  1. Ok, so i was banded on May 13th (almost a week ago). I've had basically no problems other than the normal gas, a little achey from incisions and actually being hungry (at least I think I am). Last night I had home made egg drop Soup for dinner (my husband found the recipe on this forum). I was uncomfortable from about a half hour after I finished it until around 7:30 this morning. I even woke up in the middle of the night uncomfortable. I figured I just ate too much or didn't chew the egg enough. I wasn't nauseas or sick and I didn't feel like I had to throw up, just uncomfortable. I wasn't worried, just decided I'd take it easy today. Well, today I've had Decaf Chi tea, beef broth, Protein shake, Jello and Water. The last thing (other than water) I had was Jello around 6:30. I was fine until about 8:30 and then I started getting that feeling again. Kind of like pressure in my stomach - only this time I KNOW I didn't eat anything. I know some people say their bands are tighter in the morning. Could it be possible that it feels tighter at night?

    Getting Banded July 6Th!!!

I just got approved by insurance so I am all in for July 6th. I only have 2 days liquids before surgery and low cal (no fats, no refined sugar) for 1 week before that. -- at least that is what I think. I guess i will find out at my preop meeting next thursday. I am tempted to do a food bucket list.... bad idea right? I should go to the all you can eat brazilian steak house and eat chilis crispy chicken tenders for all my meals, chinese buffet?

    How much longer

Mine was a quick turn around, but mostly because I was working closely with the coordinator due to an upcoming change in insurance. I needed my surgery to be done before the change over or else I wouldn't have been able to do it. That said, most people in our program usually wait about 4 weeks from approval to surgery day.
  4. I had my lapband at Central Baptist in the fall of 2009. Dr. Oldham performed my surgery and I have had all my fills at your Lexington and Georgetown offices. I have not had one since May 2009 and have done well maintaining my goal weight for the past year. For the past few weeks, I have endured severe pain when I eat even a bite of food and now drink any liquid. I called the office and was informed that Dr. Oldham is no longer there. Could you please tell me where to turn? I am so frightened and in so much pain. I am alone and don't know what to do.
  5. Kourtany93 it took about 2 weeks.

    Crossing Fingers

Me too. After an unrelated health delay, I have an appointment with my NUT and social worker for a check-in today. Hoping to see my surgeon next week, and hoping to schedule surgery for Dec. I look forward to "shopping in my closet" soon too!

    Pain meds... ?

Surgery next Monday. Had an appt. with the pharmacist at the surgery center this week. I'll have morphine in the hospital and Lortab elixir at home. As for my other meds (3 kinds for hb), I will crush them and mix them with my liquids. Everything I take can be crushed. Be sure to check with your doctor. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  8. I Just found out I am approved. I will be having surgery next week on the 29th hopefully. I am excited and scread at the same time. I am ready for the change. If anyone has any advice to give, that would be great!

    Just Got Approved!!! :)

Me too! I don't have a date yet but it will be in the first two weeks of Jan. I AM so excited! A great way to start the New Year and this year I can make a New Year's resolution KNOWING I can keep it.
  10. I got the results from my EGD and some additional testing they did as a result (Gastric Emptying) and I was diagnosed with Gastroparesis though I'm not 'presenting' with the more severe symptoms... (Yet?) I was originally slated for the sleeve. My doctor said he is still leaning towards the sleeve but it's important that I understand that if the portion of my stomach that is left is not functioning properly I would have to then have the sleeve converted to a bypass, probably within weeks of the initial surgery. Scared. Worried. Feeling like my shot at a real life change just got really complicated if not shut down... Anyone else hit this particular hurdle?

    Banded on May 19th

I had gas (burping) for two weeks! I sounded like a man lol what helped me was the gas x. The dissolving strips. Walking helped too. I was banded 4/27

    Gastric bypass surgery

Welcome. I am about 6 weeks behind you and won't be quite as far along in my journey as you. Seriously - great job! Any tips?
  13. Someone please explain this to me. If they expect someone to lose 65% of their excess weight. How do you figure this? At weigh in, I was 280. Today, a week and a half from surgery, I weigh 267. What is my excess body weight? I am 5' 11''.
  14. Dr. Hoxworth and Dr. Martin are both great. I've not had any experience with the other two surgeons. Both are super easy to work with and make you feel comfortable. Dr Hoxworth is my doctor, but Dr. Martin did a quick un-fill for me the other week and was just as nice to deal with. The only not-so-great thing is that appointments for those guys fill pretty quickly since they are only in office a few days out of the week, and are doing surgeries the rest. Usually my fills are 6-9 weeks apart (which is either just right, or sometimes too soon for me!), and if I have to reschedule, it usually takes another few weeks. Though I was just recently Enlightened on the fact that if I really need to get in for a fill, to leave a message for Dr H instead of talking to the front desk, and he will see about fitting fills in. Other than that, the whole office is great! You won't be disappointed.

    Surgery in 3 hours!

I hope both of you are doing good! I had mine 3 weeks ago and I'm starting to be able to do more and more every day. I had a couple issues. Constipation probably from the pain meds and a blood clot scare. I try to walk often and take Miralax daily! Gas X strips helped with gas pains if you need that! Anyways, I'm new too and would love to share experiences etc. Praying for fast recoveries for all! Kat

    Question for PCOS patients!

I was diagnosed with PCOS and couldn't get pregnant for the life of me. even though we tried. But now, nearly 7 months out from surgery, i'm 5 weeks pregnant! I do have a 6 year old son, but we didn't really want so much time between children, but it happened, and he is very excited about the baby. Just stop the BC and give it a try for a few months. Good luck!

    Liftin kids

How much do your kids weigh? When I was banded I was lifting my then-2 y.o. after about two weeks, even though she was slightly over the limit I'd been given. You're right, it just isn't always possible to completely avoid it when you're feeling fine and there's no one else around. But why do you need to lift them to put them to bed? If they're little enough to still be in cribs, then I'd imagine they are not so heavy as to do you harm. Can they help you themselves?

    Family Dinners

Now that I'm not overfilled, I'd agree. When I was overfilled, a meal wouldn't go by that my husband and soon would look at me and (apparently by the expression on my face) ask, "Stuck again?" Since we sit down together as a family for meals, I cook the way I need to eat and, as a result, my family eats healthier now as well. I also now only fix enough for that one meal. In the past, there would always be leftovers because I'd cook extra 'in case' someone would be hungrier. Now I understand that normal people eat normal amounts and then they're satisfied. So I fix normal amounts...and nobody has ever walked away from the table hungry. I do occasionally bake french bread or my special artisan type crusty bread because they like it, but I never eat it. I also will 'occasionally' (*maybe* once a week on Sunday) make a dessert, but I never eat it. Wheat and sugar are taboo to them. .
  19. I went for my post op follow up and I lost 8lbs at there office. But at my primary office a total of 14lbs. In so happy , I thought maybe more but hey I'll take that. I was told to start eating mushy foods and I did. I had to meals today and I noticed in slightly sore. I might just have one meal tomorrow and shakes and yogurts the rest of the day. Good luck to those out there feeling my pain. So far it's worth it.

Anyone lose the weight post baby

I am 20 weeks pregnant and 1.75 years out from the sleeve. I lost 130 pounds. At 5'11" I weight around 160. I am up to 183 as of today. That is 23 pounds weight gain in 21 weeks (21 on Wednesday). I have NO clue whether or not I am going to lose this weight, but my restriction might as well be a thing of the past. I can eat my FACE off! I am so hungry all the time! I am hoping that the hunger goes away after baby, but I don't know. I was in maintenance when I got pregnant...I wish I gotten pregnant while still losing, but hey. I am pregnant for the first time at 36! That is a miracle. I have gained weight all over and still can squeeze into my clothes from my thighs, but can not button anything in the tummy. Shirts are little snug in the arms but mostly in my tummy. I feel big, but I am not going to let it get me down. I am not working out which just is terrible. I can not function in this cold weather and I am waiting for the warm weather to hit so I can go walking. Did i mention I can eat? Like everything! So scary!
  21. Hi Forum, I am new to the site and wanted to share that I had my VSG surgery on June 4th. I selected Dr. Atkinson from Las Vegas Weight Control Center and had my surgery at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. From pre-op to 2 days post-op I am happy with the service I received from the LVWCC and Desert Springs Hospital. They were all very caring, informative and the post-op recovery was amazing. The nurses at Desert Springs (Tessie, Dena, Kim, Meghan) were great. My journey started several months ago after I was so disgusted with myself, nutrition and inconsistent weight loss results. I am a 38 year old male, who is 6'2 and pre-op was 325 lb. I have struggled my entire life with weight loss and obesity. I have tried everything from exercise (which helped) but it alone was not enough, Nutri System, Injections and in the end they all delivered failed results or inconsistent weight loss for me. As a result, I developed depression and struggled with other aspects of life as I felt I was being consumed by weight. Often times, friends family, etc would say "you look good", "you don't need surgery" and "you carry the weight well" This never helped and it only made me feel worse. Several months back, my partner suggested that I reconsider VSG because initially I was scared of the procedure. After weeks of consideration I took the steps to schedule my consult with LVWCC and Dr. Atkinson. He was calm, not pushy and answered all of my questions making me feel at ease. I had a bad experience with another local doctor who used the term "fillet me", which made me feel uncomfortable. I was a cash pay customer, so I didn't have the many insurance hurdles that are required. What I can tell you is that 2 days post-op I feel good, with only minor stomach pain. Thus far, I think the worst part about the entire experience was waking up from the anesthesia, it was tough for me. I stayed one night in the hospital and had hiccups and belching...even with a lot of walking. Day 2, hiccups, etc are gone except for minor wound pain but i have been able to keep liquids down no problem. As my journey continues I will post additional information. For those considering the surgery, don't be scared but remember to find a surgeon that you are comfortable with. That is very important and will give you peace of mind. Any questions, please feel free to notify me. Chris

    Bile?

My experience may not be the same but I have the same waking up choking on Fluid that burns terribly. I have been taking an antacid once daily for a week or so and it hasn't happened since. I will follow this post. Its definitely a nasty way to wake up! Also I never had acid coming up before my surgery. If anyone knows if there is a connection maybe to our new small pouch? Surgery on December 23rd

I too am getting banded tomorrow! I'm fluctuating between being really excited and being pretty nervous. What I am nervous about the most is getting weighed in tomorrow at the hospital. I lost 11lbs in the 2 weeks I was on my pre-op diet. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but I am wondering if the scale at the hospital shows a 1-2 lb difference, will they refuse to do the surgery? What if the scales are just calibrated differently? Anybody have any words of advice?
  24. YESS the first three days are hard, and I was on the exact same diet as you lol. I'm on day 7 now with surgery tomorrow! You can do it girl!
