Hi Mc in Md,
I saw your stats and we are similiar in weight, height and age. I have my surgery Dec. 14 and I am 189 today @ 5' 1 1/2". I am 38 years old. I was wondering how long did it take you to reach goal? I am so excited to have it done. Do you have any advice to offer on what worked for you and what was the hardest to do? I plan on working out with weights 3 days/week and treadmill 3-4 days a week. Also, do you have any extra skin? I will prob need a tummy tuck because I have had 2 c-sections. Thanks for sharing your info.

Too funny, I'm from the Mexia/Groesbeck area. How long has it been since you were in the Mexia area? we are not far apart in age, Im 47. I bet we know each other, or at least the names. Melissa Haney ring a bell?
I will give Dr. Garwood a call next week and see if I can go in for a consult/visit, and see what he has to say.

Thanks for the encouragement. Wow, 20 lbs. I hope I do that great. They didn't put me on a diet prior to the surgery. I was surprised. I've lost 6 lbs. so far. I started yogurt today, Alma said we could when we got home. I don't have that full feeling yet. I don't think he put any fluid in my band. Guess it has to wait for swelling to go down. I really don't want to mess this up, but I'm hungry some of the time. Will just take a while to get used to this and then I will get my fill in 6 weeks. Write me.

I get mushie foods in a week and then after a week of mushie I can start eating regular foods. My first fill is not until Dec 29 so I should be good for Christmas. And listen 10 pounds lost is good. It beats the heck out of 10 pounds gained. I think if your band has slipped you would have some other types of symptoms. At least I would hope so anyway. The way my doctor explained it to me is without fills there is little to almost no restriction. But I don't know all doctors are different.

lol....wow...I can't believe that I had a message on here from you. It was way over a month ago. Things are going well with me....well for the most part. I stayed the same this past week....but I guess that's good considering I had 2 separate Thanksgiving dinners. How are things going with you?

Hi Everyone!
I'm new to the site, and still getting a hang of it... I'm from Northern New Jersey (right across the Hudson) looking forward to getting the lapband. I've researched it, and found out that my insurance covers it as long as my doctor is in the plan. December 4th is my 1st information seminar and I'm super excited!!! I know it can take from 3 to 6 months, but I'm confident the journey will be worth it! I look forward to making friends on this site and learning about each of your journeys.. Till then...

Crustless Pizza
1) microwavable dish (meal portion size)
2) pour in about 1/3 to 1/2 jar of Ragu (I use the Homemade Style)
3) cover that with Hormel Turkey Pepperonis (70% less fat). If you like bacon Hormel makes bacon bits that are reduced fat (big bags available at Costco)
4) cover that with favorite low fat toppings (I use Birdseye Pepper Stir Fry--it consists of 3 colors of pepper chunks and onion chunks--I keep bags in the freezer and throw in various dishes).
5) Top with shredded Kraft Free fat free cheese (I use both Mozarella and Cheddar--just had some for lunch today) or you can use low fat shredded if you prefer
6) Nuke for 2 minutes on high.
Enjoy.

Hello Terry. Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I am going to do this. I had a long talk with myself last night and today is a the beginning of a whole new life. My sister wouldn't want me to waste time grieving and getting bigger, she'd want me to live and enjoy life. So here it goes.
My doctor is Dr. Upadhyay (looks like I spelled it wrong again but I got the spelling from Alta Bates literature) lol. I did the H. Pylori test today and have an appointment with my Pulmonologist so he can clear me for surgery. I'm getting closer and becoming excited. Well you take care and I'll talk to you soon gonna get on the eliptical trainer it's been a couple of weeks so hopefully I'll be able to do at least 20-30 minutes.

Hello... I am new to this forum and have a few questions... I just got the lapband a week ago... and I have fill questions. When it is time for a fill is it better to have the doctor use a xray or not? How do they know when enough is put into the band?
Thanks

Hi, Chelsbels, I thought so. Finally figured it out when I went to her site. Hello, and good luck!! Hope you bug the insurance company next week and get some answers. Sometimes we need to do a bit of self-help. Sue is FANTASTIC, but she can only move them along so fast.

I am a 34 year old single mom from Geneva and decided to do this journey with my friend, she started the process before me and is still awaiting her approval. We thought we would be going through stages together. I also went through the day one clinic. I was supposed to have it on Nov. 13th in Oswego but Insurance decided to throw a curve ball at me the night before the surgery and tell me I couldn't have it in Oswego. I ended up getting it done on the 15th in Chicago. I really don't know what to expect at all. I don't understand the messages my stomach is giving me. I will say losing 10lbs in the first week was wonderful. How long does the discomfort of the port area to go away I'm still having pains in the site. That's the only thing stopping me from working out right now. Thanks

Since I start on full foods tomorrow (Tuesday) I won't have any restrictions for Thanksgiving. I started on my diet back in April, so I haven't been on as fast of a track as you have, what you've done is remarkable. But anyway, I decided that I give myself certain special days or holidays without restrictions. This way the days and weeks and months of dieting doesn't seem quite so endless. My daughter's graduation party was one of those days. So while I don't expect to really pig out on Thanksgiving, I won't deny myself some pumpkin pie either. I will get my first fill on Dec 17th, so Christmas should be pretty restricted by the band. What are your options for Thanksgiving?

Hey Tyme4change-- This is my first post. I'm actually in the same home town and have decided to have the surgery. I've have my first consultation with the Dr. in about a week. I can't wait. I'm excited and scared at the same time. I'm seeking God and trusting Him throughout the whole process. Knowing as long as I allow Him to guide and direct me everything will be ok. I was wondering which Dr. you used. Any help and advice you could offer I would really appreciate. Take care and God Bless. Please let me know if I can email you with some questions.

I ll keep my fingers crossed for you. I ve had my band for 6 weeks now and so far had no problems. I can eat most things but dont eat bread and its much easier than pre op to turn down foods. Your appetite changes. I still have days when I want to eat everything but I cant so I dont. Let me know how you get on. One piece of advise I feel I must pass on is get yourself a non wired bra for post op as due to the wound sights its really uncomfortable wearing a wired bra.
Best wishes
Caroline
