I began struggling with my weight in college. I was always gaining and losing the same 5-10 lbs. Then after my first child was born, I needed to lose the final 20 baby lbs. I got pregnant again after 9 months and yo-yo'd from there on. Up to over 200 then down to 104 for two years. After years of gaining and losing, exercising, starving, I was up to 240. I heard about the lapband when I was 57 years old. I had survived breast cancer and wanted to stay healthy for the rest of my life so that I could enjoy my three children and 8 grandchildren. My surgery was in the fall of 2007. I had lost down to 210 and went through all the hoops but still my insurance did not cover any lapband surgeries at the time. So my inheritance money went to pay for my surgery.Everything went well and within 18 months I was down to my goal of 135 and I have maintained this for over a year. I am very pleased with the results; however, the past few weeks, I have become very sick. I kept hoping things would resolve themselves but they don't seem to be. I experience severe pain when I eat a bite of anything. So I am surviving on liquids mostly warm soups. It seems to be getting worse.I called my surgeon yesterday, finally and was informed that he no longer practices here. I am now terrified. I just read on this site about band slippage and people having their bands removed. That is my nightmare. I know I would gain the weight back and where do I turn now???Will my insurance cover any further surgery? Probably not.
