someone there should be able to assure you that all is well or call you in if there are really issues. Don't be shy, that's why they are there. Also, prepare for feelings of regret, remorse, and anger at what you've done to yourself. I have described this phase as a really bad break up with our greatest love...the abuse of food. You will mourn not being able to eat like you did before. Be assured that all those feelings pass and when you are a couple months out and a few pounds down you feel so good and you will be happy that love is over. Life is different and oh, so, much better. Take care -

i am a male also and going to try and help you out I did not have a support wife or person but things you should try and do. You need to order a nutra bullet or similar device. Getting those drinks in line are really going to help. Once you master the way to make them they will be a treat for him. Mix them up - I am also a chef = yes you can add ice Protein drink, half a banana - and add the powder vitamins to it = Peanut butter powder and banana powder are great! In other words you are making a Protein smoothie. Now for the liquid phase there is not set time when his body is ready he will move phases. Take it slow! I agree with above - Get a ton of vitamins and focus on protein for the phase one! he has to eat slow and I mean pick and slow = MY KEY ADVICE, TELL HIM TO MAN UP AND GET HIS ASS OUT OF BED ASAP AND MOVE MOVE MOVE AROUND THE HOSPITAL. THE FASTER HE MOVES AND GETS THE AIR OUT THE BETTER HE WILL FEEL. FEEL free to PM or even call me aj -
Support Person Here -- Husband Having Surgery Next Week

1) ice is fine 2) to be honest, I didn't even bother trying to coordinate my meals with my husband's the first three or so weeks because my required diet was so specialized and so difficult to coordinate with his. We just ate/drank completely separate things and were fine with the fact it was temporary. Once I was on regular food - and told to eat protein first, then veggies - I'd make him the same protein and veggies that I was eating, but I'd also prep some kind of starch for him - like rice or potatoes or bread. -
Anybody Else Very Nervous About The Surgery And The Strict Diet Afterwards?
pretty-pink replied to vssupermodel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I like the Premier Protein shakes too. I get mine at Sam's Club, but I wish we had a costco here in central Arkansas... I have a Ninja that is great for grinding up ice cubes into little bits, AND it has 4 individual sized blender cups that I can take with me. Ordered it from Bed, Bath & Beyond. Your surgery date is just around the corner! Good Luck too!! -
Struggling and need help
Brighteyes replied to Brighteyes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I think I finally figured it out. I have had muscle milk lite this am and am sipping on a whey protein shake now. No gagging and seems to be going down okay. I think 34 grams of protein in the am was just to much for my body to metabolize since I am not use to eating protein. -

I've gotten a LOT of flack from bypass patients about my band choice...just ignore her snotty butt lol and tell her you have to work VERY hard because you went with the option that doesn't remove your gut to cheat the food you put in your mouth. (sorry) -
We are only supposed to eat a cup of food per meal, but you can get in 1000-1200 calories while still eating the proper portions. You just have to make sure the food choices you make are the best ones and be sure to get in all your protein.

A Little Excited and Scared
tnwhite2001 replied to gir60's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do you know when your surgery is set for? I didn't do really well on my diet either and about 3 weeks prior to surgery they put me on a liquid diet (slimfast, water, crystal light) and I lost 16 pounds in one week. There are lots of options and I don't think they will flat out turn you down just because of that. They might put you on a stricter diet but I don't think they will turn you down. Just keep your head up and do the best you can. You'll do great! -
Just be patient. I know that's hard to hear, but it's impossible not to lose on so few calories if you let your body adjust. Some people will tell you to shake things up by drinking more water, getting more exercise, or eating more protein but whether you do or you don't the scale will eventually move. I have had several plateaus and then the weight starts coming off again. You are not doiing anything wrong, your body is making changes.

I too was approved and I’m not 100 lbs or more overweight ... I would say I’m 70 or 80 lbs overweight but I have a tiny frame .. I’m 5 feet tall. I have knee and back problems and my mom died at 60 from heart disease .. she was also diabetic and had kidney disease. I was diagnosed as pre diabetic so I had better smarten up while I still have the chance. You can also check out Mexico as an option . I’m having mine done in puerto Vallarta on feb 4th. I’ll let you know how it was when I get back home. I’ve had work done in Mexico before. I had an arm lift ( and it’s amazing how much more confidence I have just with having that done! I never wore a tank top before then.). I also had my teeth done there. Both the hospital and the dental office was as clean and immaculate as any place Canada has to offer! Anyways, I hope you get approved and are able to get coverage .. I didn’t even try to do it through Canada because I didn’t think I would be approved and also I am very compulsive Once I made my mind up that I wanted to do this, I would had it done that week if I could have :). To do it in Canada, there is a waiting list and I don’t want to be like this for any longer than I have to. Please post updates as I’m rooting for you!

I'm always on the run, I work 10 hours a week, drive 60 miles a day I have 2 kids in college who have to be shuffled around because they don't have their own cars at either end of the Island...and well I'm just not cooking a meal at 8:00 at night. That said I don't find fast food places to be bad. I get grilled chicken breasts and salads and other things from the drive through. The difference is....I do not consume them while I am driving. I wait till I get to a place where I can sit, and prepare them. If I get a grilled chicken sandwich I am not going to be eating it like it's made. I take the chicken off the patty toss that and then cut it up into mini bites with a knife and for and sit and enjoy the meal. Occasionally I add a side salad to it depending on my level of hunger. My hubby has made the mistake of trying to grab and eat on the run. That's a no go. So now he follows the same pattern as I do. Grab the grub, and wait till we are out of the car in a food designated area to consume it. There are times, when you are so hungry and you just don't have the time to even do that...and for those days I keep Protein Bars in the car and in my bag for eating on the run. I still try not to eat them while I'm driving, but maybe before I head out or once I get to my destination and have the car in park. I would love to be able to always plan for meals and cook them and have the time and place to relax and enjoy eating them, but that is not always workable with my lifestyle. I have learned the band is a tool and you have to find your way to work it into your lifestyle to make it work for you and it is possible.

Hunger after band??
MomgetsHealthy replied to madfroglady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Angermom - Wow! 40 pound is great! If I could do that I'd be happy! I do seem to be less hungry yesterday and today than I was day 2 and 3! But my dr. says liquids until 1st appointment which works out to be 15 days!!! It really hard trying to add variety. The yogurt idea is great. I'm going to try adding strawberry Protein to vanilla yogurt for lunch. -
Need Voices Of Experience- Obsessing Over Mfp
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Dooter's topic in Food and Nutrition
I want to add too that STRESS is a big factor in weight stalling. Our bodies are already freaked out right out of surgery as we drastically reduce the calorie intake, Water stores are depleted as we wipe out our sugar stores... it's not helpful to "worry" ourselves so much that it becomes obsessive. I am not opposed to anyone taking a break from logging our foods. Nor am I opposed to anyone throwing their scales out the window!! As long as you keep some kind of record, then that's all that's really needed. Some will only weigh-in monthly. I have to admit, I weighed daily but I did my best to keep the stresses of it under control. I wasn't perfect but it never got to the point where I was pulling what little hair I had left on my head out!! Anyway, back to the month weigh'ers... they seem like very calm, collected people. So are the people who don't stress themselves over logging day in and day out. I couldn't do that either. I only used that tool (and still do) when I needed to keep track to get be BACK on track. Once I did that, I just simply followed sleever rules - which are Protein first, Veggies/Fruits next then if there's any room left, a few bites of carbs. I did my best to make those better choices too. It all worked well for me. I went through it all too. I stalled, I fell off track a few times, I cried when I couldn't hit Onederland in a day... I mean, yeah it's frustrating. But, long story short, I'm here. You will be too, just remain patient and stress free. Trust me, it makes the ride here a whole lot better. Enjoy the scenery. -
Thursday I had .25 put in my band. All weekend I have not been able to keep anything down. I called the doc this morning but they are closed. I am trying to drink my protein shake but its going down so slow.

Why Is this So Hard? Is This Normal At 3 Weeks Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Liliana Arleen posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks post op and I been stuck in the same weight 187-188 for a week now. I know is still early but I was losing weight fast before when I was on the liquid diet Now that I started my mushies, I am not losing weight at all Is this normal? I am having my Protein shakes daily and eating my protein first before I try any mashed potatoes or something else. I can eat 2-3 tsp at once for each meal. I am not having Snacks Just my Protein Shakes as snacks and Water. I started going to the gym and just walking in the treadmill for now, I am taking it easy since I am only 3 weeks out. What I can do? I am getting frustrated and I am trying my best not to weight myself daily. PS I know many people asked these questions but I needed to vent- 12 replies

Recent Band Removal Need Opinion's Please
mrscastillo replied to mandyMO's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just had my band removed.... I had a slip and only lost 40lbs in the last 18 months... I suggest trying to do it on your own for 1month. Put yourself on a 1200calorie diet. High Protein, low carbs, little to no sugar.... That's what I did for my pre op diet for the sleeve and I dropped 11lbs.... Good luck! -
Ahhhhhhh It's Becoming Really Real
jen_1381 replied to missymobaby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon scheduled surgery for 11 days after my consult with him. All of the sudden, it felt very fast and very real. He also didn't require a liquid diet for me, but when I left his office for the consult I decided to cut down to 2 protein drinks a day and a healthy salad at night, then 5 days pre-op I went to just protein drinks and water. I was feeling so good the day before surgery I almost cancelled! I thought - I'm losing so good on my own right now, I can do this without surgery!! Then, logic set it, and I knew I couldn't maintain just protein drinks for the rest of my life. Besides being not the most healthy choice, I knew I would give into cravings, gain all of the weight back plus probably 10 lbs, and be back to my old, frustrated, overweight self. So I dove in head first, and have not regretted one day since surgery. -
14 months out and realllly struggling
Kindle replied to kyleebean's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm pretty close to your stats... 12 1/2 months out and 102 pounds down. I went home for the holidays and ate like crap...sweets, bread, potatoes, rice, more sweets, fried food, alcohol and more sweets. I made a lame ass attempt to get in all my Protein by drinking a protein smoothie everyday, but seriously, it was a bad week. The thing is I totally planned for it. I knew I couldn't resist my mom's yummy cooking so I didn't even try. I ate guilt free, knowing it would only last a week. When I got back I stepped on the scale and had gained 4 pounds. Since I was still jonesin for sweets I immediately detoxed the sugar out of my system by doing protein and veggies ONLY for a week. Then went back to "normal" eating, which was easier since that first week flushed out my sugar cravings. I lost the 4 pounds by the end of the second week. I think this is what you may have to do. Draw on whatever mental strength that got you through the preop and postop diets. Get rid of the Cookies and anything else you shouldn't be eating. If it's not in the house you can't graze on it. Stick STRICKLY to protein, healthy fat and veggies. Keep a Water bottle with you at all times. Drink everytime you want to eat. Drown yourself in fluids. Do you have any "before" pictures? Hang them on the fridge. Put your gym bag in your car. Go straight there either before or after work. Look for different protein options at the grocery store or deli. Explore new recipes. Transfer your desire to graze to preparing and tasting new high protein healthy foods. You can do this!
