How do i break through a stall?!

I don't have enough proof that this works, but here's what I try when I want to break a stall. High Intensity Training - giving maximum effort for a short period of time. My exercise routine only consists of walking, but at work, I have access to the stairwells. I try to climb 5 flights of stairs as fast as I safety can. My best time has been 1 min 26 seconds. My lungs and legs are burning by the 3rd flight and I take a 10 second break at the 3rd and 4th floor. If you are doing the same exercise routine, eventually your body is going to become more efficient at it. If your weight program consists mainly of free weights, try alternating with weight machines that force your muscles to work in a different way. If you're on the elliptical, pick a program that changes up the one you're used to. Alternate speeds, add in inclines or switch off to a Stair Master for a few exercise sessions. When I used to do the elliptical, I set up my music playlist to have one really fast, motivating song ( like Motley Crew's "Kick Start My Heart") every 4th song, and I would go all out for the duration of that song, then slow back down to my normal pace. Keep up the good work, you'll get there.

    First Fill Special Instrucitons ????

Here are some basic guidelines from the lapband.com web site. This site is full of valuable information for new bandsters. In the early months of my journey I lived on this web site and have read pretty much all the articles. I wanted to be as informed as I could be so I could be successful in my journey and work through the frustrations. So far this has worked well for me, I am 19 months post surgery and 103 lbs lost with 17 to go to goal. Good luck to you and I hope this helps. http://www.lapbandta...l-instrucitons/

    Restriction

Okay. 10 days post op. I am allowed eggs, cheese, refried Beans, mashed potatoes etc. I haven't felt restriction. Yes, I've burped and stopped eating after that in fear of "too much". I have been able to eat 1-2 eggs at a time, a whole sugar free pudding cup at another time, etc. no tightness. No restriction. I'm stopping ahead of myself. I can gulp liquids with zero issues. Is this normal? I figured I would feel "so full". Hmm. And nothing is irritating me. I have been eating fine. Everything goes down fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. Hi all, I'm scheduled to have surgery July 19 at the Wish Center in Wa State. They have a long evaluation process which is why it is taking so long to get in. I'm more afraid now though because I've read that a lot of you are 40-55 BMI, but I am much larger than that. They have "estimated" my BMI to be between 62 and 68. (I have excess Water weight so it's hard to guage.) And even more scary, my surgeon has only done 70 lap bands. I have a lot of problems including kidney failure so I need to have the surgery done closer to home and that is the only place I could afford to self-pay. Should I be extremely scared? Thanks, Tina
  5. Had my sleeve done Monday. Feeling good and going back to work on Monday.

    Self-pay in Maryland?

I’m going to be self pay in FL. I found 3 surgeons in FL that were more “affordable”. Dr Radecke, Dr Shillingford and Dr Wizman. These are all around 10-11,000 for sleeves. 2 of those Dr do you surgery at bariatric centers of excellence. Other Florida Drs quoted me around 15,000-17,000 for sleeve. I will be cash pay up front. I am very concerned about self-pay complications though. I have United Health for insurance but Dr office told me my plan doesn’t cover bariatric AND I’m low BMI. I also have disc degeneration issues and following weight loss I also want to get a breast reduction. I have numerous herniated disc’s and a broken vertebrae. I think you are just going to have to google and call around like I did to find surgeons in your area. It was time-consuming but I wanted to make sure I knew all of my options.

    Newbie here

Thank you Monie, I am hear alot of people being on the prep diet for 10-14 days should I be concerned my Dr said one week for me? I am sure he knows what he is doing but I wonder why it varies so much between doctors.Thank you for the advice Sent from my Z812 using the BariatricPal App My surgeon doesn't require a pre-op diet unless you are over a certain weight. The purpose is to shrink the liver for surgery. I was surprised but thankful not to have to do one. Good luck! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

    Belly sleeping?

I was banded 7/16/10 and have no problems sleeping on my belly or left side but it is very uncomfortable still to sleep on my right side, which is the side my port is on. I used my daughters pillow pet to prop my right side for several weeks after surgery to help me feel as though I was on my belly completely. It worked great!
  12. I'm pre surgery, have been for near 10 years as NHS Scotland don't make it easy but I decided to watch the above show and I'm boiling mad. He gets surgery, and totally ignores the rules and guidance given by his team - his mum has had same surgery and is letting him eat pizza, sweets and coke less than 3 months out of surgery!! I'm no saint and will make mistakes as probably everyone has done no matter how well you follow the rules but for the love of all things holy why!!!!! If I was his insurance company I would be billing him for not following insurance rules. Beiling mad!!! Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????
  13. If you struggle with reflux or GERD, I would highly suggest the bypass. 9 times out of 10 it gets worse after the sleeve. That is the one and only reason I ever regretted having the sleeve as opposed to the bypass. But it's controlled with meds, so no biggie.

    Looking for support from strangers

Your not a failure. I’m learning this is really hard! Everyone says you just have to find your own way which isn’t how it seems pre op and can be discouraging. Sleep is HUGE. It can lead to a sense of hunger or thirst. And when your body isn’t functioning optimally it is difficult to lose weight. Right now post op I need 10-12 hours and when I don’t get it I am not ok. Talk to you doctor about natural sleep supports and google sleep hygiene-there are a ton of resources. Best of luck
  15. At my last surgeon's appointment two months out from surgery, I asked how much weight they might expect me to lose when I return for my six month post-op appointment at the end of November. The nurse practitioner said she thought I could lose 60 more pounds (over the next four months). At the time that seemed like a lot, and now that I'm well into the timeline and losing an average of 10 pounds/month, it definitely seems unrealistic. I am pretty happy with my weight loss so far; I was 250 the day of surgery, and 4.5 months out, I'm at 185. Realizing that everyone is different, I am curious if 10 pounds/month seems like a reasonable amount to be losing at this point? Thanks so much for your input.

    Introductions

Hi there, I'm going to add on here too, even though it's been a bit since this thread has been active. I just discovered there was an LDS thread! I'm 29 (but will turn the dreaded 30 in less than a month!). I've been a member for about 10 years, converted while in college. I've been married almost 9 years. And I've been fat as soon as I left high school. My surgery is tomorrow. I have a good friend in my ward who went through this about 18 months ago, but otherwise am not telling others in my ward family. I have my MSW and am a clinical social worker, but am between jobs at the moment. My calling is activities chairman, and everybody tells me that my activities have been the best they've gone to!

    Hi Ya'll!

Hi Kaiser So Cal Sleevers:) I'm from so cal, as so cal as you can get;) Just starting this process. Found out Options class for KP members in San Diego County is 24 weeks. Also, I was told I need to show proof that I've attempted at least/min of a 3 month supervised diet in the past 10 years. Any other KP sleevers had to do this? I did weightwatchers back in 2004 online for way over 3 months with the point system thing, but I don't know how to get proof I did it, it was all online. I also did a supervised phentermine prescription/diet with a weight loss "clinic" but they're not sure they can give me any documentation because the girl at the front deskntol me they probably sent my file to storage:/ Sheesh!
  18. DO YOU THINK IT'S REALLY BAD TO TRY SOUPS 10 DAYS OUT POST OP???
  19. My surgeon is extremely strict, yet conservative. He firmly believes that you need to walk 60 minutes per day, starting the day after surgery. He is fine if you walk really slow and he's also fine breaking it up into 6 10 minute walks. The day after surgery I walked 20 minutes 3 times...after 3 days, I was walking 30 minutes, twice...I get bored walking so every day I break it up into 2 30 minute walking sessions. I have had quite a bit of success since April 3rd (down 40 lbs). Walking will not hurt your band, it will only help you get that gas out of your system and jump start your success...

    Exercise or not?

Well, that depends on your goal... If you aspire to weigh less yet be flabby and out of shape, then please don't exercise. Lol, sorry, I thought this was a funny question. We all know muscles weighs more than fat, but I'd rather have 10 more lbs of muscle than 5 of fat. For me the answer is easy, I want to be healthy. This includes cardiovascular and muscle strength training. Congrats on your soon- to- be sleeve!! Good luck!

    June 10th

Hi - Had my surgery June 10, 2014. Admitted at 7:30am and was home at 2:00pm the next day. ONLY pain was pulling the tube out. Pain lasted 2 seconds. Out shopping three days later. The 10th day after surgery BAD stomach pain where stitches were. Lasted five days. Back to treadmill tomorrow hopefully. What are you eating now? Are you "cheating" on what you are suppose to have? Questions, questions, questions.
  22. Title says it all.... I knew this wasn't going to be easy but its only 9:15 and I'm starving. Thinking I'll have to eat a jello at 10 or I won't make it till lunch!
  23. Hi Where do you want to be in 1 year from now? When I had weight loss surgery, I had no idea how long it was going to take me to lose weight; I was older than most of you and everyone l drops their weight at different speeds. Most all of us ladies know that men lose much faster than we do. For me it took me about 14 months to lose 105 pounds. I was thrilled it only took me that long. I know when I started this journey like the rest of you I wanted it to just melt off of me. As first it felt like it was, but I knew that would slow down and it did. What I want you to do it take it in small steps. Set you goals by weeks or by a month, and DO NOT put yourself down if you don’t reach that goal. Remember we are all individuals. I had a walking buddy and she was good to keep me motivated and when she was down I did the same for her. She had sleeve surgery with Dr. Aceves about 6 months after I had mine. I was honored when she asked me to go with her for her surgery. Mix things up, become creative with your food ideas. I actually have become a much better cook now that I am healthy and at my goal weight, but that didn’t happen overnight. I started searching out recipes that I could incorporate in my lifestyle and something that taste great and that my husband and I both would eat. Find the Protein that you like and find 50 different ways to cook with it and watch your carbs. chicken happens to be a protein that I use the most. Those sneaky carbs have a way of messing up your weight loss. If you are eating carbs make them WHOLE GRAIN carbs, not whole wheat—the key word is Whole Grain. Summer is coming along find some great salads and put your protein in along with a little fresh fruit—like strawberries and then make the salad your entire meal. Watch the dressing that you are using. I learned to NOT put the dressing on my salad, but dip my forks into the dressing and with every bite I always get dressing. So look at the calendar and put a goal in your mind where you would like to be one year from today. Some will be there and some will not. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too big of a goal. I also used to like to look at catalog or magazines that had beautiful clothes that I wanted to be able to buy when I reached my goal. Looking at these beautiful clothes kept me from eating too. Do what works best for you. I will admit I have bought a lot of new clothes once I reached my goal. If you haven’t picked your doctor yet I would like to tell you the Dr. Aceves is the very best that you can have for your surgery. If you have any questions about him, I am more than happy to answer anything you would like to know. I wanted the best I could have and after a lot of research and talking to people on these boards, I knew he was the one.:attention: I wish you great success, remember do this one day at a time. If you had a bad day the good news is that day ends and you can start all over the next day. Hugs,:cheer2: Suzanne Sleeved 10/210/2008

    Down 31 lbs.

First Congrats! 31pounds is awesome. Then Second, I lost 10 pounds on the pre op diet and then another 10 pounds the week after surgery and it never came back. So most likely you will keep it off! Good Luck with everything!
  25. Just curious, how are you moms and dads are making out with young kids post op. I have a soon to be 10 month old and i will be banded the day after she turns 10 months. She loves for me to pick her up, hold her, and its mostly dad taking care of her in the day. My job is after work and into the night. Any thoughts?? Mes
