I also think 10 minutes is too fast. We are supposed to eat slower in order to feel full faster. If that makes any sense. It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to alert your brain that you're getting or are full. I'm back to regular foods now. This week, I've been bouncing UP in ounces. No loss so far although official WI is Friday. It's not looking good for a loss this week and looking like a GAIN! I've lost about 8lbs since the day of surgery (15 if you count the 7lbs of surgery gain that took a week and a half to lose!!). I've always been a slow loser. Can't see why this will be any different for me. Speaking of the surgery gain, do you include that in your post-surgery loss or just the other weight?

Hi! I was banded on 8/13. I am constantly amazed when I read about how quickly some people are allowed to progress through food stages. My bariatric center wants us to go two full weeks at each stage. I am getting to week 6 now, which means I will be ready for "unrestricted" textures, including, at long last, raw veggies, fruits and veggies with skin, and nuts. I'm not in such a hurry to have them, but it is nice to reach this stage. I'm pretty contented with the soft food stage as I can eat almost everything I want anyway. But a good salad - oh yum! I've been craving it for weeks now. I have to say I cannot say thank you enough to everyone who posts and replies here. I was beginning to worry early last week as my weight went up another pound. Then someone reminded me (duh me) that I haven't had a fill, and with each new food stage I'm likely taking in more calories again. I am due to see the Dr. on 10/2 and find out how much he wants to do for my first fill. Because of thinning in my abdominal wall from previous abdominal surgeries I've had, he's sending me to a radiologist to have my first fill done under the fluoroscope. I can feel the outline of my port, but have NO problem with this. It may even mean less time for me to wait for a fill - the average is about 1 1/2 hour right now if you go to the office. My point is, right now my pouch is unrestricted, and I'm clearly healing well. I can eat MUCH more quantity of food than I thought in a meal. Still less than before I was banded, but much more than the nurses led me to believe. So I was getting concerned about it. Now I feel much more relaxed and am lightening up on myself. I did feel, for the first time, the sensation of food getting stuck yesterday. I think I took too big a bite & didn't chew it small enough before swallowing. I didn't bring any back up, but there was a minute there when I was quite uncomfortable. Lesson learned! One reason (in my top 10) for choosing banding was because of the low purge incidence. I am not a purger. So PB's are not something I want to experience - EVER. Compliant little brown-noser, that's me! LOL. Thanks to all. I really appreciate your willingness to share your experiences and support one another. It makes me feel quite pleased that I chose this route to help me lose weight.

I have officially joined the "Losers Club" and I am so excited. I was sleeved on November 10 by Dr. Aceves. From the pre-opt diet to now I have lost 11lbs. Wow....Yah for me! Dr. Aceves and his team were wonderful. I still am experiencing some pain and lots and lots of gas. My only struggle is trying to ensure that I am getting all of my fluids in.

You would need to ask your insurance company how many appeals they offer but I'm aware they often they want the info within a specific time framelike as an example 10 days - to add to current request but as an example- 30 days with an appeal. Every insurance company is different those examples are for mine insurance company. Stay strong and focused even if it takes a bit of time. Keep us updated. Hope all goes well.

How much can I eat in a sitting 1-4 weeks after surgery?
Pete-TheTimeIsNow replied to JoyLilith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During weeks 1-4 if you are on liquids/purees, the restriction won't kick in. You'll feel the restriction when you go on solids. This is why the Dr. suggested to limit the purees by volume, to avoid taking in a lot of cals. (And I guess to train me in the proper portion sizes for later) After the surgery gas dissipated, I haven't experienced stomach pain. While eating or otherwise. Had some discomfort a couple of times when eating puree too fast (big spoonful, not waiting enough time in between) This is more or less what I followed. Week 1. Used a 2oz medicine cup. One every 10-15 minutes. More like 5 minutes toward the end. If too fast, would get stomach pain. Week 2. Liquid diet, protein shakes, etc. I could drink a protein shake (12 oz), in about 30 mins. Just a sip at a time, no particular wait in between. 3-4 shakes per day. Week 3 - 4. Pureed phase. 2 Shakes. 2 snacks. 2 meals (whatever protein was for lunch/dinner, pureed with salsa, broth or mayo). meals limited to 3 fl. oz. (~ 1/3 cup) Week 5. Solids. Dr. suggested 2 shakes, 1-2 snacks, and 2 meals. Meals consisting of 4 oz total. 2 oz protein, 1oz vegs. and 1 oz carbs (optional). -
How much can I eat in a sitting 1-4 weeks after surgery?
JoyLilith posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a few days post op and feeling okay overall. I've started with the liquid phase and currently I'm making banana smoothies with added protein that I drink throughout the day. I drink water in the morning, wait 10 minutes and then I sit down and slowly get one glas of smoothie down in 30 minutes. It's maybe 200ml or 2dl. Is that too much in one sitting this early on? I don't feel nausea or too full, but I do have some pain in my stomach most of the time, but that's pretty normal this soon after surgery? Should I just see how it goes further down or does anyone feel like this is absolutely too much and that I should take longer? Sent from my KB2003 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Anyone else catch this show? My Tivo recorded it last week for the first time, so I don't know if it's new or what (on National Geographic Channel). First one I saw, they follow the story of how someone (tourists all I've seen so far), agree to do smuggling to make some extra $$ while on a vacation.. get caught, and go to jail. First one was a guy smuggling nearly $2m in gold to Napal, and got caught, and was sentenced to 8 years in Napal's jail. He had an uncle in the royal guard or something, and was able to get him pardoned on the king's birthday after 8 months of jail time. It's really surreal, so this is what I expected. I watched Mexico last night  So we follow the story, they are doing illegal stuff, so shame on them.. but it still makes me think of Broke Down Palace-- though these people brought it on themselves. So near the end, I expect to hear how they were released.. they've been interviewed the whole time, how they thought they were smuggling weed from Costa Rica to Amsterdam (weird concept imo), and the layover in Mexico they got caught.. and it was a crap load of Crack, not weed. So they got 10 years in prison. And they are currently serving it!! So near the end, they are showing us around their cells in prison in Mexico City. They won't be out until 2014. What a crazy thing to happen, it fascinates me. I couldn't imagine being on vacation somewhere, and getting dazzled by the idea of smuggling drugs or gold, etc. through foreign countries. Wow. Anyway, this is one of my new favorite shows, it's so scary!!

Hello All, I have 8.25 in a 10 band. I so wish that I can get that beautiful, post op restriction feeling. Is that what the sweet spot feels like? I don't know when I'll be there. I can still eat much more then I should and am following the diet plan and Water fast. Are any of you fully banded with total restriction? Thanks, Suz

I got my Inamed book from my doctor with all my band information on it (Size, Ref #, and seriel number) I have an 11.0 cm. band that holds 9cc. according to my book BioEnterics Inamed Adjustable Gastric Banding Systems come in 4 sizes. 9.75 cm. maximum fill volume is 4cc. 10 cm. maximum fill volume is 4cc. 11 cm. maximum fill volume is 9cc. and the Vanguard maximum fill volume is 10cc. It doesn't say how big the Vangaurd band is at least on the systems components page where I got the rest of the information. It gives the access port features but doesn't mention there being more than one size, but I know I have heard of a mini port before. It could be there the book has 97 pages and I didn't look at all of them. It also says the port has been tested to over 200 hundred punctures with a 20-guage non-coring needle. I hope I don't need more than 200 fills .

What kind of problem are you having with this type of protein ( meats )? I have problems with pork and eggs they just take longer for my stomach to digest. Personally I feel I'm still healing from surgery i was sleeved on 10-8-12. It's a process just be patient your body may need longer to heal more. I also try to eat my meats ground up for now that helps a lot. They sale like ground turkey, chicken, pork in the grocery stores I need that extra help for now. I hope this helps. Jenipher

Hello to every one and nice to meet you all. I guess pain wise I am doing good have not needed to take any pain med yet. coughing at the main port sight is a not so fun time and sneezing that takes your breath away for a second but the pain subsides. My main issue and question is everyone tells me the vomiting will go away in a week or so well the problem is I have not even felt like vomiting. I am doing the liquid diet thing but I have not felt full or nauseous. I have been holding back eating large amounts because I do not want the band to slip or anything. i feel like my biggest issue now is being SOOO tired of the liquid diet even a piece of dry toast would be a banquette right now. Any suggestions or comments and should i be worried something came unhooked or something as I do not feel sick at all? Thanks Rich

Almost out of the 200's!
Sleeveofsteel replied to cmaloney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the exact same starting weight as you. Sleeves 8/6/12. I hit 199 on Dec. 26th! My goal was Christmas.....one day off still counts for me! I hovered at 202 in a stall for 10 days, it was mentally excruciating!! Then I hate pretty badly on Christmas Eve and Day and boom... Down I went in the scale! Every time I'm in a stall, I up my calories for a couple days and the stall breaks. Everyone might not agree with that, but I discovered it on accident the first time and it continues to work for me. Now I'll drop about 10 lbs. in 2 weeks and stall for a bit again. It's been that way the whole time. Once you hit "Onederland". You'll feel like a different person and be even more motivated! Good luck and hang in there!! Let us know when you reach Onederland!! -

A good bariatric Multivitamin is always a good choice post-banding. All of the Vitamins contribute, in some way, to your metabolism, but the ones that specifically claim to have these effects usually have other ingredients that can be harmful at worst, and useless at best. I order my vitamins from my doctor's office; they are powder in capsule form, therefore very bioavailable.http://bmisurgery.org/index.php?ID=vitaminssupplements My doctor also recommends supplementing with Co Q-10, which very definitely helps with energy levels. He requires it during the perioperative period, but those of us who continue with it long term really do notice a benefit.

Good luck, but I would start with your band doc......it kind of sounds like a slip or erosion....I hope not. I have been through that recently and almost lost my band. I am still unfilled and am gaining wt...already up 10 pounds. Best wishes, post after your doc visit. Mimi

I do the same thing except its with 10 pounds up and down. I actually have to use really good will power to lose those 10 pounds too. I can eat anything I want although I try not to. Thats one of the reasons I am being checked to see if I have stretched myself out or not. IDK the results yet but hopefully thats not a problem. I wonder if because ur drinking if everything u eat is getting washed down quickly and thats why u can eat more. I know not drinking with meals is really hard for some people. Anyway I wish u the best and GL.

3 weeks post op, 10 pounds down. Is that good?
catwoman7 replied to Julie1292's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
most normal WLS patients lose 15-25 lbs the first month, so yes, 10 lbs in the first three weeks is fine. Of course, there are outliers on either side of that range, but just from my own observation from hanging around these another boards for the last 5-7 years, that seems to be a pretty normal range. I think people sometimes have a skewed perception because of shows like "My 600 lb Life", but you have to keep in mind that those folks start out WAY heavier than most of us do. as long as your weight is gradually trending down, you're good. I lost 16 lbs during the first month (and I started out more than 100 lbs more than you, and I lost all of my excess weight - so you're fine! -
Sleeved 12-19-2016 Hw-274 Sw-268 Cw- 203 Gw- 175 This forum is totally my sounding board.. lol Here I sit, almost, 5 months out of surgery, 71 lbs down from my high weight, and feeling bad about my progress... I feel like my lose has slowed dramatically. Only losing about 10lbs a month. Hair falling out by the handfuls. Still struggle with my protein intake. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE seeing the overall progress I've made, just the day to day is a struggle. Also, anyone avoiding buying cloths? I find myself avoiding buying cloths because I am afraid to try things on that may be too small.... I have been wearing the same pants to work since right after surgery. As you can imagine, they look ridiculous but I can't seem to give them up. In the back of my head, I think, "save them for when you're fatter again"..... surgery doesn't fix the mind.. that's all on us. I also find myself hating when people say I'm "getting skinny". My head says, "I'm nowhere close to skinny and never will be" and "Sssshhhh, don't jinx it!!" Anyway.. just ranting really.. I hope everyone is progressing and loving life!!!!

I have had good success with my band but lap band is not for every one and I have had several co-workers who have not done as well and one even had what they are calling band failure. She did not tolerate the band well and the restriction, she had her band removed after 2 years and had the gastric sleeve 2 months ago and has done very well. Typically you do not lose weight as fast with lap band and some seem to lose faster than others. The one thing you really need to focus on is, are you ready for WLS. The surgery itself which ever one you have only gives you a tool and the tool is only as good as it is used. It does make your stomach smaller, or as with lap band it gives you restriction, but what it does not fix is how we think and relate to food. That is the hardest part of the journey, developing healthy habits and truly making a life style change. If you are a bulk eater than you will do with WLS because it will limit how much you eat at meals, if you are a grazer and like to nibble on things off and on through out the day, you will struggle no matter what surgery you have. I strongly urge anyone thinking about WLS to have physiological screening and be totally honest with all your issues and continue with a few sessions for the first 6 months after surgery. Another key for success to support, family and friends can either support or sabotage you, make sure you have their total support. Your life does change after WLS and for me it has been a positive change. I am almost 2 years out with my LB and am 5 lbs from my goal weight. I have changed my life style, I eat healthy, I exercise, I weigh and measure everything I eat, I log my food everyday, I drink my water and get all my protein in. This has been a journey but for me well worth it. When you have your appointment with your MD, I suggest you discuss all your options, be honest about your commitment, how you eat and how much support you have. My husband went with me through every pre surgery visit and seminar. I wanted him to understand everything I was going to experience. For the most part he has been my rock but he also has went through some turmoil. He now has a tiny wife and I had been over weight and they past 10 years morbidly obese. WLS puts strain on relationships if you allow it because you both change and you must be honest with each other along the way. Good luck to you and I hope I haven't scared you off. But I want you to be prepared for all the emotions and obstacles you will have to over come in this journey. Good luck, Diane

:clap2:Well today is better. I went for my first office visit since my surgery on Sept. 27,2007. I was glad to see my doctor. I was not so happy with him. I was hungry and felt I had left 2 messages and no one returned my calls. I wasn't in the state of emergency, no fever, nothing I felt I should call him on his cell about. But all in all I had left 2 messages. Sweet as he is, He turned it all around and said u know no matter what you can call my cell !!! Well I couldn't give a response so...He is very likeable and cute so what's a woman to do. I had lost 10 1/2 lbs so he was pleased wth me. I go back in 3 weeks for my 1st fill. He really shoots from the hip, no playing around kinda guy. Kinda harsh buts says he can't sugar coat any part of this or we run with it. Simple we use any excuse in the world to make adjustments for our crazy life style. One thing that he told me the day before the surgery, which I have to say kinda made me stand up and take notice was... He was talking to 2 other women besides myself, all getting the surgery & says look all three of yall ladies are wearing slip on shoes. So you can just throw them on and throw them off. Saying yall have made adjustments for your obesity. Which while thinking kinda pissed me off, but I had to be real or I will never get to the bottom of why I was ever over weight in the 1st place. Like he mentioned grabbing a chair without arms. I guess things we never really take notice of. My thing was seems like every time I went there everyone was larger than me. Yeah like me being 257 lbs. was small. What a joke, so I was justifiing me being severly morbitly obese. Just another excuse to excuse my lifestyle. Like a drug addict, well I only smoke a little weed or alcohol, I drink only on weekends, I'm not on the streets making an a$$ out of myself or beating my kids or the cops being at my house cause someone was out of control. Just all excuses to justify why we do what we do. By the way I do not do drugs or drink alcohol, lol So I know 1 thing for sure I have to get down to the real facts of why I seemed t not be happy , which I have loads of fun, or just seem to want to destoy my life. One thing about all this surgery, yeah I want the fine body, but my health was falling so much, I just want to be lighter & live so much longer !!! Now there I said the real TRUTH!!! :clap2:

I get weepy when I'm exhausted. When I was working full time and going to college and had 2 kids I would come home at night sometimes and just sit and cry for about 10 minutes. Not sad, just wiped. Then it was over and I felt better. I'm sure it will pass, but you should mention it to your dr. anyway, especially the temp. part. Feel better soon!!

my doctor still keeps asking me if " im sure" about lap band , as opposed to bypass. he says " its not too late to change your mind" . ( im scheduled to have my lapband on feb. 19 ) I hate the way he asks me that. It really makes me second guess my choice and makes me wonder if he maybe knows something i dont know? I dont want to fail. I want to choose the right surgery for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this decision? Dont say to do my research, because believe me when i say I HAVE !! but the bottom line is that i really dont care which one. I kind of like the less invasive-ness of the lap band, but Im open to everyones opinion. I only want to have WLS once.
