  1. Update! I didn't expect this bs. My families pestering me about this surgery. It's 2.5 days away and they just won't let up. I told my mother...reaction wasn't good. I fought with telling my sisters but eventually told 1 of them. Her reaction wasn't/isn't good either...this is the nutritionist one. Now they are sending me info on some extreme weightloss diet program. They look at this as if it's cosmetic surgery....despite the fact that my surgery was approved as medically necessary. They are stating that the only reason the surgery exist is for Dr.s to make MORE $$$ and that the whole thing is a healthcare scam. wth..... I know that its ultimately my choice but I feel like I am punching a brick wall or simply just banging my head on it.
  2. I was sleeved 8/1, which also coincided with the onset of my period (yuck, haven't had one in a while but had to stop BC prior to surgery). I had terrible cramps and gas pain in the hospital, slept 80% of the time, but reasoned it was what my body needed. Going to the bathroom (after catheter -another yuck- was removed) took all my energy. First day home was super uncomfortable and even with walking still hurt. Today I woke up and am able to finally drink a bit more normally (up to 32 oz already) and am actually a bit hungry since I haven't really eaten since Sunday night. The one thing that would make my life supreme right now is being able to go to the bathroom, but hopefully the miralax and the fact I'm finally actually ingesting something with nutritional content will move things along. It dies get better!
  3. Hi everyone. I’m now 3 days post-op and on full liquid. Been doing ok with trying to drink water but it seems that the popsicles are the only thing that doesn’t hurt me or I get the gas pain when I eat them. Have already had 3 today and it’s only 4pm. Freaking out a little bc I’m sure it’s not healthy to just have water and popsicles and also slightly scare that I’ve had so many. Anyone else have this issue?? They are yummy [emoji39]
  4. Bygone have any idea about how much you should be able to eat at a meal and feel comfortable with 5.5cc in a 10cc band? I was in bandster hell the week leading up to my fill and somewhat frustrated with myself bc I knew I was eating more than I should have been able to.....and my obsession over food came back so I was grateful for the liquid/mushy stage (felt like I lost a bit of control).....I have continued to lose weight and I am down 26 lbs since my surgery 6/6/12 I guess I just want to do this right

    Does this exclusion include WLS?

I have bc/bs mi ppo, our policy states that it does not cover weight loss or treatment of obesity, ya da ya da yada... but when i called them and gave them the procedure code they said that it is covered as long as it is medically necessary and you follow all of their requirements, ie.. 6 month diet, psyche eval, and such. They said that you had to have a BMI of 35 with 2 co morbids, or 40 BMI with none. Also they said that if you had a BMI of 50 you didn't have to do the diet thing. Anyhow, don't give up hope. Get the Lap Band code and give them that when you call your insurance. That way you will know for sure. Good Luck.
  6. So I am 10 days out (which I know isn't far out) and I am in more pain now, then when I was in the hospital. I saw my Dr today and he said it's normal. I can only walk a little at a time and standing after a min or 2 it feels like someone is stabbing with a sharp heated knife. I have to find my breathe and I get lightheaded. I have a very high pain tolerance so to me maybe something is wrong. I think the fact he acted like I was seeking pain meds pissed me off the most. I told him I am almost out of pain meds he gave me, just to show that I have had to take them due to the pain. I didn't want more even told him so. My dad was with me and he was very upset with the way I was being treated. He even stood up and told him the amount of pain I was in bc he clearly wasn't listening to me. My dad asked what else I could take bc I don't want the pain killers. Then the Dr said that he isn't going to write me a new script and just take Tylenol. He must have said I am not writing you a new script 3 times. I was in tears when I got out to the car. All I wanted was to make sure everything is ok. I was fine with Tylenol. He was just so rude and didn't want to listen to what I was saying. All he did was push on 2 spots on my stomach. I am worried about it and have the right to ask about it and tell him what I have or haven't been able to do. I hope things go better at my next 1 month follow up. Has anyone else been in a lot of pain (not due to gas pain) but actual muscle pain? If so what did you do to help with the pain? I am willing to try anything. I am not regretting it yet but if this pain keeps up I don't know what my thoughts would be.
  7. I have tried to get the sleeve approved. Went all the way to the "top" so to speak, but after the 5th denial letter we put in for the RNY. TWO DAYS later it was approved. Then, I found about this new AP band. Called the Insurance company and it will be approved. "Device failure" does fall under my coverage. As for the sleeve, I have checked into self pay and the MX doctor that my friends have used now does a two step procedure. He will take out the band $5000.00, four months later, he will do the sleeve $11,000.00... plus travel for both procedures. Self pay in TX is around the same... Even if BC/BS will pay for the lapband removal part of it... they want the other in cash up front. So my choices are RNY, Band Removal Only, or convert to new AP band. The doctors office says that many people that were having problems with the old band are doing better with this new one. But I would like confirmation from someone that has had this done. **Good grief** I just wish this thing would have worked.

    lipo lift

I already needed much lipo in all my body bc I am in my mid 40s, but now after surgery I think I might have to really do some sort of lipo to tighten the skin. although I have not been exercising and that I know will help with skin sagging so i am going to try to do light lifting for arms. and maybe more weight resistance. I have been cleaning my house organizing and keeping active in other ways but I have to be more like dedicated to keep up with the weekly weight loss.
  9. Thank you! I think I'm just nervous bc it will totally change my life but I'm ready for a change. ???Š
  10. Hi, I’ve been denied the surgery from a local doctors bc they only do laparoscopic surgery. I’ve had 4 previous abdominal surgeries ( ovarian cancer twice, vertical c section and total hysterectomy), and one laparoscopic gall bladder removal that took 5 hours. Has anyone had luck with old fashion cut open surgery? Or adhesion removal before laparoscopic? I’m 43, 5 ft 8 and 260 lbs! I’ve already had thyroid cancer and it’s removal. I’m kind of desperate here. I decided to order the meals and shakes here hoping it would help me out some. I want to lose weight I NEED to lose weight I just keep hitting a wall

    Post op depression

It has been a month since my surgery and I feel the same. It's hard bc I live with my parents and they are always eating out or making unhealthy food that I can't even touch not only that, my bf always tells me I'm taking the easy way out and puts me down for ever getting the surgery. I feel so alone and when I get compliments my bf will not even let me except them he then takes it as an insult. What I find that helps me sometimes is writing in my journal and taking a walk and actually looking and taking time to enjoy the beauty Sent from my SM-G900T using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. I have been thinking about this a lot! I have crazy, sporadic deadlines for work and my sleep really suffers. Sometimes I only sleep 2-3 hrs at a time, get up and work 4-5 hrs, sleep 45 minutes bc I am so miserable--etc. I don't necessarily have more food cravings, but I SWEAR I do not lose weight no matter what when I am not sleeping enough. I think sleep is when our bodies repair themselves and that restoration supports weight loss. sometimes I also retain some Fluid in my ankles when I am at my desk too long working or don't walk enough during the day, which causes a temporary weight gain in fluid. I seriously have a resolution right now to get 8 hrs of sleep a night.

    Not Losing

I am in the same boat i lost 22 lbs before surgery and then i gained like 2lbs before i got my forst fill bc it took my dr 2 months to do it! But after my fill which i got july 2 i have only lost 2 lbs. I can eat most days alittle more then a cup but i dont eat a lot. Sometimea when i attempt to eat like just now (bc its morning) i took two bites and I'm too tight right now to even eat. So its not like I'm eating too much. I havent been able to really excersize since but i do try to get in some walking at work. I'm assuming thats why I'm not really going anywherw

  18. Hi all, I'm post op 11 days. Right now I'm still in my full liquids phase, and I made a bunch of Soup to help get past this phase. I added unflavored Protein and it has a gritty, chalky flavor which I can't stand. I love the soup, but without adding the unflavored protein I won't be meeting my protein goal. I want to give up on the 60-70 grams of protein I should be having, it sounds crazy to me.. besides the Greek yogurt and occasional Protein shake.. and then just really pick up on it when I start my puréed diet next week bc I will be able to have puréed chicken. Would this be really bad? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  19. I meant to add this to my post above: Like I said, I have been on this forum for 14 months. In that time I have found 3 posters who are wise and knowledgeable. They strip through the BS and hand out sound advice. When these people post, I READ. Elcee, B52 and Corrigan Elcee and B52 are at goal and Corrigan is close to goal.
  20. It's been over a year (5/2012) and I'm "only" 40lbs down... And still have a way to go! I would like to lose a minimum of 70lbs more however I'm not seeing that scale move! I get an adjustment like clockwork every 4wks and the scale will go down about 3-5lbs and either stay steady or regain about that much by the time the nxt adj comes around. I feel restricted and my diet primarily consists of salads, soups, yogurt, protein shakes, chili, fresh fish and veggies...every once in awhile I will have some wine or ice cream (again...periodically).. I exercise 3-4x a week for 30-45 min intense tabata, kickboxing, strength training type regimens buuuut collectively it's NOT WORKING.. I'm really scared and desperate bc I keep thinking I didn't go through this journey of Lapband to only succeed 1/4 of the way! My MD and staff just keep saying workout harder, eat differently and I don't know how to do anymore of both.. My body is clearly stubborn (always has been in weightless w PCOS) and it seems to have adjusted to the band and this is it!! Pleeeease if someone can share if they've had a similar issue and eventually had a breakthrough I would appreciate some ideas and stories of hope!!

    Update 7 weeks post op

Hi Alfie, I'm a retired Verizon employee in MD with Anthem BC/BS. I was banded 11/19/06 and a few weeks ago my band of 6 years has to be removed due to many problems, one being a dilated esphogas. Before my band I was on so many meds, now have kept off 62 lbs and BMI is 34.5. After speaking to my Anthem case worker Tuesday, I'm really afraid Anthem is going to deny my band to sleeve surgery due to my lower BMI and controlling my diabetes by diet and exercise. I am very concerned.....any thoughts or words of wisdom?

  24. Hi All, I am in the very beginnings of the process, I have not met with a surgeon yet. I have Anthem BC and still am unsure of what the insurance requires, I have an idea but want to make sure before getting my hopes up. My BMI is 55 and I am 56 years old. I have many health issues going on which losing weight I am sure will make better or end them completely. I just want to be able to enjoy my family and activities like before I gained this weight. Looking forward to a new life

    2 insurances

Hi all, I have two insurances, both will cover the surgery but I'm not sure at what percentage. My question is, can approval be submitted to both insurances? One is a little more strict than the other and I think i may be denied through one but approved through the other. Has anyone went through a similar experience? The insurances are BC/BS of AL and BC/BS Anthem.
