I would take advantage of being able to email them. Just send them your weight at your pre-surgical apt. weight day of surgery weight todays weight your daily calorie( include daily protein & water average) an example of what you're eating and your daily physical activity and see if they have any feedback for you.

The older and/or larger you are/were the more excess skin will be an issue. As we age our skin starts losing it's ability to repair itself. Likewise, the heavier we are/were the more our skin has stretched out leaving a bunch on inelastic skin. Women have the additional skin stress of carrying babies. All of these stresses take their toll that make shrinking it all back in naturally rather unlikely. There really are no products that can help your skin recover in spite of the promises. It's probably time to use that magical potion that has been passed down through the generations from mother to daughter or father to son for use "as a last resort when the need is great" with vague warnings of a "price." The evil spirits that will infest your life are a small price to pay for no extra skin. When it comes time to consider surgical options most insurance tries to call it "cosmetic" and refuse to help. The word to keep in mind is "reconstructive" for which insurance will pay. Document yeast infections, rashes, back pain, anything you can come up with. Even then it is an uphill battle. Good luck, Tek

Please give me hope and tell me there's someone out there who hasn't lost their hair !
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Star1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve, and I have PCOS. My hair was down to my butt and was shedding anyways (pcos does that). At about 3 1/2 months post op I started noticing my hair was shedding more than normal and was thinning a little. I went and got it cut to where it just touches my shoulders. That helped a lot with looking fuller, and it's easier to manage and take care of. I always make sure to get the top level amount of protein (80-90mg per day) because your roots and hair need protein to grow but can't produce it. I also take biotin and do hair masks and serums because while it doesn't do anything to prevent hair loss or promote growth, it helps your hair look and feel healthy, shiny, soft, and keeps it from being frizzy. And also, self care is so important. That's why I'm huge into skin and hair care. -
I start everyday w 113 g fat free plain Greek yogurt w a scoop of Optimum Nutrition protein powder, today I had banana flavor. I find it mixes in nicely. I also enjoy sugar free pudding with a scoop of unflavored isopure mixed in. Again, I can't taste the protein powder, but that's me. Then I sip on bone broth, which I simmer w fresh herbs (strain off), 1 cup of that has 10 g protein. Between the yogurt, pudding and broth I'm already to 70+ g of protein. I move to soft foods next Tuesday, maybe then I'll start feeling more restriction.

Very upset after nutritionist appointment
HeatherE replied to Simples's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Sorry about your migraines. I get them too, but Vyepti infusions have hugely helped!!! Haven’t needed my rescue medication and went from every day migraines to almost never. Not sure what shakes do or don’t have artificial sweeteners, but you could try making your own with unflavored protein powder mixed with whatever you drink. I make smoothies without the protein as a treat blending crushed ice, a tiny bit of skim milk, a banana, and fat free chocolate syrup. Feels indulgent but only really some banana as far as calories. A nutritionist could probably recommend certain shakes. Also, Costco sells zero calorie Whole Earth sweetener made from monk fruit and erythritol. It’s not like Splenda, sweet n low, or Equal. Maybe it would work for you as an alternative to the artificial sweeteners or sugar. It’s all I use now! -

I had sleeve and I didn’t lose my hair. I was able to get my protein and vitamins in from the very beginning. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Most people say it’s just shedding though. A lot of shedding but like lilanicole said it’s not bald spots or anything. My plan if my hair did thin out was to get extensions to fill In until it grew back. Maybe you can try them now to help ease your fear if you haven’t tried them before. They look very natural if you get the human hair. You can ask your hairdresser to cut them to your length or leave them as is to add a little length for fun. -

This was one of my bigger fears also. I was adamant about hitting my protein and taking my vitamins daily. My hair is thick and has always shed a lot. I am just over 5 months post op, and it may be shedding a little more than normal but nothing that I can undeniably notice. Your hair falling out is because of trauma to your body, it can happy with any surgery not just WLS. Everyone's body reacts differently and recovers differently so no one really knows the real outcome. But, I can say that I am a part of 3 different support groups and 2 FB groups and I have only came across 1 woman that had terrible hair loss and she admittedly stated that she does not properly take care of herself since surgery. (ex: not taking vitamins, not eating right etc) I wouldn't worry that much just take care of yourself. PS: My hair is very long (my profile is an old pic) -
I didn't really feel that much restriction until I started eating actual food. For the first few days, I would sometimes have to throw up, because all of a sudden I would feel like I ate too much, even though I ate slowly, and then nausea would hit me. I still feel nauseated but I haven't had to throw up for more than a week. You're doing great with the protein. I've never managed more than 65 grams per day, but I cannot get the protein drinks or powder down.

Post Op: Struggling a little
Sunnyer replied to LookingForward22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did broth during the liquid phase and I also forced myself to drink a protein drink a day or eat a protein pudding, even if they made me gag. I didn't actually hit my protein goals during the liquid phase, and I still don't. I was getting maybe 15-30 grams of protein per day during the liquid phase, instead of 75, and during the puree stage 20-65 (most often 25-45) grams of protein per day. To date, my best day has been 65 grams of protein, so I've never actually reached the 75 gram goal. A lot of the protein after the liquid stage has been from fish and beans, but also from eggs and a little milk, Last week I added ground beef and found that I tolerate it well, better than milk products. But the protein drinks and puddings make me gag and throw up, so I makes me able to eat less during the day. I don't know how happy my doctors will be that I skip them, but I just can't. I'm nauseated enough as it is, more or less all day, so I can't deal with the fake sweet taste of most or all protein products. -
Loosing teeth after gastric bypass and the easy way out?
ShoppGirl replied to Erin18's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am so glad that I stumbled upon this post because I have somewhat unexplained dental issues and I am going to ask if they are possibly related to sleeve. I have been going to the dentist twice a year since I had teeth, religiously. I have had a few small cavities over the years but fortunately no issues beyond that. All fillings have to be replaced eventually so I was not totally surprised when my dentist found a chip in a filling (this was the first one I have ever had that chipped) When he found THREE chipped fillings though, I admit I was a little shocked. I mean, same time last year I had my teeth checked by the same dentist and had zero issues (plus the hygienist cleaned them 6 months ago and didn’t notice anything) so within a period of 6-12 months three fillings are beginning to fail?? This dentist took over the practice a couple years ago, he bought it from my favorite dentist who retired but my hygienist is still there so I just kept going. Well my first thought was is this guy just trying to make a bunch of money off of me by saying my fillings are chipped? I even considered getting a second opinion but of course I’d have to pay for that and I know the fillings will be due to be replaced anytime now. Well, now I am wondering if the acid is making the fillings wear faster because of the surgery?? My appointment is in a couple weeks. I will definitely be asking his opinion on this and what if anything I can do. I know it’s not a vitamin issue because i am very good about those and my labs have been excellent. For what it’s worth if it IS related to surgery though I did not have any vomiting or reflux. I did not have issues getting protein or vitamins. Didn’t even lose any hair?? This could all be total coincidence but it sure seems suspicious time wise. -
Very upset after nutritionist appointment
Lani2000 replied to Simples's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Protein is a big one. My nutritionist told me I needed 110 grams daily. I normally get around 100. I start the day with a quasi smoothie- frozen fruit with unflavored protein powder - whip it up with an immersive blender. That's about 30+ grams. You can use more than a scoop. I end the day with another one. During the day, I try to focus in protein enriched meals. Each evening I eat a protein bar that contains around 21 grams of protein. Careful of protein bars with little protein. -
How was the 2 week liquid diet
kcuster83 replied to ShannyG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon has their own version of the pre-op diet. They change drastically too. Mine had 2 options you could choose from. One option was 6 "Bariatric Advantage" and only calorie free drinks. The second option was 4 "Unjury" protein drinks and a list of foods and their serving sizes and you were allowed 6 of those servings a day. (SF pudding, yogurt, veggies, etc. No meats or anything like that) I choose option 2 just so I could chew things, it was a life saver. I am a huge veggie fan so I was very happy with my veggies which is pretty much all I ate from the list. Point: It was easy for me, I had no problem and was only truly hungry the first day and then I was fine. But, some peoples are VERY strict. I imagine it is harder without the chewing option. Just put your mind to it, remember why you are doing it and you will be fine. -

If there's a protein shake without artificial sweetners, I would love some recommendations. My neurologist just changed my rescue medication, put me on a new medication and had to give me something to break a 20 day rebound migraine. Artificial sweetners are a trigger and when I was in the shake phase, I was having migraines everyday as well. -

HeatherE replied to Simples's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I got in the habit of making sure I have 30g protein shake a day. I have Premier Protein Cafe Latte when I wake up so I get my protein and caffeine for the day. That way I don’t fill up on other liquid or less protein dense foods. I consider it the same importance as taking any other vitamin or medication. I even drag them on vacation or ship them where I’m going to be. Protein is really important. Do your body a favor and nourish it. It’s important. -

St77 replied to Simples's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
Right now, 3 1/2 months out from my RNY, I myself am also struggling to get enough protein in. I'm also struggling just to eat enough in general because I rarely feel hungry. I'd say I probably get about 20g protein a day and my nutritionist has already warned me that unless I can turn it around soon, I'm going to start seeing the negative results of lack of protein (muscle wasting, impact on immunity, affecting my hair, etc.). -
Trapped wind 3 weeks after surgery
Former heavyweight replied to Former heavyweight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi guys, sorry for the delay in replying. So, it escalated quickly, doctor sent me to a and e because he was worried about adhesions. CT scan, x ray and a wealth of blood tests later, the surgeon said that everything was clearly swollen but with no obvious cause. It was like my stomach and bowels were on strike. He said it's not actually that uncommon, especially given the fact I have covid . I was offered some sort of gas extraction thingy the next day, and given a lot of relaxants and a saline drip. Well, after a very uncomfortable night, things got back into action, the swelling went down. Thank god, it was truly uncomfortable. Decided against the gas extraction, just wanted to go home at that point. Been home for a bit now, feel lots better, even managed a protein shake and a teeny but of yoghurt. Anyways, thanks for all your messages, glad I got checked out, as it shows that everything is ok, and this pesky COVID is most probably the culprit. Better safe than sorry though! Thank you for all your support and messages -

Good to know! Thank you for your post! According to that calculation, I need 42g of protein a day. I have a 30g protein shake every morning and I try to eat high protein meals, so I’m definitely meeting/exceeding my protein goals. I still try to get about 60g of protein a day, but I don’t track it like I did at first. We don’t produce or store the protein and I have a huge fear of hair loss, so I’ll ALWAYS meet the protein requirements. -

My doctor said women must eat 60-60 grams after surgery, and men 80-100. so no... I don't think she has a problem. That is what you need. You can use plant protein, protein doesn't = meat. I am not full vegan, but try to eat as little animal product as possible. I use IsoPure flavorless protein in my soups and drinks to help hit my number. But I also use this Vegan Protein from 1st Phorm... when I tell you the french toast flavored one in coffee is AMAZING, it really is. They have a lot of flavors and other vegan options. https://1stphorm.com/collections/protein/products/vegan-power-pro -

Does Anyone Take Collagen Peptide Powder along with Your Protein?

I take a great collagen from 1st Phorm, I also use their proteins. They have great flavors that I rotate between to avoid getting tired/sick of them. Highly recommend people trying them. -
Meal replacement bars that are good?
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Blue432's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ones I’ve tried and liked- GNC lean bars Atkins bars (but be careful with the sugar alcohols), Bariatricpal bars (specifically the mint chocolate one), Protein One bars as they’re 90-100 calories and 10g of protein (can find at grocery stores near the other protein/granola bars), nature valley protein bars (these do have 6-8g of sugar but also provide fiber (usually from nuts/peanuts) and 10g of protein for around 180-200 calories depending on variety) l. I mostly buy these for my kids but I also eat them on occasion. Ones that are meh- pure protein bars, zone bars (too much sugar and weird texture), quest bars (the crunchy ones are good though!), power crunch (they have a kind of waxy outer coating to me). -

Thanks!! I've just ordered several clear protein drinks and the protein soups! Fingers crossed I can take them. Whey protein can cause an issue for me, focusing on the collagen with a few limited whey protein sources in soups or something else. -

Can you have clear protein drinks?? I hated the sweetness of shakes post surgery so the clear protein was a blessing. They sell a lot of protein packed soups on this site that may be worth trying. Many people also mention bone broth but I’ve never tried it. -

Sunnyer - I am the same and unable to stomach protein drinks. I am still pre-op and am very worried about this going forward. I am allergic to milk and eggs and get very sick, so in addition to the allergy I also have an aversion to things that are creamy even if they aren't milk based because of how sick the milk makes me. How are you getting in your protein during the liquid phase? -
Revision to bypass
Arleenmartmua replied to Sleevefailure101's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, i had the sleeve on October 6 last year, i lost all the weight and more. Unfortunately my Gerd was so severe i had to convert to bypass. I converted August 23rd so far so good. From what i know there is not a non surgical way to convert to bypass or to get a sleeve revision. I have a friend who had the sleeve and for following certain life style changes gained all the weight back she than got the bypass. She lost all the weight and has kept most of it off, she does struggle a lot and wishes she was more mentally prepare, she believes she wasn’t mentally prepare to make some changes and that has affected her progress both times. So i would say talk to your Dr and see what the best option for you is. Best of luck 🥰
